Six months ago, I was injured in an accident, leaving me with a brain injury. I was struggling to get through each day. Mostly I was tired. I even suffered from depression. I sat on the cold stone steps, feeling hopeless.
“Meow?”
I looked up. A black and white kitten with round green eyes looked back at me. His head stuck out from the bushes a few steps away. He meowed again. Then, leaping from his hiding spot, he ran right up to me. He rubbed up against my legs. When I reached down to pet him, he leaned into my touch, purring (打呼噜).
That was all it took. I broke down. I cried, the tears hot on my face in the rain. The kitten just watched me. I hadn’t scared him away. In fact, he stood there as if he knew how desperately I needed a friend. Right at that very moment.
I looked into his big green eyes and he looked back. He was clearly homeless. “When was the last time you ate?” I said, touching his wet fur. It occurred to me that I might not be able to tackle my own problems, but I could do something to fix his problems.
It became a routine: Every day, I’d go to the steps with a packet of cat food. Usually, the kitten was already waiting for me. Over time he inspired me to get help for my depression, and even gave me the confidence to fall in love with a nice girl, Becky, who also loved animals.
However, one day, I couldn’t see my usual dinnertime visitor. That lasted for several days. I felt so sorry for such a loss. Becky knew how much that cat had done for me. “Hopefully, he’ll turn up,” Becky tried to comfort me.
But he didn’t. I’d still go out most evenings to see if my little cat had returned, but he never did. I found myself imagining that he’d found a real family to go home to. And he deserved it.

The school festival was buzzing with excitement, all because of a new contest called “Innovate Your Way.” This contest was all about making a costume that was as unique and creative as possible, showcasing what one loves the most.
Lily Adams was surrounded by classmates with cool ideas. One classmate said excitedly, “I’m going to be the whole solar system, with planets circling around me!” One boasted (吹嘘), “I’ll redefine innovation. I will become a walking smartphone from the future, showing the digital age with interactive apps and games.”
Meanwhile, another one came up with the idea to dress up as a live weather forecast. He planned to attach LED screens to his outfit, displaying different weather patterns. This costume would not just show the weather but also change with real-time updates, combining technology and creativity in a way the festival had never seen.
Feeling overwhelmed, Lily wasn’t sure what to do. Her friends had such amazing ideas, and she hadn’t even picked a costume yet. She shared her worries with her friend Noah, saying,” I can’t make up my mind. Every idea seems too hard to do or just not exciting enough.”
Noah, always wise, had a great suggestion. “Why don’t you make a costume about gardening? You love it, and it’s something unique to you,” he said. Lily was unsure because the contest was just a few days away. “I don’t know if there’s enough time to make something like that from the beginning,” she worried. But Noah encouraged her, “You have a special talent for making something wonderful out of simple things. Use what’s around you.”
Inspired by Noah’s words, Lily thought over her collection of plants and flowers. Arriving home, she noticed the pile of old gardening magazines and a forgotten green tarp(防水布)in the garage.

Looking back at the high school days, I realize that they were the darkest yet the sweetest moments in my life. I felt extremely lonely there. Among the 790 new students, I didn’t recognize a single face from my middle school, and I struggled to make new friends.
At home, things weren’t much better. My little brother was too young to have anything to do with me. My elder brother was busy planning and preparing for his college life. My older sister was outgoing and never without her friends. Dad was working in a faraway city. Mom, who used to wait for me to come home and was always there to give me a big hug when I had to get the bad feelings off my chest, had also changed.
On the very first day I returned from school, she greeted me with criticism, “Carole, your bedroom’s a disaster. You’re grown up now! Can’t you keep it clean?”
At the moment, the last thing I needed was her criticism. I just wanted a big hug or a few heart-warm words from her.
“Mom, I...” I tried to explain, but a phone ring cut me off.
“One minute, Carole!” Mom said, turning to answer the phone.
I watched her discussing something with her editor. I saw her nodding her head now and then. Then she sat down by her desk to take notes. I knew she was a hardworking writer and a nice Mom who was strict with herself and devoted to us. I knew she’d been busy lately — but still, I couldn’t help feeling hurt and unseen.
Back to my room, I started to do my math homework. Unfortunately, I made one mistake after another that day.
“How stupid I am!” I thought bitterly.

