Our school has a special project called sounds over school. We take part in this interesting activity every month to record different sounds around our school. We often record the sound of morning reading in the classroom, the soft wind in the school trees, and the happy sound of students playing basketball on the playground. After collecting OB sounds, we work together to make a special sound show for all the teachers and students in our school. Last month, we carefully recorded the sound of rain on the classroom windows. IT was soft and very relaxing. Our teacher told us that such gentle sounds could help us relax when we are stress from heavy study. This project is really fun and means a lot. IT teaches us to slow down and enjoy the simple beauty in our daily school life. I love taking part in IT, and I hope more students will join us in the future. Hello everyone. How to Write a Secret Message?Do you want to write a message that can only be read by a specific (特定的) person? It is a secret message for that person only. Other people can’t see the message on the paper. Only that person knows how to make the message appear. Here’s an experiment on how to write such a message.
You’ll need:
- half a lemon - a cup
- four spoons of water - a cotton swab (棉签)
- a piece of white paper - a light bulb
What to do:
1. Squeeze (挤压) some lemon juice into the water. Mix the water and juice.
2. Put the cotton swab into the mixture and make it wet. Use the wet cotton swab to write some words on the white paper.
3. Let the paper dry. Show it to someone and ask if he or she can see the words on the paper.
4. Hold the paper close to a light bulb to heat it. Ask him or her again.
Let me explain it!
Lemon juice has chemicals that have carbon (碳). The chemicals break down easily when they are heated. And the carbon makes them show a dark colour.
16.If you want to do this experiment, which of the following is NOT needed?
A.Lemon. B.Water. C.Paper. D.Milk.
17.What is the correct order of the experiment according to the material?
a. Use a light bulb to heat the paper.
b. Put a cotton swab into the mixture.
c. Mix lemon juice and water.
d. Write some words on a piece of white paper with the wet cotton swab.
e. Dry the paper.
A.a‑d‑c‑b‑e B.c‑b‑a‑e‑d
C.c‑b‑d‑e‑a D.a‑e‑b‑c‑d
18.Where is the material probably taken from?
A.A science magazine. B.A cookbook.
C.A storybook. D.A guidebook.
【答案】16.D 17.C 18.A

China stops food delivery (递送) wars
China’s government is stepping in to control fierce (激烈的) competition between three big food delivery companies: JD.com, Meituan and Ele.me. These companies are fighting for more customers by offering huge discounts and special benefits, causing problems in the market.
The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), China’s top market regulator, recently held a meeting with these companies. They warned them to follow laws about fair competition, online business, and food safety. The government wants to protect customers, restaurants, and delivery workers.
The competition started in February 2025 when JD.com entered the food delivery market. To attract workers, JD promised full-time riders social insurance and housing funds. Currently, Meituan and Ele. me control 98% of the market together. To fight back, Meituan said it would also pay social insurance for riders, while Ele.me launched a “Billion-Yuan Subsidy” program with big discounts.
The companies even copied each other’s services. Meituan created a new “Flash Sale” platform, and Alibaba’s Ele. me expanded its one-hour delivery service nationwide. Sometimes, the competition turned ugly. JD.com accused (控告) Meituan of forcing riders to reject JD’s orders, making some riders lose 16-25% of their income. Meituan denied (否认) this.
China’s tech companies often use price wars and subsidies (补贴) to beat competitors. The government has fined big companies like Alibaba and Meituan in recent years to keep the market fair. Experts say heavy discounts work when a market is growing, but now they might harm the industry. Customers might only care about low prices, and restaurants could lower food quality to save money.
A government department focused on social issues also joined the meeting, showing concern for over 10 million delivery riders. “Price wars hurt everyone,” said Zhang Yi, a market analyst. “Companies should focus on better food and service instead of burning money.”
19.Why did China’s government hold a meeting with JD.com, Meituan, and Ele.me?
A.To help them make more money.
B.To stop unfair competition in food delivery.
C.To create new delivery services.
D.To increase food prices.
20.The phrase “price wars” in the article most likely means ________.
A.governments setting price limits
B.companies fighting by lowering prices
C.restaurants selling expensive food
D.customers refusing to pay high prices
21.What does Zhang Yi, the market analyst, think about price wars?
A.They are necessary for market growth.
B.They benefit both companies and customers.
C.They harm the industry in the long term.
D.They should be supported by the government
22.What is the main purpose of the article?
A.To explain how food delivery companies make money.
B.To compare the working conditions of delivery riders.
C.To advertise new services from JD, Meituan and Ele.me.
D.To describe the government’s action against unhealthy competition in food delivery.
【答案】19.B 20.B 21.C 22.D

