六、阅读短文,完成下列表格,每空1个词。

Have you ever wondered why you can only remember the plot (情节) just a few days after you finish a story? If so, here is some advice to help you.

Take notes and highlight important things.

Taking notes isn’t something many students like to do, but there’s a simple reason why it’s so useful: you can’t possibly write everything down, so you’ll have to pick out the most important points. While reading, try to only highlight important information. Before you highlight something, ask yourself, “Does this information fulfill (实现) my purpose for reading the material?” If the answer is no, then it is best not to highlight it.

Connect new ideas to old ones.

Your brain can possibly remember the new information much better and longer by connecting it to what you already know. For example, if you started middle school in 2023, you can remember that China’s Shenzhou 16 spacecraft was launched in the same year. Then, you can remember the year 2023 easily by connecting these two events.

Reword what you read in your own words

After you finish reading a passage, write down what you read in your own words. The goal isn’t to recreate the whole passage in your own words, or it will influence your memory a lot. Just write down a quick summary, so it can help you remember the useful information more clearly. Go back and re-read the information that you could not remember.

Some      1      About Remembering What You Read

Take notes and highlight things in a wise way

● It’s     2     to write everything down, so just pick out the most important points.

● Only highlight the information that fulfills your purpose.

3     the material to something you know

Reword what you read in your own words

● Write down a quick summary     6      of recreating the passage to remember useful things

● Re-read the information that you could not remember.

七、根据短文内容,从短文后的A~F选项中,选出5个适当的选项补全短文。

When you begin learning English, you probably just want to be able to order a cup of coffee and find the bathroom. But at some point, you’ll probably want to sound like a native (母语的) speaker.     1     Here is something you can follow.

First of all, make sure you know your grammar. “Bad grammar will hold you back,” Emile Dodds from Leonardo English website says. Here, he tells of the importance of knowing the rules of a language.     2     In fact, sometimes you should do the opposite thing! A more natural and down-to-earth way can be more useful.

Next, when native speakers talk naturally, they often use contractions. Contractions are shortened forms of words, such as “can’t” for “cannot” and “won’t” for “will not”.     3     Although these contractions are not often used in writing, they sound very natural in spoken English.

Then, filler words are necessary too. Filler words are another important part of natural speech. They are little words like “so”, “um”, and “you know”.     4     For example, when you want to invite someone, you might say, “So, I was thinking, um, are you doing anything later?”

5     You can learn by listening to native speakers on the Internet or in movies to hear how they speak. This way, you can pick up useful words and sentences to improve your speaking skills. Keep practicing, and soon you will sound more like a native speaker!

A.They help you to express yourself more clearly.

B.Learning to speak naturally takes time and practice.

C.So how can you make your speech sound more natural?

D.However, that doesn’t mean you have to speak like the King of England.

E.Native speakers also shorten “going to” to “gonna” or “got to” to “gotta”.

F.They not only sound natural, but also give you time to think about what you’ll say next.

八、短文填空

Smart learning has become     1     popular trend in students’ daily study. According     2     a recent survey among 500 students in our city, many students discover that smart learning tools make their study more efficient.

3     (tradition) study methods like reading newspapers or printing notes are still helpful,     4     smart tools bring more convenience. For example, some apps can teach students pronunciation through videos, and virtual labs let     5     (they) have a hands-on learning experience without real equipment.

When     6     (use) smart tools, it’s important to focus on our goals—we shouldn’t get distracted (分散注意力) by fun games in the apps. With regular practice, most students feel more     7     (confidence) in solving difficult problems. Besides, it’s a good habit     8     (reflect) on what we     9     (learn) every weekend, so we can remember key     10     (point) better.

九、阅读理解

“You pretty, he ugly (丑). You swan (天鹅), he frog.” This sentence might sound funny in English. But it is lively! Both Chinese and foreigners can understand and enjoy it. It is an example of Chinglish.

It all started when a foreign girl put a sad photo online. It looked like her boyfriend made her cry. Some nice Chinese people tried to cheer her up. They created some funny Chinglish, such as “You swan, he frog.” Many foreigners found it cool and shared it a lot online with funny pictures. After looking into it, they learned that it came from the famous old Chinese story of the beautiful swan and the ugly toad (癞蛤蟆), and got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish.

In the past, people often corrected Chinglish because it was full of grammar mistakes. But now, different styles of speaking English are becoming common and even accepted. For example, the well-known “add oil” has appeared in the Oxford dictionary and people use it widely. The phrase shows Chinese culture. “Once I understood the full meaning, it became much funnier,” said Cody, a young man from New Zealand.

It’s great that more Chinese culture is being shared with the rest of the world. But for young English learners like us, it’s still important to use proper English, especially in tests and at formal events. Proper English keeps things clear.

十、书面表达

Good Learning Habits Lead Us to Success

Dear students,

As we all know good habits are like our best friends. Today, I’d like to share some ideas about learning habits with you.

Excellent learners usually make a study plan for their study. They always focus in class and take notes carefully. Also, they review their lessons on time after school to remember what they have learned. How can we develop these habits? First, we should start from small things. Second, we need to keep doing them every day. If we meet problems, asking teachers for help is a good way. Good habits help us improve ourselves and lead us to success.

Let’s start to build good learning habits from now on!

Best Regards

Li Hua
