Hello everyone. Here I want to introduce two useful machines to you. Do you hate doing housework? Well, a robot cleaner will be a good choice for you. It is small and round, only eight centimeters high. Press the green button, and it starts to move around your living room. A computer inside helps it see chairs, table legs, shoes, and even your pet. When something is close, it stops at once, so nothing is broken. After one hour, the floor is clean and the machine returns to its base to charge itself. You can watch TV or do your homework while it works.
The second useful machine is a smart fridge. It looks like a normal fridge, but it has a large screen on the door. The screen shows what is inside: three apples, one bottle of milk, four eggs. It also tells you when food goes bad. When the milk is too old, the screen turns red, and you hear a soft beep. I think this is the most useful function. If you do not know what to cook, touch the screen and choose “cookbook”. It will teach you more than one thousand dishes with pictures and clear steps. You can also use the screen to send emails, listen to music, or surf the Internet while you wait for the water to boil. With these machines, housework becomes faster and life becomes easier. Pretty cool, right?

Zhang Wei is a 32-year-old engineer from Shanghai. In 2020, he made a big decision — he left his well-paid job in the city and returned to his hometown in Gansu Province to start a new project.
Zhang Wei’s hometown is a small village in the mountains. When he was a child, the village was very poor. People used to farm on small pieces of land. There was no running water or electricity in many homes. Children had to walk over two hours to get to the nearest school.
After Zhang Wei finished college, he worked in Shanghai for eight years. During those years, he never forgot his hometown. He often thought about how to help the village develop. Finally, he decided to go back and bring changes.
Zhang Wei used his engineering skills to build a small factory that uses solar energy (太阳能). The factory produces machines that help farmers water their crops more efficiently. With these machines, farmers can save water and grow more vegetables. “In the past, farmers had to carry water from faraway rivers,” Zhang Wei said. “Now, our machines do the hard work.”
Over the past six years, the village has changed a lot. More than 50 families have started using solar energy in their homes. A new school has been built with the money from the factory. Young people who left the village are starting to come back to work in the new factory.
Zhang Wei feels proud of what he has done. “Development doesn’t mean everyone has to go to big cities,” he said. “We can also make our hometowns better with our knowledge and effort.”

C
So, it’s exam time again. Have you done the necessary work to get good scores?
Some students sleep with the textbook under the pillow (枕头) in the hope that knowledge will be magically going to their brain. But it doesn’t work. The best way is to practice repeatedly over a long period of time instead of learning all things in a short time before exams. Just as a scientist called Tom Stafford advises, if you organize five hours of study into one hour a day, you’ll remember more than if you study for five hours on one day.
________— get a pen and paper and start working. Students who can test themselves earlier will be better at getting back the knowledge from the memory and keep it in the long run. John Dunlosky, a professor of Psychology at Kent State University in the US; suggests that “You start by reading a textbook with your favorite pens and colors; and then write down the important ideas on small cards. While doing so, you actually try to test yourselves on them.”
Good revision (复习) should give you confidence. But if you are still worried, some special traditions are suggested. In Japan it seems to be a tradition for students to eat Katsudon before a test. This is a howl of rice with egg and pork pieces; The name of the dish makes people think of the word “Katsu”, meaning “winning”, For some students in South Korea, the key to success is not washing their hair before an exam, because they believe they could wash all the knowledge out of their heads. And in different parts of the world, there are always those who believe in their “lucky socks”.
The bottom line is that you need to stay healthy. Eating good meals, drinking enough water and sleeping well on the eve of the test help a lot. They make it easier for you to get success.
Good luck in your exam!
31.How many suggestions are mentioned in this passage?

C.Chinese students. D.American students.
34.What can you know from this passage?
A.The traditions about exams always work out.
B.Writing while reading is just a waste of time.
C.To memorize the knowledge, some people even choose to sleep with the textbook.
D.The bottom line is that you need to study hard.
35.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Are you worried about your exam? B.Are you ready for your exam?

