We may choose to balance (平衡) our own hopes and dreams with those of our parents, as well as think about the courses that may help us to find work in the future. But what helps us to make our final decision? Researchers from South Korea have been trying to find out the influence that conversations with parents have on high school students’ course choices. And they think they might have found a pattern (模式). The study showed that the more time children spend talking with their parents about their choices, the more likely they are to study medicine, education, physical education, art or music after finishing high school. The researchers looked at information of almost 1,300 students who were in the second year of high school in 2016, and followed them as they moved on to college. They found that students who often talked with their parents about their interests and their future studies were more likely to choose courses that need quite specialized ability instead of courses like humanities and social sciences. The research team said that South Korean parents were now having more of an influence on their children’s choices about college. “Talking with parents greatly influences students’ decisions on whether to go to college,” they said. But there were other important factors (因素), too. Children with richer parents were more likely to go to college, and students with higher grades in math were also more likely to go to college. But grades in Korean and English were not so important in deciding whether or not a student went on to study at college. 4. What can we learn from the study? A. Choosing a college is usually hard for children. B. Children should spend more time with parents. C. Children refuse to share their dreams with their parents. D. Communication with parents is influential in children’s decisions. 5. How did the researchers carry out their study? A. By researching collected information. B. By asking students questions. C. Study Looks at Parents’ Influence on Children’s College Choices D. Study Finds Out Children Have Difficulty Making College Choices C Bike Batman is a 31-year-old married engineer who lives in Seattle, Washington. He’s a cyclist who also buys and sells bikes as a hobby. About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell. As he often did, he also looked at Bike Index, a popular website that allows users to register their bikes and post reports when they’re taken. The bike, which he was considering purchasing (采购), clearly matched one reported stolen on Bike Index. Then he called the person who claimed to be the bike’s owner and arranged (安排) to meet him — supposedly to complete the sale. When the two men met, Bike Batman told the thief, “You’ve got two choices. You can wait until a police officer gets here, or you can just get out of here.” You can imagine what the thief did. After that first success, Bike Batman developed a safer routine. When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index. Once he has checked and confirmed it with the owner, he arranges a meet-up with the thief and will call the Seattle police department so that officers can participate in the action. In more than half of the 22 cases in which he has got back and returned bikes, the thieves have been arrested (逮捕). In one case, Bike Batman even helped a family recover a wide range of prized possessions that suspects had stolen during a home burglary His nickname came from a discussion with a police officer who suggested he be called “Robin Hood”. Since he wasn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, “Batman” seemed a better fit. The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s reputation as a friendly city. 8. What will Bike Batman first do when discovering a questionable bike? A. He’ll contact the real bike owner. B. He’ll arrange to meet the thief. C. He’ll call the police department. D. He’ll look up the bike’s information. 9. What does the underlined word “recover” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Get back. B. Pick up. C. Get better. D. Return. 10. Bike Batman helps find the lost bikes to ________. A. become famous B. help poor people C. punish bike thieves D. build a friendly city 11. What can we learn from the passage? A. The thieves refused to return the bikes. B. The police failed to perform their duties. C. Bike Batman began his good deeds by accident. D. Bike Batman felt silly to see the thieves arrested. You can picture it already: relaxing with your closest friends and exploring new exciting destinations. D 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第三段“When he sees questionable bike ads on Craigslist, he cross-references the image with bikes reported on Bike Index.(当他在Craigslist上看到可疑的自行车广告时,他会将图片与Bike Index上挂失的自行车进行交叉比对)”可知,他发现可疑自行车后,首先做的是查找核对自行车的信息。 选项A(Get back)意为“找回”,符合句意。 根据最后一段“The idea of a superhero punishing criminals feels pretty silly to him, but the main reason he continues his work is to keep up Seattle’s reputation as a friendly city.(他觉得超级英雄惩罚罪犯的想法听起来很荒谬,但他继续这份工作的主要原因是为了维护西雅图作为友好城市的声誉)”可知,他帮助寻找丢失的自行车是为了建设/维护一个友好的城市。 根据第二段“About three years ago, he was looking for a bike for his wife. He found one on Craigslist, a website where people list things they want to sell.(大约三年前,他正在为妻子找一辆自行车。他在Craigslist上找到了一辆,这是一个人们发布想出售物品的网站)”可知,大约三年前,他原本只是在网上给妻子找一辆自行车,却意外发现了一辆与失窃记录匹配的自行车,从而促成了他的第一次行动。由此可推断,Bike Batman开始他的善举是出于偶然。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You can picture it already: relaxing with your closest friends and exploring new exciting destinations.
