At 65, George had recently left work and was seeking a rewarding hobby for his golden years. For both of us, we loved painting and we met at a local TAFE painting class. Thus began a friendship that was to last for 25 years—until the day he died. George was an energetic man who lived life to the full. He loved his family, his friends, and was loyal and outspoken. As the only male in a painting class full of women, George quite enjoyed it. He ruled the roost (栖息处) and we were his hens. He loved his singular (单一的) role and looked after his hens with the same attention he gave to everything. He took to painting with passion and devotion. He carefully housed his expensive painting tools in a box—a red metal tool box—built to bear hard knocks. Not fancy, but smooth and shiny and very red. In 2004, I learned that he was very ill and went to visit him. “He's very confused and may not recognize you,” Penny, his daughter, warned. But as I bent over, George opened his eyes. “Betty!” he said, and with surprising strength, held my hand. “I've always been hoping to leave my box to you. I'm afraid I can't paint anymore, and you have the best talent and are most likely to use it,” he said. With tears in my eyes, I accepted the gift on the proviso (附带条件) he could take it back at any time. He never did. He died two days later. Today I still use much of his equipment kept in the box. The box is still in good shape, very red. The original shop sticker is still firmly in place although the price has worn off. But that's all right because to my mind some things, like friendship, are beyond price. 24. Why did George go to painting class? A. He wanted to please his children. B. He wanted to enjoy school life again. C. He wanted to make new friends there. D. He wanted to develop a worthwhile hobby. 25. What's the author's purpose of writing the text? A. To introduce a popular hobby. B. To describe a precious friendship. C. To remember a red tool box. D. To appreciate her friend's help. 26. Which word can describe George according to the text? A. Honest. B. Brave. C. Caring. D. Lucky. 27. What can we learn from the text? A. The tool box is well kept by the author. B. George took the red tool box back in the end. C. George was shy and didn't talk much in the class. D. The author thought their painting class was boring. C Until now the usual way we identify dogs is with micro-chipping (微芯片). But a company from South Korea has developed an app, PetNow. On this phone, I’ve got the new app, which is now using the dog’s nose print to identify a dog, just like you can use a fingerprint with a human to make identification. “Now show me your nose, buddy.” I take pictures of the dog’s nose. “Then who is the dog? Is it Emma, Lenard, Karl, or Ethan?” The app analyses the data in the cloud and tells me that this is Emma. It’s showing me that Emma’s been reported as missing and where she was reported missing. I can share my location with the owner, so they can be reunited. Unlike a micro-chip, which could be cut out of a stolen dog, you can’t really remove a dog’s nose without spoiling the dog. And by using the phone’s camera to scan, anyone in theory can check a stray dog without any specialist equipment. Recently, I’ve spoken to PetNow to find out why they’d settled on nose prints for dog recognition. There may be paws or ears, but some dogs really hate showing up, sharing their paws or their ears. Nose is actually exposed all the time. And after a dog becomes six months old the nose print stays there their entire life, so we believe that it is the best part for identification. PetNow hopes its app will become mandatory in South Korea to help reduce the number of dogs that are abandoned by pet owners. To do that they will need the support of government and a huge marketing push, so that everybody including people who don’t own a dog must install the app and know how to use it. 28. Which can be inferred from the passage? A. Dogs’ prints are very similar. B. Micro-chipping a dog is out of date. C. The app requires specialist equipment. D. The app can map out a lost dog’s original place. 29. Why did PetNow settle on nose prints for dog recognition? A. Because a micro-chip can be cut out. B. Because some dogs hate showing up. C. Because their noses are easy to be photographed. D. Because their nose print never changes since they were born. 30. Which of the word best explains the underlined word “mandatory” in the last paragraph? A. Safe. B. Required. C. Professional. D. Easy. 31. