Should Students Study in Groups When Preparing for Exams?
Nowadays, there is a heated discussion over whether students should study in groups when preparing for exams.
Opinions are divided on the question. Some students hold the view that group study is beneficial for exam preparation. To begin with, they can share learning resources and solve difficult problems together. Besides, group discussion helps them stay motivated. However, others prefer studying alone. They argue group study may get distracted and waste time. If they study alone, they can arrange their review plan freely and concentrate more without disturbance.
As far as I’m concerned, we can make good use of both methods. We can turn to group study to clear up confusing points, and spend private time going over knowledge to strengthen our memory before exams. Only in this way can we maximize our revision efficiency.

The next morning, we headed out to a remote school with supplies. As we approached, the girls fell silent. The school was nothing more than a row of mud-walled huts with rusty iron sheets for a roof. Children sat on the bare floor, sharing worn pencils and writing on small slates. Nina and Ruby stared, their eyes wide with disbelief. When we began handing out notebooks and pens, the local kids gathered around, smiling warmly despite their obvious hardship. One girl held Ruby’s hand and showed her how to write in the dust when paper ran out. Ruby looked at me, her lips trembling. For the first time, she seemed to understand what“enough”really meant.
Upon returning to the U.K., I noticed evident changes in Nina and Ruby. They no longer complained about dinner or compared our home to others’. One evening, Ruby carefully wrapped half of her sandwich and said, “I’ll save it for tomorrow.” Nina began turning off lights and collecting old clothes in a bag marked “For Uganda.” When a friend showed off a new phone, Nina just smiled and said,“We have more than we need.”At parents’ evening, their teacher told me they had started a small charity project at school. Watching them sleep that night, I realized they had finally learned what I had failed to teach with words: gratitude is not about having more, but about seeing what we already have.
(1)与所给短文及段落开头语的衔接程度;
(2)内容的合理性;
(3)应用语法结构和词汇的丰富性和准确性;
The next morning, we headed out to a remote school with supplies.
Upon returning to the U.K., I noticed evident changes in Nina and Ruby.

1.B
M: Excuse me, could you tell me where the bank is, please?
W: Just past the square down there. It’s beside a post office, and on the other side, there’s a school. No, no, it’s actually a supermarket.
M: Thank you.
2.C
W: I need to go back. I’ve forgotten something.
M: If it’s money, I can lend you some.
W: Thanks. I have my credit card. But I can’t find my shopping list anywhere in my bag.
3.A
W: How long will it take to fix the car?
M: About one hour. You can sit over there and have a cup of coffee.
W: No, thanks. I need to go find my father. I’ll be back later.
4.C
W: You must’ve gotten wet waiting for the bus.
M: No, I brought an umbrella but didn’t use it because I went to the bus stop with a shelter before the rain arrived.
5.C
W: How should I wear my hair to the dance?
M: How about wearing it straight? That looks nice and simple.
W: Or maybe I should do it in big waves? No, I think you’re right. I’ll have it done super straight. Simple is always better.
6.B 7.A
M: Stella, I didn’t get on the basketball team. I’m very disappointed with myself.
W: No need, Chris. It was the first time you’d ever tried out, and you were probably nervous.
M: That wasn’t the problem. I had never practiced shooting with my left hand, so you can guess how bad I was at it.
W: Well, now that you know what your weakness is, you can work on it, and I’m sure you’ll do better next time.
M: Thank you. You really comforted me.
8.C 9.B 10.B
M: Wow, that looks like an expensive camera, Jessica.
W: Well, it wasn’t cheap, but it was on sale. I saved some money from the presents I received from my relatives, which was almost enough. And my parents paid the rest.
M: But why spend all that money on a camera?
W: Because I wanted a camera that could help me learn how to take better pictures. I’m really fond of photography. And although I’m not sure whether I want to take it up as a career, I do take it seriously as a hobby.
11.C 12.C 13.A
M: Amanda, what on earth made you move to the countryside?
W: Well, I’ve always dreamed of being a writer. So I finally thought I should give it a try.
M: But why the countryside? You love city life, don’t you?
W: Yes, I do. But I need peace to write. The city noise was killing my creativity. I couldn’t focus for even an hour.
M: What about money? Writing doesn’t pay well at first.
W: I’ve earned plenty working as a lawyer all these years. Now I can use the money to make my dream come true. Besides, I’ve already rented a small house with a garden. It costs much less than my city apartment. And when I’m stuck for ideas, I can work there.
M: That sounds like a plan.
14.B 15.B 16.C 17.A
M: Now, could you please tell me about some of the outdoor activities during the festival?
W: Of course, sir. What would you like to know first?
M: Wild swimming, what’s that?
W: It just means swimming in natural waters rather than a swimming pool.
M: Okay. In a lake or a river, for example.
W: Yes, there’s a beautiful lake just outside the town, and that’ll be the place for swimming. There’ll be lifeguards on duty, so it’s suitable for all ages. And finally, there’ll be a walk in some nearby woods every day. The leader is an expert on insects. He’ll show some living in the woods and explain how important they are for the environment.
M: Sounds great.
W: And if you’d like to read about how the preparations for the festival are going, the festival organizer is keeping a blog. Just search for the festival website, and you’ll find it.
M: Well, thank you very much for all the information.
W: You’re welcome.

