Artificial intelligence (AI)has demonstrated competence across various sectors, but matching human creativity
:
remains hard to achieve. However, companies like Story Fit are using Al in a much more novel way, particularly in the

film industry, where it is revolutionizing how scripts are developed, and stories are told.
Initially,Monica Landers, founder and CEO of StoryFit,used AI technology to aid publishers in narrowing down
:
their“slush piles'”(未处理的文稿)to a shortlist of promising books..However,.StoryFit found the publishing
:
industry's growth potential insufficient and targeted the film industry instead.Consequently,it has become the force

behind several successful films in recent years.
Primarily,StoryFit analyzes a script's (marketability, assessing where a story fits with the audience and
how each storytelling element resonates().The film industry is high-risk,with considerable investments
required before generating returns.Story Fit provides data on whether those risks are likely to be fruitful.StoryFit's AI
technology checks character traits (to evaluate audience responses, determining how heroic or relatable a main

character might be.This information allows creative professionals to identify potential character imbalances.

Beyond marketability,StoryFit also analyzes audience connections to the storyline, offering insights into aspects
such as the audience's emotional journey throughout an episode or the impact of a favorite character's departure. The
company also reports on plot inconsistencies, such as characters behaving inconsistently with their established traits
or disappearing from the storyline.Nevertheless,Landers emphasizes that their role is to draw insights from the data
rather than comment on the script. She stated,"You have people whose whole careers are based on making those
decisions. But we can be a technology voice that helps them to shine a light on what's happening or not happening in
the script.”
Using AI technology like StoryFit in the film industry demonstrates artificial intelligence's potential to enhance
storytelling. As the technology advances, its impact on the film industry will only grow, paving the way for more
engaging and resonant cmnematic experiences.
27.What caused Story Fit to shift its focus from publishing to films?
A.The financial difficulties

In the USA,youth curfews (are traditionally issued by a parent in the interest of safety. This type of curfew
is personal, and rightfully so.However,to stop teenagers committing crimes, some officials have turnedyouth curfews
from family decisions into public laws.
The idea may have been thought to have good intentions. In practice, however, these policies have been shown
to be unfair and unconstitutional, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).In the town of Sumner,
Washington,a father allowed his fourteen-year-old son to go to a convenience store after 11:00 p.m.Sumner had
adopted a curfew law that prohibited people under the age of eighteen from being in public places past that hour. The
father was fined, and then he pursued a legal challenge against the town. The ACLU,which filed the case on behalf of
the father, claimed the curfew laws had violated (parents'rights. In the end,Sumner's curfew laws were struck

down.
But isn't it irresponsible not to enforce a curfew on teenagers?Curfew laws supporters argue that officials should
provide a curfew to ensure teens are home by a reasonable hour. The risk of a serious accident is three times as high
for drivers aged sixteen to nineteen as for drivers over twenty. And dangers only increase at night. This indicates to
some that a law keeping teens off the road late at night is a positive safety measure.Still, the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA)says that the best ways for drivers to increase safety are by obeying the speed limit,
wearing a seat belt, and pay ing attention. The NHTSA makes no mention of youth curfews making driving safer.
In cities, curfew enforcement has been ineffective or even had a negative impact on communities. Most crimes
committed by teens actually happen around 3:00 p.m.,right after school. On non-school days, that time shifts to
between 7:00 p.m.and 9:00 p.m.The curfew hours,usually between 10:00 p.m.and 6:00 a.m.,occur at a time of day
when teenage crime is at its lowest.Meanwhile, violent crime rates peak around 10:00 p.m.for adults. When law
enforcement performs the teen curfew sweep, policemen are distracted from the more serious violent crimes being
committed by adults at that time. Also troubling is the racial discrimination in cities with curfews. For example, recent
data have found that in Minneapolis,Minnesota,56%ofyouths charged with breaking curfews were african American.
Other law enforcement department reports show similar problems.Curfew laws are criticized because they are
enforced in a racially discriminatory way.
The ACLU has succeeded in striking down at least one curfew law because of concems over parental rights.
Along with other community and civil rights groups,it continues to pursue other cases, arguing that curfew law
enforcement can only increase tension and crime. To arrest teens for driving home from the movies, playing basketball
in the park,or simply walking their dog is to punish them for being outside their homes-a policy inconsistent with
the individual rights established in the U.S.Constitution.
31.What is the authors attitude towards legal curfews for teenagers?
A.Supportive
B.Disapproving.
C.Uncertain
D.Indifferent
32.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.Reasonable curfew hours for teenagers.
B.The necessity of enforcing youth curfews.
C.Unwanted consequences of youth curfews.
D.The impact of youth curfews on adult crimes.
33.What can be inferred about the ACLU from the passage?
A.It helps people defend their individual rights.
B.It is in favour of enforcing a curfew on teenagers.
C.It stresses the responsibilities of parents to their children.
D.It believes youth curfews are highly related to road safety.