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Taking Pictures for Dog’s Nose B. PetNow Saves Abandoned Dogs C. Nose Print Technology on the Way D. PetNow Identifies Dogs with Nose Print D Used in fast food packaging, long-lasting chemicals called PFAS can get into food and build up in our bodies. A new study found that after 24 hours, people who ate fast food consistently showed an increase in PFAS in their blood. Unlike other pollutants (污染物), PFAS can exist for years, meaning regular fast food consumption adds more to the body. PFAS refers to a class of chemicals used to make objects water or fire resistant. A 2017 study of 400 wrappers found that more than half of bread and dessert wrappers contained the chemical, as did nearly 40% of sandwich and burger wrappers. The chemical has such a bad fame for its inability to break down that it is often called a “forever chemical”. “Food is just one source of exposure,” says Laurel Schadier, an environmental engineer. PFAS is also commonly found in paint, carpeting and clothing. However, she adds, “We’re not able to link a certain rate of fast food intake with harmful health effects.” Illustrating a measurable health impact from eating five burgers with PFAS a week compared to just one is difficult because the chemicals are so common. Rolf Halden, an environmental health expert, says the study shows a clear link between fast food and PFAS consumption, but he worries more about the overall abundance of PFAS in consumer goods. “I am less interested in the aspect of popcorn and fast food but more fascinated that we see 70 percent of the U.S. population is getting exposed to chemicals that cannot degrade(分解),” he says. In addition to unknown health consequences, Schadier notes environmental concerns when PFAS is thrown away. Tap water serving 7.5 million Californians tested positive for the pollutant. While Washington and San Francisco have limited PFAS in food containers, Denmark recently became the first country to ban it entirely from food packaging. Of the study results, Halden adds: “It would be foolish to think what’s here is the complete exposure to PFAS. That is much larger and still growing more complex.” 32. How does fast food relate to PFAS consumption according to the study? A. Fast food contains more PFAS than other food does. B. It is fast food that leads to the consumption of PFAS. C. PFAS are widely present in fast food packaging materials. D. The more fast food we eat, the more PFAS gets in our blood. 33. What makes PFAS known as a “forever chemical”? A. It can never break down naturally. B. It is widely used in fast food packaging. C. It is found in paint, carpeting and clothing. D. It can make objects water and fire resistant. 34. Which of the following statements would Halden most likely agree with? A. PFAS exposure is limited to the U.S. population. B. The study’s findings fully explain all PFAS exposure risks. C. Denmark’s ban on PFAS in food packaging is unnecessary. D. Fast food is a minor issue compared to the widespread use of PFAS. 35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To warn American people against eating fast food. B. To suggest banning all chemicals from food packaging. C. To prove that PFAS is more harmful than other pollutants. D. To introduce a chemical called PFAS and its possible risks. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) How to Choose Extracurricular Activities From sports to clubs to outside organizations, there are many activities to take part in outside the classroom. ____36____ Fortunately, it becomes quite easy once you figure out what you enjoy doing in general. I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most. I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You're welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn't only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades." “Of course I will." I said confidently. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn't even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn't pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn't get caught using it. I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test. It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A's and B's on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn't believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed. 注意: 1.续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2,续写部分分为两段,每段的开头已给出。 Paragraph 1: Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2028届高二年级上学期第一次月考试题 英语 考生注意: 1. What did the man think of the festival this year? C. To make a comparison between two other hand gestures. 20. What is an original meaning of the handshake gesture? A. Gratitude. B. Love. C. Respect. 【答案】18. B 19. A 20. C 【解析】 【原文】 M: Good afternoon, everyone. Earlier on in today’s lecture, I mentioned the importance of hand gestures and said that I’d touch on the history of the gestures. I’d like to focus on two in particular: the high five and the handshake. The high-five hand gesture is generally used as a celebration. Many see its origins in baseball. Two US teams lay claim to inventing the high five: the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977 and the Louisville Cardinals in 1978. It’s quite likely that it was neither, and the gesture might have a much earlier origin. It’s very similar to a 1920s Jazz Age gesture known as the “low five” or “giving skin”. The other gesture I’m going to mention today is the handshake. It dates back as far as ancient Greece. Its original meaning is to convey trust, respect and equality. In the 17th-century European marriage paintings, we find many examples of handshakes between husband and wife. Now, of course, the handshake serves many purposes: meeting, greeting, expressing gratitude or completing an agreement. Besides, it’s also used to offer congratulations, which serves the same purpose as the high five. 