5、 阅读理解
Go “back” in time
Is there a way to quickly recall (回忆) information just before taking an exam? Walking backwards might be a solution. Scientists from the University of Roehampton in the UK said this activity can help people improve their short-term memory.
Researchers asked 114 volunteers to watch a video. After watching the video, the volunteers were split (分成) into three groups. One group was told to walk 10 metres forward. The second group walked 10 metres backwards. The third group stood in one place. All three groups were then asked 20 questions about what they saw in the video.
The scientists found that the backward-walking group got two more answers correct than the other two groups.
This suggests that the link between the concepts (概念) of time and space is important in terms of how our minds form memories. “Time is really expressed via (通过) space,” Aleksandra, who led the study, told the Daily Mail. When you walk backwards, you see things from a different angle (角度) compared to walking forward. This difference helps people recall things that happened in the past.
And walking backwards is not just good for our brains. It is also good for the rest of our body. Compared to walking forward, walking backwards is more challenging. This can help us improve our fitness, according to New Scientist. Walking backwards uses more energy in a short time and burns more calories (卡路里).
In addition, walking backwards is less stressful for our knees. It could be helpful for people who often have pain in their knees, according to researchers from the University of Oregon in the US. Walking backwards also keeps our spines (脊柱) strong, which can help to ease (缓解) pain in the lower back. This might be why many old people like walking backwards.
46.What does “this activity” in paragraph 1 refer to (指的是)?
A.Recalling information. B.Taking an exam.
C.Walking backwards. D.Improving memory.
47.Which group got two more answers correct in the study?
A.The forward-walking group.
B.The backward-walking group.
C.The standing-in-one-place group.
D.All groups.
48.According to New Scientist, how can walking backwards be helpful?
A.It helps people remember information.
B.It allows people to see things in a new angle.
C.It helps people burn more calories.
D.It can ease pain in people’s knees and backs.
49.What do we know from the passage?
A.Walking backwards can help people in many ways.
B.Scientists suggest walking backwards for 10 metres every day.
C.Memories are formed when we do challenging activities.
D.Old people like walking backwards because it can help them lose weight.
6、 短文填空
阅读短文,在空白处填入一个适当的单词或用括号内所给词的正确形式填空,使短文通顺、连贯。
You might have a friend or a classmate who remembers every single detail. How can they make it? 50 good memory is often seen as something that comes naturally and a bad memory as something that cannot be changed. However, in fact, there are plenty of things that you can do 51 (improve) your memory.
First of all, interest is important when remembering things. We all agree that we don’t have difficulty 52 (remember) the things we are interested in. You can make yourself have more interest by asking questions—the more, the 53 (good)!
Secondly, researchers have so far found that information which is organized in groups can be 54 (easy) remembered. Try grouping similar knowledge together, or make a mind map of textbook reading to help group the information.
Moreover, when you’re learning new materials, you should spend the time thinking about the relationship 55 the present information and what you’ve already known instead of repeating without thinking. Then it helps you remember information.
Last but not least, physical exercise is also important for your memory 56 it increases your heart rate and 57 (offer) more oxygen (氧气) to your brain, and that makes your memory work better. Exercise also reduces stress which is very 58 (harm) to the memory.
So the next time you’re learning new information, you can use the methods above. I’m sure that you 59 (improve) your memory and get more out of it.
7、 任务型阅读
Have you ever wondered why a good night’s sleep helps you do better on a test? Scientists have discovered that while you are sleeping, your brain is still very active. It replays (重放) the day’s experiences without any interference (干扰) from new information. This replay process improves the connections among different parts of the brain, making memories clearer.
In other words, during sleep, your brain is not resting—it is working hard to organize and store what you have learned. At the same time, it also prepares itself to receive new information the next day. This double task makes sleep necessary for learning. Without enough sleep, your brain cannot perform these important tasks. That is why you may feel upset and forgetful after a poor night’s rest.
This finding changes our understanding of how memory works. To improve your memory, you don’t just need to review your notes. You also need to give your brain enough quiet time to process everything. So next time you stay up late studying, remember: A few more hours of sleep might be more helpful than a few more pages of reading. Try getting eight hours of sleep every night for a week, and you will notice a clear difference in your ability to remember things. Sleep is not wasted time—it is brain training time. Your brain thanks you for it. So, turn off your phone and go to bed early tonight.
60.What happens to your brain while you are sleeping?
61.Why is sleep necessary for learning?
62.How can you improve your memory according to the passage?
63.According to the writer, which is more helpful when you stay up late, a few more pages of reading or a few more hours of sleep?
64.How many hours of sleep does the writer suggest getting every night?
