Hi, everyone!
China is a country with a long history, whose people have created splendid and brilliant traditional culture over thousands of years. Among these various cultural treasures, I would like to share a small but smart part of Chinese culture — chopsticks with you.
As we all know, chopsticks are the most widely used dining tool in China, which are usually made of wood or bamboo, simple and useful. Plain and simple as their appearance are, they are extremely practical and have been serving Chinese families for thousands of years. Behind these two little sticks hides profound wisdom. Initially, what is worth mentioning is that a single stick can hardly hold food. Therefore, only when two sticks work closely together can we grab food with ease. Meanwhile, skillfully using chopsticks also demands good cooperation of our fingers. It is through the use of chopsticks that I realize that unity creates strength.
Chopsticks are tiny but meaningful symbols. Let’s discover and feel the charm of Chinese traditional culture from this common daily object.
Thanks for listening!

However, I was assigned to pair up with Alex to design a poster. Reluctantly, we started working together. I was worried that working with Alex would be very difficult because of our previous relationship. But to my surprise, as the work progressed, we found that we shared many common interests. We put a lot of efforts into the drawings and texts, and finally we completed a quite outstanding poster. Alex seemed to forgive me. He appreciated my efforts and began to care about my feelings. The teacher highly praised our work and our classmates were amazed at the picture on the poster.
Alex proudly introduced that the fantastic picture was drawn by me. I smiled shyly but happily as my classmates crowned me and gave me a thumbs-up. Slowly but surely, I started feeling more comfortable in my new school. I made new friends, including Alex, and began to participate in activities in and after classes. By the end of the school year, I had fully adapted to the new environment. Moving to a new town was not only challenging, but it also opened up a world of opportunities and new experiences for me.

