Robbie Phillips is a top climber from the UK. But no one in his family was a climber before him. His uncle was a professional (职业的) football player, and so is his cousin. His brother is a mountain biker.
Robbie started climbing when he was 15. He joined his school’s climbing club, and that was how his story began. His school had a long history of climbing. A great climber from his school, Robin Smith, encouraged him a lot.
After finishing high school, Robbie didn’t know what to do next. He thought, “Why not take climbing as my job?” At that time, he didn’t think he was good enough to be a professional climber. So, he first worked as a climbing coach. He found it was fun because it was like getting paid to climb. He also thought it was much better than sitting in front of a computer all day.
Like many climbers, Robbie also faced challenges. A few weeks after he began climbing, he walked his dogs near some big rocks. He saw a rock that looked easy to climb and started climbing it. Halfway up, he saw a bird’s nest and stopped for too long. Then he slipped (滑倒) and almost fell. He was about 10 meters above the ground! He learned an important lesson: climbing is not always as easy as it looks.
18. When did Robbie start climbing?
A. When he finished high school. B. When he met Robin Smith.
C. When he worked as a coach. D. When he was fifteen years old.
19. According to the passage, how did Robbie Phillips start climbing?