A篇
21. B 细节理解(推理判断) 定位文章中:第一段:“Sri Lanka equals tea in people’s minds…walk in the footsteps of historic tea planters…follow the 19th-century tracks…pass through hill towns and tea plantations…taste a cup of Ceylon tea.”
A. “It highlights ancient art.” C. “It features traditional philosophy.” D. “It represents water-based lifestyle.”
22. C 推理判断 定位文章中:第三段:“Sleep on Water…guided whale-watching trips…Ahousaht share…philosophy…celebrating…interconnectedness of people and nature…”
C选项“Sleep on Water.”
“Wander Tea Trails.” B. “Cruise an Epic River.” D. “Explore Ancient Art.”
23. C 推理判断(文章出处)定位全文主旨:整篇文章介绍四个特色旅游目的地,语言生动、富有感染力,每段结尾都强调体验感(如“taste a cup”, “highlight the region’s culture”, “celebrating…”, “reflect early human life”),是典型的旅行杂志风格。
“An art textbook.” B. “A trip schedule.” D. “An academic article.”

根据第一段中“As the Chinese submersible Fendouzhe dived deeper, Weishu Zhao — an microbiologist at Shanghai Jiao Tong University — glimpsed creatures glowing green, yellow, and orange against the dark. Upon reaching the sea floor, more than 10,000 meters down, the team switched on the submersible lights to reveal “a profound and mysterious blue” filled with drifting creatures.随着中国潜水器 “奋斗者” 号下潜得更深,上海交通大学的微生物学家赵维戍瞥见了在黑暗中发出绿色、黄色和橙色光芒的生物。到达一万多米深的海底后,团队打开了潜水器的灯光,展现出 “一片深邃而神秘的蓝色”,里面充满了漂浮的生物) 可知,第一段主要描述了研究人员看到的海底场景。故选 A。
根据第二段中 “Between August and November 2021, Fendouzhe made dozens of dives in the Mariana Trench and neighboring regions, bringing back numerous samples.(在 2021 年 8 月至 11 月期间,“奋斗者” 号在马里亚纳海沟及周边地区进行了数十次下潜,带回了大量样本)”可知,“奋斗者”号已经完成了许多深海潜水任务。故选D。

