第五部分 写作(满分15分)
One possible version:
Dear Jeremy,
How is everything going with you? I’m writing to share my thoughts on balancing schoolwork and club activities in high school.
For me, the key is to plan my time carefully. I make a weekly schedule and set clear priorities. For example, I keep evenings for study, and join club activities two or three times a week. This way, I can enjoy both without feeling too stressed. Also, I find it helpful to focus on one thing at a time — when studying, I give it all my attention; when in clubs, I fully engage. By doing so, I feel more productive and less worried.
What about you? How do you manage your schoolwork and after-class activities? Do you have any good tips for staying organized? I’d love to hear from you.

“Keep your words soft and gentle,” goes an old saying, “because tomorrow you may have to eat them.” I learned exactly what this meant in high school — the hard way.
One afternoon, my friend Megan and I were making preparations for our school musical. Out of nowhere, she asked about my date with Mike, a quiet boy from our grade. Without thinking, I said, “I only went because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. I’m not really interested in going out with him again.”
The moment the words left my mouth, I felt an ache in my hand — as if I’d hit something hard. I looked up and there stood Mike in the doorway, his face pale, eyes wide with shock. He turned and ran. I wanted to run after him, but my feet felt like lead.
All week I avoided Mike in our shared classes. I kept asking myself: Am I embarrassed (尴尬的) because I look bad, or because I hurt him? Until I could answer that honestly, I couldn’t apologize (道歉).
Then came speech class. Mr. Kincaid handed out topics for speeches. My paper read: “Tell about your most embarrassing moment.” My heart dropped, but I knew what I had to say. Standing before thirty classmates who thought I was “Miss Perfect”, I confessed (坦白) my careless words and wished I had never said those words — without naming Mike or adding more information that might embarrass him further.
When I finished, the silence was heavy. Then someone clapped. Then another. Soon the whole class were clapping their hands. I didn’t feel proud — I felt thankful.
Mike moved away that summer. We never spoke about it directly, but years later, through the Internet, we reconnected. He’d seen my apology for what it was: honest and sincere.
Mr. Kincaid gave me an A, but the real lesson cost more. Before speaking about anyone, I now run my words through four filters(过滤): Is it true? Helpful? Kind? Necessary? If it doesn’t pass all four, I keep it to myself.
Forty years later, I’m still glad we’re friends. And I’ve never forgotten: words can wound deeply — but they can also repair broken hearts.
24. Why did the author go out on a date with Mike?
A. She liked him a lot.
B. She was his only friend.
C. She didn’t want to hurt him.
D. She needed him for the musical.
25. Why did the author avoid Mike in shared classes?
A. She didn’t truly care about Mike’s feelings.
B. She was waiting for Mike to apologize first.
C. She wanted to apologize but didn’t know how.
D. She needed to understand her own feelings first.
26. What can be inferred about the author’s speech in the class?
A. It was made to protect her “Miss Perfect” name.
B. It was an easy and direct way to apologize to Mike.
C. It was meant to win a high grade from Mr. Kincaid.
D. It was designed to apologize without hurting Mike more.
27. What lesson did she learn from this experience?
A. Friendships don’t last. B. Public speaking is hard.
C. Think twice before speaking. D. True apologies need time.
C
Have you ever seen a dog kick up grass and dirt after pooping or peeing (大小便)? Some owners think it’s dirty or silly. But there’s actually a good reason behind this behavior.
Dr. Carlo Siracusa, an animal behaviorist, explains that the kick is a form of communication. The kick sends two messages for other dogs at once: a smell and a visual (视觉的) mark.
First, there’s the smell. Dogs have scent glands (气味腺) in their paws (爪). When they kick the ground, they spread their own scent around. This tells other dogs who was there. The scratching (挠) also spreads the smell over a wider area and pushes some of it into the air. That way, a dog passing by can catch the scent even from a distance.
Second, there’s the visual mark. The broken ground and kicked-up leaves are like a sign. If another dog sees the place, it knows, “A dog was here recently.” This tells other dogs about presence and timing. A mark from an hour ago gives different information than one from a few days ago does.
This behavior comes from wolves, dogs’ wild relatives. Wolves use scent marks to show where their territory (领地) is and warn others to stay away. Even though most pet dogs don’t need to protect territory, they’ve kept this instinct. Street dogs still use ground-scratching to set up territory lines and frighten away enemies.