Tom Young was on his way home from a hard day’s work at a construction site, carrying his worn-out hammer which had accompanied him through thick and thin. With each step, his mind was filled with worry as he racked his brain to find money for his seriously ill son, Andrew, who was in great need of heart surgery.
Tom had run out of choices and time. Desperation was beginning to set in, but he refused to let his son suffer helplessly. As he walked, the weight of his troubles pressed heavily on his shoulders. So desperate was he that he even heard a hum in his ears. The next moment the hum was entirely covered by a loud sound.
He turned in shock, and what he saw took his breath away. An expensive luxury car was wrapped around a big tree on the other side of the street, with its front twisted and flames starting to spring up from the car.
Without a second thought, he ran to the flaming car. He noticed that although the young lady in the driver’s seat did not seem to have been severely injured - apparently because of the open airbag - she was unconscious. Tom saw that the flames began to grow increasingly intense. He realized that he had to get the girl out of the car immediately because there was a high risk of the vehicle exploding at any time.
He grabbed the handle and pulled it, but the door was bent and did not open. He used all his strength and tried again, but in vain. It was a sports car, so it had only two doors, and the other one was blocked by the tree. He decided that he had to break the glass to take her out as quickly as possible. He struck it forcefully with his fist but realized that there was no way he could break the thick glass with bare hands, and the flames were getting bigger.

When I was in college, I experienced a very challenging time. Not only was I dealing with the difficulties of academic life, but I was also struggling with financial hardship. I was so poor that I often found myself without food. There were days when I would wake up with just a few coins in my pocket, and those coins were usually just enough to buy four loaves of bread. After that, I would have no idea where my next meal would come from.
I was desperate to find a way to make money and decided to try my luck applying for a part-time job. I spent hours reading the newspaper, searching for job advertisements, but in vain.
Despite all these difficulties, I didn’t want to give up hope. I knew that if I kept pushing and refused to quit, I would eventually find a solution to my problems. So I stuck to looking for more opportunities to earn a living. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t land a single interview. The more I tried to get a job, the more depressed and hopeless I felt.
One day, while making phone calls to apply for yet another job, I noticed someone else waiting behind me for the pay phone. He seemed kind of impatient, pacing back and forth with his hands behind his back. Ignoring him, I continued to try calling several times but I couldn’t get through somehow.
After a while, he cleared his throat and said coldly, “Other people have to use the phone, too, you know.” It was a simple statement, but it was enough to push me over the edge. I turned to this stranger and shouted, “See this bag on the floor? That has all my food in it! I don’t have a phone at home to call from! I’m sorry if your cell phone is broken, but whatever call you have to make is less important than my trying to come up with tomorrow’s meal!”

The engine made a weak noise like a sick dog. Thick smoke came out from under the hood (引擎盖), mixing with the yellow dust on the Montana grassland. I had driven for three hours to interview Jason, the local hero who had saved five people from a burning truck the previous Sunday. My car broke down on the road, and with my limited knowledge of cars, I really had no idea how to fix it.
As the sun went down behind the faraway hills, painting the sky orange and purple, a rundown pickup truck stopped behind me. A big man got out. He was very tall and strong, with muscles showing through his dirty work jacket. His face looked weather-beaten, with a thick beard (胡须) and serious eyes. A metal badge (徽章) was shining on his chest, but I didn’t know what it meant — perhaps from a work team or a local group.
“Need help, Miss?” the man asked. His voice was loud and worn out, as if he had been shouting a lot. In such a wilderness, I doubted his intentions. My heart raced so fast that I feared he might hear it. “My… my friend is coming,” I said, lying. I looked straight at the side mirror, hoping someone would appear there.
The man noticed my hesitation. He took out a dirty notebook from his pocket and tore out a page. I heard his pen scratch (发出沙沙声) as he wrote. Then he knocked on my window with the paper. “This is my number,” he said, holding it up. “Call if you need help.” He drove away, leaving me alone in the dark with the wind blowing through my broken car.
I called the official rescue service immediately. “You’ll wait two hours,” the operator said. “Or we can send a private team nearby.” After hesitating for a second, I made a quick reply, “Okay, send the private team.” The sky was getting darker, and I didn’t want to keep waiting in the dark wilderness.