根据最后一段中 “But they also discovered that deep-sea microbes seem to have a knack for breaking down pollutants and using them for energy, she says, suggesting these organisms “might offer new solutions to current human environmental pollution problems.”(但他们还发现,深海微生物似乎有一种分解污染物并将其用作能量的诀窍,她说,这表明这些生物 “可能为当前人类环境污染问题提供新的解决方案。”)”
根据第三段中“The survey, however, is somewhat at odds with other data collected by Glassdoor.”
- A:新概念出现在第二段,并不是引用该人物的目的;
- B:强干扰项,经济学家并未着力阐释数据冲突;
根据文中 “They are hungry for coaching and welcome in‑office collaboration yet also desire the death of the nine‑to‑five mentality and embrace flexibility.”
- A:反感朝九晚五体制,并不代表一定要五点前下班,属于偷换概念;
- B:与原文“乐于办公室协作”信息相悖;
根据文中第四段Z世代崇尚工作灵活性,以及第六段 “Side hustles are central to Gen Z’s identity, offering creative or activist outlets that main jobs cannot supply.”
- A:高薪与光鲜头衔是传统主业的追求,和副业无关;
- B:文中并未提及副业要求工作时长短、工作轻松;
根据文章最后一段“They’re not rejecting ambition — they’re redirecting it toward sustainable career paths that prioritize both financial security and personal fulfillment.” 故选 A。
- B:依靠努力获取权力,属于上一代人的传统职业成功观;
- C:夸大原文信息,他们并非为爱好主动放弃晋升,只是不再盲目追逐管理岗位;

后文“It’s a longterm professional path that allows you to use your skills and hobbies to earn a living and make a huge contribution to your country.” B选项“A career is more than just a good job.(一份职业不仅仅是一份好工作)”引出下文对职业的解读,承接上文。故选B。
G 选项 “It’s important to keep an open mind as you explore your options.(在探索各种选择时,保持开放的心态很重要)” 承接上文众多职业选择,引出下文要跳出舒适区去调研。故选 G。

Wander Tea Trails
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka equals tea in people’s minds. Now visitors can walk in the footsteps of historic tea planters on the new, nearly 200-mile Pekoe Trail, the country’s first long-distance walking route. Starting just outside Kandy, it follows the 19th-century tracks upon which workers transported freshly picked leaves. Hikers pass through hill towns and tea plantations and can stop to taste a cup of Ceylon tea.
Cruise (乘船游览) an Epic River
Colombia
About 80 percent of Colombians live in the river basin of the Magdalena, which flows for nearly a thousand miles from the Andes to the Caribbean. Ama Waterways’ new cruises on the river journey upstream during seven-night trips from Cartagena to Barranquilla. Performances of vallenato music and visits to a stilt-house village highlight the region’s culture along the impressive waterway.
Sleep on Water
Tofino, British Columbia
The newly reopened Tofino Wilderness Resort is a peaceful base from which to explore the western coast of British Columbia. Through guided whale-watching trips or visits to the Freedom Cove artists’ shelter, the Ahousaht share with guests their philosophy, hishuk ish tsawalk (“everything is one”), celebrating the interconnectedness of people and nature in a land they’ve occupied for thousands of years.
Explore Ancient Art
Algeria

