The old saying, "A person who travels far knows more", conveys that the value of travel lies not in miles covered, but in the continuous expansion of our minds.
Last year, I hiked along the ancient Silk Road in Xinjiang. Standing before a weather-beaten beacon tower in the Gobi Desert, I suddenly sensed the loneliness of ancient guards stationed and keeping watch there. Running my fingers over rough aged bricks, I seemed to feel centuries of dust come alive. Later, I was treated to warm salty milk tea and fresh nang by a local Uyghur family, whose sincere hospitality left a deep impression on me.
This far-reaching journey did more than broaden my sight; it opened my heart to lives and stories that textbooks can hardly record. Books grant us knowledge, yet real-world travel brings us genuine insight, which, I believe, is the precious reward of traveling far.
Super awkward, I turned around and wanted to drive my Batmobile away. No sooner had the kids seen my strange behavior than the laughter faded away all of a sudden. “Is Batman escaping?” asked a child, his voice filled with genuine concern. I found myself rooted to the ground, unable to inch forward. Some awful memories flashed back in front of my eyes, making me feel my blood freeze. My heart was beating painfully fast, and my mind went totally blank. Another child broke the ice by yelling from the top of his lungs, “Batman never escapes!” It was his inspiring words that brought me back to reality, and I eventually gathered up my courage to do what Batman would do.
I ran into the party, and they were all clapping their hands for me. I failed to contain my feelings, with excitement written all over my face. It struck me that I was the only one bothered by me and my mustache. Feeling on top of the world, I cracked a smile at these little angels and opened my mouth, “Batman’s here! Who wants to fight against bad guys with me?” “Me!” they replied in chorus, and a trace of joy can be noticed in their voices, for which my long-lost confidence found its way back. Cape blowing in the wind, tears welling up in my eyes, I got rid of insecurity and self-doubt lingering in my heart and resolved to stay positive in the face of adversity.

和“Participants must work out at the location they sign up at and are not permitted to use other locations.(参与者必须在其注册的地点进行锻炼,不得使用其他地点。)”及“How It Works”中的“Under 18? Bring a parent or guardian to sign the electronic agreement.(18岁以下?
根据“Further Notes”中的“Your Fitness Journey Continues! Transition to paid membership is optional after August 31st.(您的健身之旅仍在继续!8月31日后,可选择转为付费会员。)”
通读全文,根据首段“With the High School Summer PassTM, you can get FREE access to participating Planet Fitness (PF) in New York City.
根据第一段中“But Thorleifsson soon discovered he couldn't help with the simple request: A 20-centimetre step blocked his access to the store. (但是Thorleifsson很快发现他无法满足这个简单的要求:一个20厘米的台阶挡住了他进入商店的路。)”可知,生活中的不便激发了他修建坡道的灵感。故选A项。
根据第四段中“Having recently sold his digital creative agency, Ueno, to Twitter, Thorleifsson now had the financial means to make a difference in his hometown. (Thorleifsson最近将他的数字创意公司Ueno卖给了Twitter,现在他有了在家乡有所作为的财力。)”可知,Thorleifsson出售公司所得的钱使他开始这个项目成为可能。故选B项。
26.C 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Unlike portable and temporary solutions in other cities, these ramps are permanent structures that match the aesthetic of the buildings, making them appear as if they’ve always been there. (与其他城市的便携式和临时解决方案不同,这些坡道是与建筑美学相匹配的永久性结构,使它们看起来好像一直都在那里。)”可知,Thorleifsson的项目特殊之处在于与周围环境融为一体。故选C项。
27.D 推理判断题。根据第五段中“Ramp Up Reykjavik was launched as a non-profit in 2021 with a goal to build 100 ramps, mostly in the city's down-town, within a year. (雷克雅未克Ramp Up于2021年作为非营利组织启动,目标是在一年内建造100个坡道,坡道主要在市中心。)”和最后一段中“With the help of government funding and other sponsors, the Ramp Up team finished ahead of schedule and has broadened its scope to all of Iceland, with the goal of building1,500 ramps countrywide by 2026. (在政府资金和其他赞助商的帮助下,Ramp Up团队提前完成了计划,并将其范围扩大到整个冰岛,目标是到2026年在全国范围内建造1500个坡道。)”等内容可知,Thorleifsson是个慷慨大方、乐于助人的人。故选D项。
【C篇导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了小蚂蚁如何影响狮子的捕猎方式。
28.B 词句猜测题。根据上文“The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves. This is highly effective; the ants not only physically harm the herbivores(蚂蚁正在积极攻击并赶走试图以树叶为食的食草动物。这是非常有效的;蚂蚁不仅在身体上伤害食草动物)”可知,蚂蚁对合欢树具有保护作用。由此猜测“but also release chemicals that can deter other potential attackers.”
