拓展阅读(课内同源 + 课外同源)
Passage 1(课内同源:Secrets caught in time)
Imagine a dinosaur in an ancient forest. It is running around, looking for its next meal. With an angry cry, it opens its mouth and raises its beautiful feather-covered arms.
Wait — feathers on a dinosaur? For hundreds of years, people believed that dinosaurs looked like huge lizards. Just look at all those dinosaurs in books, films and TV shows! However, thanks to a piece of amber, scientists now know that this idea is wrong. In the amber from Southeast Asia, they found the tail of a dinosaur — with feathers.
These beautiful golden stones quietly keep pieces of the past. They can tell us whether dinosaurs had feathers, but that's not all. They also help us understand that life on earth has always changed. A piece of amber from Northern Europe, for example, holds a flower. This species no longer grows in this area. But the find proves that it did 35 million years ago.
Thanks to amber, more than 300 unknown species have been discovered. In a piece of amber from Africa, scientists found 13 ants. Research shows that they are a completely new species. Scientists used to believe that ants came from the northern half of the earth. The discovery of this African species has changed old beliefs about the history of ants.
As a window on the past, amber has been much studied. However, it's still not fully understood. We should put more effort into research. Then we can use this key to unlock more secrets of nature.

Passage 2(课外同源:A fish that came back from the past)
Many years ago, scientists believed that a big fish called the coelacanth (腔棘鱼) had died out about 65 million years ago. They could only see it in the fossil record. So imagine how surprised people were when a living coelacanth was found in the sea in 1938!
A young scientist named Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer saw the strange blue fish at a fish market in South Africa. She did not know what it was, so she wrote to other scientists. At first, nobody believed that it was a real coelacanth. But after careful study, scientists agreed that it was the same kind of fish that had lived long before the dinosaurs died out.
This discovery shows us something important: the story of life on earth is full of surprises. When we think a species has disappeared, it may still be hiding somewhere in the deep sea. Scientists have since found more coelacanths near Indonesia, more than 10,000 kilometres away from the first one.
"Nature never stops surprising us," says one scientist. "The more we look, the more we find out about the world we live in."
任务一:单项选择
1. What did scientists think about the coelacanth before 1938?
A. It lived in rivers. B. It looked like a lizard.
C. It was a kind of dinosaur. D. It had died out long before.
2. What does the story mainly tell us?
A. Fish markets are good places to do research. B. Nature can surprise us when we keep looking.
C. Fossils are more useful than living animals. D. All sea animals are very easy to find.
任务二:判断正误(T/F)
3. Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer was the first to see the living coelacanth. ( )

任务四范文:Last year, I read a book about nature and learnt something amazing. Scientists once believed that dinosaurs had no feathers. They thought dinosaurs looked like huge lizards. However, thanks to a piece of amber from Southeast Asia, they found the tail of a dinosaur with feathers. This finding shows that dinosaurs may have had feathers. Thanks to amber, scientists have also discovered more than 300 unknown species. To me, a piece of amber is like a window on the past. I have learnt that we can unlock the secrets of nature if we keep looking. From this discovery, I understand that nature never stops surprising us, and we should always be curious about the world.