Everyone at school called her “Silent Meher”, not because she couldn’t speak, but because she chose not to. Since childhood, Meher had struggled with a serious stutter (口吃). Whenever she tried to speak in class, her words were stuck in her throat. Her classmates made fun of her stutter, “H-h-h-h! M-M-Meher!” Even one of her teachers once said, “Just write it down, Meher; it’ll be faster.”
Meher learnt quickly that silence was safer. Thus she kept to herself, sitting in the classroom corner with her pad, where her pencil became her voice. She drew worlds where she could speak freely and no one judged her. Yet, no one even saw her art — not because she didn’t want them to, but because no one ever asked.
Then came the school’s yearly talent show. Posters everywhere read: “Find Your Voice!” How funny, Meher thought. But her art teacher, Miss Sofia, noticed the quiet girl always alone, always drawing. One day, she looked over Meher’s shoulder and what she saw took her breath away. “Meher...these are beautiful. Why don’t you hand them in to the talent show?” Meher shook her head in nervousness. “G-go on st-tage?” she stuttered, her voice shaky. “In f-r-o-nt- of th-em?” But Miss Sofia smiled gently, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “What if you didn’t have to speak...just show your story?” For the first time, hope sprang up in Meher’s eyes.
That night, an idea popped into Meher’s mind: animation! What if she told her story through animation? Over the next two weeks, she threw her heart into it. Using her pad and a borrowed screen from Miss Sofia, Meher created a short film called “The Girl Behind the Curtain”. The girl in the film stuttered, too, but every time someone made fun of her, a curtain grew taller around her. Slowly, with each kind word and moment of courage, the girl pulled holes in the curtain until sunlight shone through.

My little brother Roy and I grew up as kids in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our parents had little money, so even for Christmas, we never dared to hope for much. Then, one December, my father received an unexpected project award, meaning we would get real Christmas presents! It was the first time for me at nine years old.
I knew exactly what I wanted: a pair of cowgirl boots I’d seen in ads everywhere. Warm brown, fancy stitching (针脚) a thick heel. In the mornings, I walked over a mile to the school bus stop like a real cowgirl, pretending my old shoes had transformed into boots.
Mom and Dad put up our first real Christmas tree. Brightly wrapped presents started to appear under it. But I only had eyes for the long box with my name on it, just the right size for a pair of cowgirl boots. Every time I set eyes on it, it nearly drove me wild.
One afternoon before Christmas, I found myself home alone. I couldn’t wait any longer to know what was inside. I put the box on my lap and gently slid my fingers under the wrapping paper tape. If I was careful, I thought, no one would over know I had stolen a look at my boots inside. I pulled the box out of the paper and opened it — only to be disappointed. It wasn’t boots! I grasped another box, opened the wrapping, then another, and another. Still no boots! Rewrapping the gifts was simple enough. I carefully placed each box exactly where it had been before, then escaped to my room, feeling upset.
Later that evening, I heard my father shouting to Roy. “How could you do this? Don’t pretend you haven’t seen what’s inside!” My parents thought he was the one who had opened the presents. I was too afraid to tell even Roy the truth. I ruined Christmas for myself and for Roy too.

One day Albert found a baby bird lying on the ground, squawking (叫喊) for help. Feeling sad for the bird, Albert petted it gently and wanted to help it, but he didn’t know how since he was just 7 years old. So he took the bird in his hands, carried it carefully home and showed it to his parents. At once, his parents took action. They washed the bird and found it injured. With the help of his parents, Albert dressed the wound. But it would need time and care for the bird to completely recover. As the bird had become dear to his heart, Albert immediately offered to care for the bird.
Albert named his new friend “Lucky”. He began to feed the bird and he even ran out to collect grass to build a soft nest for the bird. Then, he put the nest beside his bed. Albert and the bird were sleeping together and living together. Soon they became close friends. Albert always told it about his experiences in school and his secrets. Lucky, an extremely patient audience, usually responded to him with a few nods and chirps (叽叽喳喳声). Albert’s parents also loved Lucky. They regarded it as a family member.
In the course of time, Lucky gradually recovered and started to hop (脚跳) and jump a little bit and exercise its wings. That made everyone happier. Soon it would be able to fly. How wonderful!
But what then? Albert became thoughtful and started to think. “If Lucky started to fly, it could simply fly away one day.” But that would not happen. Albert loved his friend so much that he couldn’t imagine parting with it. He wondered, “I should surely stay with Lucky forever. But how? Keep the windows closed all the time? That was not practical.”