34.From the passage we can learn that
A.teenagers in the United States love their independence
B.enforcing youth curfews will lead to distrust of the policemen

Since the beginning of human evolution, people have connected with others in order to survive. This desire to

Another groundbreaking research about belonging emerged in 1995.Mark Leary and Roy Baumeister found that
humans have a universal drive to belong, which motivates their thoughts and actions. In fact, this drive is so important
that they argued it was a fundamental human need-not a secondary need in a hierarchy.Their later research explored

Craig Foster, bare-chested, was diving in bitterly cold waters off the southern-most tip of Africa when he saw her--an octopus hiding under a coat of shells and stones.
Deeply attracted, he began following this incredibly shy creature. He kept coming back every day to the same place where he first met her, trying to stay very still in her presence. For weeks she refused him: hiding in her home, or pushing her liquid body into the nearest crack to escape. And then, after Foster's dogged persistence for 26 days, she reached out and touched him.
In the documentary "My Octopus Teacher", this tender moment moves you in a way you never thought an octopus tentacle(触手)wrapped around a human hand could. The nature documentary won Best Feature at the EarthxFilm Festival 2020.
"If you gain the trust of that animal over a period of months, it will actually ignore you to a certain degree and carry on with its normal life, and allow you to step inside its secret world," Foster says in his documentary.
We see her outsmarting a shark by riding on its back, growing a new tentacle after surviving a shark attack, and finally wasting away after laying her eggs."The octopus showed me many behaviors that were completely new to science," Foster says.
After years of filming some of the planet’s most dangerous animals, Foster was burnt out, depressed, and disconnected."I was struggling. My only way to heal felt like I needed to be in the ocean, my go-to happy place as a child," he says.
Completely involving himself in the underwater world has calmed his mind.Over the years other animals have reached out to make contact, including dolphins, whales and even sharks."But nothing has compared to this 'once-in-a-lifetime' bond with the octopus," Foster says.
The octopus changed Foster's life forever.Foster says the octopus taught him that humans are part of the natural world, and not simply visitors."Your own role and place in the natural world is the most precious gift we humans have received," he says.
24. Foster followed the octopus with _______________.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has demonstrated competence across various sectors, but matching human creativity remains hard to achieve. However, companies like StoryFit are using AI in a much more novel way, particularly in the film industry, where it is revolutionizing how scripts are developed, and stories are told.
Initially, Monica Landers, founder and CEO of StoryFit, used AI technology to aid publishers in narrowing down their “slush piles” (未处理的文稿) to a shortlist of promising books. However, StoryFit found the publishing industry’s growth potential insufficient and targeted the film industry instead. Consequently, it has become the force behind several successful films in recent years.
Primarily, StoryFit analyzes a script’s (剧本) marketability, assessing where a story fits with the audience and how each storytelling element resonates (引起共鸣). The film industry is high-risk, with considerable investments required before generating returns. StoryFit provides data on whether those risks are likely to be fruitful. StoryFit’s AI technology checks character traits (特征) to evaluate audience responses, determining how heroic or relatable a main character might be. This information allows creative professionals to identify potential character imbalances.
Beyond marketability, StoryFit also analyzes audience connections to the storyline, offering insights into aspects such as the audience’s emotional journey throughout an episode or the impact of a favorite character’s departure. The company also reports on plot inconsistencies, such as characters behaving inconsistently with their established traits or disappearing from the storyline. Nevertheless, Landers emphasizes that their role is to draw insights from the data rather than comment on the script. She stated, “You have people whose whole careers are based on making those decisions. But we can be a technology voice that helps them to shine a light on what’s happening or not happening in the script.”
Using AI technology like StoryFit in the film industry demonstrates artificial intelligence’s potential to enhance storytelling. As the technology advances, its impact on the film industry will only grow, paving the way for more engaging and resonant cinematic experiences.
27. What caused StoryFit to shift its focus from publishing to films?
A. The financial difficulties. B. The limited growth prospect.
C. The decreasing customer base. D. The insufficient AI competence.
28. What is StoryFit able to do according to Paragraph 3?
A. rewrite scripts for a wider audience. B. Determine the amount of investment.
C. Evaluate scripts’ potential for success. D. Facilitate the process of screen writing.
29. According to Landers, what is StoryFit’s role in script analysis?
A A data-driven advisor. B. A decision-maker.
C. A marketing specialist. D. A content developer.
30. What is the author’s attitude toward the application of AI in the film industry?
A. Unclear. B. Concerned. C. Objective. D. Supportive.

