Mr. Zhang runs a small repair business in a neighborhood. He fixes old things—shoes, radios, and even broken chairs. Twenty years ago, he had many customers, but later, people stopped repairing things. They just bought new ones. “It was cheaper to buy new than to fix,” Mr. Zhang said.
But recently, something has changed. More and more young people are coming to his shop. Lu Wei, a 28-year-old designer, brought a pair of leather shoes (皮鞋). “I bought these shoes five years ago. They are well-made, and the leather is good quality. I can buy a new pair, but why waste them?” Lu said. After fixing the heels and polishing the leather, Mr. Zhang only charged Lu 30 yuan.
For the younger generation in China, repair shops offer a way to fight against fast fashion. They offer a way to live a low-carbon life. Mr. Zhang has also learned to use social media. His grandson helped him open an account. Now, people can book a repair time online. “Technology is not my enemy,” Mr. Zhang laughs. “It helps me find young friends who care about the environment.”

Finn’s younger brother, Leo, had a serious disease that made it hard for his body to fight off illness, making the outside world a dangerous place. Finn saw the strong wish in Leo’s eyes when he talked about his own hikes or bike rides.
Finn was a member of his school’s tech club. He’d built robots. One night, watching Leo get lost in a map, Finn had an idea: If Leo couldn’t go to the world, he would bring the world to Leo.
He called this idea “The Dreamwalker.” It was about creating a special experience that allowed him to see, hear, and feel things. Finn improved an old virtual reality (VR) headset (头戴式设备), but the key was a pair of special gloves he engineered himself. They could simulate the feeling of touching different things.
Then came the hard part: building the “worlds.” For a hike, Finn took a 360-degree camera on his walk. He didn’t just film; he recorded the sound of the river, the wind, and the birds. He reached out and touched hard stones, soft grass, and cold water, noting the exact feeling.
Back in the lab, he matched the videos to the headset. He programmed the gloves: When Leo “touched” the river, some water produced by an improved computer cooling fan would hit his face, and the special gloves would help him feel the movement of the water.
Then came the first test. Leo put on the headset and gloves, and started the program. He was silent for a minute. Then, “I can…feel the river!” he said. His smile widened behind the headset. For twenty minutes, Leo explored, reaching out, laughing as water hit his face by the “river”.
Finn filmed Leo’s reaction, a joy he hadn’t seen in years. He realized that the highest purpose of technology and skill isn’t to win competitions or create new inventions. It’s to be a bridge. It’s to use your knowledge as a tool for understanding and to give someone you love the special gift of an experience.
26. What can we infer from the underlined part “the outside world a dangerous place"?
A. Leo’s disease made even a normal outdoor outing a risk to his health.
B. Leo was so young that his parents were afraid to let him go out alone.
C. Leo had once gotten lost outside, so he was afraid to go out.
27. Why did Finn call his inventions “The Dreamwalker” instead of simply “a VR machine”?
A. Because he wanted it to sound more attractive to his school’s tech club.
B. Because it did more than show pictures—it let Leo “walk” into a world he could not reach.
C. Because Leo had once dreamed of becoming a hiker in the mountains.
28. What does the underlined word “simulate” probably mean?
A. Copy the look of something.
B. Show the importance of something.
C. Create a realistic experience of something.
29. How did Leo feel during the first test?
A. Nervous and afraid. B. Surprised and happy. C. Confused and upset.
30. What did Finn learn from this experience?
A. Human connections are based on the development of technology.
B. Diseases cannot hold back the dreams of those who never give up.
C. Technology finds its true value in enriching the life of loved ones.

