He once wrote, “All the people in this world grow flowers, but I will plant bamboo only.” This shows his deep love for bamboo.
Zheng created many bamboo paintings. One of them is the scroll(卷轴)titled “Bamboo and Stone”. In the painting scroll, thin but strong bamboo grows on a cliff(悬崖), standing firmly against strong winds from all directions. The different darkness of the ink and the crossed lines make the bamboo look real. A poem beside it praises the firm and brave “willpower” of bamboo.
The different shapes of bamboo in Zheng’s paintings stand for the good qualities of human beings. They also show what kind of person Zheng was — he didn’t give in and always challenged the traditional ideas.

“A steed raising red dust won the fair mistress’ smiles. How many steeds bringing her fruit died on the run!(一骑红尘妃子笑,无人知是荔枝来)” is a famous Tang Dynasty poem.
Ma Boyong got the idea from this poem and wrote The Lychee in Chang’an, a book about an exciting story from ancient China. During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong wanted to please his Consort Yang by transporting(运输)fresh lychees from Lingnan(now Guangdong). However, this simple wish was hard to achieve: lychees would go bad in three days, as the journey was over 2,500 kilometers across mountains and rivers.
The main character, Li Shande, was asked to send the fruit before Consort Yang’s birthday. Though it was difficult, Li refused to give up. “Even if I fail,” he said, “I must know how far I fall short of the goal.”
Li used his wisdom and courage(勇气)to deal with this challenge. He used scientific ways — testing routes, using ice, and inventing a color-coded tracking system(颜色编码追踪系统)to check the fruit’s freshness. After repeated trials(试验), he finished the job of sending lychees in nearly 11 days.
Yet his success came at a price. Li saw how hard common people worked to meet the emperor’s orders. He bravely spoke out against this unfairness.
Though set in the Tang Dynasty, the novel mirrors modern life. Li faced many problems, like not having enough money for a house and dealing with unfair work. These are the same problems young people have today. His story teaches us: real growth comes not just from success, but from never giving up no matter how hard life is.

Samdrub Norbu, a 23-year-old young man, is the founder of Yangchak Art. He was born in a common family in Xizang. He was interested in Xizang traditional music at a very young age. After he learned more about the local guitar, he was crazy about playing it. The guitar became one of his best friends in life and he almost went everywhere with his guitar.
While he studied in college three years ago, he opened a shop in his home county selling Xizang musical instruments. However, few knew or played them; the business failed and he lost about 500,000 yuan, which had a terrible influence on him and his family. “Once I wondered what to do with the difficulties. He made up his mind to start the same business after he left college. He realized how strong his wish for making a living was while the dream of protecting the local guitar still stayed in his heart. And he should never give it up.
Up to now, he has been running a guitar business for more than half a year. With the support of the local government, his business is going well this time. He also has a workshop to make guitars on his own and plans to set up an art school.
“Xizang music is something that can take sadness away from us. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I’m so proud to have the chance to introduce it to the world. I really hope more people will come and enjoy Xizang’s special culture themselves.” Samdrub Norbu smiled.

根据前文 “He folded paper planes again and again, wondering which shapes could”可知,此处表达他想知道哪种形状能真正帮助纸飞机飞得更远。
根据前文 “He even finished The Three-Body Problem in second grade. By third grade, he had already tried to build rockets. One evening, he told his father, ‘I need to learn calculus.’”

根据后文“stranger even made some metal parts for him for free.”
根据后文“his first test turned out a failure, Che was not upset at all.”

Luan was 39 years old and had been delivering things for nine years. In 2021, Luan started preparing for the marathon after learning about the signup process. He needed to gather 100,000 points through activities like running, swimming, walking and biking by the end of the year.
After getting all points, Luan got picked. And then, he trained for about two hours every day. He also combined(结合)his work with his training. He often carried heavy things like water and rice to build up his strength and tried to avoid using lifts. Just over a month before the Paris Olympics, Luan continued to train hard, running 300 to 400 kilometers each month. Luan’s hard work paid off in the end.

Zheng Xie, also known as Zheng Banqiao, was one of the most famous painters in ancient China. He lived during the Qing Dynasty and was known for his skill at painting bamboo.
Zheng passed the imperial competitive examination(科举考试)successfully. Later, he worked as a
government official for years and won a lot of people’s respect. But he didn’t want to follow the bad ways of the official circle, so he left his job. Then he made a living by selling his paintings.
At that time, what Zheng did was hard for people to understand, and they even looked down on(轻视)him. But he kept his love by staying away from official life. He was just like the bamboo in his paintings, growing strongly on the mountain cliff.
Zheng was called “one of the greatest people in China in the past three hundred years”. His spirit and life story will continue to be passed down with his great paintings and poems, influencing all Chinese people.

A. The techniques Zheng used to paint bamboo. B. The meaning of bamboo in Zheng’s paintings.

A. He went to the mountain to plant bamboo. B. He made a living by selling his paintings.

Luckily, I got over the difficulties,” he said, “In those darkest days of my life, I asked myself again and again if I should go on.”
The answer was “YES”. Many of his classmates preferred to have a fixed and well-paid job after graduation, but Samdrub Norbu thought differently about his near future. “Xizang music is something that can take sadness away from us. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I’m so proud to have the chance to introduce it to the world. I really hope more people will come and enjoy Xizang’s special culture themselves.” Samdrub Norbu smiled.
