When my GCSEs came around, I revised for hours without pause (停顿). But in recent years, I’ve found that I prefer scrolling (滑动) on my phone to reading for pleasure. So, about a year ago, I made a promise: every time I came across a word I didn’t know — in a novel, an article or a conversation — I would look it up and write it down. I wouldn’t use any pen or notebook, just to keep a running list on my phone. Each week, I’d spend a few minutes reading the list back to try to keep the words in mind. The list now expands almost 20 pages. Each time I look up and record a word, I feel a slight change, as though some neglected (忽视的) part of my brain is working again. There is also an important element to it — it functions as something of a diary, a record of what I’ve been reading and thinking about, and who I’ve been listening to. It’s not an easy habit to keep up. If I’m reading on the underground, I have to stop mid-paragraph, pull out my phone and type (打字) the new word I come across into my digital doc. And then there’s the revising which I often forget to do, dutifully scrolling through my growing words list, as if I were preparing for a vocabulary test. Still, it’s made my mind much sharper. I find myself reaching less often for the same tiring handful of adjectives, and more often for something clear and exact. Few things are more satisfying than finding the exact word you were searching for. This small habit renewed my love of reading. In an era when our devices attract our attention, it is important to use my brain as a tool for slow thinking. And it has given me back something I feared I’d lost — the pleasure of exercising a mind that, after years of scrolling on my phone, is finally waking up again. 4. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1? A. She has a strong desire to read an e-book. B. She was into reading at a very young age. C. She argues against scrolling on her phone. D. She struggles to find the pleasure of reading. 5. Why did the author take new words down on her phone? A. To test her memory. B. To go on a research. C. To practise spelling. D. To learn new words. 6. What is the difficulty in keeping up the habit according to the author? A. The functions of the phone are unsafe. B. A vocabulary exam is difficult to pass. C. Working on the tube is not convenient. D. Going over the words is often forgotten. 7. Which of the following words can best describe the impact of this habit? A. Predictable. B. Unclear. C. Influential. D. Short-lived. C Many people in America believe that “more is better”. College students often share this idea when they use laptops in class. Laptops do allow students to do more, such as getting engaged in online activities, and accessing information from the Internet. In fact, students who use laptops often take many more notes than those who write by hand. Moreover, when students take notes using laptops, they tend to take notes verbatim, writing down every word the teacher says. Obviously, they believe that it is advantageous to take more complete notes that are useful for later review. However, research by Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer shows a surprising result. Across the experiments, Mueller and Oppenheimer had students take notes in a classroom setting and then tested students on their memory for factual detail, their conceptual (概念的) understanding of the material, and their ability to generalize the information. Half of the students were instructed to take notes with a laptop, and the other half were instructed to write the notes out by hand. In each study, however, those who wrote out their notes by hand had a stronger conceptual understanding and were more successful in applying the material than those who took notes with their laptops. What drives this unexpected finding? Writing by hand is slower and forces students to listen carefully. They must think about what is important and then summarize the information in their own words. This process makes the brain work harder and helps them understand and remember better. On the other hand, typing on a laptop is so fast that many students write everything down without thinking deeply about the lecture. This type of note-taking does not help them learn well. The research by Mueller and Oppenheimer serves as a reminder, however, that even when technology allows us to do more in less time, it does not always foster (促进) learning. Even though laptops let students record a lot of information quickly, deep learning happens when the brain must work to choose and summarize key ideas. 8. What does the underlined word “verbatim” in the first paragraph mean? A. Exactly as spoken. B. Perfectly as told. C. Creatively as expected. D. Regularly as they do. 9. What do Mueller and Oppenheimer find in their research? A. Students who take notes with a laptop learn more. B. More complete notes are very useful for later review. C. College teachers increasingly turn to technology in class. D. Students who write out their notes on paper outperform the rest. 10. What is the main purpose of the third paragraph? A. To provide a detailed explanation. B. To make a prediction. C. To challenge a common viewpoint. D. To summarize the main argument. 