The Role of Music in My Life
Music has always been an important part of my life. I enjoy listening to pop music because it makes me energetic and helps me stay positive. Whenever I feel stressed or upset, the soft melodies that I listen to every day help me relax. Music also inspires my creativity, especially when I'm studying or working on school projects.
One of my favourite memories is performing a guitar solo at my school's talent show. That experience taught me the power of music can bring people together and create unforgettable moments. Music truly enriches my life in many ways.

Jacob Mitchell, also known as MC Grammar, is not a typical teacher. He teaches primary school students and is also a rapper(说唱歌手)and writer. He uses music to make learning fun!
Mitchell’s story began with a love-hate relationship with school. As a child, he enjoyed primary school, but everything changed when he entered secondary school. Bored by traditional lessons, he lost interest in studying and left school at 16. However, life soon taught him an important lesson. When he decided to return to education, he had trouble remembering facts for exams. That’s when he had a creative idea: turning study notes into rap songs. To his surprise, rhythm helped him remember information easily.
After becoming a teacher, Mitchell brought his rapping method into the classroom. Instead of boring grammar exercises, his students learned through catchy songs. For example, they rapped about verbs while clapping hands, or practised sentence structures with dance moves. Other teachers noticed his success and invited him to share his methods. His big break came when a video of him rapping the children’s book The Gruffalo went viral online. Overnight, millions of people watched his creative lessons.
Today, MC Grammar performs at schools and music festivals, teaching thousands of fans. “Rap is like storytelling with rhythm,” he explains. “But grammar is the tool that helps us share ideas clearly.” He also calls books “magic boxes” because they let readers explore new worlds.
Mitchell’s journey wasn’t always easy. He advises students who are less confident: “Find what you love and work hard. Don’t fear mistakes — even my first rap videos were terrible! Belief in yourself builds confidence step by step.”
From a failing student to an amazing teacher-artist, MC Grammar shows that creativity matters a lot. His raps stick in his students’ heads after they learn grammar this way. As one of his students said…

When I was in primary school, music class was my least favourite. I could sing the words correctly, but something was always wrong. My classmates would move to the beat while I stood there, stiff and uncomfortable. "You're not feeling the rhythm," my music teacher Mrs Wang would say gently. I didn't understand what she meant. Rhythm was just a word in the textbook to me.
Everything changed one Thursday afternoon. Mrs Wang brought a set of simple drums to class. "Today, we won't sing," she announced. "We will feel the music." She played a steady beat on her drum and asked us to close our eyes. "Forget about getting it right. Just let your body respond." At first, I was nervous, but slowly something amazing happened. My hands started tapping on the desk. My foot began to move. For the first time, I wasn't thinking about the beat — I was feeling it inside me.
After that day, music became a different world for me. I joined the school band and learned to play the tambourine(铃鼓). Mrs Wang always encouraged me, saying, "Everyone has a rhythm inside. You just need to find your own." She showed me that music isn't about being perfect; it's about expressing what words cannot say. The steady beat of the drum became my friend, and I looked forward to every music class.
Years later, I still remember that Thursday afternoon. Now I play the guitar in a small band with my friends. When we perform, I see some people in the audience sitting stiffly, and I smile. I want to tell them my story — how one teacher's patience helped me find my rhythm. Music has taught me that sometimes we need to stop trying so hard and just let ourselves feel. The rhythm is always there, waiting to be discovered.

Li Bai is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets in Chinese history. When I was a child, my grandfather often told me stories about him. One summer, I stayed with my grandparents in a quiet town. One evening, as the moon rose over the mountains, my grandfather sat with me in the yard. He began to recite Li Bai's famous poem Quiet Night Thought: "Before my bed, the moonlight is so bright; it looks like frost upon the ground..."
At first, I simply listened without much thought. But then something struck me. The words were simple, yet they painted a clear picture. The rhythm of the poem flowed like water. I closed my eyes and imagined the poet standing alone, looking up at the moon, thinking of home. It was as if I could feel his loneliness and longing. That moment opened my heart to the beauty of Chinese poetry.
After that night, I started to read more of Li Bai's works. I learned that he was not just a poet, but a traveller, a dreamer, and a man who loved nature. He wrote about rivers, mountains, friendship, and wine. His words were powerful because they came from deep feelings. I realized that poetry is not just words on paper — it is a way to share emotions across time.
Later, I joined a poetry club at school. We read ancient poems and even tried to write our own. My teacher told me that Li Bai's genius lay in his ability to express common feelings in beautiful language. I practised reciting poems aloud, learning to feel the rhythm and emotion behind each line. This helped me understand not only poetry but also life itself.
Now, I believe that poetry is a bridge connecting us to the past. It allows us to share the joys and sorrows of those who lived long ago. Whether it is Li Bai's moonlight or a song of friendship, poetry reminds us that we are never truly alone. I am grateful for that summer evening when I first truly listened.
