Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m Li Hua from Senior Three. As the graduation exam approaches,I am faced with a difficult decision regarding my college major, which has led to a disagreement between my parents and me.
I have long dreamed of majoring in journalism because I am passionate about documenting real-life stories and speaking up for the public. However,my parents hold a different opinion and hope that I will choose engineering,as they believe it will bring me a more stable and promising career. Though I understand their worries about my prospects,I am unwilling to give up my personal interest.
Therefore,I am writing to ask for your professional advice. Could you give me some practical suggestions on how to balance my own dream with my parents’ expectations?Besides,I would greatly appreciate it if I could have a face-to-face talk with you. I am free every afternoon after school. Please let me know what time suits you best.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Anxious but determined,Ethan made his way to his father’s study. Having entered the room,he plucked up his courage to tell his father about his long-term despair and helplessness. He admitted his severe addiction to online games, which had thrown his daily schedule into total disorder and blocked his academic progress. Worse still, his lack of self-discipline and that vicious cycle had dragged him into the virtual world deeper and deeper. Although sometimes he set positive goals for study and exercise, his weak determination failed him again and again. Caught in a painful inner struggle,he didn’t have any idea what to do. He sighed that he had no one but his father to turn to for guidance,to get him back on track and to help him reshape a healthy lifestyle.
Sensing his sincere regret, his father patted his shoulder and invited him to walk to the park together. Lowering his head,Ethan followed his father out. Rather than criticizing his mistake, his father talked softly about how he had always noticed Ethan’s tired look and missed his sunny and lively big boy...The words were flowing into Ethan’s mind and some long missed warmth crawled upon his heart. His father also told him that growth is full of mistakes and frustrations, but whatever problems he faced, his family would always be his firm backup. Moved by his father’s unconditional love and tolerance,Ethan finally got relief. Staring at the cloud with a silver lining,he picked himself up and prepared to rise to the real-life challenges ahead.