【详解】19.第一段中“China’s government is stepping in to control fierce (激烈的) competition between three big food delivery companies”以及第二段中“They warned them to follow laws about fair competition, online business, and food safety.”直接说明,政府召开会议的目的是制止外卖行业的不公平竞争。
20.结合第一段中“offering huge discounts and special benefits”提到企业大打折扣让利抢客户、第三段中“launched a ‘Billion-Yuan Subsidy’ program with big discounts”以及“China’s tech companies often use price wars and subsidies (补贴) to beat competitors”,可知price wars指企业通过降价补贴来互相竞争。
21.最后一段张毅的观点“Price wars hurt everyone”以及“Companies should focus on better food and service instead of burning money.”直接说明,他认为价格战会损害行业。
22.通读全文并结合文章标题“China stops food delivery (递送) wars”以及第一段“China’s government is stepping in to control fierce (激烈的) competition between three big food delivery companies: JD.com, Meituan and Ele.me. These companies are fighting for more customers by offering huge discounts and special benefits, causing problems in the market.”可知,文章的主要目的是描述政府针对外卖行业不健康竞争采取的行动。
C
Climate change, including extreme heat and frequent heat waves, is already known to put pressure on us in many ways—threatening ecosystems, reducing food production, and harming public health. Now, new research points to a possibly lifelong setback (障碍) for children who are suffering from extreme heat.
In the first few years of life, children develop key physical, cognitive (认知的) and social skills that can shape (塑造) the rest of their lives. Meeting these basic developmental milestones (里程碑) at the early time—including recognizing letters (字母) or words and playing independently—can influence later life achievements, from mental health to economic success. “Delays in developing these skills set kids down a developmental path that can affect not just personal well-being, but society as a whole,” says Cuarta, a researcher at New York University.
To see if there are connections between extreme heat and the development of these skills, Cuarta and his team studied data from 19,600 children surveyed by UNICEF in six countries. The team used the Early Childhood Development Index, which follows milestones in four areas: reading and number-related skills (cognitive skills), social-emotional development (social skills), ways of learning (learning skills) and physical development (physical skills). The Index tested children’s ability to name letters, read simple words and recognize the numbers 1 through 10, among other skills. In Cuarta’s study, researchers found that compared to children living in areas with cooler conditions, children who experienced higher temperatures above 30℃ were less likely to meet basic developmental milestones, particularly for reading and number-related skills.
Learning loss may happen because heat’s effects on the brain can produce slower reaction times and an inability to focus. Heat can mess with (扰乱) children’s sleep, leading to cognitive disorder and learning difficulties in early childhood. With temperature rising globally, these delays could continue through school years and beyond, widening gaps in education and opportunity.
“There is an urgent need to find out the exact ways in which heat is affecting development,” suggests Cuarta. “Gaining a better understanding of who is being affected and how it affects them will allow us to develop adaptation strategies (适应策略) to help them in the future.”
23.How does the author present the pressure caused by climate change?
A.By quoting an expert. B.By raising a suggestion.
C.By giving examples. D.By making comparisons.
24.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The influence of painful childhood. B.The importance of early development.
C.The science behind the heat’s damage. D.The explanation of cognitive skills.
25.What can be inferred from Cuarta’s study?
A.Heat stress can promote kids’ sleep quality.
B.Heat’s effects were greater on mental health.
C.Temperature can determine kids’ personality.
D.Extreme heat may harm reading and number-related skills.
26.What is Cuarta’s suggestion about?
A.The addition of control groups. B.The inclusion of more volunteers.
C.Possible direction of future studies. D.Wide promotion of the findings.
【答案】23.C 24.B 25.D 26.C
【导语】本文介绍了气候变化带来的极端高温会对儿童的早期发展造成终身的不良影响,呼吁进一步探明高温影响儿童发展的具体机制,以此制定适配的应对策略。

24.第二段“children develop key physical, cognitive and social skills that can shape the rest of their lives....”,主要阐述儿童早年形成的身体、认知、社交等关键技能会塑造其一生,按时达成早期发展里程碑会影响后续人生的诸多成就,核心是说明早期发展的重要性。
25.第三段“children who experienced higher temperatures above 30℃ were less likely to meet basic developmental milestones, particularly for reading and number-related skills.”,介绍经历30℃以上高温的儿童比生活在凉爽环境中的儿童更难达成基础发展里程碑,在阅读和数字相关技能方面表现尤为突出,可推断出极端高温可能损害儿童的阅读和数字相关技能。
26.最后一段“…Gaining a better understanding of who is being affected and how it affects them will allow us to develop adaptation strategies to help them in the future.”,Cuarta提出亟需探明高温影响儿童发展的具体路径,明确受影响群体和影响机制后开发适配的应对策略,这属于未来研究的可行方向。

