Last summer, I took a part-time job at a local community library. As a senior one student, I hoped to make better use of my long holiday and gain some life experience. I thought it would be an easy and quiet job, but it turned out to be a special and unforgettable journey.
My daily work included sorting out books, helping readers borrow and return books, and keeping the reading room tidy. At first, I was not familiar with the book classification rules and often made mistakes. A warm-hearted librarian named Mrs. Li patiently taught me every detail. She told me that library work was simple but required great care and responsibility.
What impressed me most was a little girl who came to the library every weekend. She was seven years old and loved reading picture books. One day, I noticed her sitting in the corner quietly, with tears in her eyes. I walked up to ask her what was wrong. She said she had lost her favorite storybook and dared not tell her parents.
I comforted her and helped her look for the book carefully. After nearly half an hour, we finally found it under a big shelf. The girl smiled happily and thanked me repeatedly. From then on, she often shared her interesting reading stories with me when she came to the library.
This part-time job did not bring me much money, but it taught me valuable lessons. It made me understand that every ordinary job deserves respect, and small kindnesses can bring great warmth to others. It also helped me become more patient and careful in both study and life.

Giving students a chance to write about their passions can help them engage not only in writing but also in what they’re learning. Research suggests when given the opportunity to write more about subjects that interest them, students tend to spend more time in the process.
To spend their writing time on a subject that fuels their interests can also help students build important skills they need in their education. Some research points out a deep knowledge of a subject is essential before students can analyze, evaluate or synthesize. A student passionate about a topic likely knows a great deal about the subject, and that is a key first step before making connections with and critically analyzing a subject, and applying those skills to other subjects, as well.
Curriculum designers want to look at using journal writing as one method of involving students in topics they care about or have a passion to explore. A 2006 paper found journal assignments helped students make sense of what they were learning, rather than just memorize a topic, which promoted more critical thinking skills.
Poetry festivals, held by the Sharon Public Schools in Massachusetts, or spoken word assignments, used by teachers at schools including the Academy of American Studies in New York City, are other ways educators can help channel students and their passions into writing.
Allowing students to choose their writing topics may not only help bring about more assignments full of passion, but also spark the development of key learning skills.
29. What makes students spend more time writing?
A. The interest. B. The knowledge. C. The writing skill. D. The analysis.
30. Why do curriculum designers use journal assignments?
A. To help students do their homework. B. To help students understand what they are learning.
C. To help students memorize a topic. D. To help students read the journals
31. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Giving students a chance to learn special subjects.
B. Writing subjects students love fuels learning.
C. Journal writing help develop students’ speaking skill.
D. Allowing students to choose their own pace of study.
32. In which column of a newspaper does the text most probably appear?
A. Science. B. Geography. C. Health. D. Education.

Nowadays, many teenagers spend most of their free time on short videos or online games. Few of them take time to feel the beauty of traditional Chinese culture. However, a special Mid-Autumn fair in Zhouning, Fujian, shows us a great way to connect young people with our old culture.
The fair opened on Sept 25 at Carp Brook Scenic Area. It mixes poetry, music and light shows together. The event centers on poetry, wine and traditional performances. Actors dress up as Li Bai and Su Shi, two famous ancient poets, and talk and play games with visitors.
There are many fun activities for young visitors. Students can join poetry recitation, pitch-pot and lantern riddles. If they collect six stamps on a special card, they can get nice Mid-Autumn gifts. Besides, visitors can enjoy light shows and rod-puppet plays. They can also try bottle painting or write calligraphy on bookmarks. These hands-on experiences make culture no longer just words in textbooks.
The fair lasts until Sept 27. It uses the local 800-year-old fish-protection culture and beautiful natural sights to build a wonderful night trip. Such cultural fairs are really meaningful for teenagers. They help us learn history and poems in lively ways, not only from books. When young people take part in these activities, they will fall in love with traditional culture and pass it on.
But we still need more such activities. Schools and cities should create more opportunities for students to experience traditional culture. Culture is not far away. It can be fun, interactive and full of poetic light.
33.What can we infer about the activities at the fair?
A. Visitors can watch light shows only after they recite poems.
B. Visitors can get gifts after collecting six stamps.
C. Visitors can take part in all activities without any tickets.
D. Visitors can meet the real Li Bai and Su Shi there.
34.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The fair is held to protect the local fish in the river.
B. Visitors can watch rod-puppet shows and get free mooncakes there.
C. The fair will last for more than one week.
D. Visitors can try bottle painting and write calligraphy on bookmarks.
35.Why does the writer think the fair is helpful to teenagers?
A. It stops teenagers from playing online games completely.
B. It helps them learn traditional culture in interesting ways.
C. It teaches them how to make different kinds of lanterns.
D. It gives students chances to win many school prizes.
36.What is the main idea of the text?
A. To describe old local fish-protection culture
B. To introduce ancient poets’ life stories
