①Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable? You might have noticed many people choosing style over comfort and some even go to extremes(极端)to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
②Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets(日常饮食)that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live?
③Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels. They might think high heels make them look taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably, and it can increase risks of falls. Some even wear tight(紧的)clothes that influence blood circulation(循环)making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health?
④Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The material they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money?
⑤So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being? Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly. Remember, your worth is not decided by your appearance, but by who you are as a person.
29. Why do some people go on extreme diets according to the passage?
A. Because the diets are healthy. B. Because they just want to look good.
C. Because they want to save time. D. Because they want to save money.
30. What is the writer’s purpose of using a question in each paragraph?
A. To ask for help from readers. B. To tell how to spend time and money.
C. To describe the latest fashion. D. To lead readers to think about the topic.

32. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
C
There are 706 billion LEGO bricks (积木) on the earth, 7 LEGO sets are sold in every second, and more than 400 million people have played with Lego bricks. LEGO has already been a successful company in the world. Actually, there are many ups and downs along with its development.
Start from woods
The LEGO company was set up in 1934. The name comes from the Swedish “leg godt”, meaning “to play well”. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder of LEGO, was a master carpenter (木匠大师), so it’s not surprising that the first LEGO toys were made of wood. They were simple, such as wooden ducks. In 1942, the factory that made wooden LEGO toys was burned to the ground, which made Ole realize the disadvantages of working with wood.
Success—brick by brick
Soon Ole found out that plastic is a good material to make toys. LEGO started making self-locking bricks in 1949. But it wasn’t until 1958, when the locking design was much improved, that sales were rising. Because of its quality and the endless creativity that it lets children have, LEGO achieved a huge success.
Overcome difficulties
In 2000, children began to spend more time playing video games. By 2003, LEGO’s sales were down by 30%, and LEGO nearly went broke. The turning point appeared in 2004 when LEGO focused again on its bricks. And it also worked with films and televisions, like Star Wars. The Internet was used to build a LEGO group where fans show their love to LEGO collections. In 2015, it again became a name known by the world.
33. What can we learn from the numbers in Paragraph 1?
A. LEGO has a long history. B. LEGO has achieved a huge success.
C. LEGO is the best company. D. LEGO is going to have a bright future.
34. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Lego bricks. B. Plastic toys.
C. Wooden ducks. D. The first LEGO toys.
35. Which of the pictures shows the right development of LEGO company?
A. B.
C. D.
36. What’s probably the best title of the text?
A. LEGO: from small to big B. LEGO: toys and joys
C. LEGO: from wooden to plastic D. LEGO: ups and downs

Tom was bought by a new master named Legree, who treated his slaves (奴隶) badly. Cassy, a young mother also working for the master, made a plan to run away with Emmeline, another slave.
Legree’s house had an attic (阁楼). No one ever went there. The slaves believed it was full of ghosts. Cassy secretly put things in the attic that made strange noises when the wind blew. The slaves heard them, and started talking about ghosts. Legree was afraid of ghosts, so he avoided passing near the stairs to the attic.
Then one night, Cassy and Emmeline ran away. Cassy knew that Legree’s dogs were certainly going to find them, so they stayed near the house and waited. When Legree called the slaves, took the dogs and left to look for the two women, Cassy and Emmeline went into the attic and hid there.
Legree was very angry when he came back. He was sure that Tom knew something.
“Quimbo,” Legree said, “go and bring Tom here.”
Tom knew where Cassy and Emmeline were. He said a quick prayer (祈祷) and then followed Quimbo.
“Tom,” Legree said, “tell me where those two are, or I will kill you. Speak!”
“I have nothing to say,” Tom said.
“Are you telling me that you don’t know?”
“I know, Master, but I can’t tell you.”
Legree hit Tom with his fists (拳头). Tom fell to the ground. Legree kicked him again and again until he thought Tom was dead. Then he left.
Luckily, Tom was not dead. Sambo and Quimbo felt sorry for him and took him away. They washed his wounds and tried to help him.
Cassy and Emmeline stayed in the attic for days until Legree stopped looking for them. Then one night they escaped (逃跑) again, and nobody followed them. They were free!
Two days later, a young man arrived and asked to see the master of the place. The visitor was George Shelby. When he received the letter from Miss Ophelia, he went looking for Tom to buy him straight away, but it took a long time to find him.
Legree took George to see Tom.
Tom was lying on the floor, looking very weak. When George saw him like that, he felt so sad. “Uncle Tom, my poor, poor old friend!” he said.
Tom opened his eyes.
“Master George!” he said. “You’re too late. But don’t call me poor friend.” Tom grasped his hand and continued, “Please don’t tell my wife Chloe how you found me. Only tell her you found me going into glory (荣耀).” Then he closed his eyes with a smile, forever.
George carried Tom’s body to his wagon (马车) and laid him carefully on his cloak (披风). Then he turned, fixed his eyes on Legree, and said, “Sir, I will announce this murder to everyone.”

