It can show whether parents and teenagers eat together, how often they talk, and what they argue about. But a good survey does not happen by accident. It needs careful planning from the very first step. 1________ Once your topic is clear, the rest of the work becomes much easier. Next, design your questionnaire. 2________ Long questionnaires make people tired, and tired people give careless answers. A good questionnaire should be short and friendly. Simple words also matter, because people answer more honestly when they understand every question. Try each question on a friend before you print it. Then it is time to collect your data. 3________ You can also ask your classmates to share the questionnaire online. People are more willing to help when they know the reason. The more people you ask, the more believable your results will be, but always explain why you are collecting their answers. After that, put your numbers in order. 4________ This step turns a pile of answers into something you can actually see. Numbers alone can be hard to read, but a clear chart turns them into a picture that anyone can understand at a glance. Finally, write a short report and share it with your class. 5________ Speak slowly, and give your classmates time to think. Keep your report honest, and do not hide results that you did not expect; those results are often the most interesting part. Following these steps may take a whole week, but the result is worth the effort. You will not only learn about other families — you may also understand your own a little better. And that, perhaps, is the real purpose of the project. A. Collecting the answers of your friends is usually a good start. B. So the first thing you must do is to choose a clear topic. C. Then work out the percentage for each answer. D. Ask five or six questions, and not thirty. E. Do not read every word from your notes; instead, look at your audience. F. A survey is only about money and shopping. G. Parents never like to answer questions from students. 五、阅读理解 (一) A recent survey of 500 middle school students looked at how they communicate with their parents. The results were interesting, and they said something important about modern family life. According to the report, 62 per cent of the students talk with their parents for less than thirty minutes a day. Only 15 per cent said they share their true feelings with their parents every day. When asked why, the largest group — 45 per cent — answered that they were "too busy with study". Another 30 per cent said they simply did not know how to start. The survey also found a clear difference between boys and girls. Girls were more likely than boys to talk about their worries, while boys preferred to keep problems to themselves. This difference may explain why some families find it easier to talk than others. However, both groups agreed on one point: they wished their parents would listen more and judge less. What can families do? The researchers offer three suggestions. First, eat at least one meal a day together without phones. Second, ask open questions such as "What made you happy today?" instead of "Did you finish your homework?" Third, respect each other's silence — not every quiet moment means something is wrong. The report ends with a warm reminder: communication is not built in a day. A few minutes of real talking each day can slowly turn a quiet home into a warm one. Small changes, made patiently, can matter more than one long, serious talk. 1.What percentage of the students talk with their parents for less than thirty minutes a day? A. 15 per cent. B. 30 per cent. C. 45 per cent. D. 62 per cent. 2.What was the main reason students gave for not sharing their true feelings? A. They were too busy with study. B. They were afraid of their parents. C. Their parents never listened. D. They had no topics in common. 3.What did both boys and girls agree on? A. They preferred talking to their friends. B. They wished their parents would listen more and judge less. C. They talked more with their mothers. D. They had no worries at all. 4.Which of the following is one of the researchers' suggestions? A. Ask more about homework. B. Keep phones on the dinner table. C. Eat one meal a day together without phones. D. Talk with parents only at weekends. 