根据NeMO-Net部分第一句“Turn coral research into an iPad game”以及后文“The game is friendly to younger users”可知,该项目的核心呈现形式就是一款iPad游戏。
根据Space Cloud Watch部分“Take photos and record the date, time and place…A report that no such clouds appeared is useful too…” A项“正午时分拍摄的照片”与原文“just before dawn or just after sunset”矛盾;C项“每朵云的精确垂直高度”与D项“当地气温的日变化”原文均未提及。
根据文章开头第一句“NASA’s citizen science projects let ordinary people contribute to real research.”
根据第一段“…the country had very few specialists.Travelling to a hospital cost time and money…”
根据第三段“…they listened, helped the person name the problems causing the greatest pressure and discussed one practical step forward…Their role was to help people recover a sense that action was possible.”
根据第四段 “The grandmothers often spoke the same local language as their clients and understood the conditions behind their worries.”以及紧随其后的“This allowed care to reach people who might never enter a specialist clinic.”
D项“Effective support does not always have to come from specialists”与此完全吻合。
根据第一段尾句“Rather than focusing on dramatic conflicts,it invites viewers to experience a quieter and more reflective way of living...”以及第三段首句“What makes the drama particularly appealing is its calm and realistic style.”
根据第三段尾句“These scenes not only create a strong contrast with modern fast-paced life, but also allow viewers to slow down both physically and mentally, experiencing a sense of peace...”
根据第四段“This suggests a growing desire…to seek lifestyles that feel more authentic and balanced.”
根据第二段“...play a key role in planning,decision-making and controlling behavior...weigh risks, consider consequences and adjust their actions instead of simply reacting...”
根据第三段前两句“Unlike many other parts of the brain, the frontal lobes develop gradually over a long period of time.Research has shown that while the brain reaches most of its physical size during the teenage years, these regions continue to mature well into a person’s mid-20s.” B项“It continues long after physical growth ends”精准概括了这一时间差特征。
根据画线词所在句前文“connections between nerve cells are strengthened or removed depending on how frequently they are used”(神经元之间的连接会根据使用频率被强化或剔除),以及后半句“which means that repeated experiences can...”(这意味着重复的经历能够……) 此处mold意为“塑造、影响”,与B项 have effects on(对……
根据末段中“regular practice, such as focusing on important tasks...can strengthen these brain functions over time”以及“brain development is not only a biological process but also one that can be shaped and improved through experience and learning”可知,专注任务、解决问题等积极的行为习惯与实践锻炼,能够主动优化并塑造大脑的运转机制。
38.G “During my time there”中的there需要前文先出现地点。
staring(盯着看)最符合耐心观察的语境,而pointing(指)、waving(挥动)、jumping(跳)都是主动身体动作,与静静观察树叶的场景不符。
42.C 后文多次提到“birds travel in such groups”和“large,mixed-species flocks”,说明这里描述的是鸟群。
platforms(平台)、peaks(山峰)、roofs(屋顶)都与树木无关。
returns(回归)最符合,disappears(消失)则相反,occurs和lasts与“安静回来”的语义不搭配。
effectively(有效地)符合捕食效率这一目的。deliberately(故意地)、frequently(频繁地)、gradually(逐渐地)都与“捕虫效率”无关。
escapes(逃脱)是最自然的动词。separates(分离)不涉及逃逸行为,differs(不同)和suffers(遭受)完全无关。
consist of(由…… approve of(赞成)、account for(解释/占比)、stand for(代表)都不符合这里的构成关系。
rarely(很少)形成的对比最强烈。normally/usually(通常)与事实相反,occasionally(偶尔)的对比力度不够。
sighs(叹气声)、whispers(低语)、rhymes(押韵词)都不适合描述雨林中的猴群。
presents(呈现/展示)表示主动展现出来。acquires(获得)、protects(保护)、produces(生产)与句意无关,所以选presents更准确。
remarkable(非凡的)符合对奇特自然现象的赞美。peaceful(平静的)、powerful(强大的)、sustainable(可持续的)都不符合这里描述隐藏生物和行为时的语气。
copy(模仿)是最直接准确的词。create(创造)、remember(记住)、improve(改进)都与“模仿”无关。
Hanging(悬挂)准确描述了蝙蝠的倒挂习性。Nesting(筑巢)、Leaning(倚靠)、Lying(躺)都不符合蝙蝠的典型姿势。
wonder(惊奇/惊叹)符合这种初见美景的情绪。pride(骄傲)、direction(方向)、duty(责任)都与语境无关。
speech(讲话)、rest(休息)、sight(视力/景象)都不符合“穿过森林找鸟”的动作逻辑。
所给提示词为动词expand(扩大、扩张),其名词形式为expansion(注意拼写:词尾字母d变为-sion),故填expansion。
考查“find + it + adj.+ to do sth.” 真正的宾语是不定式短语“to protect such traditions”,空处需用it作形式宾语。

Well, entrepreneurs the year, I can't quite believe IT. You know, i've never really thought of myself as a businessman in my own mind. I've always been a simple inventor, so IT feels a little strange to be accepting an award for my business success. Money has never been a real motivator for me. And to me, that's the real mark of an entrepreneur. We turn problems into gold. That's the spirit I look for whenever I take on a new employee. And as a result, i'm surrounded by a team of innovators. I couldn't have achieved half of what I have without them. So this award really belongs to everyone at EB. G. global. Anxious but determined,Ethan made his way to his father's study.Having entered the room,
he plucked up his courage to tell his father about his long-term despair and helplessness. He
admitted his severe addiction to online games, which had thrown his daily schedule into total
disorder and blocked his academic progress.Worse still, his lack of self-discipline and that vicious
cycle had dragged him into the virtual world deeper and deeper.Although sometimes he set positive
goals for study and exercise, his weak determination failed him again and again.Caught in a painful
inner struggle,he didn't have any idea what to do.He sighed that he had no one but his father to turn
to for guidance,to get him back on track and to help him reshape a healthy lifestyle.
Sensing his sincere regret, his father patted his shoulder and invited him to walk to the park
together.Lowering his head,Ethan followed his father out.Rather than criticizing his mistake, his
father talked softly about how he had always noticed Ethan's tired look and missed his sunny and
lively big boy...The words were flowing into Ethan's mind and some long missed warmth crawled
upon his heart. His father also told him that growth is full of mistakes and frustrations, but whatever
problems he faced, his family would always be his firm backup.Moved by his father's unconditional
love and tolerance,Ethan finally got relief.Staring at the cloud with a silver lining,he picked
himself up and prepared to rise to the real-life challenges ahead.