根据文章第四段“This ant invasion(入侵) affects one thing after the other. It leaves the acacia trees defenseless against herbivores especially elephants. The elephants come in and eat the acacias at five to seven times the rate observed in uninvaded areas. The lions, while hunting for food, have no more trees to use for hiding.(蚂蚁的入侵影响了一件又一件事。这使得金合欢树无法抵御食草动物,尤其是大象。大象吃金合欢的速度是未被入侵地区的5到7倍。狮子在寻找食物的时候,没有更多的树可以用来躲藏。)”可知,在食物链中大象破坏狮子的藏身之处。故选B。
30.C 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““These tiny invaders are pulling on the ties that put an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,” said Todd Palmer, an ecologist from Florida.(来自佛罗里达州的生态学家托德·帕尔默(Todd Palmer)说:“这些微小的入侵者正在拉动非洲生态系统的纽带,决定谁被吃掉,在哪里被吃掉。”)”和最后一段“The lions, which are already endangered, are managing to cope with this by no longer focusing their attention on zebras. The zebras, of course, can see them much better on the approach given the lack of cover. Instead, they are targeting water buffalo.
通读全文,并根据文章第一段“But the lions in East Africa should concern themselves with the seemingly insignificant ants, because these ants are changing their lifestyles.(但是东非的狮子应该关注这些看起来微不足道的蚂蚁,因为这些蚂蚁正在改变它们的生活方式。)”
根据第二段“Current methods for preventing virus spread via surfaces usually involves cleaning and disinfection. Disinfectant must remain wet for some time to kill bacteria. This can be challenging in some real-world settings. Surfaces can also be recontaminated quickly when touched by others. And disinfection often requires harsh chemicals which can damage equipment and the environment.(目前通过物体表面预防病毒传播的常用手段,通常包括清洁与消毒。消毒剂必须在表面保持湿润一段时间,才能杀灭病菌。这在一些实际应用场景中很难做到。物体表面一旦被其他人触碰,还会很快再次受到污染。而且消毒过程往往需要使用刺激性强的化学药剂,这类药剂还会损坏设备、破坏环境。)”可知,第二段主要介绍传统消毒剂及消毒方式存在的各类弊端。
33.A 细节理解题。根据第三段“Experiments the team did with gold-coated wings, which resemble the wings of dragonflies, confirmed this bacteria-killing effect is not driven by surface chemistry, but rather by the physical nanostructures on the surface which essentially force bacterial cell walls to stretch and burst.(该团队利用仿蜻蜓翅膀结构的镀金翅片开展实验,证实这种杀菌效果并非由表面化学作用驱动,而是源自表面的物理纳米结构;这类纳米结构会从根本上迫使细菌细胞壁拉伸并破裂。)”
根据第四段“These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force.(这些纳米柱会抓住并拉伸病毒外壳直至使其破裂,依靠机械力杀灭病毒。)”
通读全文特别是根据第一段“Now a team of researchers led by Elena Ivanova created a thin plastic surface with tiny nanoscale features, billionths of a metre in size, that copy the nanostructured surface of insect wings and can physically burst viruses the moment they land.(如今,由埃琳娜·伊万诺娃带领的一组研究人员研发出一种带有微小纳米级结构的薄塑料表层,其尺寸仅为十亿分之一米;该表层复刻了昆虫翅膀的纳米结构表面,病毒一旦落在上面,就会被物理方式裂解。)”以及第四段“In this new study, the researchers created a virus-bursting material that was lightweight and flexible: a thin plastic film covered in thousands of tiny pillars (柱子). These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force.(在这项新研究中,研究人员研制出一种可裂解病毒的轻质柔性材料:一种布满数千根微型柱体的塑料薄膜。

故填 a。
either...or... 故填 or。
逻辑主语 I 与 draw 之间为被动关系(be drawn to 被……
______ I thought was quite accurate This means I have an analytical and curious mind, often drawn to difficult ideas and theories,关系代词在该从句中作主语,I thought 作插入语,关系代词 which 符合要求。故填 which。
While I am identifying myself as an introvert,省略 I am 后,用现在分词 identifying。故填 identifying。
故填 that。
结合 imperfections(不完善之处)和 the MBTI offered valuable insights into our collaborative styles(MBTI 为我们的协作方式提供了宝贵见解)可知,前后之间存在让步关系,介词 despite 表示 "尽管",符合句意。故填 despite。

W: I'm on my own. It's up to me.
