It was the first time any country had done this in more than forty years. Why is moon rock so valuable? The answer is time. Earth's surface is constantly changing: wind, water and life have erased almost all the evidence of its earliest history. The moon has no wind and no water. Its surface has stayed almost unchanged for billions of years. By studying the samples, scientists learned something important. The moon's volcanoes were active much more recently than anyone had believed, possibly within the last two billion years. This changed the way scientists understand how the moon cooled down. The mission also tested new technology. The spacecraft had to land without a human pilot, collect samples automatically, and then launch again from the moon's surface, all without direct control from Earth. Chinese scientists have shared some of the samples with researchers from other countries. “The moon does not belong to any one nation,” said one of the mission leaders. “What we learn there belongs to everyone.” 1.What did Chang'e 5 do in 2020? A. It sent people to the moon. B. It photographed the moon from Earth. C. It landed on the moon and brought samples back. D. It built a base on the moon. 2.Why is moon rock valuable for study? A. Moon rock is made of gold. B. It is very hard to collect. C. It contains living things. D. The moon's surface has changed very little over time. 3.What important thing did scientists learn? A. The moon's volcanoes were active more recently than believed. B. The moon has water on its surface. C. The moon is much younger than Earth. D. The moon has a thick atmosphere. 4.What did the mission test? A. Human walking on the moon. B. Automatic landing and sample collection. C. A new kind of rocket fuel. D. Communication with Mars. 5.What did the mission leader say about the moon? A. It belongs to one nation. B. It should not be studied. C. It belongs to everyone. D. It is too far to reach. (二) When people talk about life in space, they usually think of astronauts floating in weightlessness. But the hardest part of a long space journey may be something much less dramatic: the mind. Researchers who study astronauts have found that the greatest difficulties are not physical. Living in a small space with the same few people for months, with no way to go outside, puts great pressure on anyone. Small annoyances become serious arguments. Letters from home, which once took months to arrive, now arrive instantly, and that can make loneliness worse rather than better. One solution is to keep a strict routine. Astronauts eat, exercise and sleep at fixed times. Another is to give each person a private task, so that everyone feels useful. A third is to watch the Earth. “Almost every astronaut says the same thing,” one researcher reported. “Looking down at the Earth changes how you think. The borders disappear. You see one small, beautiful, fragile world, and you understand how foolish our quarrels are.” That may be the greatest gift space travel gives us. It does not only take us away from home. It lets us see home for the first time. 6.What do people usually think of when they hear about life in space? A. Long arguments between astronauts. B. Astronauts floating in weightlessness. C. The difficulty of eating in space. D. The cost of space travel. 7.What does research suggest is the hardest part? A. The lack of food. B. The cold temperature. C. The danger of crashing. D. The mental pressure of long journeys. 8.Why can instant messages make loneliness worse? A. They remind astronauts of home they cannot reach. B. They use too much electricity. C. They are often written in a foreign language. D. They arrive in the middle of the night. 9.What is one solution mentioned? A. Keeping a strict daily routine. B. Allowing astronauts to go outside. C. Sending fewer messages from home. D. Giving everyone the same task. 10.What does looking at the Earth teach astronauts? A. How to travel faster in space. B. How small and fragile our world is. C. How to build better spacecraft. D. How to avoid quarrels on Earth. 4. “任务”,before a mission 意为“在执行任务前”,故填 mission。 5. 7. “生命”,signs of life 意为“生命的迹象”,故填 life。 8. “发射”,The launch of 意为“…… “卫星”,A new weather 后接单数名词,satellite 意为“卫星”,故填 satellite。 2. 5. “发现”,hope to do sth. 6. “引力”,the force of 后接名词,gravity 意为“引力”,故填 gravity。 7.