(GLOBE Observer、Galaxy Zoo、Space Cloud Watch、NeMO-Net),
根据NeMO-Net部分第一句“Turn coral research into an iPad game”以
及后文“The game is friendly to younger users”可知,该项目的核心呈现形式就是
“volunteers to classify”,从未出现“game”;C项Space Cloud Watch为实地观测
根据Space Cloud Watch部分“Take photos and record the date, time and
place..A report that no such clouds appeared is useful too..”

A项“正午时分拍摄的照片”与原文“just before dawn or just after
根据文章开头第一句“NASA's citizen science projects let ordinary people
contribute to real research.”
科学研究,且后文明确“The four choices below require no professional training”。A
项“研究地球上的自然事件”不准确,因为Galaxy Zoo研究星系,属于天文范畴;
Dixon Chibanda
根据第一段“.the country had very few specialists.Travelling to a hospital
cost time and money.”
根据第三段“..they listened, helped the person name the problems causing
the greatest pressure and discussed one practical step forward...Their role was to help
people recover a sense that action was possible..”
“were not asked to act as doctors”矛盾;B项“为客户做困难决定”她们只是讨论步
根据第四段“The grandmothers often spoke the same local language as their
clients and understood the conditions behind their worries.”
allowed care to reach people who might never enter a specialist clinic.”可知,“This”
A项“专科诊所提供的护理”与后半句“never enter a specialist clinic'”矛

D项“Effective support does not always have to come from specialists”与此完
A项“老年人更适合提供社区照护”与原文“age does not make someone less
根据第一段尾句“Rather than focusing on dramatic conflicts,it invites
viewers to experience a quieter and more reflective way of living.”
“What makes the drama particularly appealing is its calm and realistic style.”
根据第三段尾句“These scenes not only create a strong contrast with
modern fast-paced life, but also allow viewers to slow down both physically and
mentally,experiencing a sense of peace..”
原文“experiencing a sense of peace”的高阶概括;A项“映照角色的渐进成长”偏
根据第四段“This suggests a growing desire..to seek lifestyles that feel
more authentic and balanced..”

根据第二段“.play a key role in planning,decision-making and controlling
behavior...weigh risks, consider consequences and adjust their actions instead of simply
reacting.”
根据第三段前两句“Unlike many other parts of the brain, the frontal lobes
develop gradually over a long period of time.Research has shown that while the brain
reaches most of its physical size during the teenage years, these regions continue to
mature well into a person'smid-2Os.”
B项“It continues long after physical growth
根据画线词所在句前文“connections between nerve cells are strengthened
or removed depending on how frequently they are used”(神经元之间的连接会根据使
用频率被强化或剔除),以及后半句“which means that repeated experiences can.”
造、影响”,与B项have effects on(对…
根据末段中“regular practice,.such as focusing on important tasks..can
strengthen these brain functions over time”以及“brain development is not only a
biological process but also one that can be shaped and improved through experience and

A项“我
38.G
“During my time there”中的there需要前文先出现地点。
staring(盯着看)最符合耐心观察的语境,而
pointing(指)、waving(挥动)、jumping(跳)都是主动身体动作,与静静观察树叶
42.C后文多次提到“birds travel in such groups'”和“large,mixed-species flocks”,说明这
platforms(平台)、peaks(山峰)、roofs(屋顶)都与树木
returns(回归)最符合,disappears(消失)则相反,occurs
effectively(有效地)
deliberately(故意地)、frequently(频繁地)、gradually(逐
escapes(逃脱)是最自然
separates(分离)不涉及逃逸行为,differs(不同)和suffers(遭受)完全
consist of(由…
approve of(赞成)、account for(解释/占比)、stand for(代表)都不符合这里的构成
rarely(很少)
normally/usually(通常)与事实相反,occasionally(偶尔)的对
sighs(叹气声)、whispers(低语)、rhymes(押韵词)都
presents(呈现/展示)表示
acquires(获得)、protects(保护)、produces(生产)与句意无关,
remarkable(非凡的)符合对奇特自然现象的赞