Some dogs may also kick because of nerves. Dr. Siracusa says anxious dogs often mark more to say “I’m around.” This helps them avoid conflict (冲突) with other dogs. However, there’s no hard data proving anxious dogs kick more than calm ones — just a pattern he’s noticed in his clinic.
So next time your dogs kick up grass, don’t pull them away. They’re just leaving a message for their furry friends!
28. Why do dogs kick up grass after peeing or pooping according to Dr. Siracusa?
A. To clean their paws. B. To hide their smell.
C. To look for their own kind. D. To leave messages for other dogs.
29. What does the visual mark on the ground tell other dogs?
A. How big the dog is. B. What the dog has eaten.
C. Which way the dog went. D. How recently the dog was there.
30. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “instinct” in paragraph 5?
A. A bad habit. B. A learned skill. C. A natural behavior. D. A careful decision.
31. Which of the following is a best title for the text?
A. “Pee-mail”: The Real Reason Your Dog Kicks Up Dirt
B. “Dirt Dancer”: The Secret Dance Your Dog Does After Pooping
C. Hiding Waste: How Dogs Bury Their Poop to Stay Safe from Enemies
D. Wolf Instinct: Why Your Dog Marks Territory Like Their Wild Relatives
D
Crows (乌鸦) are very smart birds. They can count, tell human faces, and even use tools. Recently, a popular story said that a Swedish town was training crows to pick up cigarette butts (烟头). While this project isn’t actually happening now, the idea is based on real science.
In 2022, a researcher named Hans Christian Hanssen proposed “Corvid Cleaning”. The plan was to train wild crows to collect cigarette rubbish and drop it into special bins (垃圾箱). In return, the bins would give the birds food as a reward (回报). The idea drew international attention, and some experts even praised its possibilities to cut down litter in the city. However, the business behind the project failed in 2025. Despite this, false news about the program continues to spread online.
Why did the project fail? A 2024 study pointed out some serious worries. Researchers worried about the health risks to the crows and whether the public would accept animals cleaning up human waste. Besides this, the business itself was short of money. This wasn’t the first try either. A French theme park tried something similar in 2018 with mixed results. In the end, the question isn’t just whether we can train crows to clean, but should we?
But the story also draws attention to a huge environmental problem. Cigarette butts are the world’s most littered item. Humans throw away around 4.5 trillion filters every year, and that number could soon double. These filters take years to break down and give off harmful chemicals into soil and waterways, harming both wildlife and the environment.
While using clever crows as cleaners makes for an eye-catching headline, the real lesson is about human responsibility. Instead of depending on animals to fix our problems, we need to address cigarette pollution at its source (源头) through better waste management and a change of smoking rules. Crows are very smart, but at the end of the day, protecting the planet is our job, not theirs.
32. What was the main purpose of the “Corvid Cleaning” project?
A. To study crows’ cleverness.
B. To test special trash bins in Sweden.
C. To create a new bird shelter.
D. To train crows to clear cigarette waste.
33. What problem did researchers raise about the crow-cleaning project?
A. The crows were not smart enough.
B. The special bins cost too much to build.
C. It could harm the crows and upset the public.
D. The French project had already failed completely.
34. What does the text say about cigarette butts in the environment?
A. They are a problem only in European countries.
B. They are easy to collect and disappear in weeks.
C. They are the most littered item but are harmless to animals.
D. They give off harmful chemicals as they slowly break down.
35. What message does the author tell in the last paragraph?
A. Crows are too smart for cleaning tasks.
B. Theme parks should stop using wild animals.
C. Humans should take care of pollution themselves.
D. We should not believe false stories about animals.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Late at night, a lonely university student tells an AI chatbot (聊天机器人), “Nobody understands me.” Next door, a tired young worker asks her AI for advice. The AI replies instantly with kind, caring words. Both people feel truly heard. 36 It doesn’t experience loneliness, stress, or sympathy. It simply uses math and huge amounts of data to guess the best words to say.
Why do we easily believe AI is conscious (有知觉)? 37 When a machine talks smoothly and seems full of feelings, our brains trick us into believing it has a real mind. However, neuroscience (神经科学) shows us that smart behavior does not mean conscious experience. Think about how you automatically catch a falling glass before you even think about it. Your brain deals with complex (复杂的) information without conscious awareness. 38 It can produce smart, touching answers without actually “experiencing” anything behind the screen.
39 Today, people are increasingly treating AI like real friends. Depending on AI too much can actually make people feel more lonely in the real world. It might even stop them from seeking the real human help they truly need when they are helpless.