Isha and Nisha were sisters. They studied and played together and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. Life went by happily for the two sisters. As they grew up, they couldn’t spend as much time together as before because they had made many new friends at school. Later, a rift (裂痕) developed between them, and they began to squabble (发生口角) over minor things.
After the sisters’ exams were over, their father decided to take them on a holiday. He asked the girls where they wanted to go. Nisha said excitedly that they should go to a mountain resort (旅游胜地). However, Isha argued that they should go to a national park since she had been longing to go there for many years. So their parents decided to take them to the national park. Nisha became very upset with Isha and said she would never speak to her because Isha always got things done in her own way.
After reaching the park, Nisha wandered around with a frown (皱眉) on her face. Her father noticed her low spirits and tried to comfort her, but Nisha remained unhappy. She kept thinking about her argument with Isha. Meanwhile, Isha felt guilty about what she had done but didn’t know how to make up for it.
In the afternoon Nisha’s father took her for a camel ride in order to cheer her up. Her mother and Isha chose to watch TV in the hotel room. As the TV played in the background, Isha’s mother’s phone rang. She picked it up and heard her husband’s panicked voice on the other end. She turned pale and her eyes widened with worry as she listened to what he was saying.
Isha knew that something bad had happened. After putting the phone down, her mother said Nisha had fallen down during the camel ride, had been hurt badly and sent to a nearby hospital. On the way to the hospital, Isha started having all sorts of thoughts. She felt remorse (自责) for all the squabbles and situations where she and Nisha had stopped speaking to each other.

John, a little boy, lived happily with his loving parents in a beautiful home. He was usually cheerful, but one day, his father found him crying quietly in a corner. Concerned, his father gently asked, “John, it’s time for school. What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
John looked up with tears in his eyes and said, “Dad, I have some problems in school.” These days he had been struggling with his math, which seemed impossible to understand. His teacher had scolded him for not paying attention in class, making him feel embarrassed and frustrated. In addition, some of his classmates had been teasing (嘲笑) him about his grades, calling him “slow”.
John’s father listened carefully, letting his son express his worries without interruption. He knew it was important for John to feel heard and understood. After John finished speaking, his father thought for a moment, and then said, “Come with me, John. I want to show you something.”
Curious but still upset, John followed his father to the kitchen. There, his father placed a potato and an egg into a bowl. He asked John to touch each item and describe how it felt. John hesitated but did as he was told, “The potato is hard and rough,” he said. “The egg is smooth and fragile (易碎的).”
His father smiled and then asked John to place the potato and egg into two separate pots. He filled each pot with water and set them on the stove (鼻子) to boil. John watched as the water boiled, unsure of what his father was trying to teach him. After a few minutes, his father turned off the stove and let the pots cool.
Once they were cool, John’s father asked him to touch the items again. This time, John noticed the changes. “The potato is soft now,” he said. “Its skin peels (剔落) off easily. The egg has become hard inside.”

