After you take notes in class, will you actually review them, or just write them down and forget everything? Useful note-taking skills help you save time and understand lessons better. The Cornell note-taking system is one useful method.
Walter Pauk, an education professor at Comell University, created this system in the 1940s to help students study. According to the Cornell note-taking system, each page is divided into three parts: the note-taking column, the cue (提示) column and summary space. It’s very easy. You just need to draw two lines on your note page, leaving a 2.5-inch margin (页边空白) on the left and a 2-inch margin at the bottom. The largest part is the note-taking column. The narrow part on the left is the cue column, and the summary space is at the bottom.
During class or while reading, you should write notes in the note-taking column. Remember to write down important information, such as key words or facts instead of just copying every word you hear. After class, record some questions and key words according to your notes in the cue column. Then cover the note-taking column. By only looking at the key words or questions on the left, try to repeat the notes in your own words. Finally, write a summary in the summary space. It is designed to help you reflect on (反思) what you’ve learned.
Remember to review your notes regularly. If you keep using this simple method, you will make great progress in your study.
43. What does the Cornell Note look like?
A. B.
C. D.
44. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. We must finish writing the summary during the class.
B. The cue column should include every detail of the lesson.
C. It’s necessary to keep the note-taking column covered all the time.
D. The summary space helps us think deeply about our learning.
45. On which website can we most probably read this passage?
A. www. morningnews. net B. www. howtostudywell. com
C. www. weather-today. com D. www. toptenmovies. com
