定语从句复习教案-2026-2027学年人教版高中英语选择性必修第三册Unit5 Period2 Review Useful Structures
人教版高中英语选择性必修第三册 · Unit 5 Poems · Period 2 Review Useful Structures
Stage 1 Lead-in
Teacher: Good morning, everyone. We learned about relative clauses in junior high. What words can introduce a relative clause? Please call out any words you remember.
Students: We call out the relative words we remember, such as who, which, that, when, where, and why.
设计说明:用旧知识引入,先摸摸学生还记得多少,也自然过渡到今天要复习的内容。
Part 1 Warm-up
Activity 1 Fill in the blanks with a proper relative word.
Teacher: Please do the six fill-in-the-blank sentences on your own first. You have three minutes. After that, we will check the answers together.
Students: We fill in the blanks individually, then check the answers with the teacher.
1. The poet ________ gave us a talk yesterday is from Britain.
2. This is the small town ________ Robert Frost once lived and wrote his early poems.
3. Do you know the reason ________ he wrote this sad love poem?
4. I really like the poem ________ lines are full of vivid natural images.
5. I still remember the day ________ I read my first English poem aloud.
6. The poet ________ you saw at the lecture won the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature.
设计说明:先做6个填空把学生脑子里零散的词归位,弱班也能跟,不至于一开始就卡壳。
Activity 2 Look at the words below. First discuss with your partner what each one refers to, then complete the table.
Teacher: Here are eight relative words on the board: who, whom, whose, which, that, when, where, why. Please first discuss with your partner what each word refers to, then complete the classification table in your study guide.
Students: We discuss with our partner what each relative word refers to, then complete the table.
who whom whose which that when where why
For people
For things
Possession
For time
For place
For reason
设计说明:破重点(关系代词/副词选用)——先口头讨论再填表,弱班也能跟。把零散的词按功能归位,为后面找规则打基础。
Part 2 Discover the Rules
Read the examples carefully and find the rules yourself.
Activity 1 Restrictive or non-restrictive?
Teacher: Please look at Pair A and Pair B. Do NOT worry if I give you the rules first. Read the pairs carefully, discuss with your partner, and answer the questions. I will ask you to share your findings.
Students: We read the pairs, discuss with our partner, answer the questions, and share our findings.
Pair A
(a) The poem that the teacher recommended yesterday is well worth reading.
(b) The poem, which the teacher recommended yesterday, is well worth reading.
(1) What is different in the punctuation?
(2) In (b), can we change which into that? Why?
(3) Which sentence gives extra information that could be left out?
Pair B
(a) Wordsworth's poems that are about nature are widely read in schools.
(b) Wordsworth's poems, which are about nature, are widely read in schools.
(1) In (a), does the speaker mean all of Wordsworth's poems or only some? How about in (b)?
(2) Complete: A restrictive clause has ________ (no / some) commas and tells us which person or thing. A non-restrictive clause has ________ commas and adds extra information. In non-restrictive clauses, we use which / who / whose, but never ________.
设计说明:破难点(非限制不能用that)——不让老师讲,学生自己看两组对比句找区别。Pair B 用华兹华斯的诗举例:没逗号=他写的诗里关于自然的那些(还有别的题材),有逗号=他所有的诗都是关于自然的。前测里非限制用that是最高频错点,就在这里拆。
Activity 2 When must we use “that” instead of “which”?
Teacher: Now please study these seven sentences. Work in pairs and find the pattern — when must we use that instead of which? Then complete the summary blanks together.
Students: We study the seven sentences, work in pairs, find the pattern, and complete the summary.
Study these sentences and find the pattern.
1. Is there anything that touches you deeply in this poem?
2. The first poem that we will read in this unit is by Li Bai.
3. This is the most moving poem that I have ever read.
4. The only poet that I really admire is Robert Frost.
5. The collection includes the poems and poets that the students love most.
6. Who is the poet that is giving the lecture?
7. All that remains of the old poet is a few yellowed manuscripts.
Complete the summary:
We use that when the antecedent is —
① an ____________________ (anything, everything, nothing, all…)
② modified by an ____________________ (the first, the last…)
③ modified by a ____________________ (the best, the most beautiful…)
④ modified by ____________________ (the only, the very…)
⑤ ____________________ (both people and things together)
⑥ after the question word ____________________
设计说明:破重点(that与which区别)——7个例句对应6种必须用that的情况。前测里最高级后误用which是高频错点,第3句直接对着拆。
Activity 3 The tricky one — preposition + which / whom
Teacher: Now look at these two sentences. They mean the same thing, but the word order is different. Please answer the questions. I will ask: “Where is the preposition in (a)? Where is it in (b)?” And “After a preposition, can we use that?”
