Relationships with your siblings (兄弟姐妹) can help you practice social skills. Having a good relationship with them can help you communicate with other people and understand other people’s feelings. For example, when you share toys or take turns playing games, you learn to think about someone else’s needs. You can even learn things when you don’t get on with your siblings. When you have argued with them, you have to work out how to be in the same space as them. As a result, you often learn how to accept differences. This is very useful in the outside world, such as at school or in future jobs.
It’s completely normal that sometimes you and your sibling won’t see eye to eye. “Have a good think about why the two of you don’t get on. Try to talk when you both cool down,” says Dr. Owen, a researcher in how children develop. “Tell them how you feel. You could say, ‘It really hurts me when you make jokes about me.’ If the trouble carries on, talk to a trusted adult.” Learning to solve problems calmly is a skill that will help you all your life.
All families are different. What if you don’t have siblings? That doesn’t mean you won’t experience the advantages people get from having a brother or sister. There are ways to help only children develop these skills too. You can spend time with cousins, join a sports team, or take part in after-school clubs. These activities also teach you how to cooperate, share, and deal with disagreements. So whether you have siblings or not, you can still grow your social skills. The important thing is to keep practicing and be open to learning from every relationship.
4. What can we infer from Paragraph 1 about sibling relationships?
A. They always lead to good communication.
B. They are the only way to learn social skills.
C. They can be helpful even when they are not smooth.
5. What does the underlined phrase “see eye to eye” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Agree with each other. B. Argue in a loud voice. C. Live in the same room.
6. Which of the following would Dr. Owen probably agree with?
A. Only adults can solve sibling problems.
B. Children should never argue with their siblings.
C. Talking about feelings after cooling down is a good way.
7. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To explain why siblings are better than cousins.
B. To show that only children are luckier than others
C. To advise only children to find other ways to practice social skills.
【答案】4. C 5. A 6. C 7. C

The beauty of nature will leave you dumb (说不出话的) once you start travelling, but it will make you a storyteller once you finish travelling. Nothing can be more relaxing than taking a break from the busy life by travelling to an unknown place and meeting new friends. Tours and travels make us realize the beauty and natural wealth that we have in different locations of our planet. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in September 1979, decided to organize World Tourism Day, first celebrated on September 27th, 1980. The date of September 27th was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes (章程) of the UNWTO were passed.
Every year World Tourism Day is celebrated with a specific theme. The theme in 2026 is “Tourism and Peace”. And this year Georgia (格鲁吉亚) has been chosen to be the host country for World Tourism Day 2026. What can we students do on this day? Okay, we don’t have to go on a trip around the world. But we can mark this special day with a fun-filled family staycation (a blend of stay and vacation) . Here are some good ideas.
Visit museum.
Head out to the art museum for the afternoon. Not only are you touring the museum, but you can “travel” around the world too. Take a look at foreign mountains, lakes or rivers and imagine you’re “walking” through one of the cities that are hanging on the wall.
Take in some history.
If you have a history center nearby, you can spend the day learning about different time periods, places and events. If not, search for local historical sites. These include historical homes or battlefields (战场) .
Go to a theme park.
The end of September’s weather is still warm enough to play outside. So go to a theme park. It’s a perfect way to celebrate World Tourism Day!
8. Why was September 27 chosen as the date of World Tourism Day?
A. It was the day when the UNWTO Statutes were passed in 1970.
B. It was the day when the first World Tourism Day was celebrated.
C. It was the day when the UNWTO decided to create the event in 1979.
9. What is TRUE about World Tourism Day 2026?
A. It will be celebrated only by students in Georgia
B. Georgia will host it, and its theme is “Tourism and Peace”.
C. It will be the first time for the event to have a special theme.
10. How does the author support the idea of staycation?
A. By comparing World Tourism Day with a family staycation
B. By explaining why Georgia is the best host country for the event.
C. By listing nearby activities that can give them travel-like experiences
11. What does the author mainly want to tell readers?
A. World Tourism Day has a long history and is only for adults
B. The best way to celebrate World Tourism Day is to visit a theme park.
C. Students can celebrate World Tourism Day at home or nearby in meaningful ways!
【答案】8. A 9. B 10. C 11. C

A heartwarming story about a mother’s love has recently gone viral (走红的) online, touching millions of hearts. It is a beautiful example of how devoted a mother can be to her child.
Liu, a young man from Shaanxi, shared his story on the Internet. When he was in junior high school, he wished for a Nike schoolbag just like the one many classmates had. But at that time, his family was unable to afford it. Instead of letting him feel disappointed, his mother—who had learned sewing at the age of 16—decided to make a special one for him. She carefully sewed a Nike logo onto his old schoolbag by hand and added beautiful flower patterns to make it look more fashionable.
Liu was excited when he saw the redesigned bag. He treasured it not only because it looked cool but also because it was made with love. As he grew older, he understood more deeply how much effort and care his mother had put into the gift.
Recently, Liu found a photo of the schoolbag on his phone and shared the story on social media. The photo quickly received over 10 million likes. Even Nike noticed it and left a comment praising his mother’s skill. They said they would send her a gift.

Let’s Help with Chores
Should children help with the chores? Different people have different ideas. Some students think it is unnecessary to do chores because they are too busy with their schoolwork.
However, in my opinion, it is very important for us to help out at home. First of all, doing chores helps us learn to be independent and look after ourselves. Secondly, by sharing housework, we can leave more free time for our family to do fun things together. I usually help my parents sweep the floor, take out the rubbish and wash the dishes after dinner.
In a word, doing chores is a good way to show our love and thanks to our parents. Let’s take action and help with chores!
