Every summer vacation, there was a big yard with an old tree. My grandpa made a wooden swing for me under the tree. I still remember the feeling of swinging high and laugh as the wind blue through my hair. Every morning, grandpa took me to the river to fish. He was very patient and always told me how to throw out the net. Sometimes we caught nothing, but he would say, IT doesn't matter. The joy is in trying. On our way back, we often stopped to buy fresh tofu from an old woman, and grandpa always let me Carry the bag. Grandma was good at cooking. SHE always made delicious noodles for us. I loved to sit in the kitchen and watch her cook. SHE always gave me the first ball and smiled, saying, eat more because you are growing to show her love. In the evenings, we SAT under the stars, and grandma told me stories about her past. Those days were simple but full of warmth. There was no T, V or a smart phone, but I never felt bored. Now my grandparents are older and I am busy with my study. I miss those happy moments deeply. They taught me that love was not about big things, but about small, everyday kindness. You must visit Pingyao Ancient City. It is an old walled town from the Ming and Qing dynasties. You can walk on the walls. You can also wear ancient clothes and take photos. It’s quite an unusual experience!

If you like nature, go to Mount Wutai. It is one of the four holy Buddhist (佛教的) mountains in China, with quiet temples and green hills. In summer, it is cool there, so it is very comfortable for a trip.

The food is great! Try knife-cut noodles—they are thick and soft in hot soup. And Shanxi is famous for its aged vinegar (老陈醋), which is dark and tasty. People put it on many dishes. Yummy!

Less than twenty years ago, a huge earthquake hit Wenchuan in Sichuan. The shaking was so strong that it destroyed many houses in Hanzhong, Shaanxi, where two-year-old Chen Xinyu lived with his family. Their home fell down, and his family covered him with their own bodies. Soon after, soldiers arrived and dug the little boy and his family out. That day changed his life forever.
As Chen grew older, his father often told him the story of those soldiers. “I was too young to remember clearly,” Chen says, “but in my dreams, I often see those green uniforms.” Those moments planted a strong wish in his heart—he wanted to become a soldier, too.
In the summer of 2023, when Chen was walking in a park in Jiangyin, where his family lived, he saw a child trapped under a heavy stone. The child was bleeding badly. Without thinking twice, Chen rushed over and saved the child.
When the military recruitment (军队入伍) opened last spring, Chen immediately signed up. He passed the physical check and background review without any problem. When asked where he wished to serve, he answered happily, “Please send me to the farthest and hardest border area. I want to follow the steps of my heroes and protect our country.”
On the night before he left, the army organized a film show for the new soldiers. They watched a documentary called Wenchuan: Reborn. Everyone needs role models in life. A role model always sets a good example to others. Role models can be famous people, like scientists or sports stars. But some common people around us, such as parents, teachers and friends, can also be role models. No matter who they are, role models have a great influence on our thoughts and actions.
First, role models can inspire us to work harder. When we see someone achieve success through effort, we believe we can do the same. For example, if we know a scientist who grew up in a poor family but never gave up, we may feel more confident about our own future. This kind of inspiration pushes us to set higher goals.
Second, role models help us tell right from wrong. Children often copy what their parents or teachers do. If adults are honest and kind, children learn to be honest and kind, too. In this way, role models shape our values and habits without us even realizing it.
Third, role models give us direction in difficult times. When we face problems, we may ask ourselves, “What would my role model do in this situation?” This question can guide us to make better choices and stay on the right path.
In a word, role models are like lights in the dark. They show us the way forward and remind us of what we can become. Let us learn from the best and, one day, we may be good role models for others.
44. What is a role model according to the text?
A. A famous person that everyone knows.
B. Someone who is perfect in everything.
C. Someone who sets a good example to us.
45. How do role models affect us in telling right from wrong?
A. By punishing us when we make mistakes.
B. By always supporting us whatever we do.
C. By teaching us through their own behaviors.
46. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Role models shape our values and habits quietly.
B. Kids always copy everything their parents say.
C. Honest adults will never make mistakes in life.
47. Why is the question in Paragraph 4 helpful to us?
A. Because it could give us direction.
B. Because our heroes also face such problems.
C. Because we can learn faster by asking questions.
48. What is the writer’s purpose in writing this text?
A. To tell the difficulties we may face.
B. To explain how role models influence us.
C. To advise us to learn from our role models.

The Spring Festival is one of the most important holidays in China. Over the past decades (几十年), celebrations have changed greatly. From home cooked dinners to restaurant meals, from watching TV to playing on phones, from family gathering to travelling during the holiday, many traditions have taken new forms.
In the Past (1980s-1990s)
Now
Reunion dinner
Cooked at home by the whole family
Often booked at restaurants
New Year’s Eve
Watched the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on TV together
Watch programs on smartphones or watch short videos
Travel
Most people stayed in their hometown
Many families travel during the holiday; “Spring Festival travel rush” is even busier
Why have things changed?
The Spring Festival is still the most important holiday for Chinese people, but the way we celebrate has changed greatly. In the past, people had fewer choices, so the TV Gala was the main event. Today, with smartphones and the internet, everyone can choose their own fun. Also, eating out during the festival has become popular because it saves time and effort. As for travel, the change is also big. In the past, most people stayed in their hometown because transport was slow and expensive. Now, thanks to the rapid development of high-speed railways and highways, travelling is much faster and more affordable (付得起的).
@ Steven Lee:
I grew up in the 1990s and I really miss the old days—the loud firecrackers, the smell of dumplings , the laughter of family members. It was so warm and lively. But now, I also enjoy the new ways. I think change is natural. What matters most is that we are still together as a family, no matter where we are or how we celebrate.
54. How did people in the past prepare reunion dinner?
________________
55. What do people now do on New Year’s Eve?
________________
56. Why do many people choose to travel during the Spring Festival?
________________
57. What does Steven Lee think of the change of Spring Festival celebration?
________________
58. Do you prefer the old way of celebrating or the new one? Why?

【答案】One Possible Version:
My Idol Changed Me
My idol is my English teacher. I was very shy before and didn’t dare to speak English in public. Every time our teacher asked us to speak in class, I always lowered my head and hid behind my books.
One day, she asked me to take part in an English speech competition. I refused at once. She told me that practice could make perfect and spent free time helping me practise every day. She always cheered me up when I felt nervous. Finally, I finished the speech smoothly and got a small prize.
Now I am brave enough to share my ideas in class. I’ve learned that we should be confident and never be afraid of trying new things.
