Dear Mary,
I’m Li Hua, the president of the Student Union. I’m glad to hear that you plan to set up a new club. I suggest establishing a Cross-Cultural Exchange Club, whose purpose is to promote understanding among students from different cultural backgrounds.
The club can hold activities like cultural theme sharing sessions, where members introduce their own cultures. We can also organize cultural experience trips, which will be a lot of fun. As for the organization, we can have regular meetings and elect leaders who are responsible for planning activities.
I hope these suggestions can be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
Miss Smith went to visit Carol’s family later that day. Entering his house, Miss Smith was surprised to find there was only one room with a small bed and an old sofa. Carol was doing his homework on the sofa and his grandma was in bed. Obviously, they were leading a very hard life. When asked why he had given the two coins, he said, “There are people poorer than me, so I just want to give them some help.” Hearing his words, she couldn’t help bursting into tears.
The next day, Miss Smith had a special class for Carol. She didn’t mention Carol’s family situation publicly, but held up the two coins and told the whole class that Carol’s quiet kindness was the most precious Christmas gift they had received. All the students clapped warmly, and they walked over to put their own small handmade Christmas cards on Carol’s desk. For the first time since he came to this class, Carol looked up, his eyes glistening, and said a soft “thank you” out loud. The thick wall of silence that had wrapped around him for months finally crumbled.

根据第二段的第一句“In England and Wales the subjects taught in schools are laid down by the National Curriculum, which was introduced in 1988 and sets out in detail the subjects that children should study and the levels of achievement they should reach by the ages of 7,11,14, and 16, when they are tested.(在英格兰和威尔士,学校教授的科目是由1988年引入的国家课程规定的,该课程详细规定了儿童应该学习的科目以及他们在7岁、11岁、14岁和16岁考试时应该达到的成绩水平。)” 故选A项。
根据第四段的句子“In Scotland students take the SCE examinations. A year later, they can take examinations called Highers, after which they can either go straight to a university or spend a further year at school and take the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies.(在苏格兰,学生参加SCE考试。一年后,他们可以参加Highers考试,之后他们可以直接上大学,也可以在学校再学习一年,并获the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies)”可知,GCSE苏格兰的学生无关。故选A项。
根据第三段第一句“At 16, students in England and Wales take GCSE examinations.(16岁时,英格兰和威尔士的学生参加普通中等教育证书考试。)”和最后一句“At 18 some students take A-level examinations, usually in no more than three subjects. It is necessary to have A levels in order to go to university.(有些学生在18岁时参加A-level考试,通常不超过三门科目。为了上大学,必须有A级考试。)”可知,在英格兰和威尔士,没有A级考试就不能上大学。故选C项。

【导语】文章主要讲述了作者时隔三十年回访母校,发现校舍焕然一新、教学氛围更加宽松的转变。
24.推理判断题。根据第一段中“As I walked up the school drive, I wondered for a moment if I had come to the right address.(当我沿着车道走向学校时,我一度怀疑自己是否走错了地方)”可知,作者差点以为自己走错了,说明很难认出母校了。
根据第一段中“I had expected to find changes, but not a completely different building.(我预料到会有变化,但没想到会是完全不同的建筑)”可知,作者并没有预料到学校会发生彻底的改变。
根据第二段中“And above all, I recalled Mr Garston whom we had nicknamed “Mr Ghastly”, the headmaster who had iron discipline on staff and pupils alike.(最重要的是,我想起了加斯顿先生,我们给他起了个绰号叫“可怕的先生”,这位校长对师生都有着铁一般的纪律)”可知,“Mr Ghastly”就是那位严厉的校长。
根据第三段中“The rooms now were painted in bright colors, and the children, far from sitting straight in their places, seemed almost free to do as they liked. I looked with envy as I remembered how, as a child, I had looked at the blackboard hardly daring to whisper to my neighbor.(房间现在漆成了鲜艳的颜色,孩子们不再笔直地坐在自己的位置上,似乎几乎可以随心所欲地行动。