With the coming of the 34th National Disability Day, a special café named Naga Tree Café opened in Beijing. What makes it different from other cafés? It’s specially designed for people with disabilities.
The design of the café is very friendly to disabled people. At the entrance, a braille (盲文) map on the wall helps blind visitors get to know this place. The café provides plenty of space for wheelchair users to move around easily. In the dining area, the lifted tables are used to make customers enjoy food comfortably. What’s more, the toilet has an automatic (自动的) door, which makes it easy for disabled people to enter and exit. The toilet is about six square meters in size, and it can meet customers’ necessary needs.
Mr Ren, the owner of this café, used to be a P.E. teacher. However, in 2005, a serious illness made him disabled. Being disabled, he knows exactly how hard life is for disabled people, so he always dreamed of creating a safe and comfortable space for them. Now, his dream has come true. Since its opening, Naga Tree Café has become an important place for local disabled people to find employment (就业) and support services.
At present, the café is still trying to improve its environment. As more and more blind customers visited the café, some people suggested adding braille books.
1. Many tourists visit Hainan during the Spring Festival holiday, because it’s ________ too cold ________too hot there.
A. both; and B. not; but C. neither; nor D. either; or
both...and 表示“两者都”;not...but 表示“不是……而是……”;neither...nor 表示“既不……也不……”;either...or 表示“要么……要么……”。根据“游客春节去海南”的语境,那里的天气是不冷也不热,所以用neither;nor。
2. —To go abroad or not to go after graduation, it’s a question.
—You may take ________ of the roads. But being home in the end matters.
A. neither B. either C. both D. none
根据“But being home in the end matters.”
3. — Did you enjoy the outdoor training yesterday?
— No, not at all! I was ________ dead after so much hard training.
A. as good as B. as well as C. so good as D. so well as
【答案】A
as good as几乎,等同于;as well as和……一样好;so good as和……一样好,用于否定句;so well as和…… 根据“No, not at all!” 故选A。
4. —I want to improve my spoken English, but I’m afraid of making mistakes.
—Take it easy. Many students find ________ hard ________ English in public at first.
A. it; to speak B. it; speaking C. that; to speak D. that; speaking
【答案】A
根据固定结构“find it+adj.+to do sth.(发现做某事是……的)”可知,此处需要it作形式宾语,动词不定式作真正的宾语,故选A。
5. We can call 110 ________ when we are in trouble.
A. at times B. at a time C. at some time D. at all times
at times有时;at a time一次;at some time在某个时候;at all times始终,随时。
6. —Can you tell me ________?
—Never spend too much time on screen.
A. how we can have bright eyes B. why we should protect our eyes
C. where we can see an eye doctor D. when we should do eye exercises
【答案】A
how如何,怎样;why为什么;where哪里;when什么时候。根据“Never spend too much time on screen”可推测出,在询问如何才能拥有明亮的眼镜,“如何,怎样”,此时应用关系副词how引导宾语从句。故选A。
7. The C919, China’s self-made large plane, is now in use. ________exciting the news is!
A. How an B. How C. What D. What an
8. —Why are you so happy today?
—Because my hard work for the English speech contest finally ________. I won first prize!
A. paid off B. took off C. put off D. set off
【答案】A
paid off取得成功;took off起飞;put off推迟;set off出发。根据后句“I won first prize!” 故选A。
9. I’m so lucky ________ my new leader is easy ________.
A. that; to work with him B. whether; to work with
C. who; to work with D. that; to work with
whether表示“是否”;who表示“谁”;that用于so...that... 以至于……”;“be easy to work with”表示“容易共事”,主语my new leader是work with的逻辑宾语,不需要再加him。所以用that; to work with。
10. —Thank you so much for helping me work out this difficult math problem.
—________. I’m always ready to help you.
A. That’s right B. It doesn’t matter
C. Don’t mention it D. With pleasure

That’s right没错,常用于确认事实;It doesn’t matter没关系,常用于回应道歉;Don’t mention it别客气,常用于回应感谢;With pleasure乐意效劳,常用于回应请求。根据“Thank you so much...” 应填Don’t mention it。

By 2003, LEGO’s sales were down by 30%, and LEGO nearly went broke. The turning point appeared in 2004 when LEGO focused again on its bricks.…In 2015, it again became a name known by the world.”

Life is never a smooth journey. Sometimes troubles may appear on our journey of growth.
As a teenager, I am faced with heavy study pressure. I often feel stressed after finishing endless school tasks at school every day. There are many daily tests around me. They take up most spare time, leaving me little space for my own interests such as reading and sports. To change the situation, I decide to make good time plans.
