A
My morning routine varies little from day to day. I walk the dog, eat breakfast at the kitchen counter with Katie and Matt, and then settle in for a day at the computer. And because I work mostly from home, I have learned that little walks into the outside world are important for psychological well-being. So before I begin attempting to put sentences together, I walk over to a little coffee shop in my neighborhood, and chat with the folks behind the counter.
The coffee shop is on the other side of the historic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal from my house. Whenever in season, tourists line up to take a slow boat, if not to India, at least into the 19th century.
One warm day last fall, I turned the corner to see one of the boatmen sitting alone on the boat, bathed in early-morning light. He was playing the violin. The scene stopped me in my tracks. What I witnessed could only be described as a perfect moment. Ten seconds at most. But months later I still remember just standing there, watching, listening, and taking it all in.
We all have such moments put before us. Little surprises. Whether we're wise enough to see them is another thing.
I thought of the violin man one Sunday afternoon while reading the biographies of those killed in the Columbia incident. The specialist Laurel Clark, talking from the shuttle a few days before it was to land, said it was blissful to see the simple unexpected wonders of space like a sunset. "There's a flash; the whole payload bay turns this rosy pink," she said. "It only lasts about 15 seconds, and then it's gone."
I once had a friend who had a strange habit that never stopped amusing me, maybe because I never quite knew when she was going to spring it on me. It could come in the middle of a particularly lively dinner with old friends. Out of the blue, she'd say, "Stop! I want to remember this moment." I realize now, after her death, what wise advice that is.
21.The author goes out for a walk every day in the morning mainly because ____.
A.she needs to walk the dog and enjoy the fresh air
B.she considers that it is good for her physical health
C.she hates to be left alone at home when others are out
D.she benefits psychologically from contacting the outside world
22.What does the underlined word "blissful" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Enjoyable. B.Valuable. C.Sensible. D.Reasonable.
23.The main purpose of the passage is to tell people to ____.
A.develop a good habit B.enjoy life to the fullest
C.catch the valuable moments in life D.be willing to follow friends' advice

I'm Savannah and I remember beginning to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt's house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio programme for school children to which I listened every morning.
In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving, I thought about all the places I was going to see — the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving and never to come back to was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of being positive but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost — having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to "the hard times".
My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with immigration officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences, I have learned one important rule: Almost all common troubles go away at last! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.
24.What did Savannah miss most about home when leaving for America?
A.Her dear friends and relatives. B.The radio programme for pupils.
C.The country she was leaving. D.The places she was familiar with.
25.What was Savannah's attitude to her life changes in New York?
A.Optimistic. B.Indifferent. C.Pessimistic. D.Desperate.
26.Why was Savannah increasingly responsible in her family?
A.For her family moved more frequently. B.For her mother ended up in divorce.
C.For her English was better than others. D.For she disagreed with her stepfather.
27.What does Savannah think about her future life?
A.Her future will be loaded with more troubles.
B.It will be difficult to learn to become mature.
C.There will be more good days than expected.
D.Good things will happen if she keeps trying.

As a child, Liu Wenwen didn't like the suona, a "loud" traditional Chinese musical instrument, also an ancestral treasure of her family that was to become her career.
Liu says she felt ashamed. In the 1990s, people admired things that were modern and international. The suona was considered out of date. Her father's family has performed with the suona for seven generations, while the tradition on her mother's side of the family can be traced back to the early Qing Dynasty. Despite her unwillingness, she followed her parents to play the suona as early as 3 years old. Besides it, Liu has also learned traditional Chinese vocal music and dancing — skills that have improved her oral muscles and sense of rhyme, helping equip her to be a professional musician.
It wasn't until 2008 that she first found suona music beautiful. That was when she entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to learn the instrument more systematically from Liu Ying, a professor and top player. "The music played by the professor is just amazing, and different from what I had heard before," she says.
She loves exchanging ideas about suona playing techniques with her students. "It's wonderful to see the younger generation carrying on this cultural tradition." Liu Wenwen said she is pleased to see the suona regain popularity among young people, sometimes combined with jazz, opera and other art forms. This has stopped its decline in the 1990s. Her name, when mentioned on China's social media platforms, often is followed by a video of her live performance at a concert in Sydney, Australia. Westerners were amazed by the loud, unfamiliar instrument and its colorful music. "I felt my hard work had paid off. I trained for over 20 years, probably just to win cheers and applause for traditional Chinese music on the international stage."
28.What urged Liu Wenwen to learn to play the suona?
A.Family tradition. B.Personal interest. C.Her professor. D.Her ambition.
29.Apart from daily training, what did Liu do to be a professional musician?
A.Follow her parents to play the suona.
B.Learn music history at an early age.
C.Play the suona with her parents on the stage.
D.Better her oral muscles and sense of rhyme.
30.How did Liu first find suona music beautiful?
A.By learning from the famous professor Liu.
B.By visiting Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
C.By performing the suona music in Sydney.
D.By hearing her family playing the suona.
31.What can we learn from Liu's last words in the last paragraph?
A.She learned the value of her performance.
B.She earned a fortune after 20 years' training.
C.She worked hard and became an international professor.
D.She surprised many westerners with a video of her performance.

