Create a chart to show your group’s results. Display it and explain the results to the class. Below is an example.

Our group finds that being able to focus well and having deep motivation are the most important things for successful learners. Their average score is 9. We think that if we cannot focus, we will waste much time.
“Studying all the time” gets the lowest score of 2. We believe that studying non-stop makes us tired and it is not helpful. Other skills like taking notes and reflecting are also useful, but not so important.
Reflecting
1. What learning methods have you learnt?
2. Which learning methods do you think are good for you?
3. Can you use object clauses to express your opinions on learning?
4. Have you become more confident in learning? How so?
你学到了哪些学习方法?
你认为哪些学习方法适合自己?
你能用宾语从句表达自己对学习的看法吗?
你在学习方面变得更自信了吗?是如何做到的?
It is not just about what we need to learn,
but how we learn.
这不仅关乎我们需要学什么,更关乎我们怎样学。

The Problem of Procrastination
Cathy knew that she had an essay due on Monday. However, instead of beginning work on it today, she waited until the last minute and started on Sunday night. Of course, it was impossible to do a good job writing an essay in one night, so she got a bad grade. She then kicked herself for not starting earlier and promised to do better next time, but she didn’t.

Read para. 2 and complete the tasks.
Does Cathy’s story sound familiar? Like Cathy, many of us procrastinate—we put off doing something important until the last moment. But why do we do this? Some research shows that we procrastinate because of negative feelings, such as fear or worry. We are afraid of doing a poor job or getting bad grades. We think that we might fail. We put off doing the work in order to avoid having these bad feelings. Sadly, we are more likely to fail or do poorly when we procrastinate. This creates even more negative feelings and makes it more likely that we will procrastinate the next time.
1. According to the research, why do many people procrastinate? ( )
A. Because they are too lazy to do the work.
B. Because they want to avoid negative feelings like fear or worry.
C. Because they don't care about their grades at all.

Read para. 4 and complete the tasks.
So what can we do? Here are some tips. First, realize that once we face our fears and get started, our fears often go away, and we start to enjoy the work. Second, break large projects into small parts, each with their own smaller deadline. Take each thing step by step. Third, reward yourself for getting a step done. Relax or do something fun, then get back to work. Finally, remove temptation. This means if you watch TV to put off work, then work at
the library. If you chat with friends to put off work, then work alone and turn
off your phone. Find a place to work that does not have such distractions.
