Dear Tony,
How is everything going? I’m writing to share with you the school reading festival themed Embrace Classics, Embody Virtues.
I read The Analects at the activity. It records wise words of Confucius, telling us virtues like being honest and respecting elders. What impresses me most is the idea of treating others kindly.
This classic lets me better understand traditional Chinese virtues. I really want to send you a copy so you can feel its charm.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon. As I focused on the steady horizon where sky met earth, my breathing gradually slowed. “Look at the instruments,” Captain Reynolds continued, his voice calm. “Focus on what they tell you — altitude, speed, direction. The ground isn’t your concern right now.” As I read the dials, I found the power of controlling the plane far outweighed my remaining fear. “You did well,” Captain Reynolds said as we landed. “Fear is normal — it keeps you alert. But a pilot flies because he loves the sky more than he fears the fall.”
A year later, I completed my first solo flight. As I stepped out of the aircraft, my knees were still weak, but this time it wasn’t from fear — it was from pure joy. My classmates applauded, and Captain Reynolds shook my hand firmly. “You did it, son,” he said. And I learned something more valuable: courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s moving forward despite it. That day, I wasn’t just a pilot — I was proof that even the most impossible dreams can become real, if you’re brave enough to face your fears and keep climbing.

(25-26高一上·江苏盐城·期中)Johnnie Martin was a high school student. One day a psychologist (心理学家) called Johnnie into his office and said, “Johnnie. I’ve gone over your various tests. I’ve made a very careful study of you and your achievements.”
“I’ve been trying hard,” put in Johnnie.
“That’s just the trouble,” said the psychologist. “You have worked very hard, but it doesn’t do the trick. You just don’t seem to be able to get ahead in your studies. For you to remain in high school would be a waste of time.”
Johnnie buried his face in his hands. The psychologist laid his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “People have different kinds of talents, Johnnie,” he said. “Some day you will find what your special gift is.”
Johnnie never went back to school. He managed to mow the lawns (修整草坪) and grow flowers in the neighborhood. One day Johnnie noticed a piece of unused land behind the city hall. An official happened to be there at that moment. So Johnnie said “I can make a garden out of this land, if you’ll let me.”
“The town’s got no money for it,” said the official.
“I don’t want any money for it,” said Johnnie. “I just want to do it.”
The official was astonished and gave him the authority.
Before long the land became a little park. There were grassy lawns and little curving walks and restful seats and little houses for birds. All the people were talking about what a lovely improvement the young man had made. It was also a kind of show window for Johnnie. People saw his skill and knew him as a gardener.

(25-26高一上·江苏南通·期中)Jennifer Destefano answered a call from a number she did not recognize. “Mom, these bad men have me,” her daughter’s voice told her, crying. A man continued to demand money, or he would drug her daughter and leave her in Mexico. But while she kept him on the phone, friends managed to reach her daughter, only to discover that she was free and well on a skiing trip in Arizona. The voice used on the phone was a fake (冒充品).
In fact, voice cloning has far-reaching influences. A brief sample of a particular individual voice can be used to train an AI model, which can then speak any given text sounding like that person. The feature is to be included in iPhone’s new operating system IOS 17 to help people who may be in danger of losing their voices. ElevenLabs, an AI startup, offers users the chance to create their own clones in minutes. When generating a recording, the system also offers a controller that allows users to choose between variability, a lifelike intonation (语调), and stability, similar to a calm newsreader, both accurate.
With cloning coming, voices claiming to be someone may prove to be fakes. That disturbs financial industry (金融业), which uses voice as an important identification. In journalism, fewer people will trust news based on recordings. The opposite problem will arise when public figures refuse to admit their genuine recordings. Now, ever more people caught up in illegal behaviors will be attracted by the defence, “It wasn’t me.”
Creative industries could face challenges too. Voice actors’ skills, trained over a lifetime, can be taken away in a matter of seconds. The Telegraph recently reported on actors who had mistakenly given up rights to their voices, making it possible to clone them for nothing. But as the old saying goes, a coin has two sides. Val Kilmer, who has lost much of his voice to throat cancer, was delighted to have his voice restored for Top Gun: Maverick. And some others may be spared heading to the studio for retakes.
28.Why does the author talk about Destefano’s experience?
A.To explain why Destefano was cheated. B.To praise a mother’s love for her daughter.
C.To teach people how to recognize fake voices. D.To draw readers’ attention to voice cloning.
29.What can be learned from Paragraph 2?
A.Cloning voices can be variously styled. B.IOS trains people disabled in speaking.
C.Cloning one’s voice is time-consuming. D.AI learns human voice from texts.
30.What impact may voice cloning make?
A.Financial industry will abandon voice identification.
B.Broadcasting will disappear in journalism.
C.Criminals use it as an excuse to escape punishment.
D.Public figures dare not make recordings.
31.What is voice cloning’s influence in creative industries?
A.Disastrous. B.Double edged. C.Beneficial. D.Short-termed.