The first time I heard about my classmates engaging with social media was in the fourth grade. A lot of my friends and classmates had excitedly jumped onto platforms like Instagram at such a young age. On the other hand, I hesitated. I only knew the basics, but was foreign to some words on social media.
All throughout middle school, I stuck with the same thinking. And now, as a freshman in college, I am looking back and wondering why I, unlike my classmates, have never been naturally interested in social media.
Scanning Instagram, you ought to find dozens of pictures of people in beautiful countries, taking part in exciting activities, and spending time with friends and family, among many other things. The thought of doing this has never related to me. I respect and understand those who do believe using social media allows them to express themselves and share aspects of their lives with others. However, I have never had any interest in doing the same. In my eyes, when not shared with others, family gatherings and friend get-togethers are just as meaningful, if not more so.
Most people have experienced feeling insecure and unconfident on social media. Images that are changed represent unrealistic beauty standards that can only be obtained through dangerous ways. Even without using social media, I knew that using apps like Instagram and Facebook would make me embarrassed about all the aspects that make me a unique individual. I've never wanted to look at a post on social media and immediately compare myself and my life.
I constantly observe my classmates getting easily distracted by social media. While trying to complete their homework, they have a powerful urge to open up Instagram or Facebook to see if there are any new messages. With homework and after-class activities consuming the majority of my day, I cannot wait to finish every task on my to-do list, so I can finally spend time with my family or have some time for myself to relax from my busy day.
32.What can we know from the first two paragraphs?
A.Social media are popular in schools. B.Young pupils suffer from social media.
C.The author has no access to social media. D.Social media contribute to students' study.
33.From paragraph 3, we can know that ____.
A.students get easily distracted by social media
B.pictures of people taking part in exciting activities are not real
C.family gatherings are not meaningful if not shared with others
D.the author never shares aspects of his life with others on social media
34.Why might people using social media feel insecure?
A.They post their images on social media.
B.They follow other people's beauty standards totally.
C.Social media change the way they look at themselves.
D.Social media encourage them to be a unique individual.
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.A to-do list can stop people using social media.
B.Social media can waste people's valuable time.
C.Spending time with family always enjoys first priority.
D.Students pay more attention to social media than to study.

A
My morning routine varies little from day to day.
C.she hates to be left alone at home when others are out
D.she benefits psychologically from contacting the outside world
由第一段“little walks into the outside world are important for psychological well-being”可知,作者早晨外出散步主要是因为这对心理健康有益。
22.What does the underlined word "blissful" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Enjoyable. B.Valuable. C.Sensible. D.Reasonable.
【答案】A
画线词 blissful 出现在第五段,描写宇航员 Laurel Clark 从航天飞机上俯瞰“太空中简单而出人意料的奇景”时的感受,语境为 the simple unexpected wonders of space like a sunset,属于令人愉悦的美好体验。 故选A。
23.The main purpose of the passage is to tell people to ____.
A.develop a good habit B.enjoy life to the fullest
C.catch the valuable moments in life D.be willing to follow friends' advice
B
【答案】B

26.Why was Savannah increasingly responsible in her family?

27.What does Savannah think about her future life?