11. What should students do when it comes to learning according to the text? A. Use more brain power instead of technology. B. Have a memory test shortly after each lesson. C. Summarize key ideas after recording lectures. D. Focus on memorizing information thoroughly. D The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that most adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week, while you don’t need to exercise every day to be healthy. Exercising at least 150 minutes of moderate to intense activity at the weekend seems to have similar health benefits as spreading it out throughout the week. To investigate whether it makes a difference when people exercise, Zhi-Hao Li at Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, and his teammates analyzed data in the UK Biobank study on the physical activity of more than 93,000 people, aged between 37 and 73. This was recorded by wrist accelerometers (加速度计), worn between 2013 and 2015. Most previous studies have relied on surveys, which can be unreliable. Over eight years of follow-up, nearly 4,000 of the participants died. The researchers found that among people who did at least 150 minutes of weekly physical activity but packed it into one or two days, the risk of death from all causes was 32 percent lower than it was for people who didn’t manage this level of exercise. The risk of death from heart disease was 31 percent lower, and from cancer was 21 percent lower. This might make it seem that exercising at the weekend is better than spreading out your physical activity, but there was no statistically significant difference in the risk of death between the “weekend warriors”, who fit their weekly physical activity into just one or two days, and those who were active more regularly. “This study adds to what we know about the ‘right’ way to be active. That is, there is no single ‘right’ way,” says I-Min Lee at Harvard Medical School. “Whether one is regularly active, or whether one bunches activity over only one to two days a week, it is equally beneficial.” All the participants lived in the UK and about 97 percent were white, so the researchers write that additional studies that include a wider range of ethnicities are required to make them more applicable to general populations. 12. Why did the researchers analyze data from the UK Biobank? A. To acquire abundant samples. B. To make the result more convincing. C. To follow up participants easily. D. To compare it with previous surveys. 13. What did Zhi-Hao Li and his team find? A. Daily exercise is a must for good health. B. Weekend warriors face higher death risks. C. Spreading out exercise is better than weekend exercise. D. Weekend exercise and daily workouts are equally beneficial. 14. Which of the following may I-Min Lee agree with? A. Skip weekday exercise completely. B. Choose moderate activities as priority. C. Pick an exercise pattern that suits you. D. Get in a fixed amount of workout at weekends. 15. What does the last paragraph mainly focus on about the study? A. Its future direction for improvement. B. Its potential application fields. C. Its limitation on research methods. D. Its far-reaching significance. 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2.5分,共12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Good time management helps us balance study, hobbies and rest. As a teenager, rural life left me unsettled. Everyone knew everything about me, whereas I preferred the privacy that city life offered. The closeness I now value was then a source of deep annoyance. It was my mother’s sudden illness during my college years that shifted my opinion. Coming back, I found many neighbors had gathered around to help. Their quiet support awakened a sense of gratitude. Gradually, I thought that the familiarity I once found unbearable was an extension of belonging in fact. That realization led me to return to my hometown, a choice that has proved to be right. Urban doctors, limited to narrow fields, often refer many of their patients to those even more specialized, leaving few cases for themselves. Here, my single day as a rural doctor might involve delivering a baby (接生孩子) in the morning, treating a child’s broken arm in the afternoon, and responding to a farm accident in the evening. And there is the lifestyle. I live in a lovely spacious house with breathtaking views and I enjoy a fifteen-minute drive to work. Admittedly (诚然), there are splendid shops and restaurants in the city, but after three days, the excitement fades and a longing for home comes. Country life may not be for everyone, but it is worth considering. Wherever we live, we each have only one life, and we choose what works best. One cold winter afternoon, I received an urgent call. An elderly farmer had fallen from his ladder while repairing the roof. 注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 续写部分分为两段,每段开头语已为你写好。 Para1: I took my medical bag and hurried to the farmer’s house right away. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para2: Several days later, the old farmer came to my clinic (诊所) with a basket of fresh vegetables. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2026年秋期高一年级月考考试 英语学科 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段录音。每段录音后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段录音后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段录音播放两遍。 1. The winter wind cut through my coat, but I pressed on without a second thought. When I arrived, I found the old man lying on the frozen ground, groaning in pain beside the fallen ladder. Kneeling down, I quickly checked his injuries; his ankle was badly swollen and bleeding. Speaking in a calm, gentle voice, I stopped the bleeding and bandaged the wound. Then, with the help of his worried family, we carried him inside and made him comfortable. “You’ll be fine,” I reassured him. Only when I was sure he was out of danger did I finally relax. Several days later, the old farmer came to my clinic (诊所) with a basket of fresh vegetables. Smiling warmly, he handed me the basket full of leafy greens and ripe tomatoes from his garden. “Doctor, this is the least I can do,” he said, his eyes shining with gratitude. “You saved my life that day.” Holding the basket, I felt a wave of warmth wash over me. It was then that I knew, with absolute certainty, that returning to my hometown had been the right choice — not just for the meaningful work, but for the deep, lasting bonds I had found here. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