I’d loved hip-hop dancing since my childhood, and in high school I took classes that focused on jazz and hip-hop. Dance was my favorite class, and I looked forward to it every day. This year, my senior year, was going to be the best dance class.
On the first day of dance class, however, I heard that the new ballet teacher, Ms. Barton, would be strict. Although nervous — I’d never taken ballet — I was up for the challenge.
We all stood at the barre (扶手杆) as Ms. Barton ran us through basic ballet steps — plié, tendu and dégagé. She was just how I had imagined a ballet teacher would be: excellent posture (姿势) with a strict attitude. During exercises, she demanded, “Grand plié!” Along with my fellow classmates, I began my grand plié, with one hand on the barre and the other extended elegantly to the side, slowly lowering myself. I wanted to give myself a pat on the back. But Ms. Barton gave me a stare.
“What is your name?” she asked.
“Sarah Brunner,” I responded with a smile.
“Class, I would like everyone to watch Miss Sarah do a grand plié,” she motioned for me to continue. All my classmates fixed their eyes on me in complete silence. Instead of praise, she told everyone, “This is an obvious example of what not to do.” A wave of pure embarrassment came over me, my face red and eyes watering.
I spent the rest of the day replaying this awful moment, wondering if I should quit. But my pride wouldn’t allow it. As I lay in bed that night, I knew I was going back. I could do it. I would show Ms. Barton.
I persisted (坚持) day by day, week by week, and I was proud to say that I was still standing by the end of the semester. I felt like Ms. Barton and I had developed an agreeable relationship. To everyone’s surprise — especially Ms. Barton’s — I chose to perform in her closing ballet piece in our final four-day show at our high-school theater.

It was an unusual exam that later shaped my whole life.
To prepare for it, I abandoned almost all my after-school activities. For three months, I studied from six in the morning until well into the night every day. Still, however hard I tried, a constant feeling of anxiety never went away, and it followed me into the exam room. It was the first challenge that knocked me down.
It was a French exam, and my seat number was 30, which meant I would be the last to receive the paper. The second challenge greeted me: I wasn’t very good at French and read more slowly than most other students, so I worried I wouldn’t have enough time to preview all the listening comprehension questions before the test began.
Although I had been told there would be two teachers, my heart still skipped a beat when I saw them on exam day. The female teacher seemed very cautious as she handed out the answer sheets. She carefully compared each student’s face with the photo on the examinee certificate, moving slowly and adding to my anxiety. While she continued to hand out the sheets, the male teacher stood in front of the platform with great seriousness in his eyes. When I tried to reach for my water to calm myself, the worst thing happened.
It is my habit to bring a bottle of water to an exam. However, on that particular day, I left home in a hurry and forgot it. Without water, my throat felt burning and my whole body dehydrated (脱水的). I was suffering from this physical discomfort, and the anxious, upset feeling only worsened as the sheets were handed out so unhurriedly.
What was only a few minutes felt like a century. Glancing around, I saw water bottles on the platform. The pain — both physical and mental — became unbearable when the teachers finished their processes and were about to return to the front of the classroom.

After graduating from university, I stayed and worked in Tokyo. The work here was extremely busy, with numerous tasks and tight deadlines. Although I visited my family in the USA once a year, I didn’t really give much thought to the changes my aging parents had been going through. Suddenly, my father passed away due to heart disease, leaving only one person behind: my mother.
My mother was a diabetic (糖尿病患者) in her mid-70s, a heart attack survivor with bad knees, and an independent lady whose English was increasingly declining as she grew older and lived alone. Her driving had become less stable, and she fell more often. I suggested she live in a nursing home countless times, but each time she firmly refused. She was very stubborn and unwilling to live with me, let alone with strangers.
I went back to visit her every year to provide companionship, but otherwise could only try to help from a distance. Sometimes my help led to more problems, such as when I arranged to have my mother’s medications mailed to her. This removed the one-hour drive that she had been making for years to a drugstore. As a result, she had to frequently walk unsteadily down her front steps and up a slope (斜坡) to get to her street-side mailbox.
Recently, her health condition worsened. I was extremely worried about her living alone, but I couldn’t afford to hire a full-time caregiver due to my limited income and the high cost of living in Tokyo. Therefore, I contacted the local senior services for light housekeeping services. However, there was a waiting list and it would be months before the services became available.
To my surprise, during the application process, my mother was assigned a social worker named Lori. I was very excited and immediately called my mother to share the good news, but she seemed unhappy. After much persuasion, she agreed to let Lori come and try.

【答案】Becky and I were shopping together one day when we came across an animal adoption event. “Come on! Maybe we can adopt one.” Becky said, holding my arm, like that little black- and- white kitten had done for me. Becky and I picked our way through the narrow space between the cages. Some of the cats pressed themselves against the bars, crying for attention. Others watched silently with wide eyes. When a black and white paw shot out from between the bars, touching me on the arm, I leaned down to get a better look at the lively cat inside. His green eyes met mine. I was stunned.
“Becky, it’s him!” I opened the cage and picked him up, holding him tight. He purred steadily, as if he knew there was no way I was letting him go again. I clearly remembered that he became my constant companion in my struggling days. As I went through the process of my depression, he was there. On bad days, he’d curl up in my lap and purr until I felt better. Now I was far from the lonely and depressed man he had first approached in the rain. Thanks to him and Becky, I had the support I needed and motivation to get where I am now. My greatest hope is to do for someone else what my cat did for me.