第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
The Future of Clean Energy in Homes
Heating, cooling and powering homes contribute significantly to global CO2 emissions. As nations strive to reduce their carbon footprints, residential energy use— responsible for nearly 20% of energy-related emissions— poses unique challenges. Below is the 2022 breakdown of household emissions by source.
ELECTRICITY 52%
HEATING 28%
COOLING 12%
APPLIANCES 6%
LIGHTING 2%
Clean energy solutions for homes must be affordable, efficient, and adaptable to diverse climates. While technologies vary, here are key innovations driving the shift toward sustainability. HEAT PUMPS - Efficient Heating/Cooling
Replacing gas boilers, electric heat pumps transfer warmth from air or ground, cutting heating emissions by 50%. Hybrid models, hopefully, might be able to work in sub-zero temperatures in the near future.
SMART GRIDS(电网)- Dynamic Electricity Management
Al-powered grids optimize energy use, storing surplus solar power during peak hours and reducing reliance on fossil-fuel backups.
SOLAR PANELS - Rooftop Revolution
Solar energy is the most accessible renewable source for households. Advances in photovoltaic cells have cut costs by 80% since2010,making them viable in numerous regions. WIND TURBINES - Community Microgrids
Small-scale turbines(涡轮机) in windy areas can power neighborhoods, though land use debates persist.
"The scale of this transition is staggering," says Dr. Elena Torres, a climate scientist at MIT. "Residential renewables like solar and heat pumps could meet 90% of global household demand by 2050 but only if investments triple within this decade." Recent studies show that every $1 invested in green homes today saves $5 in future climate adaptation costs. This isn't just an environmental imperative; it's economically inevitable
21. Which two categories combined account for over three-quarters of total household emissions?
A. Electricity and Heating. B. Heating and Cooling.
C. Appliances and Lighting D. Cooling and Appliances.
22. Which technology is highlighted as cost-effective for diverse climates?
A. Heat pumps. B. Smart grids C. Solar panels. D. Wind turbines.
23. What does Dr. Torres emphasize about the energy transition?
A. The dominance of gas boilers. B. The increase in solar efficiency.
C. The need for higher investment D. The breakthrough in heat pump technology.
B
Many of us suffer from a wish to be special. We usually assume that a special person is a better person and a special life is a better life. However, my experience has helped me to understand the high cost I have paid to be special: the extra time spent trying to impress others, the meals I was too tired to cook but I still cooked, the newspaper column that I just couldn't stop working with...
I' ve been thinking about the cost a lot since becoming a mother. I know it is very natural to want our children to feel special, perhaps more special than others, so they can develop self-confidence. But I don't think real self-confidence comes from being raised above others. It should come from being themselves and feeling loved for that in an ordinary way. It is not believing that they are the best and trying to be that. It is understanding that they have value for being them. It is very easy to give our children the impression that to be special, they need to try to be somebody else.
Perhaps the most valuable gift we can give them is the permission to be ordinary. Trying to be special or to live a special life can in reality take them further and further away from better ones. It can also lead them to lose sight of the precious moments of the life they are actually living.
Since I have become aware of this, I start to enjoy cooking simpler meals. I also feel much more freedom when writing this column. I feel less of a need to perform than I used to. And when I do feel that need, I can recognize it and respond differently (sometimes).
At first, it might be a little bit boring to be ordinary. Now, I've become much more aware of the beauty of ordinary moments that I am fortunate enough to experience every day: the naughty smiles from my daughter; the funny sounds my cat makes in the middle of the night...
24. What does the underlined word"that" in paragraph 2 refer t?
A. Cost. B. Self-confidence.
C. Being themselves. D . Trying to be special.
25 . What does the author do now when she feels a need to perform?
A . Occupy herself with her work. B. Try to hold back the desire.
C. Do what she is expected to do. D. Turn her attention to her family.
26 . What does the author say about her current life?
A . It is unnatural. B. It is boring.
C. It is stressful. D . It is enjoyable.
27 Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A . Why Should We Celebrate Being Ordinary?
B. Why Do Many of Us Try So Hard to Be Special?
C. How Does Children's Self-Confidence Develop?
D. How Can Parents Help Kids Enjoy the Real Life?
C
Chocolate is a popular snack, but the price of it continues to rise. Cocoa from the cacao tree is the basic ingredient of chocolate; the trees thrive in warm and damp climates but are struggling due to increasing aridity - a slow but non-stop drying of the land. This issue extends to producers around the globe, threatening cocoa production and livelihoods of farmers.
Over the past 30 years, more than three-quarters of the Earth's landmass has become drier. This dryness is a long-term transformation with disastrous consequences for ecosystems, agriculture, and livelihoods.
Aridity arises from human-driven factors, including greenhouse gas emissions, unsustainable land use, and natural resource degradation. Climate change, primarily caused by fossil fuel consumption and deforestation, increases global temperatures, accelerating evaporation (蒸发) and heightening water shortage - even in regions with moderate rainfall.
Unsustainable land use further intensifies aridity. Practices like deforestation and industrial farming degrade soils, removing them from protective vegetation and essential nutrients. In cocoa-producing regions, deforestation upsets local water cycles and wears away the topsoil. Degraded soils hold less water, deepening drought conditions.
Cocoa is just one crop at risk. Major agricultural zones are also affected. By 2100, up to 5 billion people may live in dry lands, stretching food systems to their limit and forcing migration.
Aridity also threatens ecosystems. Wildlife struggles to adapt, and plant species suited to warm and damp conditions fail to survive. Economic losses are overwhelming - Africa saw a 12% GDP decline from 1990 to 2015 due to rising aricdity. Governments face additional burdens from sandstorms, wildfires, and water shortages.
While aridity's effects are severe, they are not entirely changeless. Restoring degraded lands, improving soil health, and adopting sustainable farming practices can help. Efficient water management, investment in renewable energy, and international cooperation are essential in battling aridity.
As chocolate prices hit record highs in early 2025 due to dry conditions in Africa' addressing aridity is a matter of urgency. Beyond saving chocolate, it's about preserving the planet's ability to sustain life.
28. What's the main reason for the rising price of chocolate?
A. The decline of cocoa production. B. The high cost of basic ingredients.
C. The increasing demand for chocolate. D. The shortage of cocoa tree plantations.
29. What do we know about aridity?
A. It is mainly caused by natural factors. B. It only affects cocoa-producing regions.
C. It has a wide-ranging impact on various aspects. D. It will disappear if sustainable land use is adopted.
30. Why is Africa's GDP decline mentioned in paragraph 5?
A. To show aridity only causes economic losses in Africa.
B. To prove Africa is the most severely affected by aridity
C. To criticize Africa lacks effective measures against aridity.
D. To illustrate aridity has a significant influence on economy.
31. Which of the following can fight against aridity?
A. Cutting off water supplies. B. Replacing renewable energy.
C. Promoting soil conservation. D. Practicing industrial farming.