(25-26高一上·江苏宿迁·期中)27-year-old Cui Can, a lawyer working in Chengdu, made an unusual career choice in early 2023: specializing in pet-related disputes (纠纷). His change came from a late-night idea while working overtime, accompanied only by his long-haired cat Ultraman. “I was burdened by heavy civil case workloads, but Ultraman’s quiet comfort made me realize my strong interest in pet-related legal issues,” he recalled.
Before focusing on this area, Cui dealt with a wide range of civil cases for years after graduating in 2021 and starting his own business in 2023. Now, he deals with cases like vet (兽医) care mistakes, accidental death, etc. One very sad case left Cui a deep memory: a young man’s dog died during a regular dental treatment because the clinic forgot pre-anesthesia (麻醉前) checks. The owner fell into severe depression and asked for an apology instead of just money, but the clinic refused to say it was wrong.
Cui’s work matches China’s fast-growing pet population. A 2024 Goldman Sachs report showed that the number of pets in China was larger than the number of children under four for the first time, and it is expected to double by 2030. While pets are increasingly seen as family members, legal protection is slow to follow. Without a special animal protection law, lawyers rely on unclear Civil Code rules, leading to light punishments for harm or carelessness.
Some practical problems also exist: owners often lack important proof like medical records, vet testing technology is not well developed, and judges lack expert support. To solve these problems, Cui set up the Pet Legal Alliance in March, a WeChat group with over 1,000 working lawyers who are also pet owners. They share resources, discuss important cases and give suggestions to local governments on making animal protection rules.
“Pets are life partners, not just things we own.” he said, “We’ re working hard to change the law, one case at a time.”
32.What led Cui Can to specialize in pet-related disputes?
A.The demand for pet-related case lawyers. B.His childhood experience of raising pets.
C.The inspiration from his pet cat Ultraman. D.Dissatisfaction of heavy civil case workload.
33.What can we infer about the Xi’an dog case?
A.The clinic was severely punished by law.
B.The dog died of natural causes in the end
C.The owner received much money as payment.
D.Emotional comfort mattered more to the owner.
34.What is the main challenge in pet legal protection.
A.Pet lawyers lack experience in such cases.
B.Punishments for harm to pets are too light.
C.There are no special animal protection laws.
D.Pet owners fail to collect necessary evidence.
35.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.China’s Rapidly Growing Pet Business
B.A Lawyer Fighting for Pets’ Legal Rights
C.A New Way to Settle Pet-Related Disputes
D.The Importance of Animal Protection Laws