Filling your cup isn’t easy. We live in an age where exhaustion is worn like a badge, and burnout is celebrated. When you’re a business owner, rest simply doesn’t happen unless you schedule it in.
When I started my business, I was already a mother and a wife, and it took destroying my health for me to learn how to fill my cup. Like many others, I became an entrepreneur because I was after flexibility — which is why, when I woke up four years later with a medically-prescribed (医嘱的) heart rate monitor and a severe anxiety diagnosis, I knew that everything was about to collapse around me. I handed the business over to one of my managers and walked away from everything I had built. From then on, learning how to fill my cup became the change that brought me to my happily ever after.
Today, I coach small businesses and one of the most important survival strategies I consider a must-have for entrepreneurs is figuring out how to refill your cup. There’s no one-size-fits-all. Some people might love a bubble bath, but others might not. As your needs change, so should the way you refill your cup.
I teach people to rebuild a connection to themselves by paying attention to what they’re really needing. It often appears in the words that follow “I am”. When you start seeing the statement “I am” as a boundary, it changes everything. Take a simple phrase, like “I am tired”. Instead of simply seeing that as a statement, recognize the need behind it — rest. Adjust your day’s agenda to the needs behind those “I am” statements. If you realize you haven’t rested enough, you can postpone office work and take a screen-free walk in nature instead.
These days, I build daily rhythms that keep my cup full. I enjoy using essential oils in my office, walking along the beach, spending time with friends who also run businesses, and sharing family responsibilities with my husband. These practices aren’t luxuries; they are survival strategies that allow me to show up fully for my clients, my family, and myself.
24.Why did the author decide to give up running her business?
A.She had to change due to poor health.
B.She longed for an unrestricted free life.
C.She intended to work as a full-time coach.
D.She wished to spend more time with her family.
25.What can we learn about “I am” statements in paragraph 4?
A.They urge people to reflect on past plans.
B.They teach people to control their emotions.
C.They allow people to identify their real needs.
D.They help people to express themselves clearly.
26.According to the text, “refill your cup” most probably refers to ________.
A.an escape from reality B.a focus on social bonds
C.a pursuit of fixed daily routines D.a gain in energy and mental well-being
27.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.The Power of Positive Thinking B.Life After Entrepreneurial Burnout
C.A Better Way to Organize Your Day D.Recharging Yourself in a Right Way
C
As the Chinese submersible Fendouzhe dived deeper, Weishu Zhao — an microbiologist at Shanghai Jiao Tong University-glimpsed creatures glowing green, yellow, and orange against the dark. Upon reaching the sea floor, more than 10,000 meters down, the team switched on the submersible lights to reveal “a profound and mysterious blue” filled with drifting creatures. “At that moment,” Zhao says, “I knew immediately that the deep ocean must be a much more thriving habitat than we had imagined.”
The Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench (海沟), the deepest of the world’s trenches, has long fascinated scientists and adventurers alike. To reach those depths, researchers used Fendouzhe, which Douglas Bartlett, a deep sea microbiologist, describes as “an engineering miracle.” Capable of carrying three people to the very deepest parts of the ocean, the vessel (船) is equipped with a pair of robotic arms and a sample basket, enabling it to collect hundreds of samples in a single dive. Between August and November 2021, Fendouzhe made dozens of dives in the Mariana Trench and neighboring regions, bringing back numerous samples.
“An incredible level of diversity was uncovered,” Bartlett says, referring to one new study that identified more than 7,000 new species in the Mariana Trench, 89% of them new to science. The study co-author Mo Han says these species have evolved strategies to survive despite darkness and a scarcity of nutrients. “Life finds more than one way,” Han says.
Besides revealing a thriving ecosystem, the researchers also witnessed disturbing signs of human activity. During their dives, Zhao explains, the team came across plastic bags, beer bottles, and soda cans — and even a nearly undamaged laundry basket at the deepest part of another seafloor chasm, the Yap Trench. “This was deeply shocking to us,” Zhao says. But they also discovered that deep-sea microbes seem to have a knack for breaking down pollutants and using them for energy, she says, suggesting these organisms “might offer new solutions to current human environmental pollution problems.”
28.What is mainly presented in paragraph 1?
A.The scene the researchers saw.
B.The equipment used in the dive.
C.The history of deep-sea exploration.
D.The challenges faced by the researchers.
29.What can we know about Fendouzhe?
A.It tests samples during dives.
B.It operates without human pilots.
C.It's China’s most advanced vessel.
D.It has finished many deep-sea dives.
30.According to Mo Han, what’s the most impressive aspect of the new-found species?
A.Their ability to glow.
B.Their rapid reproduction.
C.Their survival approaches.
D.Their remarkable diversity.
31.What might be the focus of the future study according to the last paragraph?
A.Technology for deep-sea trash collection.
B.The impact of human trash on deep-sea life.
C.Microbes' potential to reveal the ecosystem.
D.Microbes' transformation of pollutants into energy.

