Here are some odd events scheduled for 2026. Air Guitar World Championships (August 26–29, 2026) For 30 years, people have traveled from every continent to Oulu, Finland, to compete in the Air Guitar World Championships — performing on an instrument that doesn’t exist. The motto: “Make Air, Not War”. The philosophy: If everyone grabbed their air guitar and played, nobody could hold a gun, and the world would be a better place. National Storytelling Festival, Jonesborough, Tennessee (October 2–4, 2026) Jonesborough is Tennessee’s oldest town and the self-proclaimed “Storytelling Capital of the World.” The International Storytelling Center is headquartered here, and each October it hosts the National Storytelling Festival. Five big-top tents rise over the historic downtown, drawing more than 10,000 people to hear over 35 oral storytellers from around the world. Trailing of the Sheep Festival, Ketchum, Idaho (October 7–11, 2026) In Idaho’s Wood River Valley, a band of 1,200 sheep pours down Main Street in Ketchum each October in this five-day celebration — a river of wool. Thousands of people line the route to watch. The festival honors the 150-year-old annual tradition of moving sheep from high mountain summer pastures to winter grazing grounds in the south. The event includes a Sheep Folklife Fair, lamb culinary offerings, and National Qualifying Sheepdog Trials. Dickens on the Strand, Galveston, Texas (December 4–6, 2026) Galveston holds Victorian-era buildings constructed during the lifetime of Charles Dickens, the British author of A Christmas Carol. For one December weekend, the annual Dickens on the Strand transforms Galveston’s streets into Victorian London. No contemporary Christmas songs are allowed. Gas lamps line the route while stop signs hide beneath Dickens’s life story panels, and parking meters disappear under bags. 21. What is the main goal of the Air Guitar World Championships? A. To advocate peace. B. To train guitar players. C. To sell musical instruments. D. To mark Finland’s anniversary. 22. What does the National Storytelling Festival feature? A. International writing workshops. B. Five large circuses. C. Ancient building tours. D. Live oral tales. 23. In which festival can visitors find the effort to hide modern elements? A. Dickens on the Strand. B. National Storytelling Festival. C. Trailing of the Sheep Festival. D. Air Guitar World Championships. B “I am not crazy,” says Dr. William Farber, shortly after performing acupuncture(针灸) on a rabbit. “I am ahead of my time.” If he seems a little defensive, it might be because even some of his coworkers occasionally laugh at his unusual methods. But Farber is certain he’ll have the last laugh. He’s one of a small but growing number of American veterinarians(兽医)now practicing “holistic” medicine-combining traditional Western treatments with acupuncture, chiropractic(按摩疗法)and herbal medicine. Farber, a graduate of Colorado State University, started out as a more conventional veterinarian. He became interested in alternative treatments 20 years ago when he suffered from terrible back pain. He tried muscle-relaxing drugs but found little relief. Then he tried acupuncture, an ancient Chinese practice, and was amazed that he improved after two or three treatments. What worked on a veterinarian seemed likely to work on his patients. So, after studying the techniques for a couple of years, he began offering them to pets. Leigh Tindale’s dog Charlie had a serious heart condition. After Charlie had a heart attack, Tindale says, she was prepared to put him to sleep, but Farber’s treatments eased her dog’s suffering so much that she was able to keep him alive for an additional five months. And Priscilla Dewing reports that her horse, Nappy, “moves more easily and rides more comfortably” after a chiropractic adjustment. Farber is certain that the holistic approach will grow more popular with time, and if the past is any indication, he may be right: Since 1982, membership in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association has grown from 30 to over 700. “Sometimes it surprises me that it works so well,” he says. “I will do anything to help an animal. That’s my job.” 24. What do some of Farber’s coworkers think of him? A. He’s odd. B. He’s strict. C. He’s brave. D. He’s rude. 25. Why did Farber decide to try acupuncture on pets? A. He was trained in it at university. B. He was inspired by another veterinarian. C. He benefited from it as a patient. D. He wanted to save money for pet owners. 26. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. Steps of a chiropractic treatment. B. The complexity of veterinarians ’ work. C. Examples of rare animal diseases. D. The effectiveness of holistic medicine. 