【答案】Each time I made a mistake, I would tear the paper out. By the time I finished my homework, the floor was covered with piles of waste paper and my bedroom seemed even messier. Strangely, the bigger mess gave me a sense of satisfaction I had never experienced before. I even cut some of the waste paper into tiny pieces and threw them under the bed. Then I closed the door violently and left home without a word.
I came home very late in the evening. But when I dragged myself to my bedroom and opened the door, I stopped in surprise — it was tidy and clean. Obviously, Mom had cleaned it up after I left. As I stood there, I realized that Mom’s love hadn’t changed at all. And slowly, my longing for a hug was gradually replaced by a feeling that I would only truly understand years later when I became a parent myself.

Time was running out, and his mind raced madly. In a moment of clarity, Tom remembered the worn-out hammer in his hand. It had been a reliable companion through countless days of labor, and now it was his only hope. With a determined swing, he smashed the hammer against the window, shattering the glass with a loud crash. Carefully, he reached into the vehicle, avoiding the jagged edges, and unbuckled the unconscious young lady. With all his strength, he pulled her out, dragging her a safe distance from the car just as the flames roared fiercely, engulfing the vehicle in a fiery blaze. Soon, Tom’s heroic deed went viral.
The girl was sad to know Tom’s trouble from the local news. She learned about his struggle to find money for his son’s heart surgery and felt a deep sense of empathy for his situation. Remembering how he had risked his life to save her, she decided to take action. With her family’s connections and resources, she organized a fundraising campaign to help cover the medical expenses for Andrew’s surgery. As word spread about Tom’s story, the community rallied together, contributing whatever they could. Grateful for the support, Tom felt a renewed sense of hope. The girl, now a friend, visited him in the hospital, bringing not just financial help but also encouragement. Their bond grew stronger, united by the challenges they faced and the lives they had touched.

【答案】 I turned back and tried to hold back my tears. But I was so sad that I broke down, failing to make it. I began sobbing uncontrollably. Then the soft sobs became replaced by loud cries. I felt hopeless about my future. “Why did everyone have a job expect me?” I can’t help thinking. Looking at me crying, the man was shocked. He was no longer impatient. He walked in and said, “I’m so sorry for my words. Everything will be OK. Don’t give up, and you’ll get a job soon.”
Putting a five-dollar bill in my hand, he left. This time, it’s my turn to be shocked. I had never thought somebody would express sympathy for me and encourage me to keep trying. Maybe things were not as bad as I imagined; maybe everything would be fine again if I just tried a little more. My sorrow disappeared. And I feel positive for my future again. After all, I still have five dollars!

【答案】One possible version:
Unexpectedly, it was the big man who came to the rescue. Without saying much, he walked to my car, lifted the hood, and started checking the engine. His rough hands moved carefully, as if he knew every little detail of the engine by heart. Sure enough, he completed the repair in just ten minutes. I thanked him repeatedly, then mentioned that I had actually driven there to interview Jason — a hero who had saved five people from a burning truck the previous week. Upon hearing my words, he glanced down at the metal badge on his chest and smiled softly. “You mean me? My name’s Jason,” he said.
Obviously, the man was the Jason I was going to interview. I was so surprised that I quickly held up my notebook and conducted the interview on the side of the road. During our talk, Jason shared the story of saving people, adding that he just did what he thought was right. It was at that moment that I realized: he was not only a brave hero, but also a kind, down-to-earth man. That unplanned meeting, filled with warmth, felt like a lovely surprise — and it brought home the truth of the old saying: “Heroes are made in the hour of need.”

