作文1Dear Chris,
How’s everything going? I’d like to share my experience in the “Labor Experience Day” held in my community this summer. During the event, I helped clean the community park first. I picked up litter and weeded flower beds. In the afternoon, I sorted out books in the community library and I arranged the messy books by category to make it easier for people to find books.
It was tiring but rewarding. I felt a strong sense of accomplishment. It also taught me the value of every laborer’s efforts. Labor, I believe, creates not only a better environment but also a more harmonious community.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Li Hua
When I met Halley again, I forced a smile. I told him about my mistake — how I’d signed up for Nature Camp by accident instead of Tech Camp. Halley’s eyes widened at first, but then he patted my shoulder gently. “Nature Camp is awesome too!” he said, pulling out a small notebook filled with sketches of squirrels and fireflies. “We can watch birds at dawn, collect pinecones, and even stargaze tonight. Who knows? These might give you cooler ideas for your animated characters than a computer screen!” His words made me feel a little less upset, though I still missed the coding plans I’d dreamed of.
“Okay, I’ll give it a try!” I said as I looked at Halley. That afternoon, we joined the group to hike through the woods. Halley pointed out a family of deer hiding behind oak trees, and I quickly took photos with my phone — mentally noting their soft fur for animation details. At night, we lay on the grass, watching stars twinkle. Halley pointed out the Big Dipper, and I imagined turning it into a magical background for my characters. By week’s end, I hadn’t touched a computer, but I’d filled a notebook with animal sketches and story ideas. When I got home, I animated a little deer with a pinecone necklace — my favorite memory from Nature Camp. Sometimes, mistakes lead to the best surprises.

At night,in this village near the Assua River in Brazil, the rainforest rings. The sound of generators at
times competes with the forest,a sign that there are people here.Until recently, the Juma people seemed
destined to disappear like countless other Amazon tribes destroyed by the European invasion.
In the late 1990s,the Juma tribe's last family unit consisted of Aruka and his daughters Borea,Mandei,
and Mayta.Following Aruka's passing in202l,the tribe,traditionally patriarchal(父权制的),faced
potential extinction. However,Mandei, supported by her sisters, took on the extraordinary role of the leader,
becoming the first female chief in their Amazonian region, struggling to preserve their heritage.Mandei and
her sisters made the decision to marry men of other tribes, maintaining their people's lineage, despite a
patriotic tradition.
Today,in their territory, their village is full of life.Children of varied ages play in the river.People fish
with nets and rods ()Others are out hunting.Throughout the day, people gather at a common building,

designed in the traditional Juma way,to eat, tend their parrots, lie on hammocks (during the warmest
hours, pound cassava, and check WhatsApp messages on their cellphones, connected to the Internet by a dish
antenna(抛物面天线).
The Juma Indigenous Territories is covered by old-growth Amazon rainforest.A top priority is to
protect their territory,a hotspot of land-grabbing and illegal deforestation. The planned paving of a highway
next to the territory increases the possibility of being invaded by land-grabbers.Cattle farming and soybean
crop expansion across the region are deliberately changing the environment and having a negative impact on
their traditional way of life.To protect against this, young men watch the territory by boat. They use drones
to monitor the most remote areas against loggers, poachers (and fishermen.
For Mandei, her people's language has also been key to this survival. She invited a linguist,Wesley dos
Santos,to visit in 2019.As part of this teamwork,a multimedia dictionary was created for cellphones, along
with an online collection of digital archives with traditional narratives, monologues, and songs in the Juma
language.
"The largest responsibility I share with my sisters is not to lose Juma culture as taught by our father,"
Mandei said.
24.Why did Mandei become the chief?
A.To seize the power in her part of the Amazon.
B.To save her tribe from extinction.
C.To lead her people to fight against invaders.
D.To prove the role of a woman leader.
25.What does the third paragraph mainly want to convey?
A.The Juma has entered the information age.
B.The Juma is living a modern life.