Citizen Science Projects You Can Join
NASA’s citizen science projects let ordinary people contribute to real research. The four choices below require no professional training, but they differ in the equipment, place and time involved. Some can be started indoors, while others ask you to observe the sky or land outside.
GLOBE Observer
Take a smartphone outdoors and use an app to photograph clouds, record land use, look for mosquito habitats or estimate tree height. The observations are added to an open data set and may be compared with satellite information. Families, students and club members can work as teams, and the project is available in many countries.
Galaxy Zoo
This online project asks volunteers to classify images of galaxies by answering questions about their shapes. A ten-minute lesson teaches the basics, and an online guide offers examples. After that, you may work for as long or as little as you like on any internet-connected device. Unusual objects can be discussed with the science team online.
Space Cloud Watch
During summer at high latitudes (高纬度地区), look just before dawn or just after sunset for noctilucent clouds. Take photos and record the date, time and place. Each session takes about 10−20 minutes. A report that no such clouds appeared is useful too, and a camera or smartphone is enough.
NeMO-Net
Turn coral research into an iPad game. Players “paint” ocean images to classify coral reefs. Their work helps computers learn to recognize different reef types and supports maps of changing ocean habitats. The game is friendly to younger users, so a special science background is not needed.
21. Which project is presented as a game?
A. GLOBE Observer. B. Galaxy Zoo. C. Space Cloud Watch. D. NeMO-Net.
22. What should Space Cloud Watch participants report?
A. The photographs taken at the midday hours.
B. The presence or absence of the target clouds.
C. The exact vertical height of each single cloud.
D. The daily changes recorded in local air temperatures.
23. What do the four projects have in common?
A. They study natural events on the Earth.
B. They use complex scientific tools for tests.
C. They need teamwork from all the participants.
D. They allow ordinary people to support science.
B
When psychiatrist (精神科医生) Dixon Chibanda began working in Zimbabwe, he faced a problem no single doctor could solve. Many people needed support for depression, but the country had very few specialists. Travelling to a hospital cost time and money, so advice to “see a professional” often led nowhere.
Chibanda looked for help closer to where people lived. Older women were already trusted community figures. They had experience of family conflict, loss and financial pressure, and people were willing to speak with them. He began training grandmothers in problem-solving therapy. Some experts doubted whether women without university degrees could provide useful care.
The grandmothers were not asked to act as doctors. Sitting with a client on a wooden bench outside a health centre, they listened, helped the person name the problems causing the greatest pressure and discussed one practical step forward. They also learned when a case required professional attention. Their role was to help people recover a sense that action was possible.
The ordinary setting mattered. A bench did not feel like a hospital room, and a conversation there could be part of daily life. The grandmothers often spoke the same local language as their clients and understood the conditions behind their worries. This allowed care to reach people who might never enter a specialist clinic.
The project became known as the Friendship Bench and later spread beyond its starting communities. Research found that the approach could reduce signs of depression, but Chibanda saw a wider lesson. Knowledge does not always arrive wearing a white coat, and age does not make someone less able to learn a new role. The bench itself has no special power. Its value comes from two people sitting at the same level, treating a heavy problem as something that can be carried together.
24. Why was professional help for depression hard to get in Zimbabwe?
A. People had little trust in medical workers.
B. People had limited access to specialist care.
C. People preferred support from family members.
D. People avoided talking about emotional problems.
25. What was central to the grandmothers’ role?
A. Giving clients a medical diagnosis.
B. Making difficult choices for clients.
C. Providing follow-up care in specialist clinics.
D. Helping clients move toward practical action.
26. What does “This” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. The care offered in specialist clinics.
B. The setting of the bench conversations.
C. Their familiarity with clients’ language and lives.
D. The spread of the project beyond its starting communities.
27. What lesson does the Friendship Bench offer?
A. Older people are better suited to providing community care.
B. Informal settings can be more effective than specialist clinics.
C. Emotional support works best when it includes practical advice.
D. Effective support does not always have to come from specialists.

