I wanted to remove it and wash my hands clean. But it’s stuck. Stuck in my brain, stuck in my name, stuck on my skin. Being Pakistani (巴基斯坦人), I am lucky to have thick hair and sun-kissed skin. At school, I was made fun of for my skin color and different culture. Even my grandmother suggested: “bathe in milk to become fair.” I wanted to simply fit in with my friends. Growing up in America was hard as a person of color. It was easier to be accepted if my appearance matched “American” culture. At fifteen, everything changed at a family wedding. I was only a watcher before; this time I saw what happened behind the scenes (场面). I was unsure, but being around excited Pakistanis made me curious. After a week of wedding celebrations, I took time to understand our traditions. My grandparents taught me about many different events, and I tried biryani (手抓饭) for the first time. I began to love the beautiful, colorful dresses and the planned dances. By the end of the week, I learned culture goes deeper than looks. I began to look at myself with pride and love, accepting my identity as a Pakistani-American. Once I accepted the part of myself I always wished would disappear, I learned how to live with both American and Pakistani influences. College offered a new beginning. Wanting to find a group that celebrated being Pakistani led me to join the Pakistani Students Association. My favorite part of the club is the differences among the same group of people. I got to explore parts of Pakistani culture I didn’t know before. My way of thinking changed from erasing the culture I was born into to celebrating Pakistani culture filled with color and spice (香料), beauty and love. I have learned that we must celebrate our different cultures and identities. I am no longer a girl who refuses to accept, I am a girl who works hard to celebrate. 24. How did the author feel as a child? A. She enjoyed being different. B. She was proud of Pakistani customs. C. She was eager to have Pakistani friends. D. She wished to change her appearance. 25. Why did the grandmother suggest bathing in milk? A. To follow Pakistani traditions. B. To meet American beauty standards. C. To protect the author from bullying. D. To improve the author’s skin health. 26. What caused the author’s attitude change? A. Attending college. B. Joining a school club. C. Getting close to her culture. D. Moving away from her family. 27. What can we learn from the author’s story? A. Hard work will pay off one day. B. Fitting in matters more than heritage. C. Cultural traditions are always attractive. D. Identity acceptance brings personal growth. C A recent study from the University of Minnesota has discovered a simple and powerful way to improve students’ learning: more natural light. The research team found that students in classrooms with large windows and plenty of sunlight showed considerably better academic performance and focus levels, compared to those in classrooms with smaller windows or primarily artificial (人工的) lighting. Dr. Emily Carter, the lead researcher, explained the findings. “We’ve long believed that environment matters, but this study provides strong evidence (证据) specifically for natural light,” she said. “It’s not just about seeing better; it’s about the biological influence of sunlight on our focus and mood. This could be a game-changer for how we design schools.” She added that spending money on better window design and skylights could be a cost-effective way to improve students’ learning performance. The study involved 101 students from three local high schools. Each student took part in learning sessions held in two different classroom environments on separate days: one was a “bright” room with large windows allowing plenty of sunlight, and the other was a “standard” room with smaller windows and relying mostly on ceiling lights. The students completed reading tasks and memory tests during each session. To ensure fairness, the order in which students experienced the rooms was organized randomly, and the tasks were of similar difficulty. The results were clear. On average, students scored 10% higher on the memory tests and reported feeling more focused and less tired in the “bright” classroom. Dr. Carter and her team believe these findings offer practical guidance. They suggest that school planners should think about how to get more natural light when designing new school buildings. For existing buildings, simple changes, like moving desks closer to windows or using lighter curtains to allow more light in, can make a real difference. 28. What is the main finding of the study? A. Large windows make it hard for students to focus. B. Artificial lighting is harmful to students’ eyesight. C. Moat students prefer classrooms with more outdoor views. D. Classrooms with more natural light improve students’ learning. 29. What does the underlined word “game-changer” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Something that makes a big difference. B. A game that can be played indoors. C. A challenge difficult to overcome. D. A project expensive to complete. 30. What is the main purpose of paragraph 3? A. To introduce the researchers. B. To present the students’ opinions. C. To describe the research methods. D. To discuss the cost of the changes. 