M: If I were you, I would find out how many job openings there are for computer technologies.
W: I have. There are many openings.
M: I suggest you pursue the career you like most.
W: But I can't. I've never taken courses in Computer Technology. How can I compare the two?
M: You'd better take a few courses in Computer Technology first, and then you can decide afterwards.
W: That's a good idea.
M: Then, I suggest you should make arrangements to take two courses in Computer Technology immediately.
W: Thank you.
Text 9
M: I'd like to go to America, but I don't know if I can get a visa.
W: Do you have any other ideas?
M: I've heard that Germany is nice too.
W: Do you speak German?
M: A little, but I'm willing to learn it.
W: You′re right in considering different countries because of the visa. But I suggest you think about why you want to study abroad. If you want to improve your English skills, it would be best to go to a native English-speaking country. England, Canada, America, and Australia are the most popular countries for studying abroad.
M: Oh. Well, can you tell me how to apply for my visa?
W: First, I think you should look into some schools and apply. If you are accepted, then the universities will offer you some guidance on applying for the visa.
M: When should I send my application forms in?
W: Do it as early as possible. Over the summer, you can do some research on the schools. Then, you can send out for application forms in September. Try to send them back to the schools by December. That will give you plenty of time to sort out the visas.
Text 10
I always dreamed of opening my own restaurant. I always loved cooking. So when it came time for college, I knew that the cooking institute was definitely the place for me, although a lot of my friends went to study computer and my father wanted me to study science. And when I graduated, I couldn't wait to get started. Well, that was probably my first mistake. I didn't go slowly. I picked a building for my restaurant in a residential neighborhood. I took great efforts in decoration. But the parking in the neighborhood was really difficult. I didn't have enough regular customers, because people didn't really drive by and see it. At first, I thought it was great not to have any competition, but I realize now that another restaurant or two would have brought people into the area. My other mistake was that I wanted to serve only the best and use organic food. Well, the problem with that was I had to charge a lot of money for the meals. That didn't help business either. If I had only known then what I know now!

Late one night in July 2020 in Reykjavik, Haraldur(Halli) Thorleifsson was wandering around the city’s main shopping street with his wife and two kids. During their walk, his three-year-old son was thirsty and wanted a drink from the corner store. But Thorleifsson soon discovered he couldn’t help with the simple request: A 20-centimetre step blocked his access to the store.
The barrier was all too familiar. Born with muscular dystrophy, which causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle, Thorleifsson, now 46, has been using a wheelchair since he was 25. As he waited outside, he recalled, “I thought about how strange it is that we separate families in this way. I thought about all the times I wasn’t able to join my friends at restaurants, pubs and stores that are inaccessible.”
Living all over the world as a creative director and digital designer in cities such as San Francisco and Tokyo, Thorleifsson had witnessed first-hand how different cities consider and plan for accessibility, from ramps(斜坡) and sidewalks to public transportation.
Having recently sold his digital creative agency, Ueno, to Twitter, Thorleifsson now had the financial means to make a difference in his hometown. He decided to start with a project to make Iceland wheelchair accessible, one ramp at a time.
Ramp Up Reykjavik was launched as a non-profit in 2021 with a goal to build 100 ramps, mostly in the city’s down-town, within a year. Unlike portable and temporary solutions in other cities, these ramps are permanent structures that match the aesthetic of the buildings, making them appear as if they’ve always been there. It’s a design detail that helps provide a sense of inclusivity.
With the help of government funding and other sponsors, the Ramp Up team finished ahead of schedule and has broadened its scope to all of Iceland, with the goal of building 1,500 ramps countrywide by 2026.
24. What inspired Thorleifsson to build the ramps?
A. His inconvenience in life. B. His childhood experience.
C. A request from his wife. D. His desire to make a fortune.
25. What made it possible for Thorleifsson to start the project?
A. Great donations from society.
B. Money from sale of his company.
C. Full support from the government.
D. A wealth of experience in management.
26. What is special about Thorleifsson’s project?
A. It is non-profit. B. It highlights the details.
C. It fits in with the surroundings. D. It solves the problem temporarily.
27. Which of the following words can best describe Thorleifsson?
A. Flexible and thoughtful. B. Modest and considerate.
C. Selfless and confident. D. Generous and helpful.

An ancient Latin proverb says “Aquila non capit muscas” —cagles don’t hunt flies—meaning that important ones shouldn’t concern themselves with small, insignificant matters. But the lions in East Africa should concern themselves with the seemingly insignificant ants, because these ants are changing their lifestyles.
