So I signed up for the class and enjoyed studying something exciting and different on Monday evenings. I slowly got my head around tones after hours. Of repeating A, O and E with my classmates, writing the characters was my favorite part as I thought they were so beautiful. I would spend 20 minutes writing one sentence so that it was as neat as possible. A year later, I was given the opportunity to participate in the British council Chinese speaking competition. My group performed a play called Mulan and was selected to go to the national finals. This was my first achievement in my Chinese journey and all the effort paid off.

【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C

【原文】M: You’ve probably heard the word “breakfast” before, but do you know where the word came from? Well, today we’ll be talking about the most common words for meals. Breakfast is the first meal of the day and it’s eaten in the morning. But where did it come from? Well, a long time ago, people used to say “break a fast”. Basically, “to fast” means not eating and when you “break a fast”, you stop fasting and eat. So, you fast all night long, and then eat in the morning. And this is why we say “breakfast” today. Dinner or supper, which one do you say? In the US, both are used for the evening meal. But in some parts of the world, there is a difference. Supper actually means the meal that you eat in the evening, and you’ll hear this more in southern parts of the US. On the other hand, dinner means the largest meal of the day. So, technically, you could say you had dinner at noon.

A. Look up English words.
B. Show English grammar.
C. Offer listening practice.
20. What is the speaker’s advice on learning English words?
A. Writing an article with them.

C. Trying to guess their meanings.
【答案】19. A 20. B
【解析】
【原文】M: Hello! I’m Bob. Today I’d like to share my habits of learning English. First, learn three words for a day. There’s a tool called wholedic.com, where I often look up the words and their meanings. Then, write sentences using the words. Besides, use those words more in your English speaking during the day. Another of the things that I do is finding something to read in English every day for at least 15 minutes. This is the way that we can develop better grammar and listening comprehension. Do you know how many words are in English? A million? Do you need to learn all of them? No. Just learn as many as you can or at least the ones you meet more than once. In short, keep reading and learning. A single method or only a short period is less effective.
二、阅读理解:本大题共15小题,共37.5分。
A
Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus feeling nervous even though I had walked these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked and felt different now that I was in senior high.
I looked at my schedule. First period — German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I liked her from the beginning. What I didn't like, though, was that I was surrounded by students from other grades, with only five familiar faces.
Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second period — biology. Our teacher's name is Ms.Compeau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying “be quiet,” she says “alligator.” She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators are the“king of the swamps (沼泽).”
My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr.V.,my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40 ESSAYS? AP-level books? Now I was scared. He also talked about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused”year for me. While doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation on Facebook. I planned on stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honor student.
21. What did the author mainly write about in this passage?
A. Her new teachers. B. Her plan for the new year.
C. Her first day of senior high. D. Her schedule for Wednesday.
22. What should students do when Ms. Compeau says "alligator"?
A. Sit still. B. Stop talking.
C. Listen to the teacher. D. Look at the blackboard.
23. How did the author find her first two classes?
A. Unattractive. B. Informative.
C. Very tiring. D. Pretty easy.
24. Why did the author feel scared during the third period?
A. Because she couldn't focus on her work.
B. Because she found the class demanding.
C. Because she didn't like the teacher.
D. Because she did poorly at school.
【答案】21. C 22. B 23. D 24. B
【解析】

What is language for?
Some people seem to think it’s for practicing grammar rules and learning lists of words — the longer the lists, the better. However, it’s wrong.
Language is for the exchange (交流) of ideas and information. It’s meaningless knowing all about a language if you can’t use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can’t speak correctly or fluently. They are afraid of making mistakes.
People shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too. Bernard Shaw once wrote: “Foreigners often speak English too correctly.” But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They’re English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right. People not only make history, but they make language. But a person can only make his own language. It can’t make another people’s language.
So Chinese learners can learn about grammar, but they shouldn’t focus on it. They should put communication first. Understanding others correctly and expressing themselves freely matter more.
33. Generally, when an American or an Englishman speaks English, he ______.
A. never makes mistakes B. often makes mistakes
C. can’t avoid making mistakes D. seldom cares about mistakes
34. If too many native speakers break a rule, ______.
A. what they use will become right B. they are against the law
C. they should say sorry to others D. they will become heroes
35. Why is Bernard Shaw mentioned in this passage?
A. to prove that everybody makes mistakes.
B. to prove that foreigners speak English too correctly and they never make mistakes.
C. to show that native speakers are not afraid of making mistakes
D. to show that foreigners don’t have to be afraid of making mistakes while speaking English.
【答案】33. C 34. A 35. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要讨论了语言的真正用途——交流思想和信息,而非单纯学习语法规则和单词。文章指出学习外语时不应害怕犯错,应将交际放在首位,理解他人和自由表达比死抠语法更重要。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too. (母语使用者也会犯错和违反规则。)”可知,当美国人或英国人说英语时,他们也无法避免犯错。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right. (如果足够多的母语使用者违反一条规则,那它就不再是规则了。过去被认为是错误的东西会变成正确的。)”可知,如果太多母语使用者违反一条规则,他们所使用的就会变成正确的。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Bernard Shaw once wrote: “Foreigners often speak English too correctly.” (萧伯纳曾写道:“外国人说英语往往太正确了”)”以及本段第一句主旨句“People shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. (人们在说外语时不应该害怕犯错。)”可知,引用萧伯纳的话是为了说明外国人在说英语时不必害怕犯错,即外国人说英语过于死板、太追求正确反而不好。

The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother’s Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.

$Hello, i'm bob. Today, i'd like to share my habits of learning english. First, learning three words for a day. There's a tool called politic dot com comma where I often look up the words and their meanings, then right sentences using the words, besides, use those words more in your english speaking during the day. Another of the things that I do is finding something to read in english every day for at least fifteen minutes. This is the way that we can develop Better grammar and listening comprehension. Do you know how many words are in english? A million. Do you need to learn all of them? No, just learn as many as you can, or at least the ones you meet more than once. In short, keep reading and learning. A single method or only a short period is less effective.
You've probably heard the word breakfast before, but do you know where the word came from? Well, today we'll be talking about the most common words for meals. Breakfast is the first meal of the day and is eaten in the morning. But where did you come from? Well, a long time ago, people used to say break fast. Basically, the fast means not eating. And when you break a fast, you stop fasting and eat. So you fast all night long and then eat in the morning. And this is why we say breakfast today, dinner or supper, which one do you say? In the us. Both are used for the evening meal. But in some parts of the world there is a difference. Supper actually means the meal that you eat in the evening. And you'll hear this more in southern parts of the us. On the other hand, dinner means the largest meal of the day. So technically, you could say you had dinner at noon.

A MOTHER’S DAY SURPRISE

When I was fourteen, my school started offering, and after school class in chinese, I had only ever heard of how difficult chinese was. I thought if I could learn chinese, I could do anything. So I signed up for the class and enjoy studying something exciting and different. On monday evenings, I slowly got my head around tones after hours of repeating AOND with my classmates. Writing the characters was my favorite part. As I thought they were so beautiful, I would spend twenty minutes writing one sentence so that IT was as need as possible. A year later, I was given the opportunity to participate in the british council chinese speaking competition. My group performed a play called mulan, and we selected to go to the national finals. This was my first achievement in my chinese journey, and all the effort paid off.