Miami saltwater recreational fishing is a big part of Florida's tourist economy.Fishing enthusiasts take
高三英语第5页(共12页)
more than 40 million saltwater fishing trips each year in Florida in hopes of getting a grouper ()
snapper or mahi mahi. But strict regulations on seasons and the species that can be taken mean that more
than half of the fish caught on a typical trip are returned to the water.Fishing guides and marine fisheries
officials are spreading the word how to make sure the fish that are released live to fight another day.
University of Florida marine fisheries specialist Angela Collins says when reef fish that spend
their time in deep water are brought to the surface, the gases in their bodies expand, sometimes greatly. They
can experience barotrauma."That's when you see the fish's eyes sticking out of its head or its stomach
popping out of its mouth,"Collins says."That obviously can be harmful to the fish,in some cases leading to
death.”
People who fish in Florida are now required to have long needles on board to help reef fish release the
pressure. But it's also important to attach something called a descending (tool to the fish. It's a
weight-attaching to the fish's lower lip before lowering it slowly back into the water."This just shoots it
down really fast,"Collins says."It's closed until this gets to 100 feet. And it pops open. And that just
basically lets the fish swim off."
Conn has operated party boats out of Miami for more than 40 years.Saltwater recreational fishing has
changed a lot during that time."It used to be about killing a lot of fish."But then he says,"Regulations came
in.Some folks didn't fish as much when they weren't able to come home with as many fish."Now,he says,
some come out for a day on the water,to be with their friends and to maybe come home with a fish.Conn
says,"It's fishing just for what it is,it's about the experience."
28.What does the underlined word"barotrauma"in paragraph 2 most probably refer to?
A.Arare chance in life.
B.A life-threatening situation.
C.An injury caused by overeating.
D.An expansion of the species.
29.Why was a descending tool attached to the released fish?
A.To release the pressure for it.
B.To take a good use of the tool.
C.To help it sink to the bottom more slowly.
D.To get it back down to its habitat rapidly.
30.What is the most probable cause for the change of Miami saltwater recreational fishing?
A.Strict rules have been issued.
B.Killing fish is out of fashion.
C.Interest in fishing is growing.
D.Fishing industry is on the decline.

31.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.When to Return Reef Fish to the Sea

D.How to Promote Saltwater Recreational Fishing

Meteorology (may not seem like an eco-unfriendly field, but it does need to clean up its act in
at least one way.A new high-tech glider (could help it do so,by allowing single-use
weather-balloon-carried devices to be reused.
Twice every day in countries around the world,battery-powered weather instruments known as
radiosondes(无线电探空仪)are carried into the atmosphere by hy drogen balloons..On their way up,the
devices record data such as altitude, air pressure, temperature, and wind speed/direction.All of that
information is transmitted to stations on the ground, where it's used in weather reports.
Once the balloon reaches an altitude between 30,480 and 35,052 m,the low atmospheric pressure
causes it to break. Both the burst balloon and the radiosonde then fall back to the earth, most landing in
remote places like forests or oceans.80%of the roughly 600,000 radiosondes which are launched around the
world every year are never found and simply become trash. That's where the"glidersonde"is intended to
come in.
Invented by EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne,a university in Switzerland)
micro-engineering master's student Yohan Hadji, the device is a small glider which houses a set of
electronics along with a standard radiosonde.Tipping the scales at 250 g and with a wing length of 90 cm,
it's small and light enough to be carried into the atmosphere beneath a balloon, gathering and transmitting
weather data along the way.At a predetermined altitude, however, the device releases itself from the balloon
and starts gliding back to its point of takeoff-or to some other preselected location with the help of GPS
The first designed glidersondes have already been tested under a wider range of weather conditions in
Switzerland about 60 times. Each time, the device landed within 15 m of its target positions. As an added
bonus, the gliders themselves can be reused up to 50 times.Currently, the technology is now being
commercialized through Hadji's EPFL company,R2Home.
32.Which aspect of radiosondes does paragraph 2 focus on?
A.Its function.
B.Its popularity.
C.Its challenge.
D.Its origin.
33.What is the main problem with the traditional radiosondes?
高三英语第7页(共12页)
A.The data they record is inaccurate.
B.They cause too much pollution in the air.
C.They are often wasted after being launched.
D.They are easily interfered by atmospheric conditions.
34.Why did Yohan Hadji invent the glidersonde?
A.To replace hy drogen balloons.
B.To fly weather devices back ground.
C.To control the devices remotely.
D.To launch more radiosondes at a time.
35.What can we learn about the first designed glidersondes?
A.They collect weather data using GPS.
B.They have been marketed to EPFL.
C.They can only land at the point of takeoff.
D.They can be recycled and reused more times.

illustration of a boat cruising through the water."Open it whenever you need a moment of escape, tranquility,
or simply beauty,"instructs the website."Only those who visit Lake Como can want to buy our souvenir;
memories are not bought but lived."

38 Many celebrities own second homes in the surrounding area, and numerous movies have been
filmed there.

likely due to the placebo(安慰剂effect,.experts say.
Alessandro Rapinese, the mayor of Como, says that he would rather vacationers bought silk scarves,
which the region is known for,or other souvenirs. However,he adds:"40 Just make sure to take