On the night of the show, Meher stood nervously behind the stage curtain. Her heart was pounding like a drum and her palms were sweaty. When her name was called, she took a deep breath and walked onto the dark stage. With her animation appearing on the screen, the audience fell silent, totally absorbed in the story of the silent girl behind the curtain. When the final scene showed sunlight bursting through the holes, lighting up the girl's smiling face, all the people burst into thunderous applause. Meher stood in the spotlight, tears welling up in her eyes. He realized that she had finally been heard without uttering a single word.
After the show, classmates began approaching Meher and talking to her. “Your animation was amazing,” one girl said sincerely. “I never knew you were so talented.” Another boy added, “I’m sorry we made fun of you.” For the first time, there was respect in their voices when they spoke to her. Meher felt a wave of warmth spreading through her body as she smiled shyly at them. Though she still stuttered when she tried to speak, no one laughed at her. Instead, they waited patiently for her to finish, which gave Meher great courage. Since then, Mesher has become a confident, optimistic, and outgoing child who is not afraid to express herself.
范文二
On the night of the show, Meher stood nervously behind the stage curtain. She wouldn’t step on the stage, but her creation would. With the film beginning, the hall was in silence, then whispers, and then tears. When the final image disappeared and the simple words “By Meher” showed, the audience erupted into thunderous applause. Even the ones who had made fun of her stood up and clapped. Her “friends”, who used to copy her stutter, avoided eye contact now. But it wasn’t shame that made them look away, but a sudden, deep respect.
After the show, classmates began approaching Meher and talking to her. “That was so awe-inspiring,” someone said. “You’re really brave, Meher,” said another. One girl whispered, “I st-ut-ter t-o-” Meher met her eyes and offered a warm, understanding smile. She didn’t need to say much; the connection was already there, wordless but strong. From that day on, “Silent Meher” disappeared. Surrounded by warmth, kindness and understanding, she became confident and wasn’t the girl with the stutter anymore. She was the girl who told stories and shared laughter. She lived a life full of happiness and hope.

【答案】I lay awake that night, full of regret. I knew I should have told the truth instead of letting Roy take the blame. I felt so guilty and ashamed. I decided that as soon as I woke up the next morning, I would go to my parents and confess. I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, thinking about how I could make it up to Roy and my parents.
On Christmas morning, I saw a pair of cowgirl boots beside my pillow. I was shocked and confused. How could this be? I sat up and looked around. There was a note beside the boots. It said, “We know the truth, but we love you anyway. Merry Christmas.” I burst into tears. I ran to find my parents and Roy. I apologized to them and told them how much I loved them. We all hugged and laughed, and this Christmas became the most memorable one of my life.

However, as time passed, things took a turn for the worse. After a fully recovery, Lucky wanted to spread its wing sand fly in the sky. When all its attempts failed, what Lucky could do was sitting inside the little cage and squawking sadly. Several days later, Lucky refused to eat and drink.
Worried and confused, he didn’t know what to do about it. Knowing the bad situation, Albert’s parents decided to help Lucky and their son. They told their son, “If you really love Lucky, you should think of how to make it happy.” After careful consideration, Albert opened both his heart and the cage. Lucky was released and flew away. Two weeks later, a wonderful thing happened: Lucky returned, flying around Albert and chirped happily, seeming to say thanks to him. This had happened from time to time since then. “Life is like the boiling water in the pot.” John’s father said gently. Placing a hand on John’s shoulder, he pointed to the softened potato and the firm egg. “Difficulties, like math problems or teasing, are the boiling water. You can become soft like the potato, or you can grow strong inside like this egg. The choice is yours…son.” John looked into his father’s warm, encouraging eyes. He felt the heavy sadness in his chest slowly lighten, replaced by a spark of new understanding and courage. He knew which one he wanted to be.
“Now, I choose to be strong inside,” John whispered and went to school. He walked into his classroom, holding his head high. When a classmate laughed at him, John took a deep breath and smiled back calmly. In math class, he bravely raised his hand to answer a question. Even though his answer was wrong, he listened carefully to the correction. The challenges were still there, but John was no longer the same. He learned that true strength grows from facing life’s difficulties with a brave heart.

