Start with small things. If you feel lonely (孤单), try making friends with others. Always start with small steps. Begin communicating with one or two people to get comfortable in socializing (交际). That way your life won’t be too busy and you’ll learn something about communication. Get along with people who have similar interests to you. If you communicate with a few people first, get to know them and try to find your common interests. For example, if both of you like football or basketball, then sports can be a good topic between you. Remember, it’s better to have a few good friends than many not-so-good ones. Having two or three true friends is better than having ten not-so-good friends. If you try to have too many friends, you may feel tired. So try to make friends with people who can help you. Keep positive (积极的) and never compare. Even if you can’t find your true friend in a few months or years, you should keep on trying. Always keep your experiences in the past to go on building your friendships. Also, never forget that every person is special in his/her way. So, don’t compare one friend of yours with another. Find out their differences and show your full respect. If you follow the advice above, you are sure to make your true friends. 11. What should you do if you feel lonely according to Paragraph 2? A. Draw something. B. Make friends. C. Do some reading. D. Do some sports. 12. What does the underlined word “topic” mean? A. Subject. B. Prize. C. Joke. D. Character. 13. Which saying can match (匹配) Paragraph 4 best? A. A good friend is like a mirror. B. A friend is easier lost than found. C. Friends should be few but good. D. A life without a friend is a life without a sun. 14. What does the writer advise (建议) you to do in Paragraph 5? A. Focus on friends’ appearances. B. Try to change friends’ differences. C. Compare friends to find the best one. D. Respect the differences between friends. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. How to Make Friends B. How to Be a Quiet Person C. The Importance of Friends D. Interests Between Friends B Rainforests (热带雨林) are some of the most amazing places on Earth. They cover only about 6% of the world’s land, but are home to more than half of all living things. These dense forests are full of life, from tiny insects to large animals, and from small plants to tall trees. The rainforest has different layers. The top layer is called the emergent layer, where the tallest trees reach up to 70 meters. Below that is the canopy, a thick layer of leaves and branches that stops most sunlight from reaching the layers below. Next is the understory, with smaller trees and bushes. The bottom layer is the forest floor, where only a little sunlight gets through. Many rainforest animals have special skills to live in their layers. For example, sloths hang from the canopy branches. Their long claws help them stay there, and their slow movement helps them save energy. Toucans have big beaks to reach fruit on thin branches that can’t hold their weight. On the forest floor, jaguars use their spots to hide in the shadows while hunting. Rainforests are important for the whole world. They take in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and give out oxygen (氧气), which helps keep the air clean. They also help control the world’s weather. But rainforests are in danger. Every year, large areas are cut down for wood or to make space for farms. This destroys the homes of many animals and plants, and may even change the world’s climate. 16. What percentage of the world’s land do rainforests cover? A. About 6%. B. About 16%. C. About 26%. D. About 36%. 17. What does the word “dense” mean in the first paragraph? A. Dry. B. Thick with plants. C. Cold. D. Easy to walk through. 18. Why do toucans have big beaks? A. To hang from branches. B. To hide from predators. C. To reach fruit on thin branches. D. To run fast on the forest floor. 19. Put the layers of the rainforest from top to bottom. ①understory ②emergent layer ③forest floor ④canopy A. ②→④→①→③ B. ④→②→①→③ C. ②→①→④→③ D. ④→①→②→③ 20. What is the main idea of the passage? A. How animals live in the rainforest. B. The layers of the rainforest. C. Why rainforests are amazing and important. D. How to cut down rainforests. C Everybody knows that cats like to sleep. They spend more than half their lives sleeping and enjoy every minute of it. Other animals have different sleeping habits, however. Horses may not look like they are asleep. But they are! Horses spend about six hours sleeping every day and they do it standing up! Fish also sleep every day but they have a strange(奇怪的) habit. They don’t close their eyes when they are sleeping. When ducks sleep they keep one eye open and half of the brain awake. It helps them stay alert(警觉的) and watch out for dangerous animals. So what about humans(人类)? Well, most people sleep for about a third of their lives. The number of hours you sleep, however, has to do with your age. Most newborn(新生的) babies sleep a lot. They spend about 75% of their time sleeping every day! As you get older, you need less sleep. Children need about eleven hours and adults sleep for eight hours every night. So, yes, you spend many hours a year doing nothing-sleeping in bed! But you’re not just asleep-you’re not really doing nothing. Your body and your mind relax during this time, but a lot of things happen during sleep. Dreams are one way that the mind relaxes after a busy day. A person spends about 20% of every night dreaming. That means yo have about four or five dreams every night or about 1,600 dreams a year. 21. From the passage we know that a horse ________. A. sleeps with one eye open B. spends half of its life sleeping C. keeps standing up when sleeping D. doesn’t close its eyes when sleeping 22. According to the passage, how long do most new born babies sleep one day? A. For about 12 hours. B. For about 14 hours. C. For about 16 hours. D. For about 18 hours. 23. Which animal sleeps with one eye open and half of the brain awake? A. B. C. D. 24. What is the passage mainly about? A. Sleeping animals. B. Ways to sleep well. C. Something to know about sleep. D. How to keep healthy 25. Where does the passage probably come from? A. An art book. B. A science book. C. A sports book D. A history book D When you are a teenager, it seems that every time you say, “I want to...”, your parents answer, “No, you can’t.” Teenagers often think they should be allowed to make their own decisions, ____26____.