第二部分阅读(共两节, 满分50分) 第一节(共15小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Libraries are the temple for book lovers, the main source of knowledge and wisdom. My children were just entering school life allowing me to escape from endless housework. 【答案】24. D 25. B 26. C 27. A 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者与老乔治相识相知的过程,是对已经逝老乔治的追忆。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“At 65, George had recently left work and was seeking a rewarding hobby for his golden years.(65岁时,乔治刚刚离开工作岗位,正在为自己的黄金岁月寻找一个有益的爱好)”可知,乔治刚退休,想要培养一个有益的有价值的爱好。故选D项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文可知,本文主要讲述了作者与乔治相识相知的过程,是对已经去世老乔治的追忆,文章最后“But that's all right because to my mind some things, like friendship, are beyond price.(但这没关系,因为在我看来,有些东西,比如友谊,是无价的)”再次点题,回忆这段珍贵的友谊正是作者写这篇文章的目的。故选B项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“He loved his family, his friends, and was loyal and outspoken. As the only male in a painting class full of women, George quite enjoyed it. He ruled the roost (栖息处) and we were his hens. He loved his singular (单一的) role and looked after his hens with the same attention he gave to everything.(他爱他的家人,他的朋友,忠诚而坦率。在满是女性的绘画班上,乔治是唯一的男性,因此他很享受。他管理着这一“栖息处”,我们是他的“母鸡”。他热爱这单一的角色并照顾着他的“母鸡们”,给予她们一样的关心)”可知,乔治在绘画班上照顾着每一个学员,他是一个体贴人的朋友。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“He carefully housed his expensive painting tools in a box—a red metal tool box—built to bear hard knocks. Not fancy, but smooth and shiny and very red.(他小心翼翼地把他昂贵的绘画工具放在一个盒子里——一个红色的金属工具箱,用来承受沉重的敲打。不花哨,但光滑发亮,非常红) ”和第四段“Today I still use much of his equipment kept in the box. The box is still in good shape, very red.(今天,我仍然在使用他保存在盒子里的很多设备。这个盒子仍然完好无损,非常红)”可推知,时至今日,作者仍然把乔治的盒子保存得很好。故选A项。 C Until now the usual way we identify dogs is with micro-chipping (微芯片). PetNow Identifies Dogs with Nose Print 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. B 31. D 【解析】 【导语】 文章主要介绍了韩国公司PetNow开发的一款利用狗鼻子纹识别狗的应用程序,以及其工作原理、优势和应用前景。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“It’s showing me that Emma’s been reported as missing and where she was reported missing. I can share my location with the owner, so they can be reunited. (它向我显示Emma已被报告失踪,以及她在哪里被报告失踪。我可以与主人分享我的位置,这样他们就能团聚。)”可知,该应用程序能够显示失踪狗被报告失踪的地点,帮助主人找回狗。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Nose is actually exposed all the time. (鼻子实际上一直暴露在外。)”可知,PetNow选择鼻纹识别是因为鼻子始终暴露,容易被手机相机拍到。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“PetNow hopes its app will become mandatory in South Korea to help reduce the number of dogs that are abandoned by pet owners. D Used in fast food packaging, long-lasting chemicals called PFAS can get into food and build up in our bodies. 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. D 35. D 【解析】 【导语】本文介绍了一种名为PFAS的持久性化学物质,介绍了它的应用场景、来源,分析了快餐摄入与人体PFAS积累的关联,并阐述了该物质对人体和环境的潜在危害,以及各地的管控措施。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“A new study found that after 24 hours, people who ate fast food consistently showed an increase in PFAS in their blood...regular fast food consumption adds more to the body(一项新研究发现,食用快餐的人24小时后血液中的PFAS含量会持续升高……经常吃快餐会让该物质在人体内不断累积)”可知,食用快餐越多,人体内的PFAS含量就越高。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The chemical has such a bad fame for its inability to break down that it is often called a “forever chemical”(这种化学物质因无法分解而声名狼藉,常被称作“永久化学物质”)”可知,无法自然分解是PFAS被称为永久化学物质的原因。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“he worries more about the overall abundance of PFAS in consumer goods(他更担心消费品中PFAS的整体存量)”和“I am less interested in the aspect of popcorn and fast food but more fascinated that we see 70 percent of the U.S. population is getting exposed to chemicals that cannot degrade (分解)(我不太关注爆米花和快餐方面的问题,更关注的是70%的美国人都在接触这种无法分解的化学物质)”可知,在Halden看来,相较于快餐带来的影响,PFAS在各类产品中广泛传播的问题更为严峻,快餐只是次要问题。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,根据第一段“A new study found that after 24 hours, people who ate fast food consistently showed an increase in PFAS in their blood. Unlike other pollutants (污染物), PFAS can exist for years, meaning regular fast food consumption adds more to the body.(一项新研究发现,食用快餐的人24小时后血液中的PFAS含量会持续升高。与其他污染物不同,PFAS可存在多年,这意味着经常吃快餐会让该物质在人体内不断累积)”等内容可知,文章主要介绍了PFAS这种特殊化学物质的特性、使用场景、传播途径,以及它带来的人体健康和环境风险。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) How to Choose Extracurricular Activities From sports to clubs to outside organizations, there are many activities to take part in outside the classroom. ____36____ Fortunately, it becomes quite easy once you figure out what you enjoy doing in general. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY'', and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn't communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them. From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I' m not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day. 关注:pay attention to/focus on sth./be concerned about ②. 交流:communicate with sb./chat with sb./exchange ideas with ③. 改变:change one's mind/have a different opinion towards 情绪类 ①. 抱怨:complain/say sth. angrily/make a complaint ②. 抱歉:feel sorry/regret/feel apologetic 【点睛】[高分句型1].
