In a village a few kilometres from the West Flanders coast, Nele Bekaert fetches one of several Brabant horses that her family owns. Weighing about a ton, the powerful horse is ideal for pulling a drag net to catch tiny, grey shrimp (虾) in the North Sea. Bekaert rides the horse to the seaside of Oostduinkerke, Belgium.
Upon arrival, she puts on bright yellow waterproof overalls and ties ropes and a large net behind the horse. Two baskets are placed at the animal’s sides. Bekaert skillfully seats herself between the baskets. She leads the horse into the sea until the water reaches the top parts of its legs and they slowly move parallel to the coastline, causing a unique scene. A metal chain attached to the front of the net over the sand, creating “shockwaves” that cause shrimp to jump into the net, while water pressure pushes the catch to the back.
After about 30 minutes, Bekaert and her “co-worker” return to shore. She empties the net, washes and sorts the catch, keeping shrimp and fish that are fully grown, while releasing the small-sized shrimp and baby crabs back into the sea. This helps maintain biodiversity and prevents the unintentional capture of non- target species.
Bekaert is part of a team of 14 active horseback shrimp fishers, formerly known as East Dunkirk Horse Fishers. Each year in Oostduinkerke, they give 36 public demonstrations and participate in a Shrimp Festival, events funded by the government to keep the craft alive.
Nowadays, the old-fashioned method has been entirely replaced by commercial development except in Oostduinkerke. That is thanks to former mayor (市长) Honoré Loones, who saved horseback shrimp fishing from extinction in 1950 by making it a tourist attraction with the first Shrimp Festival. The craft has been supported by the government ever since.
The East Dunkirk Horse Fishers play a vital role in promoting the craft. Members travel for demonstrations at events across Europe. “The tradition is very important,” Bekaert notes. “I’m happy to help preserve and share it.”
4. What makes Bekaert’s shrimp fishing unusual?
A. Her fishing on horseback. B. Her plastic fishing net.
C. Her protective equipment. D. Her fishing off the coast.
5. Which word can best describe Bekaert’s method of sorting the catch?
A. Labor-saving. B. Profit-oriented. C. Sustainable. D. Efficient.
6. Why do the shrimp fishers give so many public demonstrations?
A. To work hard to survive. B. To pass down the ancient fishing skill.
C. To raise funds for the government. D. To commercialize the Shrimp Festival.
7. What can we infer about horseback shrimp fishing?
A. It is expected to die out soon. B. It boosts the global tourism industry.
C. It faced extinction in the past. D. It has threatened commercial fishing.