结合第一段“Over the past decades, experts have done a considerable amount of research to explore different ways to encourage children’s learning. Especially, there has been a common focus on how physical activity, separated from the learning activities, can improve children’s learning. However, there has been less of a focus aimed at the potential of integrating (合并) physical activity into the learning activities.(在过去的几十年里,专家们做了大量的研究来探索鼓励孩子学习的不同方法。特别是,从学习活动中分离出来的体育活动如何提高孩子的学习能力,已经成为人们共同关注的焦点。然而,很少关注将身体活动融入学习活动的潜力。)”可知,第一段的目的是介绍本研究的背景。故选C项。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段“Both the math and basketball elements could be adjusted to suit the children’s levels, as well as being adjusted for whether it was addition, multiplication or some other operations that needed to be practiced, (数学和篮球元素都可以根据孩子的水平进行调整,也可以根据是否是加法、乘法或其他需要练习的运算进行调整)”可知,可以根据不同要素进行调整,由此可知,这项研究是根据个人需要设计活动的。故选B项。
根据第五段“The results showed that children’s motivation (动力) for math integrated with basketball was 16% higher compared to classroom math learning.(结果显示,与单纯的数学学习相比,儿童对篮球结合数学学习的动力提高了16%)”可知,篮球使参与者学习数学的动力提高了。故选A项。
根据最后一段““We are planning to do research to examine whether the Basketball Mathematics model can strengthen performance in mathematics. Once we have the final results, we hope that they will inspire school teachers and principals to prioritize (优先处理) more physical activity and movement in such subjects. Eventually, we hope to succeed in putting these tools into school system and teacher education,” says Associate Professor Jacob Wienecke.(“我们计划进行研究,以验证篮球数学模型是否可以加强数学成绩。一旦我们有了最终的结果,我们希望它们能激励学校的老师和校长在这些科目中优先考虑更多的身体活动和运动。最终,我们希望将这些工具成功地应用到学校系统和教师教育中,”Jacob Wienecke副教授说)”可知,Jacob Wienecke希望能激励学校的老师和校长在这些科目中优先考虑更多的身体活动和运动,即Jacob Wienecke希望通过将体育活动融入教学来帮助教育者。故选C项。
32.B 33.D 34.A 35.C
根据第三段“Before we think about rule boundaries (界线) for teenagers, we need to make sure that we have a really good relationship base. There's no point saying “From now on, you have to listen to me” (在我们考虑青少年的规则界限之前,我们需要确保我们有一个非常好的关系基础。说“从现在开始,你必须听我的”是没有意义的)”可知,家长与孩子后期建立规则界限的关键是跟孩子有良好的关系基石。故选B。
33.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The more detailed your rule boundaries are for teenagers, the more likely it is that they are going to follow them. (你为青少年制定的规则越详细,他们就越有可能遵守这些规则。)”可知 D选项“5点前完成作业。”规则最详细,故选D。
34.词义猜测题。根据画线词后“This is not the right time to be dealing with it. Were ally want parents and teenagers to sit down and think about the kinds of things that may happen in the house before the problems come. (现在不是处理这件事的时候。我们希望父母和青少年在问题出现之前坐下来想想家里可能发生的事情。)”可推断上文意思是我们经常在匆忙中处理冲突,所以画线词意思是“匆忙地”,和In a hurry的意思最为接近。故选A。
通读全文,尤其第一段“Conflict (冲突) between teenagers and parents happens for a lot of reasons. Sometimes conflict happens between teenagers and parents just because conflict happens between human beings anyway. Humans have different needs, different feelings, different opinions about what they want, and the relationship with people can be really difficult. However, teenagers can cause further conflict because of the hormonal (生理的) changes that are happening and the stage of life that they're in.

The moment my senior high school started可知,事情发生在过去,应用一般过去时,且主语my heart与fill之间是被动关系,be filled with为固定短语,意为“充满”,所以用一般过去时的被动语态,其结构为“was/were +过去分词”,主语是单数,所以用was filled。故填was filled。
故填to。

In Britain all children have to go to school between the ages of 5 and 16.In the US children must
go to school from the age of 6 to the ages between 14 and 16,depending on the state they live in.
Subjects
In England and Wales the subjects taught in schools are laid down by the National Curriculum,
which was introduced in 1988 and sets out in detail the subjects that children should study and the levels
of achievement they should reach by the ages of 7,11,14,and 16,when they are tested. The National
Curriculum does not apply to Scotland, where each school decides what subjects it will teach.
Examinations
At 16,students in England and Wales take GCSE examinations. These examinations are taken by
students of all levels of ability in any of a range of subjects, and may involve a final examination,an
assessment of work done during the two-year course,or both of these things. At 18 some students take
A-level examinations, usually in no more than three subjects. It is necessary to have A levels in order to
go to university.
In Scotland students take the SCE examinations.A year later, they can take examinations called
Highers, after which they can either go straight to a university or spend a further year at school and take
the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies. In Scotland the university system is different from that in England
and Wales.Courses usually last four years rather than three, and students study a large number of
subjects as part of their degree.