27. Why does the author mention the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association? A. To prove Farber’s point. B. To emphasize its importance. C. To praise veterinarians. D. To advocate animal protection. C When you were trying to figure out what to buy for the environmentalist on your holiday list, fur probably didn’t cross your mind. But some ecologists and fashion enthusiasts are trying to bring back the market for fur made from nutria(海狸鼠). Unusual fashion shows in New Orleans and Brooklyn have showcased nutria fur made into clothes in different styles. “It sounds crazy to talk about guilt-free fur—unless you understand that the nutria are destroying vast wetlands every year,” says Cree McCree, project director of Righteous Fur. Scientists in Louisiana were so concerned that they decided to pay hunters $5 a tail. Some of the fur ends up in the fashion shows like the one in Brooklyn last month. Nutria were brought there from Argentina by fur farmers and let go into the wild. “The ecosystem down there can't handle this non-native species. It's destroying the environment. It's them or us,” says Michael Massimi, an expert in this field. The fur trade kept nutria in check for decades, but when the market for nutria collapsed in the late 1980s, the cat-sized animals multiplied like crazy. Biologist Edmond Mouton runs the nutria control program for Louisiana. He says it’s not easy to convince people that nutria fur is green, but he has no doubt about it. Hunters bring in more than 300, 000 nutria tails a year, so part of Mouton's job these days is trying to promote fur. Then there’s Righteous Fur and its unusual fashions. Model Paige Morgan says, “To give people a guilt-free option that they can wear without someone throwing paint on them—I think that’s going to be a massive thing, at least here in New York.” Designer Jennifer Anderson admits it took her a while to come around to the opinion that using nutria fur for her creations is morally acceptable. She’s trying to come up with a label to attach to nutria fashions to show it is eco-friendly. 28. What is the purpose of the fashion shows in New Orleans and Brooklyn? A. To promote guilt-free fur. B. To expand the fashion market. C. To introduce a new brand. D. To celebrate a winter holiday. 29. Why are scientists concerned about nutria? A. Nutria damage the ecosystem seriously. B. Nutria are an endangered species. C. Nutria hurt local cat-sized animals. D. Nutria are illegally hunted. 30. What does the underlined word "collapsed" in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Boomed. B. Became mature. C. Remained stable. D. Crashed. 31. What can we infer about wearing fur in New York according to Morgan? A. It ’s formal . B. It ’s risky. C. It ’s harmful . D. It ’s traditional. D From live speech translation in video calls to auto-dubbing on TikTok, real-time translation powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is now embedded (融入) in everyday life. All this raises a vital question. If machines can do this faster and more accurately than humans, is investing years in learning another language still worth it? Our recent study examined cognitive (认知的) performance in 94 adults aged 18 to 83, using both visuospatial and auditory tasks across working memory, attention and inhibition. Put simply, we looked at how people process and respond to information they see or mentally map out in space(visuospatial) and information they hear (auditory). Examples include remembering sounds, focusing on visual patterns, or ignoring distractions. Our study measured multilingualism (多语言) as a range, not a category. This allowed us to capture diverse language backgrounds and experiences. Multilingual participants spoke a range of languages with varying levels of proficiency and daily use, reflecting the linguistic diversity common within multicultural communities. Across most tasks, multilinguals and monolinguals performed similarly. However, one pattern was striking. Individuals with richer, more diverse multilingual experience showed markedly better performance in visuospatial working memory. These effects were most pronounced in older people. This suggests that multilingual experience doesn’t broadly enhance cognition, like some headlines claim. Instead, it may help preserve specific functions over time. Separate population-level research has also linked multilingualism to later onset of Alzheimer’s disease and better overall ageing outcomes, though the mechanisms continue to be debated. Overall, however, it appears that sustained use of multiple languages represents a form of mental activity with effects that accumulate across a lifetime. AI translation excels at speed and accessibility. For many practical purposes, it works remarkably well. AI will continue to change how we engage with language learning. It can personalize instruction, minimize barriers and provide feedback at scale. But it can’t replace the cognitive work that comes from learning a language. This work builds and preserves the mental sharpness that sustains us across a lifetime. And this difference still matters. 32.Why does the author mention “live speech translation” and “auto-dubbing” in paragraph 1? A. To choose one as the topic. B. To invite further reflection. C. To recommend translation apps. D. To praise technological advances. 33.What do we know about the recent study? A. Its method is totally traditional. B. Its process is very time-consuming. C. Its subjects are distributed across ages. D. Its results match most previous claims. 34.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A. AI translation excels in a wide range of aspects. B. AI will not shake the value of language learning. C. AI era greatly changes how people use a language. D. AI has a long way to go before doing cognitive work. 35.Where is the article most probably taken from? A. A science magazine. B. A local news update. C. A technological brochure. D. An English-learning guide. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question: “Should I jump?” This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of same coin. 36 Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided. 37 More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal? First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals. You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work. 38 So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity(清晰) of thoughts can help you move forward. Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember goals are flexible. 39 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals. Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a Pilot but can't become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 40 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal. You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals. A. This can affect your work. B. So how should you motivate yourself? C. However, this should not discourage you. D. So why should we try to set specific goals? E. They can change according to circumstances. F. Motivation is what you need most to do a good job. G. Without motivation you can neither set a goal nor reach it. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节(共 15小题;每小题 1分,满分 15分) This happened when I was ten. Unexpectedly, there was a time in my life when everything changed. A sunshine suddenly arose from my heart, opening its door to a new world where I was the key in helping those in need of a hand. I was a freshman in high school when I stepped in our local nursing home, complaining about having to volunteer there on weekends because my mom had asked me to. Anyway, when I pulled into the parking lot, I realized how different the place was. It was nice and clean with elders everywhere. As I checked in at the front desk for my first service hours, I received a stream of greetings from the surrounding people. It felt as good as breathing in love, which filled me with sudden warmth. Shelby, the lady in charge of community service, assigned me to watch for the elder in room111. My job was to help with anything she needed. At first, I thought this was the beginning of a nightmare, but it turned out to be something completely different. After listening to Shelby’s instructions, I walked toward my destination and knocked softly at the door, asking if I could come in. A voice came from inside answering yes. I stepped inside and introduced myself, with an explanation of why I was there. Meanwhile, I took a look around. The white walls were almost covered in picture frames. I could tell from the pictures she must have been a teacher before. While I was looking around, she introduced herself as Marie Brown, going to be 80 in two months. Her face marked by wrinkles of wisdom could really tell me her life story. “So you’ve been here for a while?” I asked. For a minute it was all silent, and then she answered yes with a very sad voice, adding that she had no family. Realizing I had asked the wrong question, I felt bad, for the first time, for hurting someone’s feelings, especially this lonely elder’s. 注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Seeing my embarrassment, Marie smiled at me and signed to me to sit by her. _________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Touched by her stories, I determined to give Marie care, company and even surprises. __ ______________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 答案 第二部分 阅读(共20小题,每小题2.5分,满分 50 分) 21-23 ADA 24-27 ACDA 28-31 AADB 32-35 BCBA 36-40 GBAEC 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节(共 15小题;每小题 1分,满分 15分) 41-45 CBADD 46-50 CBCDB 51-55 ADBCA 第二节(共 10小题;每小题 1.5分,满分 15分) 56. came 57. who 58. allowing 59. to 60. a 61. affected 62. more 63. to be 64. closely 65. patterns 第四部分 写作(共两节,满分 40分) 第一节(满分 15分 ) Should Robots Have Human Emotions? As a sci-fi fan, I firmly believe robots should not be given human emotions. First, emotions make humans who we are. If robots gain feelings, the line between humans and machines may become unclear, leading to identity confusion. Second, emotional robots might cause unexpected problems. For example, they could refuse to perform dangerous tasks due to fear or sadness, which puts humans at risk. Finally, creating emotional robots risks turning science fiction into a harsh reality we are not fully prepared for. Let us keep robots as helpful and loyal tools, not companions with human-like feelings. We should not cross that line for our own good. 第二节(满分 25 分) Seeing my embarrassment, Marie smiled at me and signed to me to sit by her. Saying softly, "Never mind, I've been used to it," she patted me on the arm, attempting to cheer me up. Learning I was in high school, Marie was lost in thought and started to talk about her old days as a teacher, from which I could sense her deep love for her students. Then she showed the pictures hanging on the walls, excitedly sharing her stories concerning her students and proudly introducing what each of them was up to(从事,忙于). Touched by her stories, I determined to give Marie care, company and even surprises. I'd call on Marie, chatting with her and doing everything I could for her. On her 80th birthday, with the help of Shelby and other elders, I held a grand party and managed to invite some of her students to come. When I accompanied Marie into the party, all present rose, clapping smilingly and wishing her happy birthday. The big surprise brought excited tears to her eyes, her wrinkled face glowing with happiness. Bathed in the heart-warming atmosphere, I felt so delighted to have lit up an old teacher's life, which in turn made a difference to me. 高三英语 第2页(共8页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