Ocean plastic pollution is a severe global problem. More than 8 million tons of plastic flow into the oceans every year. It harms marine life, damages coral reefs, and threatens human health through the food chain. To fight this crisis, Chinese engineers have developed AI-powered litter collectors, which are now widely used in coastal (沿海的) areas of Guangdong Province, Fujian Province, and other southern provinces.
These smart devices use high-sensitivity (高灵敏度) cameras and advanced AI to quickly identify plastic bottles, bags, and other common waste. They move slowly and steadily (稳定地) on water, collect litter automatically, and send real-time data to the control center. Unlike traditional manual (人工的) cleanup, they can work 24 hours a day without getting tired. ▲ What’s more, they can tell plastic apart from seaweed and small marine life accurately, avoiding unnecessary harm to ocean ecosystems.
Local fishermen have noticed clear positive changes. “The water near our village is much clearer now,” said Mr. Li, a fisherman from Guangdong Province. “We even see more fish swimming around our boats.” The collectors have picked up over 50 tons of plastic waste in three months, showing great efficiency in pollution control.
The word “eco-friendly” is often used to describe such devices. They run completely on solar energy stored in built-in batteries and produce no detrimental emissions at all. Experts believe that their wide use in global rivers and coastal waters will greatly help protect marine ecosystems.
This technology shows that science and innovation can provide effective solutions to environmental problems. Small actions and smart inventions can together make our planet cleaner and healthier for future generations.
36.How many tons of plastic probably go into oceans every year according to the passage?
A.3 million tons. B.5 million tons. C.8 million tons. D.10 million tons.
37.Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 2?
A.They lower the risk of dangerous coastal cleaning work.
B.They rely on much human help.
C.They only work in deep seas.
D.They waste lots of energy.
38.What does the underlined word “detrimental” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Harmful. B.Healthy. C.Natural. D.Wasteful.
39.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Traditional methods are more efficient. B.AI collectors made of plastic.
C.The water becomes cleaner because of the collectors. D.The cleanup is all done by hand.
40.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Ocean plastic pollution is a small problem.
B.Fishermen help collect plastic in oceans.
C.Coral reefs are important for marine life.
D.AI-powered devices help fight ocean plastic pollution.

Are your fruits and vegetables really clean enough to eat? Sirish Subash, a 14-year-old student from Snellville, Georgia, US, recently won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge. 41 This won him $ 25,000 and the title of “Best Young Scientist in America”.
Subash’s idea for the tool came from a simple yet important question. His mother always told him to wash fruit before eating it. 42 He learned that 70 percent of fruits and vegetables have pesticides. They can bring possible health problems like cancer. Washing only gets rid of part of the pesticides.
“If we could find them, we could avoid eating them and lower the risk of those health problems,” Subash said. 43 It works by shining lights and seeing how light reflects (反射) off food. With the help of a sensor (传感器), a screen and an AI learning model, the tool can find out if there are pesticides around.
To use it, users must point PestiSCAND at the fruit or vegetable to see if they need to wash it again. 44 During testing, PestiSCAND was right more than 85 percent of the time in finding pesticides.
Subash plans to improve his tool and hopes to get it to market by the time he starts college. 45 “In 15 years, I hope to be designing and building devices that can help make the world a better place,” said Subash.

Ocean plastic pollution is a severe global problem.More than 8 million tons of plastic flow into the oceans
every year.It harms marine life, damages coral reefs, and threatens human health through the food chain. To fight
this crisis,Chinese engineers have developed AI-powered litter collectors, which are now widely used in coastal
(areas of Guangdong Province,Fujian Province, and other southern provinces.
These smart devices use high-sensitivity (cameras and advanced AI to quickly identify plastic
bottles, bags, and other common waste. They move slowly and steadily (on water, collect litter
automatically, and send real-time data to the control center.Unlike traditional manual (cleanup, they can
work 24 hours a day without getting tired.A What's more, they can tell plastic apart from seaweed and small
marine life accurately, avoiding unnecessary harm to ocean ecosystems.
Local fishermen have noticed clear positive changes."The water near our village is much clearer now,"said
Mr.Li,a fisherman from Guangdong Province."We even see more fish swimming around our boats."The
collectors have picked up over 50 tons of plastic waste in three months, showing great efficiency in pollution
control.
The word"eco-friendly"is often used to describe such devices. They run completely on solar energy stored
in built-in batteries and produce no detrimental emissions at all.Experts believe that their wide use in global rivers
and coastal waters will greatly help protect marine ecosystems.
This technology shows that science and innovation can provide effective solutions to environmental
problems.Small actions and smart inventions can together make our planet cleaner and healthier for future

26.What was Zhang Wei’s job before he returned to his hometown?
A.A teacher. B.A farmer. C.An engineer. D.A doctor.
27.Why did Zhang Wei decide to return to his hometown?

A.Five. B.Four. C.Three. D.Two.
32.Which sentence can be best put in __________ in Paragraph 3?
A.Don’t text yourself very often B.Don’t read your textbooks loudly
C.Don’t depend on memory alone D.Don’t stay up late
33.Who usually avoid washing hair before the tests?
A.Korean students. B.Japanese students.
C.Are you busy with your exam? D.Are you satisfied with your exam?
D

A.This led Subash to invent PestiSCAND, a small tool that people can carry around.
B.They can check the results in an app on their phones.
C.The percentage of fruits and vegetables with pesticides (农药).
D.The boy wondered if the action did any good.

26.What was Zhang Wei’s job before he returned to his hometown?
A.A teacher. B.A farmer. C.An engineer. D.A doctor.

A.Five. B.Four. C.Three. D.Two.

A.Korean students. B.Japanese students.
C.Are you busy with your exam? D.Are you satisfied with your exam?

A.This led Subash to invent PestiSCAND, a small tool that people can carry around.
B.They can check the results in an app on their phones.
C.The percentage of fruits and vegetables with pesticides (农药).
D.The boy wondered if the action did any good.
E.His love for science will never go away.