31. What do the researchers suggest based on their study? A. Students should spend more time outdoors. B. Schools should stop using all artificial lights. C. Classrooms should be painted in brighter colors. D. School design should make full use of natural light. D Last summer, two nineteenth-century cottages (小屋) were rescued from remote farm fields in Montana, to be moved to an Art Deco building in San Francisco. The houses were made of wood. These cottages once housed early settlers as they worked the dry Montana soil; now they hold Twitter engineers. The cottages could be an example of the industry’s special love affair with “low technology,” an idea linked with the natural world, and with old-school craftsmanship (工艺) that existed long before the Internet era. Low technology is being taken advantage of in many Internet companies. Amazon is building three glass houses filled with trees, so that employees can “work and socialize in a more natural, park-like setting.” At Google’s office, an entire wall is made of glass, through which people working there can see the trees and flowers outside. Facebook’s second Menlo Park campus will have a rooftop park with a walking trail. Olle Lundberg, the founder of Lundberg Design, has worked with many tech companies over the years. “We have lost the connection to old-school craftsmanship in our lives, and our tech engineers are the ones who feel impoverished (贫乏的), because they’re surrounded by the digital world,” he says. “They’re looking for a way to regain their individual identity, and we’ve found that introducing traditional craftsmanship is one way to do that.” This craft-based theory is rooted in history. William Morris, the English artist and writer, turned back to pre-industrial arts in the eighteen-sixties, just after the Industrial Revolution. The Arts and Crafts movement defined itself against machines. “Without creative human activities, people became disconnected from life,” Morris said. Research has shown that natural environments can make us feel more energetic. Rachel Kaplvin, a professor of environmental psychology, has spent years researching the positive effects of natural environments. Her research found that workers with access to nature at the office — even simple views of trees and flowers — felt their jobs were less stressful and more satisfying. If low-tech offices can potentially benefit the brains and improve the mental health of employees then, fine, bring on the cottages. 32. Why does the writer mention the two nineteenth-century cottages in Para 1? A. To compare two ideas. B. To draw a conclusion. C. To present more examples. D. To introduce the topic. 33. What does low technology in the article refer to? A. Something related to nature. B. Something out of date today C. Something consuming too much energy. D. Something only existing in villages. 34. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? A. Humans have destroyed many pre-industrial arts. B. Humans have a tradition of valuing arts and crafts. C. Humans can become intelligent by learning history. D. Humans can energize themselves by using machines. 35. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Past Glories, Future Dreams B. The Digital World, the Real Challenge C. The right approach can boost your understanding and memory of what you learn. 36 First, figure out what’s most important in a lecture or reading. Teachers often emphasize key points, and textbooks have headings or bold text for important information. 37 Instead of writing every word, use abbreviations (缩略词), symbols, or short phrases. For example, “govt” for “government” or “→” for “leads to”. This saves time and keeps your notes concise. Also, organize your notes with headings and subheadings. This structure makes it easier to review later. Another tip is to leave space in your notes. This way, you have room to expand on ideas later. 38 Some students find using different colors helpful — highlighting key terms or ideas makes them stand out. 39 Revision helps you identify gaps in your understanding. Just reading them once after class isn’t enough. Revise them a few days later, and then weekly. This repetition helps move information from short-term to long-term memory. Finally, adapt your note-taking to different subjects. 40 Math notes might focus on formulas and problem steps, while history notes emphasize dates and events. By tailoring your method, you’ll make the most of your note-taking. A. Keep your notes brief and to the point. D. Don’t forget to review your notes regularly. C. Here are some strategies to take better notes. D. Note-taking should match the subject’s needs. E. Good notes should be easy to read and follow. F. Writing down everything will make you miss important points. G. You can add extra details, questions, or examples when you review. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 读短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Summers in Arizona are extremely hot, with temperatures often over 115 degrees Fahrenheit. First, I find it hard to understand long and difficult sentences in reading passages. Besides, my writing lacks critical thinking, so my articles are not impressive. I would appreciate it if you could offer some practical suggestions. I’m looking forward to your reply. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 听力答案 1.【原文】W: Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to QuikBank? M: Yes, keep following the High Street until you reach the crossroads, and then go right onto Bridge Road. QuikBank is about halfway down, on the left side. W: Thanks 2.