They asked for my ideas about the color of the walls. I suggested painting the walls light yellow because it made me feel warm. My parents agreed quickly. Then we went to the paint shop, chose the paint, and bought brushes and some other tools. On a Sunday morning, we started our painting work. My father and I painted the walls while my mother prepared delicious food for us. We worked carefully to make the walls a nice and bright color. Hukou Waterfall sits on the Yellow River— the second longest river in China. It’s one of China’s most popular places of interest.
The waterfall gets its name “Hukou” because the river here looks like the mouth of a pot, only about 30 to 50 meters wide. The water runs very fast down the high rocks and makes a loud sound. This makes many tourists say they almost forget time while watching this fantastic scene.
Each season dresses the waterfall differently. Summer rains make it more powerful, while winter turns it into a magical world of ice.
However, Hukou Waterfall faces problems like water pollution now. This natural treasure needs action from everyone. Local people are trying to clean the river, and tourists must follow rules when traveling there. In this way, we can keep it a beautiful and clean place.

For years, I fought with the “bird’s nest” on top of my head. My mother thought my hair was naturally beautiful, but my classmates didn’t agree. They made fun of it, calling my hair “the mop (拖把)”.
When I got to college, I decided to change my hairstyle. I had my curly hair straightened (拉直). However, it cost me $700 once every six months to do this. People said I was crazy to spend that much on my hair. But I was willing to do anything to never again see that curly-haired girl in the mirror.
But when I had to rent (租) my own apartment, the cost became too high. So I turned to the Internet, Google. In the end, I found a “curly haired” salon, a place designed for girls like me.
When I arrived there, the stylist, Jacquai, was waiting for me.
“Do you really think this will work?” I asked.
“No curly hair is hopeless,” she replied. “You just haven’t found a way to work with it. That’s all.”
After the hour was over, Jacquai had completed her work. She had fixed my hair using only her hands. I couldn’t believe it: My hair looked beautiful.

57. The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world. An adult giraffe can be as tall as 5 to 6 meters. Its long neck helps it eat leaves from the tops of trees that other animals cannot reach.
58. The cheetah is the fastest land animal. It can run at speeds of up to 100kilometers per hour. However, it can only keep this speed for a very short time.
59.The giant sequoia trees (巨杉) in California are some of the largest and oldest living things on our planet. The oldest one is about 3, 200 years old. They can grow very tall and wide.
60. The ostrich (鸵鸟) is the largest bird in the world. However, it cannot fly. Instead, it has very strong legs and can run very fast to get away from danger.
A.This is amazing! It’s hard to believe that the biggest animal eats the smallest ones. Nature is full of surprises.
B.I really hope to see the cutest animal on my own someday and watch how slowly it moves in the trees.
C. It’s unbelievable how fast it can run! I wonder why it can’t run that fast for a long time. It must use a lot of energy.
D.This is a serious problem. We need to stop cutting down trees in rainforests. Many animals are losing their homes.
E. It’s wonderful that these trees can live for such a long time. We must protect our forests so they can live for even more years.
F. It’s interesting that it’s the biggest bird but can’t fly. Using its legs instead of wings is a smart way to live.
G. This is so interesting. Its long neck is a perfect example of how animals change over time to live better in their environment.
【答案】56.A 57.G 58.C 59.E 60.F
A选项“This is amazing! It’s hard to believe that the biggest animal eats the smallest ones. Nature is full of surprises.”
G选项“This is so interesting. Its long neck is a perfect example of how animals change over time to live better in their environment.”
C选项“It’s unbelievable how fast it can run! I wonder why it can’t run that fast for a long time. It must use a lot of energy.”
E选项“It’s wonderful that these trees can live for such a long time. We must protect our forests so they can live for even more years.”
F选项“It’s interesting that it’s the biggest bird but can’t fly. Using its legs instead of wings is a smart way to live.”
Do you have true friends? Do you want to know better between you and your friends?
61 They are “pest friends”, “guest friends” and “best friends”.
The first kind of friends is simply an acquaintance (熟人). All you usually know about them is their names. You may meet this kind of friend at school, at work, or on the bus, but you don’t miss them when they’re not around. 62 That is why they are called “pest friends”.
The second kind of friends could also be called “social partners”. 63 You know their names, a little of what they like or dislike, and a little of their family histories. You usually have a few things in common, but you don’t talk about anything deep, such as your wishes or fears, and they don’t open up to you how they really feel.
The last kind of friends, the “best friends”, is the one you know the deepest. 64 You have no problem staying at each other’s houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct you when you’re wrong. Sometimes they may not be perfect, but at least they will always care about you, and never do anything on purpose to hurt you.
65 We should value all friendships and remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances.
A.They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends.
B.There are three different kinds of friends.
C.You’re like family, and know everything about each other.
D.We all have our pest, guest and best friends.
E.They will help you with your life problems.
F.When this kind of friend does something bad, you don’t tell them.
【答案】61.B 62.F 63.A 64.C 65.D
根据空后“They are ‘pest friends’ ‘guest friends’ and ‘best friends’.” B“There are three different kinds of friends.”
62.根据空前对点头之交的描述“All you usually know about them is their names...you don’t miss them when they’re not around.”以及空后“That is why they are called ‘pest friends’.” F“When this kind of friend does something bad, you don’t tell them.”
63.根据本段首句“The second kind of friends could also be called ‘social partners’.”以及空后对其程度的细化“You know their names, a little of what they like or dislike...but you don’t talk about anything deep”可知,这类朋友介于点头之交和真正挚友之间。选项A“They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends.”
64.根据空前的“The last kind of friends, the ‘best friends’, is the one you know the deepest.”以及空后的“You have no problem staying at each other’s houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts.” C“You’re like family, and know everything about each other.”
65.根据空后的总结性建议“We should value all friendships and remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances.” D“We all have our pest, guest and best friends.”