The story starts with the acacia trees(金合欢树) in an African wildlife area in central Kenya. Some of these acacia trees provide food and shelter for specific ant species, which in turn defend the tree against herbivores(食草动物). The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves. This is highly effective; the ants not only physically harm the herbivores but also release chemicals that can deter other potential attackers.
But these ants are in trouble. Another species called the “big-headed” ant is destroying entire groups of tree-protecting ants. This, in turn, sets off an entire chain of events that ends up influencing when and how lions can hunt.
This ant invasion(入侵) affects one thing after the other. It leaves the acacia trees defenseless against herbivores especially elephants. The elephants come in and eat the acacias at five to seven times the rate observed in uninvaded areas. The lions, while hunting for food, have no more trees to use for hiding. This reduced tree cover makes lions less successful at hunting and pushes them to find different areas to hunt in.
“These tiny invaders are pulling on the ties that put an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,” said Todd Palmer, an ecologist from Florida.
The lions, which are already endangered, are managing to cope with this by no longer focusing their attention on zebras. The zebras, of course, can see them much better on the approach given the lack of cover. Instead, they are targeting water buffalo. But this also isn’t the end of the story. Who knows what the lions’ changing strategy will mean for the ecosystem down the line?
28. What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Direct. B. Discourage. C. Identify. D. Seek.
29. What role do the elephants play in the chain reaction?
A. Cooperating with “big-headed” ants.
B. Damaging the hiding place for lions.
C. Protecting the acacias from herbivores.
D. Starting off the disturbance of the chain.
30. The author mentions lions, zebras and water buffalo to show that ______.
A. animals fall victim to bigger ones
B. the ecology is on the road to recovery
C. animals are corelated in the ecosystem
D. species are firmly positioned in the food chain
31. Which of the following is probably the best title for the passage?
A. How ants and buffalo defeated lions.
B. How elephants landed zebra in trouble.
C. How trees changed lions’ dinner menu.
D. How tiny ants affect the way lions hunt.

Think of how many surfaces you touch daily, from your work desk to the bus handrails and your phone screen. Viruses can easily spread via these surfaces. Infection typically occurs by touching a contaminated (污染的) surface — and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Now a team of researchers led by Elena Ivanova created a thin plastic surface with tiny nanoscale features, billionths of a metre in size, that copy the nanostructured surface of insect wings and can physically burst viruses the moment they land.
Current methods for preventing virus spread via surfaces usually involves cleaning and disinfection. Disinfectant must remain wet for some time to kill bacteria. This can be challenging in some real-world settings. Surfaces can also be recontaminated quickly when touched by others. And disinfection often requires harsh chemicals which can damage equipment and the environment.
Nature offers examples of bacteria-free surfaces, such as the thin water-resistant wings of dragonflies. While these wings are self-cleaning, they act less by pushing bacteria away and more as natural bacteria killers. Experiments the team did with gold-coated wings, which resemble the wings of dragonflies, confirmed this bacteria-killing effect is not driven by surface chemistry, but rather by the physical nanostructures on the surface which essentially force bacterial cell walls to stretch and burst.
In this new study, the researchers created a virus-bursting material that was lightweight and flexible: a thin plastic film covered in thousands of tiny pillars (柱子). These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force.
The mould (模具) they used to create this material can be easily scaled for industrial use, from food packaging to hospital equipment and office desks. Nanostructured surfaces are built for durability. But they will degrade over time under physical, chemical, and environmental stressors. Much remains to be discovered in the search for bacteria-free surfaces. But these nanostructured surfaces have enormous potential in the fight against viruses and provide an alternative to traditional methods.
32. What does paragraph 2 focus on?
A. The impact of chemicals. B. The risk of recontamination.
C. The challenges of cleaning. D. The disadvantages of disinfectants.
33. What determines the bacteria-killing effect of dragonflies’ wings?
A. Their surface structure. B. Their physical composition.
C. Their exceptional thinness. D. Their water-resistant property.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about regarding the material?