(25-26高一上·江苏盐城·期中)Have you ever noticed how some people can effortlessly talk to anyone they meet, no matter how different their backgrounds are? Or have you seen that one person who always offends someone, no matter what the topic of conversation is? These two scenes show how we can differ in our abilities to interact, get along with, and relate to others around us. 36
After years of academic research and development, this social competency is now commonly referred to as “social intelligence”. Do you want to improve your social intelligence? Here are great ideas with which to get started.
Listen well and pay attention
Practice active listening so that you can fully engage and communicate with others. 37 It is natural to want to respond to that text message that pops up on your phone immediately, even when you’re in the middle of a face-to-face conversation. Give people your full attention when speaking with them. 38
Watch out for body language
39 Even if they aren’t saying so, their feelings are truly revealed. Try to tune in to what the other person is saying “physically”. In the same way, be aware of your own body language and how you are presenting yourself. If you slouch and appear physically uninterested during a conversation, it may make the speakers lose confidence in what they are saying, resulting in a negative interaction.
Show that you care
If you sense that someone is upset, or if someone tells you they are going through some difficulties, show them you truly care. 40
A.Life is often fast paced, with many digital distractions.
B.Often, people’s gestures will tell us a great deal about how they are feeling.
C.Sharing other people’s feelings can help you connect at a more meaningful level.
D.People like to feel heard, and it will help you develop worthwhile relationships.
E.The speaker fails to deliver a clear and objective message during his presentation.
F.Engaging in a meaningful conversation can reduce loneliness and help reconnect with others.
G.In the same way that we vary in traditional academic competencies, we can vary in how socially competent we are.

(25-26高一上·安徽合肥·期中)I had always dreamed of becoming a pilot. Ever since I was five years old, I would stare up at the sky, watching planes trace white lines across the blue, imagining myself sitting in the cockpit, guiding thousands of passengers safely through the clouds. My room was covered with posters of aircraft, and I could name every commercial plane model by the age of ten.
But there was one problem: I was terrified of heights.
It was an embarrassing contradiction. How could someone who wanted to fly for a living be afraid of looking down from a tall building? Every time I went to an observation deck, my legs would turn to jelly, and my heart would race uncontrollably. My friends laughed when I told them my dream. “A pilot who’s afraid of heights? That’s like a chef who hates food!” they teased.
When I turned eighteen, I applied to the aviation academy anyway. My parents were supportive but concerned. “Are you sure about this, son?” my father asked gently. “Being a pilot isn’t just about loving planes — it’s about being comfortable in the sky.” I nodded firmly, though inside I was full of doubt.
The first week at the academy was overwhelming. On the third day, we were scheduled for our first training flight — a short lesson in a small Cessna aircraft. As I walked toward the small plane on the tarmac, my palms were sweaty. The instructor, Captain Reynolds, a calm, experienced pilot with more than 20,000 flight hours, noticed my nervousness. “First time in a small plane?” he asked. I nodded, unable to speak. He smiled and said, “I’ll be right there with you.”
The plane took off smoothly, but as we climbed higher, my fear took over. I looked out the window and saw the ground falling away — the airport shrinking to a tiny patch, the cars becoming small dots, the buildings turning into toys. My breathing became shallow and fast. I gripped the armrest so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I wanted to scream, but no sound came out.
Captain Reynolds noticed immediately. He gently placed his hand on my shoulder and spoke calmly. “Look forward, not down. Focus on the horizon, not the ground. Tell me what you see.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

根据第三段心理学家说的话“You have worked very hard, but it doesn’t do the trick. You just don’t seem to be able to get ahead in your studies. For you to remain in high school would be a waste of time.(你已经非常努力了,但还是没有达到预期效果。你似乎就是无法在学习上取得进步。对你来说,继续留在高中是浪费时间。)”可知,心理学家认为Johnnie并不适合走学习这条道路,继续留在高中学习是浪费时间。故选C项。
25.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Johnnie buried his face in his hands. (Johnnie用手捂住了脸。)”和心理学家安慰他时所说的“People have different kinds of talents, Johnnie(每个人都有不同的天赋,Johnnie)”可推知,Johnnie是难过地接受了自己不适合学习的现实。故选B项。
根据倒数第二段中“People saw his skill and knew him as a gardener.(人们看到了他的技能,知道他是个园丁。)”以及倒数第四段“I don’t want any money for it,” said Johnnie. “I just want to do it.