【原文】M: Lucy, you’re here l I thought you were on holiday. W: Surprise — I came back early. Well, I couldn’t miss your party. It’s not every day my best friend turns 18. Where should I put your gift? M: On the dining-room table. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re here! 3.【原文】M: Here, you look for a table while I get the drinks. What do you fancy? W: Something to cool me down. This weather is killing me! Can you ask if the “Rainforest Coolers” contain added sugar? If not, I’ll try one. Otherwise, I’ll just have an iced coffee. 4.【原文】M: Okay... where’s the ticket office? I’d think it would be close to Visitor Information, but I can’t see it anywhere. W: There isn’t one, David! The City Museum is free. M: Really? Wow, that’s great! Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go and find some dinosaurs! 5.【原文】M: Hey, this jacket is nice. And don’t you think the colour would be perfect with my new blue shirt? W: Definitely. Grey and blue always look great together. And I really like the dark-red lining — it stops the jacket being boring, you know? M: Yeah, you’re right. 6.【原文】M: Mom, I’m really struggling with this paper. W: Oh dear. Any idea why you’re in this situation? M: I think my head’s just so full of dates, battles and facts about all these different ancient dynasties. I don’t know how or where to start. W: Mind-mapping might help you organise your thoughts. M: Mind-mapping? W: It’s a great study aid. Put the main idea in the middle and then branch out with related details. M: Okay, and this helps? W: Well, many scientific studies suggest it does. M: Thanks, Mom. I’ll give it a try. But firs... I need snacks! 7.【原文】M: I don’t know how you can listen to this light music. W: Oh, I like it! I find it relaxing. M: “Relaxing” is one thing, but this would send me to sleep! There’s nothing even slightly interesting about it. W: Well, we all have different tastes, I guess. I can’t stand your horrible heavy-metal music — it just sounds like shouting to me. M: But I love it! It makes me feel so alive. W: That’s great. So long as you listen to it with your headphones on! M: Ha-ha! Okay. W: If you really hate this song, change the station to something we both like. M: What about Classic FM? W: Sounds good! 8.【原文】W: I visited Mom and Dad at the weekend. They said you’re starting a business. M: Yeah — I’m opening a repair shop with a couple of guys from college. W: Cool! Do I know them? M: You’ve met Katie. She started out on the same Fine Arts course as me before changing to Fashion Design. And Lee did Business and Computer Science, so he’ll deal with the money side of things. He’ll also repair electronics. W: And I guess Katie can fix anything made from fabric? M: Exactly. Meanwhile, I’m responsible for anything made from wood and metal. W: Very environmentally friendly! So what’s the business plan? Customers will pay you to fix their stuff? M: Yes, we will offer repair services, but probably the main aim will be teaching people to do their own repairs — mostly online, but we’ll also run some in-person classes. W: And when something is beyond repair, you could turn it into art! M: Great idea! 9.【原文】M: Is it true that everyone at your school has to do some sort of community service? W: Yes. We each have to complete 25 hours of voluntary work in order to graduate. Our new head-teacher introduced the programme last year. M: Wow, interesting! Has it been popular with the students? W: Some of us weren’t happy at first, but everyone is on board now. Personally, I was a big fan of the idea from the start. M: Really? W: Yeah. In fact, I’d thought about volunteering before, but it wasn’t easy to fit it in around school time and my weekend job. Now I get to leave school early every Thursday to go to the animal shelter. M: That’s so cool! Do your friends work there with you? W: No, we all do different things. Sarah volunteers at a retirement home, Dan works with disabled kids, and Mike works a shift at a food bank every Friday morning. M: Wow, that’s important work. Food banks feed some of the poorest in our community. W: True. The programme has really opened our eyes to the world’s problems, and I think we’re more caring as a result. 10.【原文】Is everybody on board? Great! Please take your seats and let’s get going. I won’t talk for long, as our destination is only a 20-minute bus ride from our hotel here in central Stockholm. Today we’re visiting Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum. As a “living museum,” Skansen provides us with a picture of ordinary Swedish life before the Industrial Age. The site features over 150 historical buildings brought to the museum from all over the country. Activities take place each day in both Swedish and English; they are given by actors in traditional costume, which really brings the history to life. Skansen is the world’s only open-air museum with wild animals, and the Nordic Zoo features many types of local wildlife such as deer and bears. There’s also a Children’s Zoo. The Skansen Aquarium also has fish, plus many other creatures such as snakes, insects and monkeys! Unfortunately, this isn’t included in our entry price, but adult tickets cost just 160 kronor — about 20 of your Canadian dollars. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