In recent years, fast-paced urban life has made many people long for a slower and more meaningful way of living. Against this background, the TV drama To the Wonder, adapted from Li Juan’s prose collection My Altay, has attracted wide attention. Set in Altay, the story not only presents breathtaking natural scenery, but also offers a thoughtful reflection on life, identity and belonging. Rather than focusing on dramatic conflicts, it invites viewers to experience a quieter and more reflective way of living, which stands in clear contrast to the pressures of modern society.
The drama follows Li Wenxiu, a young woman who returns to her hometown after facing setbacks in both her career and personal dreams. Living with her mother and interacting with local herders, she gradually reconnects with the land and rediscovers a sense of purpose. Through her journey, the audience is encouraged to rethink what truly matters in life, especially in a world where success is often measured by speed, competition and external achievement.
What makes the drama particularly appealing is its calm and realistic style. Instead of relying on dramatic events or sudden plot changes, it focuses on everyday moments such as watching the grasslands, preparing simple meals and observing seasonal changes. These scenes not only create a strong contrast with modern fast-paced life, but also allow viewers to slow down both physically and mentally, experiencing a sense of peace that is often missing in daily life.
The influence of the drama goes beyond the screen. After its release, tourism in Altay increased noticeably, with more people eager to experience its natural beauty and cultural traditions. This suggests a growing desire among viewers to reconnect with nature and to seek lifestyles that feel more authentic and balanced. In this sense, the series functions not only as entertainment but also as a reflection of shifting values in contemporary society, highlighting a deeper reconsideration of how people choose to live.
28. What distinguishes To the Wonder from conventional TV dramas?
A. Its vivid description of urban struggles.
B. Its dramatic plots and intense conflicts.
C. Its gentle rhythm and focus on daily life.
D. Its creative use of modern visual effects.
29. Ordinary routines are highlighted in the drama to ________.
A. mirror the gradual growth of the character
B. invite the audience to reflect on their inner peace
C. expose the growing anxiety of modern society
D. stress the harmonious bond with the natural world
30. What can be inferred from the boom in Altay’s tourism?
A. Cultural works reshape regional identities. B. Nature reserves become top destinations.
C. Urban viewers pursue calmer lifestyles. D. Local governments shift economic focus.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. To the Wonder: A Quiet Answer to a Rushed Life
B. Redefining Success: Why Young People Head West
C. Scenic Altay: Promoting Tourism through TV Series
D. From Book to Screen: The Power of a Moving Story
D
Have you ever wondered why teenagers often act on impulse or find it difficult to stay focused? In recent years, scientists and educators have increasingly connected these behaviors to brain development, especially to a region known as the frontal lobes. According to research from Harvard University and the National Institute of Mental Health, this explanation provides valuable insight into how young people think, make decisions and respond to different situations.
The human brain is made up of different regions, each responsible for specific functions. The frontal lobes, located at the front of the brain, play a key role in planning, decision-making and controlling behavior. Developmental psychologist Laurence Steinberg describes this area as the brain’s “control center” because it allows people to weigh risks, consider consequences and adjust their actions instead of simply reacting to immediate situations. This ability becomes especially important in situations that require patience or careful judgment.
Unlike many other parts of the brain, the frontal lobes develop gradually over a long period of time. Research has shown that while the brain reaches most of its physical size during the teenage years, these regions continue to mature well into a person’s mid-20s. During this process, connections between nerve cells are strengthened or removed depending on how frequently they are used, which means that repeated experiences can mold how efficiently the brain works.
This slow development has a direct influence on decision-making. In teenagers, emotional responses are often strong and immediate, while the systems responsible for control and reasoning are still developing. As a result, emotions may sometimes guide behavior more than careful thinking, especially in situations involving risk, pressure or social influence.
However, this does not mean that young people are unable to improve their self-control. Scientists suggest that regular practice, such as focusing on important tasks, solving problems and making thoughtful choices, can strengthen these brain functions over time. In this way, brain development is not only a biological process but also one that can be shaped and improved through experience and learning.
32. What makes the frontal lobes the brain’s “control center”?
A. Strong desire for immediate gains. B. Instant response to strong feelings.
C. Direct defense against mental stress. D. Thoughtful regulation of daily behavior.
33. What is a typical feature of the brain’s maturing process?
A. It ends before a child reaches teenage years.
B. It continues long after physical growth ends.
C. It proceeds at the same speed across all parts.
D. It slows down when young people face challenges.
34. What does the underlined word “mold” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Set a limit to. B. Have effects on.
C. Keep track of. D. Make room for.
35. What does the last paragraph mainly suggest?
A. Risky choices cause lasting brain harm. B. Heavy schoolwork brings mental stress.
C. Brain maturity depends largely on age. D. Active habits reshape how brains work.