After an absence of thirty years,I decided to visit my old school again.I had expected to find
changes, but not a completely different building. As I walked up the school drive,I wondered for a
moment if I had come to the right address. The dirty red brick houses had been swept away.In its place
stood a bright, modern block.A huge expanse of glass extended()across the face of the building
and in front,,there was a well-kept lawn(岸t坪)where there used to be“an untidy gravel(砾石)yard”.
I was pleased to find that it was break time and that the children were all in the playground. This
would enable me to meet some members of staff. On entering the building,I was surprised to hear loud
laughter coming from what appeared to be the masters'common room.I could not help remembering the
teachers in my time, all dressed in black gowns and high collars. And above all,I recalled Mr Garston
whom we had nicknamed"Mr Ghastly",the headmaster who had iron discipline on staff and pupils alike.
I knocked at the common room door and was welcomed by a smiling young man who introduced
himself to me as the headmaster. He was dressed casually in a sports jacket, and his cheerful manner,
quickly dispelled (the image of Mr Ghastly. After I had explained who I was,the headmaster
presented me to the teachers'all of whom were a little younger than himself, and said he would take me
round the school.
Here the biggest surprise of all was in store for me.Gone were the heavy desks of old with their
deeply carved names;gone too, were the dark classrooms with their ink stained, dark brown walls, and
their raised platforms for the teachers. The rooms now were painted in bright colors, and the children, far
from sitting straight in their places, seemed almost free to do as they liked.I looked with envy as I
remembered how,as a child,I had looked at the blackboard hardly daring to whisper to my neighbor.

Over the past decades, experts have done a considerable amount of research to explore different
ways to encourage children's learning.Especially, there has been a common focus on how physical
activity, separated from the learning activities, can improve children's learning. However, there has been
less of a focus aimed at the potential of integrating (physical activity into the learning activities.
Researchers from the University of Copenhagen conducted the Basketball Mathematics study at
five Danish primary and elementary schools. The main purpose of it was to develop a learning activity
that integrates basketball and mathematics and examine how it might affect children's motivation for
mathematics.
756 children from 40 different classes participated in the project, where about half of them-once
a week for six weeks-had Basketball Mathematics during gym class, while the other half played
basketball without mathematics.
"During classes with Basketball Mathematics, the children had to collect numbers and perform
calculations (associated with various basketball exercises. An example could be counting how
many times they could sink a basket from three meters away vs at a one-meter distance, and adding up
the numbers. Both the math and basketball elements could be adjusted to suit the children's levels,as
well as being adjusted for whether it was addition, multiplication or some other operations that needed to
be practiced,"explains Linn Damsgaard,a leading researcher.
The results showed that children's motivation()for math integrated with basketball was 16%
higher compared to classroom math learning.Children also experienced a 14%increase in
self-determination compared with classroom teaching.Meanwhile Basketball Mathematics improved
their math confidence.
"We are planning to do research to examine whether the Basketball Mathematics model can
strengthen performance in mathematics.Once we have the final results,we hope that they will inspire
school teachers and principals to prioritize (more physical activity and movement in such
subjects.Eventually,we hope to succeed in putting these tools into school system and teacher education,"
says Associate Professor Jacob Wienecke