Students: We read the two sentences, answer the questions, and complete the summary.
Look at the two sentences. They mean the same thing, but the word order is different.
(a) This is the cottage which / that Robert Frost once lived in.
(b) This is the cottage in which Robert Frost once lived.
(1) Where is the preposition “in” in (a)? Where is it in (b)?
(2) In (b), can we use that after “in”? Why?
(3) Rewrite in the formal way: The poet who / whom you spoke to is a Nobel Prize winner.
→ The poet to ________ you spoke is a Nobel Prize winner.
Complete: When a preposition moves to the front, we use ________ for things and ________ for people. We never use ________ after a preposition.
设计说明:破难点(介词+which/whom)——这是学生最容易懵的地方。先看in从句尾挪到前面,再问介词后面能不能用that,学生自己得出结论。前测里介词后用who是高频错点,第(3)题直接对着练。
Part 3 Practise
Activity 1 Combine each pair into one sentence with a relative clause.
Teacher: Now let's practise. Please combine each pair of sentences into one sentence with a relative clause. You have four minutes. After that, we will check the answers.
Students: We combine the pairs of sentences individually, then check the answers.
1. Li Bai is a Chinese poet. He wrote many famous nature poems in the Tang Dynasty.
2. He was born in Sichuan. Sichuan is home to many Tang poets.
3. The Tang Dynasty was a period. Chinese poetry reached its peak in this period.
4. His poems are still read today. They were written over a thousand years ago.
5. The reason is his deep love of nature. He wrote so many poems for this reason.
6. The poet collected many folk songs. The songs provided materials for his poems.
设计说明:学完规则马上练。李白的诗句覆盖关系代词、关系副词、非限制性,一题一个考点。
Activity 2 Find the mistake in each sentence and correct it.
Teacher: Now please find the mistake in each sentence and correct it. You have four minutes. These six sentences are based on the most common mistakes students made in our last test.
Students: We find and correct the mistakes individually, then check the answers.
1. The poet which is talking to our teacher is from Britain.
2. This is the poetry museum where we visited last week.
3. I will never forget the day which I first read this poem aloud.
4. The poem, that was written in 1900, is still popular today.
5. The poet to who you spoke is a professor from Beijing.
6. This is the most moving poem which I have ever read.
设计说明:破重点+破难点综合练——改错6道题直接盯着上次作业错最多的点出:which指人、where接及物动词visit、非限制用that、介词后用who、最高级后用which。一道题对一个前测错点。
Activity 3 Fill in the blanks in the passage.
Teacher: Now please fill in the blanks in this short passage. This time you need to use the rules in a connected text, not just single sentences. You have four minutes.
Students: We fill in the blanks in the passage individually, then check the answers.
Last week, our class visited the National Poetry Museum, ________ is famous for its collection of ancient Chinese poems.
The first exhibition ________ we saw was about Tang poets, ________ were considered the greatest poets of China.
The guide ________ introduced the exhibition was herself a young poet.
I still remember the day ________ I read Li Bai's poems for the first time.
That was the reason ________ I fell in love with classical Chinese poetry.
设计说明:语篇填空放在最后,在连贯段落里综合用一遍规则,不能只停留在单句。
Self-check
Teacher: Before class is over, please tick the self-check list. If there is anything you are not sure about, please ask me now.
Students: We tick what we can do, and ask questions if anything is still unclear.
Tick what you can do now:
☐ I can choose the right relative pronoun or adverb.
☐ I know when to use that and when to use which.
☐ I can tell restrictive from non-restrictive clauses.
☐ I can use preposition + which / whom correctly.
☐ I can find and fix mistakes in sentences with relative clauses.
