Write a poem using 100 words or fewer”可知,所写的诗字数不能超过100字。 B。 B By day, Robert Titterton is a lawyer. In his spare  time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova — not as a musician but as her page turner. “I’m not a trained musician, but I’ve learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.” Mr Titterton is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group’s official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score so the musician doesn’t have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage. “A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don’t turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.” Mr Titterton explained. Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40 minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of “nodding” to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner. But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. “I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to fall off the stand,” Mr Titterton said, “Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back.” Most page turners are piano students or up-and-coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage. “My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He’s interested in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ Robert is the best page turner I’ve had in my entire life.” 4. What should Titterton be able to do to be a page turner? A. Read music. B. Play the piano. C. Sing songs. D. Fix the instruments. 5. Which of the following best describes Titterton’s job on stage? A. Boring. B. Well-paid. C. Demanding. D. Dangerous. 6. What does Titterton need to practise? A. Counting the pages. B. Recognizing the “nodding”. C. Catching falling objects. D. Performing in his own style. 7. Why is Ms Raspopova’s husband “the worst page turner”? A. He has very poor eyesight. B. He ignores the audience. C. He has no interest in music. D. He forgets to do his job. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段“I’m not a trained musician, but I’ve learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.(我不是受过训练的音乐家,但我学会了识谱,这样我就可以在Maria的表演中帮助她)”可知,因为Titterton识谱,所以可以在Maria的钢琴表演中为她翻页。故选A项。 根据第三段“A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don’t turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.(这项工作需要很多技能。 根据第四段“Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of “nodding” to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.(无声的舞台交流是关键,每个钢琴家都有自己的“点头”风格来表示翻页,他们需要和翻页者进行练习)”可知,Titterton需要练习识别钢琴演奏者的“点头”示意来翻页。 根据最后一段“He’s interested in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’(他对音乐很感兴趣,感受着每一个音符,所以我不得不说:“翻页,翻页!”)” C We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parts less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighborhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet. In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organisations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago film-maker David Bond realised that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s ear without getting a response. He realised that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director from Nature”. He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature. “Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be on habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.” Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it. Let us get them out and let them play. 8. What is the problem with the author’s children? A. They often annoy their neighbours. B. They are tired of doing their homework. C. They have no friends to play with D. They stay in front of screens for too long. 9. How did David Bond advocate his idea? A. By making a documentary film. B. By organizing outdoor activities. C. By advertising in London media. D. By creating a network of friends. 10. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “charts” in paragraph 2? A. records B. predicts C. delays D. confirms 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Let Children Have Fun B. Young Children Need More Free Time C. Market Nature to Children D. David Bond: A Role Model for Children 【答案】8. D 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第一段中的“However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. 根据文章第二段“He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marked to young people. 故选A项。 根据本句“a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(这部电影charts世界网络的诞生,世界网络这个组织的共同目标是让孩子们走进大自然。),由“a film”可知,本句主语是一部电影,下文“the birth of the World Network (世界网络的诞生)”解释了这部电影的主旨。 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the World Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature. D Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional (情感的) intelligence. Many people now misunderstand emotional intelligence as almost everything desirable in a person's makeup that cannot be measured by an IQ test, such as character, motivation, confidence, mental stability, optimism and “people skills.” Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities, but most of them move far beyond skill-based emotional intelligence. We prefer to describe emotional intelligence as a specific set of skills that can be used for either good or bad purposes. The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. Being emotionally intelligent does not necessarily make one a moral person. Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. The most positive aspect of this popularization is a new and much needed emphasis (重视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social well-being. The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers re-evaluate the functionality of emotions and how they serve people adaptively in everyday life. Although the continuing popular appeal of emotional intelligence is desirable, we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives (视角) from which to study how people manage their lives. Emotional intelligence, with its focus on both head and heart, may serve to point us in the right direction. 12. What is a common misunderstanding of emotional intelligence? A. It can be measured by an IQ test. B. It helps to exercise a person’s mind. C. It includes a set of emotional skills. D. It refers to a person’s positive qualities. 13. Why does the author mention “doctor” and “cheater” in paragraph 2? A. To explain a rule. B. To clarify a concept. C. To present a fact. D. To make a prediction. 14. What is the author’s attitude to the popularization of emotional intelligence? A. Favorable. B. Intolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear. 15. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning emotional intelligence? A. Its appeal to the public. B. Expectations for future studies. C. Its practical application. D. Scientists with new perspectives. D 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities (研究表明,情商技巧可能有助于这些品质的形成)”可知,情商有助于这些品质的形成,所以情商并不是指一个人的积极品质。 根据第二段“The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. (医生可能利用这种准确理解他人感受的能力来找到最好的帮助病人的方法,而骗子可能利用这种能力来控制潜在的受害者)”可推知,作者在文章第二段中提到“医生”和“骗子”是举例子来阐明下文的观点——情商高并不一定能使一个人成为有道德的人。故选B项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. …The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers (宣传的总体效果一直是利大于弊。这种普及最积极的方面是雇主、教育者和其他对促进社会福利感兴趣的人对情感进行了新的、迫切需要的强调。情商的普及帮助了公众和研究人员)”可知,作者认为总体效果利大于弊,情商的普及帮助了公众和研究人员,所以作者对情商普及的态度是赞同的。故选A项。 根据最后一段“we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives from which to study how people manage their lives. (我们希望这种关注将激发人们对情感科学和学术研究的更大兴趣。我们希望在未来的几十年里,科学的进步将为研究人们如何管理自己的生活提供新的视角)”可推知,本段主要讲述对未来关于情商研究的期望。故选B项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Hobbies are more than just a fun way to kill the time. A widespread and harmful misunderstanding is that engaging in hobbies mirrors a lack of self-discipline. ___16___ In fact, hobbies can provide essential balance in our lives and enhance overall well-being. The benefits you obtain will depend on your hobby-taking up jogging, for instance, will benefit your cardiovascular (心血管的) health more than, say, crossword puzzles, which may improve your cognitive health The point is that nearly all hobbies can provide measurable positive health benefits. If we regularly spend time on hobbies, we usually enjoy a higher level of fitness. ___17___. A 2023 comprehensive analysis of multiple studies found strong evidence that engaging in leisure activities can improve health by protecting against heart disease and age-related physical decline. The report, published in the journal Lancet Psychiatry, found that for people who were suffering from a chronic (慢性的) illness, doing a hobby helped them manage their symptoms and even slowed the progression of their illness. But another of the researchers’ findings is perhaps the most striking: the strong relationship between doing leisure activities and increased longevity (长寿). ___18___ It found that older adults have a 19% lower risk of disease-related death when they engage in regular leisure activities. ___19___ They are vital to sustaining our mental health. People who made a conscious effort each day to spend time doing hobbies (no matter what they were) showed an average boost of 8% in well-being and a 10% drop in stress and anxiety, according to a 2023 study published in the Journal of Personality. “On a fundamental level, humans need meaning, something that gives them a sense of purpose. ___20___” says Dr Hafeez, who has led several massive studies on hobbies. “Engaging in what you enjoy greatly enhances your well-being.” With all these visible benefits of hobbies, why not just make time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment every day? A. The science backs this up. B. Hobbies make us happier. C. You gain a lot from hobbies. D. Nothing could be further from the truth. E. The more you engage in hobbies, the longer you will live. F. A different study conducted last year confirmed the impact. G. And being able to pursue your passion really contributes to that. D 17. A 18. F 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 由上文“Hobbies are more than just a fun way to kill the time. A widespread and harmful misunderstanding is that engaging in hobbies mirrors a lack of self-discipline. (爱好不仅仅是消磨时间的有趣方式。