A constant panic over lost contact, the emptiness of endless scrolling (滚动) and a nearly missed car accident left me feeling tired. Burnt-out, I closed my account and bought an old Nokia. Then, everything changed. Only after giving up my smartphone did I realize how distracted and anxious I had become. It was difficult, but as months passed, slight changes collected. When the Internet wasn’t immediately accessible, the urge to use it faded away, and parts of me that had been buried under years of digital noise surfaced. Without endless scrolling, hours have returned to me. I can not only use the otherwise screen time to be healthy or productive, but also use it to appreciate the lost art of leisure. I spend a good part of the day just leafing through magazines, drinking cups of tea, poking clumsily at the piano. I don’t believe it is possible to waste time when I am fully present. Staying in touch has proved easier than expected. My non-smartphone still allows calls and texts, and most online-messaging tools are available on my computer. It turns out that the only people I really need to contact on the go are those I am working with. What time will you be there? or I’m running late — that’s urgent (紧急的) information. Some interactions, such as group chats, messages to friends and family abroad might feel urgent, but once I step away from them, I realize that the sense of urgency is a product of software engineering, my own worry, or a combination. It has been years since I downgraded (降级). When people ask whether I miss my smartphone, I think back to the height of my addiction. I was constantly online, yet seldom present. How could I miss that time? I was hardly even there. 24. What led the author to close his Instagram account? A. He failed to get more followers online. B. He was hurt seriously in a car accident. C. He hoped to cut off all online communication. D. He suffered from mental stress from online life. 25. What can we infer from Paragraph 2? A. It was easy for the author to get rid of smartphone addiction. B. Quitting the smartphone helps the author find his inner self. C. He was distracted and anxious after giving up his smartphone. D. Busy and productive activities are the only choice for his free time. 26. What does the author realize after switching to the non-smartphone? A. The sense of urgency is overstated. B. He has to rely much on computers. C. Real-time contact is much needed. D. Close relationships are hard to maintain. 27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Stopping Scrolling, Restoring Health B. Quitting Instagram, Embracing Possibility C. Downgrading Device, Upgrading Presence D. Dropping Smartphone, Recognizing Urgency C We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or lunch queue? Social networking sites have become virtual extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends? In the past, the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to be conversant with technology. However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days we teenagers are attracted to social networking sites because we can choose who we have around us; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated (侵犯) when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand, we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand, if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before. A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it seriously if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to show their independence.” Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list. 28. What does the underlined word “conversant” in the second paragraph probably mean? A. Familiar. B. Careful. C. Patient. D. Busy. 29. What might be the reason for teens to refuse their parents’ friend request? A They have nothing to hide. B. Their privacy cannot be ensured. C. They don’t want to teach their parents. D. They can’t choose friends around them. 30. Why is the survey mentioned in the passage? A. To warn parents. B To blame parents. C. To challenge parents. D. To comfort parents. 31. What is most likely to be talked about next? A. How to bridge the generation gap. B. How to make friends on social networks. C. How to explain the refusal to parents. D. How to use the social networking sites wisely. D For animals living in the deep ocean, eyesight is useless; sound signals are the way they guide, communicate and search for food. However, this way of life is under threat from human-caused noise. A major source is shipping, which has raised underwater noise by about 3.3 decibels (分贝) every ten years, and the noise from ships is doubling every 11.5 years. Much of the underwater noise a ship produces comes from its propeller (螺旋桨). As the blades (叶片) turn around, low-pressure areas form and create bubbles, a small ball of air or gas in water. When these bubbles break, they produce strong low-rate noise that can travel thousands of meters under water. As a result, this noise troubles sea animals that depend on such rates to communicate. Since about 90% of traded goods are carried by sea, cutting the number of ships is not practical. Making ships more power-saving can help reduce noise, but experts believe such steps are not enough to bring back quiet oceans. Therefore, scientists are developing new technologies to make ships quieter. One solution developed by the researchers at the University of British Columbia is to add flexible materials to blades so that the tips can fold, preventing bubbles from forming and cutting noise. Models show this design could reduce bubble-making noise by 20 decibels. Another way is to increase bubbles instead of reducing them. Dutch researchers have tested blowing bubbles onto a propeller’s blades to soften the resulting noise, which showed a 12-decibel decrease at average ship speed. In order to confirm the effect further, researchers will next apply these methods in real-world settings. With these new technologies, we are looking forward to making the ocean quiet again and protect all living things in the sea. 32. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By presenting a fact. B. By explaining a rule. C. By giving an example. D. By expressing an opinion. 33. What directly causes the underwater noise from ships? A. The blades. B. The propeller. C. The pressure. D. The bubbles. 34. What might be a practical way to reduce underwater noise from ships? A. Making blades with foldable tips. B. Cutting the number of ships. C. Slowing down the ship speed. D. Producing power-saving ships. 35. What is the author’s attitude towards the new ship-noise-reducing technologies? A. Doubtful. B. Hopeful. C. Unclear. D. Indifferent. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Many people lack interest in learning new words, for they think it is nothing more than rote memorization (死记硬背). 36 There are a wide variety of ways you can use to help you truly master new words rather than memorizing them mechanically. Blend (融入) new words into your daily environment. Hang large sheets of blank paper in places you visit often, such as your bathroom or kitchen. Whenever you come across new words, write the words along with their meanings on these pieces of paper. 37 You may also draw a simple picture next to each word, so the words on the paper will make a more lasting impression each time you pass it. Make the new words part of your life. 38 For example, if you want to learn to use the word “azure”, a bright-blue color, write it into several sentences related to your daily situation: “My new cup is a beautiful azure.” or “My pillow is painted in soft azure.” This way, the word will stick in your mind easily. Turn word-learning into a fun game. The more fun you can make your word-learning time, the more likely you are to keep up this practice. There are a number of free word-learning games available online. 39 40 Not everyone has a great memory. So even if you’ve got those words stored in your mind temporarily, you still need constant review. Go over them time and again, so that they will not fade from your mind. Only through repeated revision can you gain confidence in using them. In short, word-building does not have to be tiring work. With proper methods, you can learn new words effectively. A. Revise the words regularly. B. However, that is not the truth. C. Memorize as many new words as possible. D. That way you’ll find yourself frequently noticing them. E. Make the most of them and you will make unexpected progress. F. You want to have somewhere to look up the meaning of the word. G. You can create sentences with new words based on your real-life experiences. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共三节,满分45分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Mom gave me an abundance of love.