【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.B
根据第一段“Jennifer Destefano answered a call from a number she did not recognize.
根据第二段中“When generating a recording, the system also offers a controller that allows users to choose between variability, a lifelike intonation (语调), and stability, similar to a calm newsreader, both accurate. (当生成录音时,系统还提供了一个控制器,允许用户在可变性(逼真的语调)和稳定性(类似于平静的新闻播音员)之间进行选择,两者都很准确。)”可知,生成的录音可以由用户自己选择可变性和稳定性,由此可知,克隆语音可以有多种风格。故选A项。
根据第三段中“Now, ever more people caught up in illegal behaviors will be attracted by the defence, “It wasn’t me.” (现在,越来越多被卷入非法行为的人会被“不是我”的辩护吸引。)”可知,克隆语音可能导致罪犯用它作为逃避惩罚的借口。故选C项。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Creative industries could face challenges too. Voice actors’ skills, trained over a lifetime, can be taken away in a matter of seconds. (创意产业也可能面临挑战。配音演员的技能,经过了一辈子的训练,可以在几秒钟内消失。)”和“But as the old saying goes, a coin has two sides. Val Kilmer, who has lost much of his voice to throat cancer, was delighted to have his voice restored for Top Gun: Maverick. And some others may be spared heading to the studio for retakes. (但正如那句老话所说,硬币有两面。Val Kilmer因喉癌失去了大部分声音,他很高兴能在《壮志凌云:独行侠》中恢复声音。还有一些人可能就不用去摄影棚重拍了。)”可知,语音克隆可能会夺走配音演员来之不易的技能,但也能帮助一些不幸失去声音的人恢复声音,避免摄影棚的重拍工作。由此可知,语音克隆对创意产业的影响是一把双刃剑。故选B项。

根据第一段“His change came from a late-night idea while working overtime, accompanied only by his long-haired cat Ultraman. “I was burdened by heavy civil case workloads, but Ultraman’s quiet comfort made me realize my strong interest in pet-related legal issues,” he recalled.(他的转变源于一次加班深夜的灵感,当时只有他的长毛猫奥特曼陪伴着他。他回忆道:“繁重的民事案件工作让我不堪重负,但奥特曼无声的陪伴让我意识到自己对宠物相关法律问题有着浓厚的兴趣。”)”可知,是宠物猫奥特曼的陪伴启发了崔灿,让他决定专攻宠物相关纠纷案件。故选C项。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段“One very sad case left Cui a deep memory: a young man’s dog died during a regular dental treatment because the clinic forgot pre-anesthesia (麻醉前) checks. The owner fell into severe depression and asked for an apology instead of just money, but the clinic refused to say it was wrong.(有一个令人痛心的案例给崔留下了深刻的印象:一名年轻男子的狗在一次常规牙科治疗中死亡,原因是诊所遗漏了麻醉前检查。狗主人陷入重度抑郁,他没有索要金钱赔偿,而是要求诊所道歉,但诊所却拒不认错。)”可知,对于这位狗主人来说,情感上的慰藉(道歉)比金钱更重要。故选D项。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段“While pets are increasingly seen as family members, legal protection is slow to follow. Without a special animal protection law, lawyers rely on unclear Civil Code rules, leading to light punishments for harm or carelessness. (虽然宠物越来越被视为家庭成员,但相关法律保护却滞后不前。由于没有专门的动物保护法,律师只能依据《民法典》中模糊的条款办案,导致对伤害或疏忽行为的惩罚力度较轻。)”可知,宠物法律保护面临的主要挑战是没有专门的动物保护法。故选C项。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文特别是第一段“27-year-old Cui Can, a lawyer working in Chengdu, made an unusual career choice in early 2023: specializing in pet-related disputes (纠纷). 第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】36.G 37.A 38.D 39.B 40.C

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A year later, I completed my first solo flight.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
①超过:outweigh/outbalance

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon.
