Unit 3 Work and play
Part A Let’s learn 第二课(教学设计)
I. Teaching Objectives
1、By the end of the lesson, most students can listen, say and read the five school days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and the school subjects (Chinese, maths, English, music, PE, art, science, IT).
2、Students can ask and answer about their school week: "What's your favourite day at school? It's ..." and "What do you have on ...? I have ...".
3、Students can do a short group survey about favourite days and report simple results, e.g. "There are four people in my group. Two people like Fridays."
II. Key Points and Difficult Points
1、Key points: the words for the five weekdays and the school subjects; the two question-and-answer sentences above.
2、Difficult points: the silent letter and the -s in "Wednesday / on Wednesdays"; choosing the right preposition "on" before days, and telling which days are busy (work) and which are fun (play).
III. Teaching Tools
A big class-timetable card, weekday and subject flashcards, our real school timetable, and a simple survey sheet drawn on the board.
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in (4 mins)
1、We clap and chant the days of the week together, then I ask, "Which day do you like best?" and take a handful of quick answers with no correction at this stage.
[Purpose] Wake up the old words and get every child talking from the first minute.
Step 2 Presentation (10 mins)
1、I put the big timetable on the board and read Binbin's lines slowly: "He has music class on Wednesday and Thursday mornings." I hold up each subject card as I say it.
2、For the hard word I hum the first sound — "Wed… (nesday)" — and point out the silent d and the -s in "on Wednesdays". We clap the syllables twice.
[Purpose] Put the new words into a real timetable so children see the meaning, not just the sound.
Step 3 Practice (10 mins)
1、Chain drill: I ask the first student "What do you have on Mondays?", the answer is passed along the row. Then pairs open their books and ask each other about the timetable.
2、I walk around and only fix mistakes that change the meaning — a wrong "on" or a missing -s gets a quick recast, then we move on.
[Purpose] Give everyone several tries at the two key sentences before we go free.
Step 4 Do a survey (10 mins)
1、In groups of four, students ask "What's your favourite day at school?" and fill the sheet: Name / Favourite day / Subject and activity.
2、Each group reports with one line: "There are four people in my group. Two people like Fridays." I praise one specific word choice, not a vague "good job".
[Purpose] Let the language do real work — asking, writing and reporting — and link back to the unit idea of work and play.
Step 5 Summary and homework (6 mins)
1、We point to the board and say the five days and four subjects once more together, and answer the big question: what does our week look like?
2、Homework: copy your own real timetable and mark your favourite day; for stronger students, write two sentences about why you like it.
[Purpose] Close the loop on the board and leave a task that everyone can finish at home.
V. Board Design
Centre: the big question "What's your favourite day at school?"
Left column: the five weekday cards (Mon–Fri). Right column: subject cards (Chinese / maths / English / music / PE / art / science / IT).
Language box: What do you have on ...? I have ... and ... on ... mornings / afternoons.
六、教学反思
这节课用真实课程表来带星期和科目,孩子比单念单词积极,链操环节后排也能跟上来,哑音 d 和 on Wednesdays 的复数带读两遍后大部分孩子能读对,目标基本达成。
但调查环节收得有点急,只来得及三个组汇报,有孩子把 art、music 和 work、play 混着说,下节课该先画一张 work/play 对照图再让他们说;survey 表最好先板书给一句示范,免得照抄同桌。