A. Its key components. B. Its working principle.
C. Its potential applications. D. Its production process.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Killing Bacteria: The Role of Chemicals
B. Plastic Film Stops Viruses from Sticking
C. Preventing Infection: The Magic of Nature
D. Nanopillars Tear Apart Viruses on Contact
More than 30% of Gen Alpha children long to become social media creators, with around 32% of 12-to-15-year-olds naming “YouTuber” as their dream job. 36 This is where parental involvement becomes not just helpful, but vital, turning the risks into valuable teachable moments.
To that end, parents should communicate with kids in a curious and open manner rather than being critical. When children express the desire to be online influencers, parents should avoid shutting down their enthusiasm. 37 For example, they can ask why their children want to create online content and what they plan to post. By showing respect for their kids’ interests, parents build trust and naturally introduce safety topics like privacy settings and online boundaries.
Beyond that, parents should help children develop safe digital habits. They can set up accounts together to adjust privacy settings, turn off location tagging, and set strong passwords. Meanwhile, children must be taught not to share private details such as home addresses, school names and daily schedules. 38
Warning children against hidden online dangers is equally necessary. As would-be young influencers start gaining visibility, they may be targeted by scams that aim to steal personal data. 39 They also need to recognize ill-intentioned strangers and dangerous behavior, such as frequent personal messages, requests for secrecy, or pressure to share private photos.
Actually, children’s wish to create online content is a way to express their identity and creativity. 40 With proper parental guidance, young creators can build their voice without compromising their safety.
A. These measures can effectively minimize online risks.
B. However, this pursuit comes with potential digital risks.
C. Teenagers tend to spend much time watching online videos.
D. Parents should fully understand teenagers’ craze for online creation.
E. Kids should learn to identify suspicious links, fake offers, and other traps.
F. Instead, they need genuine conversations to learn about their children’s ideas.
G. Parents can support it through open dialogue, practical habits, and risk awareness.

This year, I decided to take a course called AP Seminar to improve my research, 56 (present) and teamwork skills. To help us, Ms. Maxson divided us into groups. At first, I thought she would assign us 57 (random), but she used a more creative method.
First, she gave us a lecture on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), 58 system that divides people into 16 personality types based on a questionnaire. According to this system, everyone is either introverted (内向的) 59 extroverted; intuitive or sensing; thinking or feeling; and prospecting or judging. Then, we each took the test to discover our type.
What I turned out to be was an INTP—the logician. This means I have an analytical and curious mind, often 60 (draw) to difficult ideas and theories, 61 I thought was quite accurate.
However, I noted the test’s limitations. While 62 (identify) myself as an introvert, I believe my behavior is context-dependent. What bothered me more was 63 the questions seemed kind of easily manipulated (操控) to achieve a desired outcome.
From my perspective, 64 its imperfections, the MBTI offered valuable insights into our collaborative styles. Finally, Ms. Maxson formed groups considering personality compatibility. Since extroverts were the majority, each team 65 (consist) of one introvert and three extroverts. So far, my group has been functioning effectively, and I am optimistic about our project.

After graduating from UCLA as a film-making major, I was filled with confidence, thinking to myself that I was bound to make a splash in this industry. Yet after being declined by countless enterprises, I ended up finding a temporary job as a birthday clown to make ends meet. I had to admit that the pay of playing the clown was pretty decent, but I struggled a lot with my new identity. Every sleepless night, I couldn’t help asking myself the same question, “Shouldn’t I be a filmmaker rather than a joker doing a ridiculous job?”
For certain parties, I had been assigned to play a specific character. Usually, the company would drop off a trash bag filled with a costume for me the night before the party. It was cruel, since these costumes smelled like the broken dreams of every failed actor that’d worn them before me.
One night, they handed me my trash bag and said, “Tomorrow you’re going to be Batman.” At the time I had a giant mustache(胡子), and a superhero with a mustache wasn’t what parents would anticipate. But I wasn’t in the mood to alter my physical appearance for that job, because that would have meant me admitting I was more of a clown than a filmmaker. So I didn’t shave.
The next day, I went to the party. I had to leave my car parked far enough away so that the kids wouldn’t see Batman driving a broken SUV. As a consequence, I had to walk to the party. Normally at these parties, all you have to do is pop in through the front door and say, “Surprise! Batman’s here!”
But a group of kids playing at the front door spotted me approaching, like, a quarter of a mile away, which made me start to regret my option. I was thinking, “Gosh, my stupid mustache is going to ruin this party.” Sure enough, once I got close enough for them to start identifying the features of my face, the entire party burst into laughter.