doubt, allow, respect, trouble, friendly, and, but, happy, often, share, still, importantly
Friendships are like small plants—they need care to grow. 76 sometimes, we may face problems in friendships, and knowing how to deal with them can help us keep our friends close.
Lily and Emma used to be best friends. They 77 walked to school together and 78 snacks every day. But last month, Lily started to 79 Emma. She thought Emma didn’t want to play with her anymore, because Emma sometimes talked with other classmates during break. Lily didn’t feel 80 and even avoided Emma for a few days.
One afternoon, Lily decided to talk to Emma. She said, “I’ve been worried that you don’t like me as a friend now.” Emma was surprised. She explained, “I 81 like being your friend! I just wanted to be 82 to new classmates too.” This talk helped Lily understand Emma better. She learned that not talking about feelings can bring 83 to friendships.
After that, they made a small rule: they would always tell each other how they felt. They also agreed to 84 each other to have other friends—good friendships don’t mean you can’t be close to others. Most 85 , they promised to respect each other’s ideas, even when they didn’t agree. For example, when Lily wanted to draw and Emma wanted to read, they took turns doing what each liked.
Now, Lily and Emma’s friendship is stronger than before. They know that no friendship is perfect, but with open talks, respect, and trust, you can fix small problems easily.
76.But 77.often 78.shared 79.doubt 80.happy 81.still
82.friendly 83.trouble 84.allow 85.importantly
“they need care to grow, ____ sometimes, we may face problems in friendships”表示前后内容转折。
“They ____ walked to school together”表示经常一起步行上学。
“and ____ snacks every day”表示每天分享零食。
“be ____ to new classmates”表示对新同学友好。 固定搭配be friendly to sb.
“agreed to ____ each other to have other friends”表示同意允许对方拥有其他朋友。 固定搭配allow sb. to do sth.

I suppose everyone has their own thoughts about themselves. I am an outgoing boy and I love reading in my free time. Reading helps me open my eyes to the outside world.
My favorite quality is persistence. It pushes me to keep trying whenever I meet difficulties and never give up easily. This quality makes me braver when I face challenges in study and daily life.

They asked for my ideas about the color of the walls. I suggested painting the world's light yellow because IT made me feel warm. My parents agreed quickly. Then we went to the paint shop, shows the paint and bought brushes and some other tools. On a sunday morning, we started our painting work. My father and I painted the walls well. My mother prepared delicious food for us. We worked carefully to make the walls a nice and bright color. After finishing the work, the living room looked much more beautiful. Although we were tired, we had a great time. Home is not just a place to live in. There we can help each other, hand show our love. Every corner of our home is filled with love. 7 a.m.
The first thing we do in the morning is check on all the animals in our charge. We take a head count and make sure everyone appears healthy. Our North American beavers (河狸) are active at night. We give them a quick hello and try not to disturb their rest.

Every day, we sort through more than 100 pounds of fish for our sea lions and seals (海豹).
Together with our volunteers, we make sure that the fish is of the highest quality before we feed it to an animal.

Our sea lions are fed many times a day. Each feeding is an opportunity for us to carefully check every part of their bodies.

10:15 a.m.
Our daily sea lion and seal show begins! Our visitors are always surprised at the intelligence of these animals. Through our shows, they also learn how to help protect sea animals.
1:45 p.m.
Our beavers wake up. We feed them and do a careful body check on each of them.
2:20 p.m.

Now my world has changed. I am more outgoing and confident than before. People say that I am looking better than before, but that they don’t know what has changed. Hair is not just hair.

7 a.m.
The first thing we do in the morning is check on all the animals in our charge. We take a head count and make sure everyone appears healthy. Our North American beavers (河狸) are active at night. We give them a quick hello and try not to disturb their rest.

2:20 p.m.

Now my world has changed. I am more outgoing and confident than before. People say that I am looking better than before, but that they don’t know what has changed. Hair is not just hair.
I don’t need to tell them. My hair speaks for itself.
