五、阅读理解
(一)
Tibetan antelopes are among the most beautiful animals on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. They are famous for the soft, warm wool under their hair, which is called shahtoosh. It was the high price of this wool that almost brought the antelopes to extinction in the 1980s and 1990s.
At that time, hunters killed the animals in large numbers and sold the wool to traders, who made it into expensive shawls. In 1997, the government set up the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve in Qinghai and sent patrol teams to stop the illegal hunting. In the same year, the Tibetan antelope was listed as an endangered species.
The work of the guards has been hard and dangerous. They travel across deserts and high mountains in freezing weather, sometimes for weeks at a time. A film about their lives, Kekexili: Mountain Patrol, moved people all over the country when it came out in 2004.
Today, the number of Tibetan antelopes has grown from fewer than 70,000 to more than 300,000. In 2016, the species was moved from “endangered” to “near threatened”. “This shows that when people work together, we can bring animals back from the edge,” says one scientist who has studied the antelopes for twenty years.

In 2019, something surprising happened in Venice, one of the world's most visited cities. For the first time in years, people could see fish swimming in the city's canals. Why? Because the city was locked down during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the boats stopped.
This small event made scientists think about a much bigger question: how much do our cities affect the animals living around us? Around the world, cities are growing fast. About 55% of the world's people now live in cities, and this number is expected to reach 68% by 2050.
Big cities cause many problems for wildlife. Bright lights at night confuse birds and make it hard for them to find their way. Traffic noise prevents frogs and birds from hearing each other's calls, which they need for finding mates. Buildings and roads cut forests into small pieces, making it hard for larger animals to move around.
Some cities, however, are trying to change. In Singapore, new buildings must include plants on their walls and roofs, and “green bridges” allow animals to cross busy roads safely. In the Netherlands, a special bridge over a motorway lets deer and wild pigs pass over without danger. “A city doesn't have to be the enemy of nature,” says one planner. “With a little thought, it can become a shelter for nature too.”
6.Why could fish be seen in Venice's canals in 2019?
A. The water became cleaner because of a new law.
B. The city was locked down and the boats stopped.
C. People put fish into the canals.
D. The canals were newly built that year.
7.What percentage of people are expected to live in cities by 2050?
A. About 55%.
B. About 68%.

A. They help birds find more food.
B. They confuse birds and make it hard for them to find their way.
C. They make birds sleep longer.
D. They make birds grow faster.
9.What do Singapore and the Netherlands have in common?
A. They both have no wildlife.
B. They both try to make cities friendlier to animals.
C. They both have banned all cars.
D. They both are very small countries.
10.What is the main idea of the text?
A. Cities are always bad for wild animals.
B. Fish cannot live in city canals.

D. The COVID-19 pandemic helped all animals.