Is there a sport more popular than frisbee? We don’t think so!
The activity has been trending on lifestyle-sharing platforms such as Weibo and Douyin. According to research by 36kr, it now surpasses skateboarding, cycling and other sports as one of the most popular sports among young people-about 60 percent of people surveyed said they want to make new friends playing the game.
In the early 20th century, William Frisbie’s pies were very popular with American Yale University students. They not only enjoyed eating the pie, but also throwing the empty tin pie plate around. This was the first version of a flying disc game. It developed and became popular. Flying discs are known throughout most of the world by registered trademarked name “Frisbee”.
Frisbee is a very social game. Men and women can play the sport together and there is no body contact. For those who want to compete, they can try the frisbee-using-sport called “ultimate”. The rules are very easy. The players’ main goal is simply to catch the frisbee. The thrower is not allowed to move after throwing the frisbee out, while others with no frisbee in their hands can move as they want. “For example, when you hold the frisbee, you cannot move. Instead, you pivot (绕轴转) one foot until the disc is released,” said Qu Xinchen. Unlike many team games, “ultimate” encourages honesty and fair play, with no judges on the court.
The increasing popularity of the activity has drawn the attention of the government. On July 7, 2022, the General Administration of Sport of China announced the first Chinese Frisbee League (联赛). Now, this sport can be seen in many cities around the country and has become a national fitness activity.
27.What does the underlined word “judges” mean in this passage?
A.People who decide the winner. B.People who cheer for the players.
C.People who clean up the ground. D.People who remind players of time.
28.From the passage, we can know ________
A.frisbee has a history of about two hundred years
B.frisbee was invented by British university students
C.players can move around anytime during the game
D.players aren’t allowed to hit each other in the game
29.What’s the writing purpose of the passage?
A.To teach readers how to play a sport. B.To make an introduction of a popular sport.
C.To discover the fun secrets of a sport. D.To show readers the history of a popular sport.
30.The following sentence would best be placed at the end of ________.
In another game called “disc golf”, players try to hit faraway objects with a disc.
A.Paragraph 2 B.Paragraph 3 C.Paragraph 4 D.Paragraph 5
【答案】27.A 28.D 29.B 30.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍飞盘这项热门运动,讲述它的流行现状、起源历史、比赛特点,以及这项运动在国内得到官方认可,成为全民健身项目。
【详解】27.根据文章第四段“Unlike many team games, ‘ultimate’ encourages honesty and fair play, with no judges on the court.”可推知该运动依靠诚实和公平竞争,不需要场上裁判裁决,因此“judges”意为决定胜负的人。
28.根据文章第四段“Men and women can play the sport together and there is no body contact.”可知飞盘运动没有身体接触,意味着玩家不允许在比赛中互相撞击。
29.根据文章第一段“Is there a sport more popular than frisbee? We don’t think so!”及全文可知,作者写作目的是介绍一项受欢迎的运动。

Welcome to Youth Voice, a program about how young people grow in today’s society. I’m your host. Today, we are glad to have Professor Sarah Mitchell with us. She is an expert on youth development.
◆ What quality do you think teenagers need most in today’s society?
I’d say resilience (适应力). For example, they experience peer pressure, endless comparison driven by social media, and an uncertain future. They need the ability to bounce back (恢复) quickly when life gets hard. Resilience isn’t about never falling down; it’s about getting back up.
◆ How is this quality reflected (体现) in real life?
For example, someone loses a competition, but learns from it and tries again. Some people are left out by their friend group, but make an effort to build new, healthy relationships. Resilience shows up when you choose to try again while your feelings tell you to give up.
◆
Resilience is built through challenges. Start by taking some small risks. Take part in a competition you’ve never tried before. Start a conversation with someone outside your usual circle. Each time you take a small step forward, you build resilience.
◆ What can parents and schools do to provide support for teenagers?
Don’t rush to help! If adults hurry to fix every problem, teenagers will never develop the ability to deal with difficulties themselves. Stay by their side, but don’t do everything for them.
A.How can teenagers develop this quality?
B.Today’s teenagers face many challenges.
C.You can see it in small, everyday choices.
D.Instead, let them solve problems on their own.
E.What happens when teenagers don’t have resilience?
