How can you remember a song from your childhood to this day? Why do your teachers use songs to teach you English? It seems there is a scientific reason for this.
Researchers are now studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They find that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language.
“Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are used in a catchy and meaningful way,” said Dr. Karen Ludke. The findings may help those who have difficulty learning foreign languages. On her blog Dr. Ludke wrote,“A listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning and open the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the value of using and singing. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington D.C., depends heavily on songs in teaching Chinese. She says,“I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids usually we use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics. So it’s easy for them to start because they know the music. Not only does it work but it is fun for the kids.”
“Sometimes I think if I were taught English that way maybe I would speak much better English than now,” Hua Zhuying adds.
Our brain likes music especially for remembering. So if you’re still struggling (努力) in learning a language, why not try singing it out?
8.The underlined word “catchy” probably means________
A.晦涩难懂的 B.悦耳易记的 C.枯燥乏味的
9.Dr. Ludke believes that foreign language learning can be supported by________.
A.using the listen-and-repeat singing method
B.listening to all kinds of famous music
C.writing songs with the language
10.From the passage we know that Hua Zhuying________.
A.is interested in writing English songs
B.teaches children English by using music
C.teaches Chinese in an American school
11.The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A.many researchers realize the importance of language studying
B.your brain remembers a language better if you sing it
C.many language teachers know the value of famous music
D
Recently, experts are studying how language could influence children’s lives. They did a survey of 2,001 parents with children under 18, and another survey of over 500 business leaders.
The study shows that children who can speak different languages are more aware (意识到) of different cultures and other people’s ideas. This helps them better understand the world and makes it easier for them to find good jobs when they grow up.
In the future, there will be new kinds of jobs, such as space tour guides, robot coaches and e-commerce (电商) workers. No matter what job a child chooses, people who can speak several languages and understand different cultures will have more advantages.
So, which languages are the most useful? The results show that children should learn French, German or Chinese if they want to be successful in the next ten years. Speaking one of these languages can help businesses enter new markets and build relationships with future partners.
However, the survey also found something surprising — not all parents realize the importance of learning a second language. About 85% of parents think it is important, but over 45% admit (承认) that their children cannot speak a second language. Even 15% of parents think learning a second language is a waste of time.
If you want your child to stand out from the crowd, here is some advice from parents of successful people: give children housework to do, set high but realistic (现实的) goals, keep learning yourself, and spend time together. And of course, make sure they learn a second language — especially French, German or Chinese!
12.The study is mainly based on ________.
A.a survey of 2,001 children under 18
B.a survey of 2,001 parents and over 500 business leaders
C.a survey of more than 500 business leaders only
13.According to the study, speaking different languages can help children ________.
A.become more aware of different cultures and points of view
B.get better grades in all their school subjects
C.travel to more countries for free
14.What did the survey find about parents?
A.85% of parents think learning a second language is a waste of time.
B.Over 45% of parents say their child cannot speak a second language.
C.15% of parents believe it is important to learn a second language.
15.The purpose of the passage is to ________.
A.introduce ways of learning foreign languages
B.describe the advantages of learning different languages
C.advise parents to make their kids learn a second language

Few people see the world in two ways, and even fewer can share that understanding with the world. But Pearl S. Buck did. 16 She also worked hard for poor children and other people who needed help.
Imagine growing up within two very different worlds. Pearl was born in the United States but grew up in China. She learned English from her mother and Chinese from her local friends. 17 She watched farmers working in the fields, kids playing along rivers, and busy market streets. All of these early memories influenced her whole life.
As she grew up, Buck became a well-known writer who showed China to readers around the world. Her book The Good Earth sold really well in America. 18 Buck wrote about common Chinese farmers, families and daily life. She hoped her books could show readers both happiness and difficulties in normal people’s life. In 1938, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature. 19 She believed stories could bring people closer and build better understanding between different groups.
20 She set up Welcome House to help homeless kids. This organization helped kids of different backgrounds get new families. In almost 50 years, over 5,000 children found their home through it. For Buck, helping people in need was just as important as writing stories for them.
A.However, writing was not the only meaningful part of Buck’s life.
B.Lots of Chinese farmers read her books and loved her ideas deeply.
C.It even received one of America’s most famous writing prizes in 1932.
D.She was the first American woman to get this top world literature prize.

第三部分 写作(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共5小题;满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题,并将答案写到答题卡的相应位置
We do almost everything in a hurry these days — finish meals quickly, finish school or work tasks fast, and even hurry to exercise. We live a fast life just because we think we can’t manage our time well. We try to do as many things as we can each day and tick off tasks on our to-do lists. But this busy life always makes us feel we never have enough time.
We care more about doing more things than doing things well, just because we think speed is the most important. For a long time, people believe being fast means working hard and being successful. So we keep rushing through everything in life. But sometimes, we face a problem: no matter how fast we act, we can never finish our endless tasks and goals.
Then comes the Slow Movement, which tells us the answer is not to live faster, but to live a slow life. This movement first started with the Slow Food Program in 1986. It asks people to say no to fast food, keep traditional cooking ways, and enjoy making and eating food slowly.
This good idea soon spread from food to other parts of life. In 1999, it helped start Cittaslow (慢城) , a group that wants to make city life slower and more relaxing. Soon, this idea began to influence many areas, like work, travel, daily life and even the clothes we wear.
The most important idea of the Slow Movement is to value quality more than quantity (数量). Slow living is a popular lifestyle from this movement. It helps us get out of the endless rush, so we can enjoy the quiet moments of rest. It tells us to value every moment and spend enough time on everything we do. We don’t have to fill every minute with tasks. Today, more people love the Slow Movement, as social media shows them many good things about slow living.
41.Why do people live a fast life according to the passage?
42.What have people long considered the most important thing in life?
43.When did the Slow Food Program start?
44.What can the Slow Movement help people do in daily life? (At least two things.)
45.Do you want to live a slow life? Why or why not?

E.She could enjoy both the quiet family life and noisy public streets in China.

【答案】12.B 13.A 14.B 15.C

【答案】41.Because they think they can’t manage their time well. 42.They believe speed means being hard-working and successful./Speed. 43.It was set up in 1986. 44.It can help people get out of the endless rush and enjoy the quiet moments of rest. 45.Yes, I do. Because it helps me enjoy moments of rest and value quality.
第一段“We live a fast life just because we think we can't manage our time well.”可推知,人们选择快节奏生活的原因是他们认为自己无法掌控时间,提炼答案即可。
42.第二段“We care more about doing more things than doing things well, just because we think speed is the most important.”可推知,长期以来人们认为生活中最重要的是速度,提炼答案即可。
43.第三段“This movement first started with the Slow Food Program in 1986.”可推知,慢食计划开始于1986年,提炼答案即可。
44.第五段“It helps us get out of the endless rush, so we can enjoy the quiet moments of rest.”