Start reading recent internet conversations about AI, and you’ll find a topic that surfaces with increasing frequency: ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical advice.
“Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,” begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New York. After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three-day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily management of health as a complement (补充) to advice from medical professionals. Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage symptoms and treatment for the cancer he’s been diagnosed with. He frequently shows AI test results and asks it to translate them into comprehensible English. Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action-planning session.”
Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already.
8. What does Bethany Crystal’s case in paragraph 2 indicate?
A. The popularity of ChatGPT. B. The significance of regular checkups.
C. The lack of medical knowledge. D. The value of AI-aided medical diagnosis.
9. What do we know about ChatGPT Health?
A. Its users’ privacy is better protected. B. It provides better health care than doctors.
C. It has 100 million registered users. D. It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend.
10. What impact has AI brought to Rosen?
A. It improves the cure rate for his disease.
B. It reduces his trust in medical personnel.
C. It offers him real-time translation at the doctor’s.
D. It changes the way he communicates with his doctor.
11. What does the underlined word “hazards” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders.
D
Experts are calling for a global effort to identify “positive tipping points” to accelerate the green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper. A tipping point is a threshold (临界点) where a small change can cause a significant, often irreversible (不可逆转的), transformation. Positive tipping points in human societies and economies can bring about rapid reductions in emissions and other environmental harm, even as climate breakdown becomes increasingly damaging and dangerous.
Some positive tipping points are already happening — with solar power and electric vehicles rapidly replacing fossil-fuelled alternatives — but many more are needed to ensure a sustainable future.
“The global economy is decarbonising (脱去……的碳) at least five times too slowly to meet the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to well below 2℃,” said Professor Tim Lenton, from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter. “The challenge now is to identify potential positive tipping points, and the actions that can bring them forward — while avoiding wishful thinking about their existence, or oversimplification of their nature, drivers and impacts.”
The paper sets out a method for identifying positive tipping points, assessing their proximity, identifying the factors that can influence them, and the actions that can lead to them. This includes looking for evidence that a system, or a similar system, has “tipped” in the past.
Another factor is whether there is potential for “self-pushing uptake” of zero-or low-carbon behaviors. For example, as more people buy electric cars, the performance, price and infrastructure improve — making it easier for others to follow, and therefore accelerating the transition.
“We know positive tipping can happen in sectors such as power and road transport,” said Dr Steve Smith, also from the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter. “In other sectors, there is little sign of approaching tipping points and in a few, such as nuclear power and concrete production, we should not expect there to be tipping points at all.”
12. How does the author present the topic in the first paragraph?
A. By raising a question. B. By defining a key concept.
C. By listing specific data. D. By telling a personal story.
13. What is the current situation of positive tipping points?
A. They remain purely theoretical at present.
B. They are too slow to affect global warming.
C. They have occurred in some areas already.
D. They are happening in all economic sectors.
14. What is Dr Steve’s attitude to the tipping points of nuclear power?
A. Negative. B. Cautious. C. Optimistic. D. Indifferent.
15. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. The Role of Electric Vehicles in Climate Action
B. The Way to Decarbonise the Global Economy Rapidly
C. Challenges of Reaching Environmental Tipping Points
D. Identifying Positive Tipping Points for Green Transition

第二节(满分25分)
47. The annual City Marathon was approaching, and for the first time, there was a parent-child relay category. When my dad excitedly suggested we sign up together, I wanted to refuse. Dad was in his fifties, with a slight limp from an old knee injury. “Come on, son,” he said, his eyes shining. “It’s only five kilometers each. We can train together.”
I reluctantly agreed, but deep down, I doubted whether he could finish. For the next month, we ran together every morning. Dad was slower than me, much slower. I often had to jog in place waiting for him to catch up. Some mornings, I pretended to be sick just to avoid the embarrassment of being seen running with him.
The day of the race arrived. The streets were lined with cheering crowds. I stood at the starting line with my dad, trying to ignore the stares of other runners. When the gun fired, I took off, leaving my dad behind. I completed my five kilometers in good time and waited at the relay point, catching my breath.
Then I saw him. Dad was limping noticeably, his face red with effort. But he kept moving, one foot in front of the other, refusing to stop. As he approached me to hand off the timing chip, I noticed his knuckles were white from gripping it so tightly.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;

根据第二段中“Bekaert skillfully seats herself between the baskets. She leads the horse into the sea until the water reaches the top parts of its legs and they slowly move parallel to the coastline, causing a unique scene.(Bekaert灵巧地坐在篮子之间。她将马儿引向大海,直到海水淹没马腿的上部,它们缓缓与海岸线平行移动,形成了一幅独特的景象)”可知,Bekaert捕虾的方式之所以独特是因为她骑在马背上捕虾。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段内容“She empties the net, washes and sorts the catch, keeping shrimp and fish that are fully grown, while releasing the small-sized shrimp and baby crabs back into the sea. This helps maintain biodiversity and prevents the unintentional capture of non-target species.(她将网中的渔获倒出,清洗并分类,保留完全成熟的虾和鱼,同时将体型较小的虾和幼蟹放回海中。这有助于维持生物多样性,并防止意外捕获非目标物种)”可知,Bekaert在捕捞时只留下那些完全长成的鱼和虾。其他小虾和小蟹放归大海,这有助于维持生物多样性,是一种可持续的渔获分类方式。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Each year in Oostduinkerke, they give 36 public demonstrations and participate in a Shrimp Festival, events funded by the government to keep the craft alive.(每年在Oostduinkerke,他们都会举办36场面向公众的骑马捕虾技艺演示,并参加捕虾节,这些活动由政府资助,以维持这项手工艺的传承)”和最后一段中““The tradition is very important,” Bekaert notes. “I’m happy to help preserve and share it.”(“传统非常重要,”Bekaert指出,“我很乐意帮助保护和传承它。”)”可知,Bekaert和其他的渔民们每年进行多场马背捕虾表演的目的是延续这种古老的传统。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段中“That is thanks to former mayor (市长) Honoré Loones, who saved horseback shrimp fishing from extinction in 1950 by making it a tourist attraction with the first Shrimp Festival.(这要归功于前市长Honoré Loones,他在1950年通过举办第一届虾节使骑马捕虾成为旅游景点,从而使其免于灭绝。)”可知,这要感谢前任市长洛内斯,他在1950年创办了第一届虾节,使马背捕虾成为一个旅游热点,免于灭绝。这说明在过去马背捕虾曾面临灭绝的风险。