5.What is the passage mainly about? A. Why students are too busy to talk. B. A survey on parent-child communication and the advice based on it. C. How to finish homework faster. D. The differences between rich and poor families. (二) Last term, our English teacher gave us a project: find out how family relationships change as children grow up. At first my group was excited, but soon we met trouble. None of us knew where to start, but we were ready to try. Our plan was simple: hand out a questionnaire to 100 students. However, on the first day, only twelve students returned the paper. Most said the questions were too long. We sat down, cut the questionnaire from twenty questions to eight, and tried again. This time, the response was much better. We learned our first lesson that afternoon: ask fewer, better questions. Then came the hard part — the numbers. We put every answer into a chart and were surprised by what we saw. Nearly half of the students said they argued with their parents most about their phones. None of us had expected that. It was the first time we had seen our own classmates in numbers. When we presented our report, our teacher asked a question that we could not answer: "What will you do with your findings?" That night, our group talked for a long time. In the end, we added a page of suggestions — simple ideas like "put the phone away at dinner". It was a small change, but it felt like a real answer to our teacher's question. We did not win the best project prize, but we learned something more useful than a prize. A survey is not just about collecting numbers; it is about understanding people, including ourselves. 6.What was the project about? A. How to use phones wisely. B. How family relationships change as children grow up. C. How to win a project prize. D. How to design a good chart. 7.Why did most students not return the questionnaire on the first day? A. They had no time to fill it in. B. They lost the paper. C. The questions were too long. D. They disliked the teacher. 8.How did the group solve the problem? A. They gave up the project. B. They asked the teacher for the answers. C. They changed to a new topic. D. They cut the questions from twenty to eight. 9.What surprised the group in their results? A. Nearly half argued with their parents mostly about phones. B. No one returned the questionnaire. C. The teacher refused to read their report. D. Parents did not answer any questions. 10.What did the writer learn from the project? A. Winning a prize is everything. B. Making charts is very difficult. C. A survey is about understanding people, not just collecting numbers. D. Teachers should not give students projects. 2.“问卷”,fill in a questionnaire 意为“填写问卷”,指示代词 this 后接可数名词单数,故填 questionnaire。 3.“结果”,the result of... 4.“百分比”,a large percentage of... 7.“准备”,need to do sth 中 to 后接动词原形,prepare sth 意为“准备某事”,故填 prepare。 9.“图表”,不定冠词 a 后接可数名词单数作主语,make sth easier to understand 意为“使某物更易理解”,故填 chart。 10.“回应”,choose to do sth 中 to 后接动词原形,respond to sth 意为“对……作出回应”,故填 respond。 二、词性转化 1.动词 conclude(得出结论)去 -e 加 -sion 构成名词 conclusion,“结论”,如:draw a conclusion(得出结论)。 2.动词 collect(收集)加后缀 -ion 构成名词 collection,“收集、收藏品”,如:a collection of data(数据的收集)。 3. 5.动词 analyse(分析)变名词为 analysis,“分析”,复数形式为 analyses,如:make an analysis of(对…… 6.动词 compare(比较)变名词为 comparison,“比较”,常见搭配 in comparison with(与…… 7.动词 discuss(讨论)加后缀 -ion 构成名词 discussion,“讨论”,如:have a discussion about sth。 8. 9.动词 inform(告知)加后缀 -ation 构成名词 information,“信息”,不可数名词,如:a piece of information。 10. 三、选词填空 1.“报告”,a short report on... 4.“看法”,in my opinion 意为“依我看”,是固定搭配,介词 in 后用名词 opinion,故填 opinion。 5.“目的”,the purpose of... is to do sth 意为“……的目的是做某事”,此处作句子主语,故填名词 purpose。 6.“听众”,look at your audience 意为“看着你的听众”,形容词性物主代词 your 后接名词,故填 audience。 8.“采访”,decide to do sth 中 to 后接动词原形,interview sb 意为“采访某人”,故填动词 interview。 四、七选五 1.B:首段说调查能反映家庭生活,但“a good survey does not happen by accident”,后文“Once your topic is clear”提示要先定主题,B 选项“所以你要做的第一件事就是选定一个明确的主题”与之衔接,故选 B。 3.A:本段讲收集数据,A 选项“从收集你朋友的回答开始通常是个不错的起点”承接“it is time to collect your data”,后文又说可请同学在网上转发,故选 A。 4.C:本段讲整理数字,C 选项“然后算出每个答案所占的百分比”与后文“a clear chart turns them into a picture”构成先后步骤,故选 C。 5.E:本段讲做报告和展示,E 选项“不要照本宣科,而要看着你的听众”与“share it with your class”同属展示建议,故选 E。 五、阅读理解 1.D:第二段“62 per cent of the students talk with their parents for less than thirty minutes a day”与题干“less than thirty minutes a day”对应,故选 D。 2.A:第二段“the largest group — 45 per cent — answered that they were "too busy with study"”说明最主要理由是“学习太忙”,故选 A。 3.B:第三段“both groups agreed on one point: they wished their parents would listen more and judge less”直接给出男女生都认同的一点,故选 B。 4.C:第四段第一条建议“eat at least one meal a day together without phones”与 C 选项“每天一起吃一顿饭且不带手机”一致,故选 C。 6.B:第一段“our English teacher gave us a project: find out how family relationships change as children grow up”直接说明项目主题,故选 B。 7.C:第二段“Most said the questions were too long”说明多数学生未交问卷是因为问题太长,故选 C。 8.D:第二段“We sat down, cut the questionnaire from twenty questions to eight, and tried again”说明他们把小组成绩问题的数量从二十个减到八个,故选 D。 9.A:第三段“Nearly half of the students said they argued with their parents most about their phones”说明让他们意外的是“近半数学生因手机和父母争吵”,故选 A。 10.C:末段“A survey is not just about collecting numbers; it is about understanding people, including ourselves”点明作者学到的道理,故选 C。
