Over the past decades, many people have made great contributions to our country’s development, helping it grow through their hard work. They are national heroes. Now let’s learn about three of them.
Yu Min, 1926 — 2019 Nuclear physicist
On 17 June, 1967, China set off its first hydrogen bomb (氢弹). It took only 32 months to go from its first atom bomb (原子弹) to its first hydrogen bomb. As a nuclear physicist, Yu Min played an important role in this process. The theories and models he created were key to the successful test.
Zhang Fuqing, 1924 — 2022 War veteran
Zhang was a soldier in the People’s Liberation Army during the Liberation War. He was twice awarded the title of Combat Hero. In 1955, he volunteered to work in a remote (偏远的) county in Hubei Province and had been helping poor people there ever since.
Yuan Longping, 1930 — 2021 “Father of Hybrid Rice”
Yuan Longping devoted himself to agricultural education and research. He was the first person in the world to develop a hybrid rice strain (杂交水稻品种). His research on higher rice yields (产量) helps fight hunger in China and other parts of the world.

根据张富清的介绍内容,明确提到“He was twice awarded the title of Combat Hero”,C选项表述符合原文。A选项,“他如今仍是解放军士兵”与原文“Zhang was a soldier in the People’s Liberation Army during the Liberation War”的表述不符;B选项,“1954年被派往偏远县”与原文“In 1955, he volunteered to work in a remote (偏远的) county in Hubei Province”的表述不符;D选项,原文提到“had been helping poor people there ever since”,说明他一直帮助当地贫困人口,并没有限定帮扶对象是“贫困儿童”。
【3题详解】
根据袁隆平的介绍部分,明确说明“He was the first person in the world to develop a hybrid rice strain”,这是他被称为“杂交水稻之父”的原因。
【4题详解】
原文张富清板块明确说明“In 1955, he volunteered to work in a remote county in Hubei Province and had been helping poor people there ever since”,和B选项表述完全一致。A选项,原文明确说明“Yuan Longping, 1930 — 2021 ‘Father of Hybrid Rice’”和“Yu Min, 1926 — 2019 Nuclear physicist”,研发杂交水稻的是袁隆平,于敏是核物理学家,人物事迹匹配错误;C选项,原文提到“He was twice awarded the title of Combat Hero.”,两次获得战斗英雄称号的是张富清,并非袁隆平,人物事迹匹配错误;选项D,原文提到“On 17 June, 1967, China set off its first hydrogen bomb (氢弹).”,我国第一颗氢弹爆炸成功的时间是1967年6月17日,1955年是张富清赴湖北工作的年份,时间信息混淆错误。

Wan Haibo, a 43-year-old deliveryman (快递员), was honored as a national model worker on April 28, 2025, in Beijing. He received this honor for his excellent delivery work and active volunteer work. Wan said, “I feel very excited and proud.”
Born in the countryside in Handan, Wan became a deliveryman in Tianjin in 2017. “It’s necessary to send every parcel (包裹) right to the customer in time,” he told the reporter. “The job is laborious, experiencing sunburn and wind. I thought about stopping, but finally got through the difficulties.”

Wan is a warm-hearted person who often pays much attention to the old and the disabled. He usually gets medicine for them and takes away their rubbish when delivering parcels.
Wan has also been a volunteer in his community since April 2022. As a volunteer, he helps to check the area’s sanitation conditions (卫生状况) and safety risks for the community.

Isaac Newton was a quiet boy. Having lost his father before he was born, he grew up with his grandmother. At 18, soon after he finished schooling, Newton would spend his time making small tools. His head teacher saw the genius in him and asked his mother to send him to the university. Newton set out for Cambridge in June, 1661.
Newton was always trying to understand and explain a lot of things in nature. To test a question about colours, he would stare at (凝视) the sun with one eye until all the colours changed. As a result, he had to stay in the dark for some time before his eye returned to normal. Newton was the first to show us that white light is made up of colours mixed together. He was also the first person to understand the rainbow and explain how it forms.
A story goes like this: One day, an apple fell on Newton’s head, and it was then that Newton realized that the apple fell towards Earth and didn’t go anywhere else. He thought to himself, “How did this happen?” After doing some experiments, he later knew all objects always fall towards Earth’s centre because Earth attracts them. He realized that every object in the universe attracts every other object towards it. Then Newton discovered the law of universal gravitation.
Newton was an English physicist, mathematician and astronomer. Because of the significant work Newton has done, he is widely considered as one of the greatest scientists of all time.
9. What can we learn about Newton from Paragraph 1?

10. Which words can best describe Newton when he was testing a question about colours?
A. Careful and lucky. B. Skilful and smart.
C. Relaxed and excited. D. Hard-working and patient.
11. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A. When an apple fell on Newton’s head.
B. How one object attracts another object.
C. Why Newton was famous among people.
D. How Newton made the important discovery.
12. What can you learn from Newton’s experiences?
A. Time waits for no man.
B. Practice makes perfect.
C. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
D. Roses given, fragrance in hand.

阅读短文,然后根据内容回答问题。
Chen-Ning Yang, a physicist and a Nobel Prize winner, passed away in Beijing on Oct. 18 at the age of 103, China Daily said. He was a professor at Tsinghua University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1957, Yang and his friend Tsung-Dao Lee won the Nobel Prize in Physics. They discovered parity non-conservation in weak interactions (弱相互作用中宇称不守恒). This finding changed how people understood symmetry (对称性) in nature. Physics shows beauty through symmetry, while life is often full of complexity (复杂性). Yang’s life showed this truth.
When he was 35, Yang became the first Chinese to win the Nobel Prize. In 1971, when the US allowed travel to China again, Yang was one of the first Chinese-American scientists to return, Xinhua reported. For years, he travelled between the two countries, giving lectures and writing to introduce China to the world.
In 2003, Yang moved back to Beijing and taught physics at Tsinghua University at the age of 81. He started from basic ideas like time and light speed. Yang didn’t use PowerPoint and graded homework by hand. He also helped build a world-class research centre at Tsinghua.
In 2015, Yang gave up his US citizenship (公民身份). He then became a Chinese member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017. He called his home “Gui Gen Ju”, showing that his life had come full circle.

Since the reform and opening-up, especially in the new century, great changes have taken place in my hometown.
In the old days, people used to live in small and broken houses. But now most people live in apartments in tall buildings. In the past, people mainly depended on walking or riding bicycles for transportation. However, now we have convenient buses, subways, and even high-speed railways, which have greatly made travel faster and easier. In the past, people wrote letters to keep in touch with others.