【答案】A
由第一段“Her father's family has performed with the suona for seven generations... Despite her unwillingness, she followed her parents to play the suona as early as 3 years old”可知,是家庭传统促使她学习唢呐。 故选A。
29.Apart from daily training, what did Liu do to be a professional musician?
A.Follow her parents to play the suona.
B.Learn music history at an early age.
C.Play the suona with her parents on the stage.
D.Better her oral muscles and sense of rhyme.
由第二段“Besides it, Liu has also learned traditional Chinese vocal music and dancing — skills that have improved her oral muscles and sense of rhyme, helping equip her to be a professional musician”可知,除日常训练外,她还学习传统声乐与舞蹈,改善了口腔肌肉与韵律感。
30.How did Liu first find suona music beautiful?
A.By learning from the famous professor Liu.
B.By visiting Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
C.By performing the suona music in Sydney.
D.By hearing her family playing the suona.
【答案】A
由第三段“It wasn't until 2008 that she first found suona music beautiful. That was when she entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to learn the instrument more systematically from Liu Ying... ‘The music played by the professor is just amazing’”可知,她是在跟随刘英教授系统学习后,才第一次觉得唢呐音乐动听。 故选A。
31.What can we learn from Liu's last words in the last paragraph?
A.She learned the value of her performance.
B.She earned a fortune after 20 years' training.
C.She worked hard and became an international professor.
D.She surprised many westerners with a video of her performance.
【答案】A
末段她感叹“I felt my hard work had paid off. I trained for over 20 years, probably just to win cheers and applause for traditional Chinese music on the international stage”,可知她认识到自己多年坚持的价值——让中国传统音乐在国际舞台赢得掌声。 故选A。
D

34.Why might people using social media feel insecure?
A.They post their images on social media.
B.They follow other people's beauty standards totally.
C.Social media change the way they look at themselves.
D.Social media encourage them to be a unique individual.
第四段说“Images that are changed represent unrealistic beauty standards... using apps like Instagram and Facebook would make me embarrassed about all the aspects that make me a unique individual”,可见社交媒体上经过修饰的形象会改变人们看待自己的方式,从而使人不自信。
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.A to-do list can stop people using social media.
B.Social media can waste people's valuable time.
C.Spending time with family always enjoys first priority.
D.Students pay more attention to social media than to study.

Dear Peter,
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yours,
Li Hua
(I'm sorry to hear that...),随即用 but 亮明立场 skipping meals is not a good idea;②主体先写“危害细节链”——先承认节食的短期假象 It may take off a few kilos for a short time,再用 because it robs you of the energy you need 点出代价,并把危害落成课堂上的画面 too weak and sleepy to concentrate in class(化用本单元 energy);建议部分用 First/Second/Finally 三条并列铺开:规律有氧锻炼(make regular aerobic exercise part of your routine,回扣 routine)、健康饮食(three proper meals with more vegetables and fruit but less junk food)、充足睡眠(get enough sleep, which helps reduce stress and burn fat,回扣 reduce),并以 Small steps, kept up over the long term, will work wonders 收束(化用 over the long term 与 work wonders 两个单元短语);③结尾鼓励与祝愿。 分层建议:基础薄弱的学生按①②③各写一句(约 80 词)即可保底;学有余力者可在建议部分补一句 you may keep a diary to record your daily meals and exercise(把建议落成可操作的画面),冲高分段。
Dear Peter,
I'm sorry to hear that you are worried about your weight, but skipping meals is not a good idea. It may take off a few kilos for a short time, but you will soon feel too weak and sleepy to concentrate in class, because it robs you of the energy you need.
Why not try a healthier way instead? First, make regular aerobic exercise part of your routine — jogging, swimming or cycling, half an hour three times a week. Second, eat three proper meals with more vegetables and fruit but less junk food. Finally, get enough sleep, which helps reduce stress and burn fat. Small steps, kept up over the long term, will work wonders.
Stay patient and believe in yourself. I'm sure you'll soon feel stronger and happier.
Yours,
Li Hua
· ① but skipping meals is not a good idea 先共情后亮立场,一句同时完成“理解”与“劝阻”两个交际任务;② It may take off a few kilos for a short time 先承认节食的短期效果再转折,比一味否定更有说服力;③ too weak and sleepy to concentrate in class 把危害落成课堂上的具体画面,避免 it is bad for your health 式空话;④ First/Second/Finally 三条建议并列铺开,每条都带可操作细节(half an hour three times a week / more vegetables and fruit / get enough sleep),条理清晰、内容充实;⑤ make regular aerobic exercise part of your routine、reduce stress、over the long term、work wonders 均化用本单元词汇短语,学以致用;⑥ Small steps, kept up over the long term, will work wonders 用过去分词短语作插入语,句式有亮点,且自然收束全段。