Conflict (between teenagers and parents happens for a lot of reasons.Sometimes conflict
happens between teenagers and parents just because conflict happens between human beings anyway.
Humans have different needs, different feelings, different opinions about what they want, and the
relationship with people can be really difficult. However, teenagers can cause further conflict because of
the hormonal changes that are happening and the stage of life that they're in.
Teenagers and parents have different understanding about rules and at times they find it difficult to
look into the future. So parents and teenagers will often experience conflict about many things. From
chores, homework, whether teenagers speak respectfully or not, about what they're allowed to do-these
are all the kinds of things that I hear teenagers and parents tell me about.
Before we think about rule boundaries for teenagers,we need to make sure that we have a
really good relationship base. There's no point saying "From now on,you have to listen to me":if you
don't have a positive relationship with your teenager. We need to go back and make sure there is some
degree of shared respect, and some degree of positive communication and enjoyment being together.you
do that first,it means that rule boundaries are a lot easier to set up.
Often we're dealing with conflict on the fly. This is not the right time to be dealing with it.We
really want parents and teenagers to sit down and think about the kinds of things that may happen in the
house before the problems come. The more detailed your rule boundaries are for teenagers, the more
likely it is that they are going to follow them.So this means we don't have rule boundaries like "Have
the bathroom cleaned".It needs to be "The floors mopped, nothing on the countertop and the mirrors
cleaned by ten o'clock every Saturday":Rule boundaries need to be written down, and set out ahead of
time so the teenager knows exactly what's expected.
32.What's important to set up a rule boundary easily for teenagers?
A.Being strict from the start.
B.Developing a good relationship with them first.
C.Saying"No"to their requirements.
D.Avoiding close talks with them.
33.Which of the following rules are teenagers most likely to follow?
A.Doing some housework.
B.Having a good reading habit.
C.Cleaning the bathroom.
D.Finishing your homework by five.
34.What do the underlined words"on the fly"in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.In a hurry.B.On the plane.
C.By oneself.
D.Another day.
35.What's the best title for the text?
A.Growing Pains
B.Teenage Problems

Exam Anxiety
Has this ever happened to you? You've been studying hard for your midterm, but when you walk
into your exam, your mind goes blank, your heart races fast, you get sweaty palms and find it hard to
breathe.36Everyone feels anxious during exams.Usually,it results from a fear of failure, lack
of adequate preparation time, and bad experiences taking tests in the past.
This is normal and often helps you work harder, think faster, and generally improve your
performance.37You may also feel that other people are managing the exam better than you
This can cause you to feel that your mind has "gone blank"on information you know you have
reviewed.
38Some choose to ignore the problem, while others don't review because they think they
will do badly anyway-and some even miss exams due to the anxiety. It can also be really easy to think
that if you don't try and then you fail, you won't feel as bad as if you fail after trying really hard.
So what can you do to fight against the negative mindset and stay calm before and during your
test?
39Yes,this seems obvious,but it's worth repeating.If you feel confident that you've
prepared thoroughly, you'll feel more confident walking into the test. The second tip is simple:just start.
The blank page can maximize your anxiety.40 You can always go back and change things
later if needed, but a few quick answers can get the ball rolling.Besides, allocating your time is equally
important.Look through the whole test before getting started.Mentally allocate how much time you'll
spend on each section. If there's time to recheck, even better.
A.However,if you are overly anxious about the result, you may be unable to focus on your work.
B.Realizing time is almost up and that there's still a lot of blank space will make you desperate.
C.After you get the paper, get some questions done right away to build up your confidence.
D.Therefore, people need an appropriate amount of pressure to help deal with exams.
E.If these classic signs of exam anxiety sound familiar, you're not alone.
F.People often deal with exam stress in many unhelpful ways.
G.The first thing you should do is to be prepared.

From the first day he entered the classroom,Carol existed (in his own world, shutting out
his classmates and teachers. His math teacher Miss Smith tried to build a friendly relationship with him,
but it was useless.Carol seemed to have no desire or need to break his silence().
Soon after the Thanksgiving holiday, the school held the yearly Christmas collection of money for
the poor people in the school.
"Christmas is a season of giving,"Miss Smith told her students."There are a few students in the
school who might not have a happy holiday season.By contributing to our Christmas collection, you
will help buy food, clothing and toys for these needy people. We will start the collection tomorrow."
When Miss Smith called for the contributions the next day,she discovered that almost everyone
had forgotten except for Carol. The boy dug deep into his pants pockets as he walked slowly to Miss
Smith's desk.Carefully,he dropped two coins into the small box.
"I don't need milk for lunch,"he said in a low voice.For a moment,just a moment,he smiled.
Then he tumned and walked back to his desk. That night, after school,Miss Smith took their few
contributions to the school principal ()She couldn't help sharing the thing.
"I may be wrong, but I believe Carol might be getting ready to become a part of the world around
him,"Miss Smith told the principal.
"Yes,"he nodded."And we might do well to have him share a bit of his world with us.I just
received a list of the poor families in our school who most need help. Here, take a look at it."
