Unit 6 Mountains and rivers 承接 Unit 5 Films,围绕“山河”主题展开,通过 The lifeblood of cities 等语篇,学习原级比较与不定代词,并学习用英语描述山水、介绍河流与城市。

The Lifeblood of Cities
The River Thames flows through London. When you travel on it, the rich history of the city comes into view. The boats go past famous places of interest, such as the Tower of London and Big Ben.
Shanghai has its own “mother river” — the Huangpu River. It reminds many people of the River Thames. The two rivers have a lot in common. Both of them run through great cities and pass many tourist attractions, such as the Bund in Shanghai. When you travel on the rivers, you can sense a mix of the old and the new.
The Thames enters the North Sea, while the Huangpu River flows into the Yangtze River. Both of them help improve the environment and provide water, fish and food for people.
London and Shanghai are not alone. Almost every world-class city is built along the bank of a great river — Rome, Paris and Tokyo, to name just a few. Rivers nurture cities on their way. That is why people call them the “lifeblood of cities”.
(1) What can visitors see when they travel on the River Thames?
____________________________________________________________
(2) Which river flows into the Yangtze River?
____________________________________________________________
(3) Why are the River Thames and the Huangpu River said to have “a lot in common”? Give one reason.
____________________________________________________________
(4) What does the underlined word “nurture” in the last paragraph probably mean?
(5) What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Two rivers in the world. B. Rivers are the lifeblood of cities.
C. How to travel on a river. D. How to save water at home.
(1) The Yangtze River is about 6,300 kilometres long.(对划线部分提问)
________ ________ is the Yangtze River?
(2) The river flows through the city.(改为一般疑问句)
________ the river ________ through the city?
(3) This river is as long as that one.(改为否定句)
This river ________ ________ long as that one.
The Yangtze River is the longest river in China. It is over 6,300 kilometres long. For thousands of years, it has nurtured the Chinese people and given birth to a rich culture. That is why we call it our “mother river”.
But today, the Yangtze River is facing serious problems. Some factories pour waste water into it, and some people throw rubbish into the river. As a result, the water is getting dirty and some fish are dying.
Luckily, more and more people have realized the importance of protecting the river. The government has made laws to stop the pollution. Volunteers pick up rubbish along the bank every weekend. Scientists are also working hard to protect the fish.
“The Yangtze River is our mother river,” a volunteer says. “It is our duty to keep her clean. If we all make joint efforts, she will be beautiful forever.”

(1) river (2) scenery (3) attraction (4) metres (5) breathe (6) cruise (7) flows
(1) length (2) height (3) hiking (4) frozen (5) provide (6) tourists
(1) long(形容词)→ length(名词,长度),由 the ______ of 可知应填名词;(2) high → height(名词,高度);(3) go hiking 为固定搭配,意为“去徒步”;(4) freeze → frozen(形容词,冰冻的),修饰 river;(5) 主语 Rivers 为复数,谓语用原形 provide;(6) tour → tourist(名词,游客),many 后接复数 tourists。
(1) came into view (2) flows into (3) takes long walks (4) reminds; of (5) felt full of energy (6) Make sure
解析:(1) come into view 意为“进入视野”,由 climbed 可知用过去式 came;(2) flow into 意为“流入”,主语 The river 为第三人称单数,用 flows;(3) take long walks 意为“长距离散步”,主语 My grandpa 为第三人称单数,用 takes;(4) remind sb. of sth. 意为“使某人想起某事”,可用 reminds 或 reminded;(5) 由 After a good sleep 可知用过去式 felt full of energy;(6) 祈使句用动词原形开头,Make sure 意为“确保”,句首注意大写。
(1) have; in common (2) lifeblood; of (3) flows into (4) make joint efforts
解析:(1) have a lot in common 意为“有很多共同之处”;(2) the lifeblood of cities 意为“城市的生命线”;(3) 主语 The Huangpu River 为第三人称单数,flow into 用第三人称单数形式 flows;(4) make joint efforts 意为“共同努力”。
(1) A (2) A (3) A (4) B (5) C (6) B
解析:(1) not as … as 结构中,两个 as 之间用形容词原级 long,故选 A。(2) as … as 表示“和……
(1) longest (2) long (3) flows (4) millions (5) all (6) nothing
(1) They can see the rich history of the city (and famous places of interest such as the Tower of London and Big Ben).
(2) The Huangpu River (flows into the Yangtze River).
(3) Because both of them run through great cities and pass many tourist attractions (and both help improve the environment and provide water and food).
(4) A (5) B
(4) nurture 在第 4 段“Rivers nurture cities on their way”,结合河流对城市的滋养作用可知意为“滋养”,选 A。
(1) How long (2) Does; flow (3) isn’t as / so
解析:(1) 对“about 6,300 kilometres”这一长度提问用 How long。 (3) as … as 的否定形式为 not as / so … as,主语 This river 为单数,故用 isn’t as / so long as。
(1) Over 6,300 kilometres (long). (2) waste water (3) rubbish (4) has made laws to stop the pollution (5) pick up rubbish along the bank
We can save water in our daily life. / We can stop throwing rubbish into rivers. / We can tell our friends and family to protect rivers.(答出两条、意思合理、语法基本正确即可。)
My favourite river is the Huangpu River. It is in Shanghai, my hometown. The river is not as long as the Yangtze River, but it is very beautiful. It flows through the city and passes the Bund.
