I’m a boy who likes travelling very much. Before I go on vacation, I always plan my trip very carefully. I usually look up all the necessary information on my own and collect it ahead of time.
To begin with, I look up possible places of interest and compare them carefully to see which one satisfies my needs best. Second, I check the cost of travelling to that place.
If I want to go by plane, I will compare the prices of the different airlines in order to get the cheapest tickets. If I plan to travel by train, I will look into the special train ticket office.
I travel by bus least because of the high risk of travel accidents on the highway. Third, as for hotels, I used to choose to stay in cheap hotels, but now I think sleeping comfortably is the most important. At last, it’s better to spend less on meals and sightseeing. If I plan carefully, I can usually have a good time at a proper price.

AI Tour Guides: A New Way to Explore the World
With the development of technology, AI tour guides have become more and more popular. Unlike traditional tour guides, AI tour guides are available 24 hours a day and can provide information in multiple languages.
An AI tour guide works through a mobile app or a website. When you plan to visit a place, you can download the app and enter your destination. The AI guide will give you detailed information about the attraction, such as its history, opening hours and ticket prices. It can also make a travel plan for you based on your interests and time.
One of the best things about AI tour guides is that they can answer your questions at any time. If you want to know about the best restaurants near the attraction or how to get there by public transport, the AI guide will give you quick and accurate answers. The Power of Memory
Music can make us feel many different things. Some songs make us feel happy, while others make us feel sad or calm. Music can also remind us of special times in our lives. For example, we might remember songs that played on our birthdays. The songs become special because they’re connected to our feelings and memories.
But music doesn’t just help us remember. Scientists think it might also change how we remember things. In a study, researchers asked people to read some short stories. These stories were not happy or sad—they were just normal. The next day, the people listened to happy music, sad music, or no music while thinking about the stories again. While this happened, a machine called an MRI was used to see how their brains worked.
On the third day, the people were asked to remember the same stories again, but without any music. The scientists wanted to know if the music had changed what people remembered. And it did. When people listened to happy music, they remembered the stories in a happier way. When they listened to sad music, they remembered the stories as sadder ones. Even without music, their memories stayed changed.
Music made certain parts of the brain more active. These parts help us feel emotions and remember things. This means music doesn’t just help us remember—it changes the memory itself.

A.The music. B.The brain. C.The MRI. D.The story.
39.On the third day of the study, what were the people asked to do?
A.Listen to more music. B.Remember the stories without music.
C.Read new stories. D.Describe their feelings.
40.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this text?
A.To show why some music is fun.
B.To tell how music helps with memories.

It is a situation where many people wrongly remember something. This name started in 2009 when people remembered that Nelson Mandela died in the 1980s. But Mandela got out of prison in 1990 and died in 2013. Then an American called it the Mandela Effect.
There are many examples. In 2022 in China, on the Internet, lots of people talked about the sentence by Mencius (孟子): “Thus when Heaven is about to confer a great office on any man (故天将降大任于斯/是人也).”. Most people remembered it was “si (斯)”. Later, People’s Education Press (人教社) ended the talk by saying that all its textbooks say “shi (是)”.
Experts have looked into the reasons for this effect. Our minds may try to fill in missing gaps in the memory. It is like inventing a story. However, this is not lying, but remembering things that never happened.
The Internet may be another reason for it as the news we read might not be true from the beginning. A study showed that false news can go around faster and reach more people than the truth. So, the Internet might be a more important reason for this effect.

Lin Hanming is an expert in soybean (大豆) planting. He is from Hong Kong and he has been working with scientists from other parts of China since 1998.

Thankfully, in 2016, Lin and his team developed three kinds of soybeans. They are all able to grow well in Gansu’s soil. Then Lin and Zhang encouraged local farmers to plant the new soybeans.

In 2010, he met Zhang Guohong at a national soybean meeting. Zhang Guohong is an agricultural (农业的) expert from Gansu. Though they come from different places, they set a common goal to use their knowledge to develop Gansu’s agriculture and improve local people’s lives.
According to Zhang Guohong, Gansu’s weather conditions are not good. The air is dry and the rainfall is too little for plants to grow. Farmers’ lives and production depend on the weather largely. This is also a cause of the area’s poverty (贫穷).
Soybeans are great plants, because they not only bring wealth to farmers, but are also good for the soil. However, no soybean varieties could stand the bad weather conditions in Gansu. Thankfully, in 2016, Lin and his team developed three kinds of soybeans. They are all able to grow well in Gansu’s soil. Then Lin and Zhang encouraged local farmers to plant the new soybeans. Lin also talked with Hong Kong’s food businesses and some of them promised to buy farmers’ new soybeans. Local farmers are so happy because their lives have improved because of Lin.
Doing agricultural research is no easy job. But Lin sees difficulties as a chance to solve problems and create something better. In the future, he hopes to add more of his power to the development of the country’s agriculture.

Some AI guides even have voice recognition function, so you can talk to them directly.
AI tour guides are also helpful for people with special needs. For example, people with visual impairments can listen to the introduction of the attraction, and people with hearing impairments can read the text. This makes travel more inclusive for everyone.
However, AI tour guides can’t replace real tour guides completely. Real tour guides can share interesting stories and personal experiences, which AI guides can’t do. But AI tour guides are a great supplement to real travel. They can help you save time and make your trip more convenient.

A.Listen to more music. B.Remember the stories without music.
C.Read new stories. D.Describe their feelings.
40.What is the writer’s purpose in writing this text?
A.To show why some music is fun.
B.To tell how music helps with memories.
C.To teach how to use brain machines.
D.To express people should read more stories.

My Inspiring Role Model
My inspiring role model is Helen Keller.
She lost her sight and hearing when she was a baby, but she never gave up. With the help of her teacher, she learned to read, write and speak. She even went to college and became a famous writer and speaker. Helen had a strong spirit. She overcame many difficulties that most people couldn’t imagine.
Her story tells me that no matter how hard life is, we should keep going and never lose hope. Now, when I meet difficulties in study, I think of Helen and find the courage to keep trying. I hope I can be as brave as her and achieve my dreams one day.