A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders.
【答案】8. D 9. A 10. D 11. B

【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. D
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍专家提出要寻找“正向临界点”助力绿色转型,阐释其概念、识别方法以及不同领域的现实情况。
【12题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中的“A tipping point is a threshold (临界点) where a small change can cause a significant, often irreversible (不可逆转的), transformation.(临界点是一个阈值,微小变化可引发重大且往往不可逆转的转变。)”可知,作者通过对核心概念下定义的方式引出文章话题。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Some positive tipping points are already happening — with solar power and electric vehicles rapidly replacing fossil‑fuelled alternatives — but many more are needed to ensure a sustainable future.(一些积极的临界点正在发生 —— 太阳能与电动汽车正在迅速取代化石燃料驱动的同类产品 —— 但还需要更多此类临界点,才能保障一个可持续的未来。)”可知,正向临界点已经在部分领域发生。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段中的“In other sectors, there is little sign of approaching tipping points and in a few, such as nuclear power and concrete production, we should not expect there to be tipping points at all.(在其他行业,几乎没有接近临界点的迹象,而在少数领域,例如核能和混凝土生产,我们压根不应该指望会存在临界点。)”可知,史蒂夫博士认为核能领域不会出现临界点,对此持否定态度。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“Experts are calling for a global effort to identify “positive tipping points” to accelerate the green transition and have devised a method to find them in a new academic paper.(专家呼吁全球共同努力识别“正向临界点”以加速绿色转型,并在一篇新学术论文中设计出识别该临界点的方法。)”

Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】Dear Chris,
Delighted to know that you are launching the activity themed “Connection” to bridge the interpersonal gap caused by the prevailing AI technology. I’d like to offer some practical suggestions.
Primarily, holding offline interactive workshops is highly recommended. Unlike superficial online communication, face-to-face cooperation enables us to build genuine emotional bonds effectively. Furthermore, it would be ideal to organize small group sharing sessions, where participants can exchange their feelings about alienated social relationships in the AI era.
Such activities can effectively break the virtual barrier, awaken people’s awareness of real-life connection, and ultimately warm up our increasingly distant interpersonal relationships.
Hope my suggestions will be of great help to you.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)

(1)续写词数应为150左右;

Crossing the finish line together, I realized something I had never understood before.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
“Sorry I’m slow,” Dad panted, passing me the chip. I looked at his face — exhausted but determined, and suddenly I felt ashamed. He hadn’t complained once during all those morning runs. He had never given up, even when I had pretended to be sick. “You’re not slow, Dad,” I said, my voice thick. “You’re strong.” I took the chip and ran my second leg, but this time, something was different. I wasn’t running away from him — I was running for him. Every step felt lighter. When I reached the final stretch, I turned back and saw Dad limping toward me, refusing to give up despite the pain.
Crossing the finish line together, I realized something I had never understood before. We didn’t win the race — we came in near the end. But as Dad put his arm around my shoulder, breathing heavily but smiling, I understood what true victory looks like. It isn’t about speed or medals. It’s about showing up, trying your best, and never leaving each other behind. “I’m proud of you, son,” Dad said. “I’m proud of us,” I replied, hugging him tightly. That day, I learned that the greatest race isn’t against other people — it’s against your own doubts. And my dad taught me how to win it.