In the USA, youth curfews (宵禁) are traditionally issued by a parent in the interest of safety. This type of curfew is personal, and rightfully so. However, to stop teenagers committing crimes, some officials have turned youth curfews from family decisions into public laws.
The idea may have been thought to have good intentions. In practice, however, these policies have been shown to be unfair and unconstitutional, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). In the town of Sumner, Washington, a father allowed his fourteen-year-old son to go to a convenience store after 11:00 p.m. Sumner had adopted a curfew law that prohibited people under the age of eighteen from being in public places past that hour. The father was fined, and then he pursued a legal challenge against the town. The ACLU, which filed the case on behalf of the father, claimed the curfew laws had violated (侵犯) parents' rights. In the end, Sumner's curfew laws were struck down.
But isn't it irresponsible not to enforce a curfew on teenagers? Curfew laws supporters argue that officials should provide a curfew to ensure teens are home by a reasonable hour. The risk of a serious accident is three times as high for drivers aged sixteen to nineteen as for drivers over twenty. And dangers only increase at night. This indicates to some that a law keeping teens off the road late at night is a positive safety measure. Still, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that the best ways for drivers to increase safety are by obeying the speed limit, wearing a seat belt, and paying attention. The NHTSA makes no mention of youth curfews making driving safer.
In cities, curfew enforcement has been ineffective or even had a negative impact on communities. Most crimes committed by teens actually happen around 3:00 p.m., right after school. On non-school days, that time shifts to between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The curfew hours, usually between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., occur at a time of day when teenage crime is at its lowest. Meanwhile, violent crime rates peak around 10:00 p.m. for adults. When law enforcement performs the teen curfew sweep, policemen are distracted from the more serious violent crimes being committed by adults at that time. Also troubling is the racial discrimination in cities with curfews. For example, recent data have found that in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 56% of youths charged with breaking curfews were African American. Other law enforcement department reports show similar problems. Curfew laws are criticized because they are enforced in a racially discriminatory way.
The ACLU has succeeded in striking down at least one curfew law because of concerns over parental rights. Along with other community and civil rights groups, it continues to pursue other cases, arguing that curfew law enforcement can only increase tension and crime. To arrest teens for driving home from the movies, playing basketball in the park, or simply walking their dog is to punish them for being outside their homes—a policy inconsistent with the individual rights established in the U. S. Constitution.
31. What is the authors attitude towards legal curfews for teenagers?
A. Supportive. B. Disapproving. C. Uncertain. D. Indifferent.
32. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Reasonable curfew hours for teenagers. B. The necessity of enforcing youth curfews.
C. Unwanted consequences of youth curfews. D. The impact of youth curfews on adult crimes.
33. What can be inferred about the ACLU from the passage?
A. It helps people defend their individual rights.
B. It is in favour of enforcing a curfew on teenagers.
C. It stresses the responsibilities of parents to their children.
D. It believes youth curfews are highly related to road safety.
34. From the passage we can learn that ______.
A. teenagers in the United States love their independence
B. enforcing youth curfews will lead to distrust of the policemen
C legal curfews should exist only when parents are irresponsible
D. legal curfews violate individual liberties and may be cancelled
【参考答案】
31. B 32. C 33. A 34. D

(新语境)When you spend time with close friends, how do you feel? You may feel like you belong. According to the Oxford Dictionary, belonging is defined as a “deep sense of acceptance, inclusion, and identification within a group, place, or context.” ____35____
Since the beginning of human evolution, people have connected with others in order to survive. This desire to form and grow relationships is rooted in the human brain. ____36____ In 1943, Abraham Maslow was the first psychologist to write about belonging as a human need. His theory, the Hierarchy (等级) of Needs, states that humans must acquire their basic needs, such as physiological (生理上的) needs and needs related to safety, before they can begin fulfilling other higher, more complex needs, like belonging or developing self-esteem.
Another groundbreaking research about belonging emerged in 1995. Mark Leary and Roy Baumeister found that humans have a universal drive to belong, which motivates their thoughts and actions. In fact, this drive is so important that they argued it was a fundamental human need-not a secondary need in a hierarchy. Their later research explored the connection between self-esteem and belonging. According to their research, self-esteem is not just about how people feel about themselves internally. ____37____
Although feeling connected to people is important in many settings, it becomes especially critical in schools. A 2020 research analysis found that students who do not feel a sense of belonging at school are often searching for threats in their environment that signal whether they are welcome or not. ____38____ This, in turn, can cause poorer academic performance. It can also discourage students from forming deeper relationships. So, a student’s feeling of belonging is vital for their learning.
____39____ Researchers will continue to analyze how personality, culture, and even social media shape how connected we feel to others. With this knowledge, people can create schools and communities where more people feel included. That way, we can develop a society that is overall healthier, happier, and more connected.
A. They may do things to increase their self-esteem.
B. This stress can use up cognitive resources needed for learning.
C. Belonging is a complex thing because it is influenced by many factors.
D. Over the years, researchers have been exploring this subjective feeling.
E. Feeling like you belong can actually improve many aspects of your life.
F. It actually serves as a warning signal that measures how much people feel accepted.
G. When you see yourself well suited to a specific environment, you feel valued and respected.

阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
(新语境)Do you feel constantly tired? Do you have difficulty concentrating on the task at hand? Do you often struggle to fall asleep at night and frequently wake up? For many of us, feeling mentally drained can be an all too familiar experience.
Mental drain, also known as mental exhaustion or burnout, is a state of extreme tiredness that affects our cognitive and emotional well-being. It’s like running on empty, with our mental energy reserves tapped out. Mentally draining activities can leave us feeling fatigued, unfocused, and unable to perform at our best. In today’s fast-paced world, where people put more stresses on productivity, mental drain has become increasingly common.
Mental drain occurs due to long periods of stress, heavy workload, or even too much information. Take the overwhelming workload for example. It is one of the primary causes behind mental drain. Balancing multiple responsibilities, deadlines, and demands can leave us feeling stretched thin and mentally exhausted. Another contributor is information overload. The constant flow of information from sources like social media and news apps puts additional strain on our brains.
The effects of mental exhaustion can show in various ways. We may find ourselves easily distracted or forgetful, struggling to concentrate on tasks that would normally be easy for us. Our decision-making abilities may also suffer as a result. Additionally, mental drain can impact our emotional well-being, leaving us increasingly annoyed and moody.
Recognizing the signs of being mentally drained is crucial in order to take appropriate steps toward refilling our mental energy and finding balance once again. Feeling mentally drained can be a common experience in our fast-paced and demanding lives, but there are many practical approaches that can help.
40. What is mental drain?

43. In what way(s) can you deal with mental drain effectively?
________________________________________________________________________________
【参考答案】
40. It is a state of extreme tiredness that affects our cognitive and emotional well-being.
41. Due to long periods of stress, heavy workload, or even too much information.
42. By improving our decision-making abilities, we are likely to take proper action to regain mental energy and restore balance.
To take proper action to regain mental energy and restore balance, we need to recognize the signs of being mentally drained.
43. We can schedule short, regular breaks throughout our day where we completely disengage from work. These breaks allow our brain to reset and prevent cognitive overload. Activities that combine movement with creativity, like dance, painting, or playing a musical instrument, can be helpful too.
【语篇解读】
本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了精神内耗由压力、工作量和信息过载引发,表现为注意力下降和情绪波动,并强调及早识别对恢复精神健康的重要性。
【详情解析】
40. 节理解题。根据第二段中“Mental drain, also known as mental exhaustion or burnout, is a state of extreme tiredness that affects our cognitive and emotional well-being. (精神内耗,也被称为精神疲惫或倦怠,是一种极度疲劳的状态,会影响我们的认知和情绪健康。)”可知,精神内耗是一种极度疲劳的状态,会影响我们的认知和情绪健康。故答案为:It is a state of extreme tiredness that affects our cognitive and emotional well-being.
41. 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Mental drain occurs due to long periods of stress, heavy workload, or even too much information. (长时间的压力,繁重的工作,甚至是太多的信息,都会导致精神枯竭。)”可知,我们遭受精神内耗的原因包括长时间的压力,繁重的工作,甚至是太多的信息。故答案为:Due to long periods of stress, heavy workload, or even too much information.
42. 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Recognizing the signs of being mentally drained is crucial in order to take appropriate steps toward refilling our mental energy and finding balance once again. (为了采取适当的步骤来补充我们的精神能量并再次找到平衡,认识到精神枯竭的迹象是至关重要的。)”可知,能让我们采取适当的行动来恢复精神能量并恢复平衡的方法是“认识到精神枯竭的迹象”,而非“提高决策能力”。故答案为:By improving our decision-making abilities, we are likely to take proper action to regain mental energy and restore balance. To take proper action to regain mental energy and restore balance, we need to recognize the signs of being mentally drained.
We can schedule short, regular breaks throughout our day where we completely disengage from work. These breaks allow our brain to reset and prevent cognitive overload. Activities that combine movement with creativity, like dance, painting, or playing a musical instrument, can be helpful too.

A. great patience B. a professional goal
C. scientific curiosity D. an adventurous spirit
25. According to "My Octopus Teacher", the octopus _______________.
A. enjoyed Foster's attention B. taught Foster surviving skills
C. placed trust in Foster gradually D. benefited from Foster's company
26. What did Foster learn from the experience?
A. The natural world offers many gifts. B. Humans belong to the natural world.
C. The natural world never fails to impress. D. Humans should protect the natural world.

A. great patience B. a professional goal
C. scientific curiosity D. an adventurous spirit