The big day for my performance came. My hands shook slightly as I waited backstage, the embarrassing memory of that first day flashing through my mind repeatedly. When the music started, I stepped onto the stage, eyes fixed on the spotlights. I moved through pliés, each step practiced hundreds of times. I danced not for applause, but for myself, pouring the determination I had built since that first day into the performance. As I finished the grand plié perfectly, the theater erupted in warm applause. My heart raced with a mixture of relief and pride.
When I stepped off the stage, Ms. Barton made her way to me smilingly. She placed a firm but gentle hand on my shoulder. “I’m truly impressed, Sarah,” she said, her usual strict tone gone. “That was graceful—you’ve worked incredibly hard.” I stared at her, surprised by her praise I had once thought impossible to earn from her. “Thank you, Ms. Barton,” I replied, grinning. She patted my shoulder softly. “Effort and persistence pay off,” she said. At that moment, I realized her strictness was never cruel, but a push to grow. Ballet, once a challenge, had become another passion—all thanks to her strict demands and my refusal to back down.

【答案】Finally, I picked up all my courage and raised my hand. “Is anything wrong?” The male teacher’s sweeping gaze met mine, and his voice cracked like thunder in the silent classroom. I lowered my head instantly under the other students’ stare. The female teacher turned around, but I instinctively shrank even lower. At last, I managed to stammer out the words that had been circling in my mind for what felt like centuries. “Could I have a bottle of water?” I heard her warm voice with a hint of laughter. “Of course,” The male teacher stepped down with the bottle, and what surprised me more was that he even twisted off the cap for me. “Does anyone need any help?” he asked, looking around. “We’re here for you.”
In an instant, my mind was set to rest. With the bottle in hand, I took a deep breath and began to skim the listening-comprehension questions. At first, I was still nervous and kept taking small sips of water, which miraculous y brought relief. An unexplainable force urged me to lift my head; the moment I saw the teachers, I heard a voice inside me say, “They’re doing their job, and I should do mine.” I turned back to my paper, and my uneasiness gradually ebbed away. When the bell finally announced the end of the exam, I watched the two figures methodically collecting the papers, and the anxiety inside me was replaced by pure warmth and gratitude. Since then, I have known the extraordinary power of an ordinary bottle of water.

Lori was far more helpful than I had expected. Realizing the complexity of my mother’s situation, she made regular home visits and spent a great deal of time carefully figuring out my mother’s needs. When it came to doctor appointments, she not only accompanied her but also made sure all the medical information was properly conveyed and understood. She arranged for a more convenient mailbox and mail delivery. Over time, my mother came to look forward to Lori’s visits. They built a trusting relationship with each other. It was a huge relief for me to see my mother better cared for.
A month later, I wrote a thank-you email to Lori. In it, I thanked her for all the wonderful things she had done for my mother. Soon after, I received her reply. She waved away my gratitude, saying that it was her job. She shared some stories of her time with my mother, and it was evident that she cared deeply about her well-being. She reassured me that she would continue to look after my mother and keep me updated on any changes. I realized how important Lori had become not just to my mother, but also to me. I felt a deep sense of gratitude toward her.

【答案】One possible version:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

【答案】范文一

【答案】范文
Then, he bought a small cage and kept Lucky in it. In the beginning, Lucky seemed fine inside it. He believed he had made the right choice to keep Lucky close and secure.
Instead of losing a forced friend, Albert had made a permanent one.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 They reached the hospital quickly. Nisha had been taken to the operation room. While waiting outside the room nervously, Isha recalled all the beautiful moments that she had shared with Nisha during their childhood and she just wanted her sister to be safe and healthy. After a long time, the doctor appeared and told them that Nisha would recover from her injury in two months, which made them feel relieved.
When Nisha regained consciousness, she saw Isha holding her hand. She was happy to see her sister beside her. She smiled weakly, her face pale. Isha’s eyes were filled with tears, and she said, “I’m so sorry, Nisha. I will never argue with you again.” Nisha said, “It’s okay, Isha. I’m just happy you’re here.” At that moment, they both knew that no matter how many disagreements they had, their bond was unbreakable. The warmth of Isha’s hand made Nisha realize that love could heal even the deepest wound.

【答案】例文

The big day for my performance came.

When I stepped off the stage, Ms. Barton made her way to me smilingly.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:

In an instant, my mind was set to rest.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