一个普遍且有害的误解是,从事爱好反映了缺乏自律。)”及下文“In fact, hobbies can provide essential balance in our lives and enhance overall well-being. (事实上,爱好可以为我们生活提供必要的平衡,并提升整体福祉。)”可知,这里需要一个句子来反驳前一句的误解,强调爱好的正面作用,引出下文对爱好的正面阐述。D选项“Nothing could be further from the truth. (没有什么比这更远离事实了。)”直接反驳了前面提到的误解,引出了后面对爱好的正面评价,符合题意。故选D。 【17题详解】 由上文“If we regularly spend time on hobbies, we usually enjoy a higher level of fitness. (如果我们经常花时间在爱好上,我们通常会享受到更高的健康水平。)”及下文“A 2023 comprehensive analysis of multiple studies found strong evidence that engaging in leisure activities can improve health by protecting against heart disease and age-related physical decline. (2023年对多项研究的综合分析发现强有力的证据表明,参与休闲活动可以通过保护心脏疾病和与年龄相关的身体衰退来改善健康。)”可知,这里需要一个句子来支持前一句的观点,即爱好对健康的积极影响,并引出下文对爱好与健康关系的科学研究结果。A选项“The science backs this up. (科学证实了这一点。)”提供了科学研究的支持,能够承上启下,符合题意。故选A。 【18题详解】 由上文“The report, published in the journal Lancet Psychiatry, found that for people who were suffering from a chronic (慢性的) illness, doing a hobby helped them manage their symptoms and even slowed the progression of their illness. But another of the researchers’ findings is perhaps the most striking: the strong relationship between doing leisure activities and increased longevity (长寿). (发表在《柳叶刀·精神病学》杂志上的报告发现,对于患有慢性病的人来说,做爱好有助于他们管理症状,甚至减缓疾病的进展。但研究人员的另一个发现可能更为惊人:从事休闲活动与增加寿命之间的强烈关系。)”及下文“It found that older adults have a 19% lower risk of disease-related death when they engage in regular leisure activities. (它发现,当老年人定期参与休闲活动时,与疾病相关的死亡风险降低了19%。)”可知,这里需要一个句子来进一步说明前一句提到的研究发现,特别是关于休闲活动与长寿的关系,并引出下文另一项关于休闲活动与长寿关系的研究结果。F选项“A different study conducted last year confirmed the impact. (去年进行的另一项研究确认了这种影响。)”提到了另一项研究,指出与前一句相同的发现,能承上启下,符合题意。故选F。 【19题详解】 由下文“They are vital to sustaining our mental health. (它们对维持我们的心理健康至关重要。)”可知,这里需要一个句子来介绍爱好对心理健康的益处。B选项“Hobbies make us happier. (爱好让我们更快乐。)”直接指出了爱好的另一个好处,能够引起下文,符合题意。故选B。 【20题详解】 由上文“On a fundamental level, humans need meaning, something that gives them a sense of purpose. (在基本层面上,人类需要意义,一些能给他们目标感的东西。”)”及下文“Engaging in what you enjoy greatly enhances your well-being. G选项“And being able to pursue your passion really contributes to that. My mother is 92. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance. In Emily White’s hometown, there was a yearly performance in the school hall. It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town’s people. Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field. Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens—her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Emily’s body and said, “Child, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable, It would make them uncomfortable, too.” Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired. This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try. Emily didn’t want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Buttler called, “Emily, you’re next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr. Buttler told her to do. Mr. Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day. Emily couldn’t sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn’t fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress. Paragraph l: The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, the day of performance came. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. She was not rejected this time. Her name was posted at the top of the list. She, Emily White, was chosen to be the leading singer! She would sing alone in the performance. Emily couldn’t believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr. Buttler said to her with determined eyes, “Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part—your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself.” Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard. Finally, the day of performance came. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened up, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!” Someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing her heart out. Her voice was like a nightingale ringing in the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage. C We live in a town with three beaches. David Bond: A Role Model for Children D Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional (情感的) intelligence. Hobbies are more than just a fun way to kill the time.