New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the " mobile phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us?
Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you' re awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet.
The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parent it might
be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine optimization(最优化). And for the clinician(临床医师),it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and capitalize on future creations. This adoption is critical from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the dynamics of Al and search are changing for just about everyone.
Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in projecting the potential for a child's success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smart phones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to incorporate technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it.
While this shift brings challenges, it's unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn - turning adaptability with tech into a measurable edge.
32. What is TQ according to the text?
A. Speed of learning new languages. B. Skill of fixing high-tech products.
C. Talent to follow modern changes D. Ability to apply new technologies
33. Which of the following people has a high TQ?
A. A manager who often uses modern search engines.
B. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with Al assistance.
C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices awkward.
D. A mom who watches videos of her child's school life.
34. What does the underlined word " assimilate " in the fourth paragraph mean?
A. Rely on. B. Take in. C. Benefit from. D. Learn about.
35. What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ? B. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era?
C. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence? D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes?

Every day, we speak to and spend time with the people who mean the most to us. However, think about how many people you interact with in a typical week are the ones you wouldn't consider as close connections.__36__. In sociology, these are known as our "weak ties", referred to as such to differentiate them from our strong ties, like close friends and family members.
__37__ . For example, if you spoke about your job hunt to a group of close friends, they might only be aware of the same job opportunities as you because you move in the same circles. However, mentioning it to an acquaintance, like a regular waiter, connects you to people outside your own social circle, which can provide unexpected job opportunities.
"Weak ties can serve special functions not served by close ties, including providing access to unique information and resources," says Susan Sprecher, distinguished professor at Illinois State University. "Additionally, many people interact with more weak ties throughout a day than they do with close ties.__38__."
Indeed, weak ties can give us a real mental health boost. A recent study done by Sprecher indicated people with wider connections of weak ties tend to be happier. __39__ . They reported feeling more happiness and greater feelings of belonging on days when they interacted with more classmates than usual.
Given they have such a strong impact on our lives, why not create weak ties? 40 . Often, this will mean going outside and speaking to people, whether it's those you pass in the street, who serve you in shops, or with whom you share a class.
A. The research involved students
B. You find yourself in a better mood
C. We just need to engage with other people
D. Weak ties can have a smaller effect than you might think
E. This diverse social network is related with good health and well-being
F. For example, you chat with the guys who regularly serve you at the store
G. Strong ties tend to form closed social groups with limited new information

It took a day's drive, but distance was beside the point. I always enjoyed long journeys in my father's car with my family. However, things went different that time. We were moving to a new town, not for any tourist destination, buut to settle down, for my father had a new job there. My mother, sitting on the passenger seat in the front, was talking with my father. She looked excited for the coming new life. But I was down, feeling nervous about starting a new school life. Entering a new school meant adapting to a completely different environment and meeting new classmates and teachers, which I was not good at.
On my first day at the new school, I felt lost and out of place. The students already knew each other well, and they chatted happily during breaks. I missed my old friends terribly and wished I could go back to my old school. Feeling lonely. I often spent time alone during breaks and after classes, reading books in the library or drawing pictures in the art room. I missed the good days I had with my old friends and longed for that sense of belonging.
As the days went by, I still found it hard to fit in. I was shy and found it difficult to strike up conversations with my classmates. Some of the kids in my class noticed my discomfort and tried to be friendly, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of being an outsider. I only had words with my deskmate, Alex, when necessary. Things took a turn for the worse when I knocked off Alex's water bottle by accident, although I picked up the bottle immediately and apologized to him. He got mad at me and seemed not to forgive me. Soon I found we were avoiding each other.