Gen Z is changing the rules of work, and the results are redefining what professional success looks like in 2025. According to a new Glassdoor report, “career minimalism” is at the heart of this shift.
In Glassdoor’s survey of more than 1,000 U. S. professionals, a striking 68% of Gen Zrespondents said they wouldn’t pursue management if it weren’t for paycheck or title, signaling a rejection of the traditional corporate climb favored by previous generations and a belief that management is something of a poisonous chalice (圣杯).
The survey, however, is somewhat at odds with other data collected by Glassdoor. Daniel Zhao, chief economist for the company, told Fortune that an earlier report had found Gen Zentering the ranks of management at the same rates as older generations did. “Management is not for everybody, and that’s okay,” he said, “but it is still seen as the best path for climbing the career ladder.”
What the new survey suggests is that management is now seen as a career-ladder move, not something good in its own right. Gen Z approaches life’s traditional milestones with “reasoned skepticism”. They are hungry for coaching and welcome in-office collaboration yet also desire the death of the nine-to-five mentality and embrace flexibility.
If Gen Z isn’t less ambitious yet isn’t thrilled about corporate management, where’s that energy going? The report cited Harris Poll findings that 57% of Gen Z currently have a side hustle (副业) compared to 48% of millennials and 31% of Gen Xers.
Side hustle s are central to Gen Z’s identity, offering creative or activist outlets that main jobs cannot supply. For many, the “day job” simply finances the “passion project” — as one Glassdoor community member put it: “I always joke that I don’t dream of labor… If people were truly passionate about their job, it wouldn’t pay anything. Passion is for your five-nine after the nine-five.”
When Gen Zers do move into management, Glassdoor finds that they’ re rewriting the traditional book. Gen Z is reconsidering what it means to be successful at work in this moment. They’ re not rejecting ambition — they’ re redirecting it toward sustainable career path s that prioritize both financial security and personal fulfillment.
32.Why is Daniel Zhao quoted in paragraph 3?
A.To draw attention to a new concept.
B.To confirm the accuracy of the report.
C.To raise awareness of a worrying trend.
D.To offer another perspective on the survey.
33.What might a typical Gen Zer do?
A.Make critical remarks.
B.Leave work no later than 5.
C.Seek guidance from seniors.
D.Avoid working with colleagues.
34.What factors may Gen Z consider in side hustles?
A.High pay and grand titles.
B.Short hours and easy work.
C.Personal identity and flexibility.
D.Benefits and working conditions.
35.What is the professional success defined by Gen Z?
A.Earning money with meaning.
B.Winning power through effort.
C.Dropping promotion for hobbies.
D.Staying put for financial security.

Last spring, my two daughters, Nina, 10, and Ruby, 8, had developed a habit of constantly wanting more. During a car ride home from school, they chattered endlessly about what their friends had. “Mom, Lily got the newest tablet for her birthday,” Nina sighed. “Can we go to the water park this weekend?” Ruby asked hopefully. When I gently explained that we needed to save money, their faces fell into familiar disappointment.
That evening at dinner, the complaints continued. “Why do we always have the same food?” Ruby pushed her plate away. Nina joined in, comparing our modest home to her friend’s larger house. Finally, I’d had enough. “Girls,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm, “we have a roof over our heads, money in our pockets, and almost everything we want in the supermarket. Do you realize how lucky we are?” But they just looked at me blankly. They didn’t believe me. To them, “lucky” meant having what others had — and we didn’t have enough.
My work often took me overseas. For years, I’d traveled to rural communities in East Africa, supporting education programs through the charity I worked for. I’d witnessed roofs leaking, children sharing worn pencils and not having enough food for lunch. There were no proper desks and chairs in the classroom. I’d been out there to help, but there was still a lot of work to do in some remote schools. I’d told my girls stories from my trips, and they’d always listened with curiosity — but stories were different from reality.
That night, I lay awake thinking. A local teacher I’d met in Uganda had repeatedly invited me to bring my family. Perhaps it was time.
The next morning at breakfast, I made my announcement. “Girls, we’re going to Uganda together. For two weeks.”
Nina and Ruby stared at me, stunned. Then came the excitement — not for the lesson I hoped they’d learn, but because they imagined an African adventure.
Weeks later, we arrived. Our first night was spent under mosquito nets in a shabby guesthouse.