Would you like a cool in-game skin for free? Watch out! It might be a scam (诈骗).
Police across China have reported more scams aimed at teenagers. For example, in Shanghai, 15 percent of those scammed were under 25, with the youngest just 7 years old, data in June showed.
The scams often center around secrecy and fear. One common type involves online games. In Tongzhou district (区), Beijing, the police caught a group that offered teenagers “free” game skins. The teens were told to download programs that let scammers secretly control their phones and computers and steal money without needing a password.
Some scams are trickier and harder to see through at first. In one case, a student got a video call from a stranger. The man wore a police-like uniform and showed a “case-filing notice (立案通知书)”. The student got so scared that he transferred (转账) 183,000 yuan from his father’s bank account, as the man asked.
There are also part-time job scams. In these scams, scammers ask teens to pay money first, promising to pay them back with their “earnings” later.
Although the methods are different, these scams usually follow three steps, according to Wang Qi, an official with Tongzhou police. First, scammers post fake ads (虚假广告) on social media, in video game chat rooms or in the comment sections of short-video apps. Then, they send a link or QR code (二维码) and trick teens into downloading apps with “remote (远程的) help” or “screen-sharing” features. Finally, scammers scare teens into keeping everything secret from their parents, then use the bank or payment details they get to steal money.
In the future, the police plan to introduce new anti-scam (反诈) tools and share more cases. They will also continue public education in homes, schools and businesses.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Online games are the main reason teenagers lose money.
B. Online scams are targeting teenagers in more and more ways.
C. Police are teaching teenagers how to avoid part-time job scams.
32. According to the passage, what did the scammers do to trick teenagers in Tongzhou district?
A. They sold fake game skins at a low price.
B. They posted part-time job ads in video game chat rooms.
C. They used “free” gifts to make teens download dangerous programs.
33. What does the underlined word “trickier” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Harder to see through. B. Easier to deal with. C. More exciting to watch.
34. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The police plan to depend on new anti-scam tools to fight online scams.
B. Teenagers may face higher risks of being cheated online compared with adults.
C. Teenagers may keep things secret from their parents when tricked by scammers.
35. How is the passage organized?
A. Problem → Examples → Steps →Solution
B. Introduction→ Comparison → Conclusion
C. Story → Problem → Advice

Do you know the Silk Road has been a bridge between East and West for more than 2,000 years? It began during the Han Dynasty. It was a network of trade routes (路线) connecting Europe, Africa and Asia.
The Silk Road is about 7,000 kilometers long with 4,000 kilometers in China which includes Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang.
The Silk Road got its name because Chinese silk used to be carried along this road. Besides silk, china and other products went west.
Here are people who played an important role in the Silk Road. During Western Han, Zhang Qian visited the Western area of China twice, forming a route, which enabled silk to spread and became popular for the first time. Ban Chao from Eastern Han Dynasty set off on a diplomatic (外交的) trip to western China. What he has done made the Silk Road to Europe even longer. During Yuan Dynasty, the Italian traveler Marco Polo reached China and described many details about the trade route to the whole world through his book.
The Silk Road was very important to the world. During the trade, knowledge about science, arts and culture were shared across the Silk Road. The towns and cities along the Silk Road developed as well because of the trade.
In modern times, the old Silk Road routes are still used, but trains go through the Road instead of camels and horses. Now, beginning in August, 2022, a new train line, the New Orient Express, runs from Beijing across the Silk Road. Today, places along the Silk Road are great places of interest, such as Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an and Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu.

【答案】26. A 27. B 28. C 29. B 30. C

根据文章第四段“Some scams are trickier and harder to see through at first.”,句中and连接表意相近的并列内容,“harder to see through”是对trickier的补充说明,可推知trickier意为更难识破的。
【34题详解】
根据文章第六段“Finally, scammers scare teens into keeping everything secret from their parents, then use the bank or payment details they get to steal money.”,诈骗分子会吓唬青少年,让他们对父母隐瞒所有相关事情,由此可推断出青少年被诈骗分子欺骗时,可能会向父母保密。

Lai was born in November 1982 in Hong Kong. In 2001, she began to study computer science and information systems at the University of Hong Kong.
Lai first learned about China’s manned space program at the age of 21. “When Yang Liwei flew into space on the Shenzhou V mission, I was full of excitement. He was a great inspiration to me,” Lai said.
In 2011, Lai received her doctoral degree (博士学位) in computer science. “Some companies offered me high-paid jobs at that time, but I wanted to serve the public, so I chose to work for the police,” Lai said.
A turning point came in the autumn of 2022, when the China Manned Space Agency started selecting (选拔) astronauts again. Lai said, “When I saw the notice for payload specialists, I thought it was a great chance. Why not give it a try?”
After several selection rounds, Lai stood out from 120 people. In August 2024, she travelled to Beijing to start her training.
Over the next two years, Lai trained hard, improving herself in all aspects. Her hard work finally paid off, and she successfully joined the Shenzhou XXIII mission team in May 2026. The mission helped her make her dream come true. With long-term training and preparation, she felt confident in her ability to finish the task.
Lai’s achievement has inspired many people. She hopes her journey can encourage more young people to reach for the stars, no matter what the “stars” are for them and how high and far they are.
