The area of Saihanba, in northern Hebei Province, used to be a barren (贫瘠的) land. In the past, it was almost covered with sand and had very few trees. Strong winds blew sand into the air, and sandstorms often reached the area to the south of Beijing. Local people could hardly breathe clean air.
Over the past sixty years, Saihanba has made great progress in becoming green again. In 1962, 369 young people came to this lonely place and began to plant trees. Together with later workers, they turned the wasteland (荒地) into a huge forest. Today, trees cover about 1.12 million mu of land—over 70,000 hectares (公顷). This green wall now protects Beijing and Tianjin from sandstorms and keeps the air cleaner.
Three generations of workers have worked hard to build and keep the forest. They chose the right trees for the cold, dry weather, and used modern machines and scientific methods to make trees grow better and fight plant diseases.
Saihanba has also opened its forests to visitors. It is now a popular eco-tourism (生态旅游) park that brings steady (稳定的) income to local families and creates thousands of jobs. Its purpose is to let people enjoy nature while learning to protect it.
In 2017, the Saihanba afforestation (植树造林) community won the UN Champions of the Earth Award, the highest environmental honor of the UN. Saihanba promises to keep protecting the green land and encourages more places to follow its example.

Heroes are those people who influence us in a positive way. They can be famous people like scientists, firefighters or sports stars. They can also be ordinary people who choose to do great things in daily life. Why do we need heroes in our lives?
First, heroes inspire us to be better. We should read about someone who worked hard and never gave up, like Marie Curie and Zhong Yang. Their stories show us what is possible even when life is hard.
Second, heroes give us a sense of direction. During difficult times, we may feel lost or afraid. A hero’s example can act like a light in darkness. For example, a student who has trouble with maths might look up to a teacher who solves many difficult maths problems. Seeing someone succeed helps us believe that we can succeed too.
Third, heroes remind us of important values in life. Honesty, courage, kindness and fairness—heroes follow these values every day, not just in big moments but in their everyday choices. A firefighter running into a burning building shows care for others; a teacher choosing to stay after class to help students shows patience and kindness. These actions slowly shape our own sense of the right and wrong.
Of course, heroes are not perfect. They may make some small mistakes, just like others. It’s their imperfections that make their achievements real. When a hero makes a mistake, we shouldn’t see failure as the end but part of the life journey.
48. Who is mentioned as a hero in the text?
A. Tu Youyou. B. Marie Curie. C. Yang Liwei. D. Jane Austen.
49. How can a hero’s example help us during difficult times?
A. It offers us a clear direction. B. It makes us feel energetic.
C. It teaches us special learning methods. D. It helps us forget mistakes.
50. What do heroes remind us of according to the text?
A. Ways to win a competition. B. Important values in life.
C. Rules at school. D. The meaning of success.
51. What does the underlined word “imperfections” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A. Big dreams. B. Small faults. C. Special skills. D. Hidden talents.
52. What is the best title for the text?
A. Heroes Are Always Perfect People B. Famous Heroes In History
C. How To Become A Hero D. Why We Need Heroes In Our Lives

【答案】48. B 49. A 50. B 51. B 52. D
【解析】

The person that I admire the most is Yuan Longping, the “Father of Hybrid Rice”. He was a Chinese scientist who spent his whole life studying rice. In the 1970s, he developed hybrid rice, which greatly increased rice production. His work helped feed millions of people in China and other countries.
Yuan Longping changed the world with his hard work. He taught me that one person could make a big difference. We should love our country and never give up our dreams.