The Observant Gardener: Tending to Daily Garden Chores
Now that fall has begun, I have been reflecting on this year’s growing season. 36 Weeding, cutting overgrown plants, cleaning out beds, watering when conditions are dry — the list goes on and on. All of these add up to a garden that is tended to and functioning well.
By October every year, I start to clean up my garden to prepare for winter. I remove dead plants from their beds and put them into the fertilizer bin. I cut back evergreens and remove dead ones. 37 At the same time, I plant daffodils for next spring. Each season has its own chores to prepare for the upcoming season.
38 During my time there, I saw varying results. One woman started in the spring with great energy and attention, but after a short time, she lost interest. By August, she was not visiting her plot and her vegetables began to rot, unpicked. 39 Over the summer they harvested abundant flowers and vegetables because they consistently tended to their plants.
As I work on the garden after my vacations, I realize that I do many garden chores almost every day without much effort. It takes only a few minutes to weed one small area or to pick ripe pumpkins. For these chores, I rely on my garden tools, gloves and boots. 40
Successful gardening amounts to paying attention and following through with what needs to be done at any one time. Whatever we put our attention on will flourish, and a flourishing garden can give us much enjoyment.
A. I have learned that daily garden chores matter.
B. Other gardeners paid close attention to their plots.
C. Having the right tool is essential to work effectively.
D. Fall is also the time to note what grew well in my journal.
E. The changing seasons remind us that nature follows its own rhythm.
F. I used to think gardening was just planting seeds and waiting for rain.
G. I first learned about the cycle of garden chores years ago in a community garden.

“GAME OVER” … the big words bouncing up and down within the pop-up window, Ethan sighed in despair. He felt all his energy drained away (抽空). He had been glued to his desk, playing games non-stop for three hours this weekend.
His eyes were burning and dry, his shoulders stiff and sore from sitting motionlessly for so long. Staring blankly at the flickering screen, he slowly leaned back in his chair, his mind totally blank, fingers still trembling slightly from the intense gaming session.
A wave of helplessness flooded his heart. Deep down, Ethan knew he was trapped in a vicious cycle He hated wasting precious weekend time on virtual games, yet he could not tear himself away once he picked up the mouse. He intended to finish school assignments and exercise outdoors, but every good plan ended up in failure. He felt isolated and confused, not knowing how to drag himself out of the mess.
Just then, his mom pushed the door open gently, holding a cup of warm water. She had noticed his door closed all afternoon and knew he had been stuck in front of the screen again. She placed the water on his desk softly and patted his tired shoulder lightly. “You’ve been sitting here for hours. Your dad and I were worried about you. Weekends are for rest and recharge,” she said in a gentle, helpless tone.
Ethan hung his head, a sharp sense of guilt welling up in his chest. He did not dare to look up and meet his mom’s eyes. He knew his parents had always hoped he could develop good habits and manage his time well, but he had let them down again and again.
He suddenly realized how terrible his condition was. Long-term gaming had ruined his life and distanced him from the world. His academic performance declined rapidly, causing lots of quarrels with his parents. After a long spell of painful self-reflection, he understood he could not overcome this addiction alone. “It is high time that I should reset the button.” Ethan thought.
