Peter called his mum because he couldn’t remember what things she asked him to buy. He told her what he had got so far: butter, milk, eggs, and flour. But Mum said flour was not what she asked him to buy, so Peter decided to put it back. Mum asked if he bought any sugar because it was running out. Peter wondered how he forgot about the sugar. Mum also reminded him not to forget to buy strawberries, because she was going to make a strawberry cake. Finally, Mum told Peter that next time, he should take a shopping list.

Billy said sorry to Fu Xing because he forgot her birthday yesterday. Fu Xing said that was OK, but she noticed that Billy was forgetting quite a lot recently. Billy didn’t know why he was so forgetful. Fu Xing thought maybe he was too busy and offered to help. Just then, Billy realized he left his homework at home and needed to go back. Fu Xing said she would meet him at the school hall. Billy remembered that they were going to Professor Green’s lecture on how to improve your memory. Fu Xing reminded him that it would begin at 9:00, but Billy thought it was 9:30. Fu Xing said he really should go to that lecture on time.

When I read a new word, I usually connect it with the words I already know. For example, I know how to pronounce “ice”. So when I see the word “rice” or “price”, I can read them correctly.

Why should students put their brain to good use? What is your opinion?
Students should actively use their brain because the brain is like a muscle. It gets stronger with use. If we just passively listen or memorize without thinking, we forget quickly. But when we actively solve problems, make connections, and think critically, we leam better and remember longer. It also makes learning more interesting!
