46.Dear Tom,
I’m writing to invite you to an exhibition featuring China’s new agricultural machinery. It will take place at the Science and Technology Museum in our city next Sunday.
Being one of the largest of its kind, this exhibition will showcase a wide variety of advanced agricultural machines and technologies that have been developed and used in recent years. With the richness of its display, the show will definitely broaden our horizons. It also offers a valuable platform to learn about the integration of technology and agriculture. I’m sure you will be amazed by Chinese people’s wisdom and innovation.
I truly hope you can accept my invitation. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Many thoughts raced through my mind. Should I break the rules and risk getting in trouble, or should I just sit here and watch the kitty drown? The terror in the cat’s eyes haunted me. I knew I couldn’t just sit by and do nothing. Summoning all my courage, I stood up and shouted, “Mrs. Foster, please stop the bus! There’s a cat drowning across the street!” My heart was pounding as all eyes turned to me, but I knew I had to speak up for that helpless creature.
Everyone stopped talking and looked at me, waiting. Mrs. Foster stared at me through the rearview mirror, her eyes narrowing. The bus fell silent, and for a moment, it felt like the whole world was holding its breath. Then, surprisingly, she nodded and pulled over. “Go get your cat,” she said. I couldn’t believe my ears. Grabbing my umbrella, I leaped out of the bus and splashed through the rain to the drowning kitty. Its little paws were still clinging to the storm drain. Gently, I lifted it out of the water and wrapped it in my jacket. Back on the bus, I received a round of applause from my classmates. That day, I learned that sometimes, breaking the rules and standing up for what’s right can lead to unexpected rewards. And it was worth it.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。

There’s nothing like graduating to make you want a celebratory vacation. So, where should you go once you graduate?
Iceland
With stunning bays, shooting geysers (间歇喷泉), natural hot springs and the northern lights — Iceland offers an otherworldly reset from your studies. A nature-first vacation, try and dedicate some time beyond the beautiful capital Reykjavik. You’ll need a large budget to chase waterfalls, sip pints and toast your graduation in Iceland, but you’ll look at the world entirely anew.
Florence, Italy
Florence offers a decadence (颓废) and youthfulness that is easier to access than in Rome or Naples, and its Renaissance beauty will fill your aching heart if you don’t want to leave university or college. Marvel at Botticelli’s masterpiece, the Birth of Venus, in the Uffizi and wander the expansive Boboli Gardens. Luxuriate with two-hour dinners on one of their many piazzas, climb to the top of the fabled Duomo to take in the rolling hills in the distance. There is so much to love about Florence, but like most major cities in Italy, it can be expensive, but it’s the price you pay to heal your heartache.
Greece
Few places have the same vacation appeal as Greece. With its hot, sunny climate and brilliant museums, especially the Acropolis Museum, the fantastic restaurants and endless island hopping opportunities, it’s hard to have a dull moment. Pro-tip: Don’t skip Athens. The birthplace of Western civilization and a paradise for thinkers, artists and scientists, come see the starting place for man’s greatest ideas.
Vietnam
Affordable, beautiful and warm, a graduation trip to Vietnam gets you out of your comfort zone. Get lost in a sea of mopeds in Hanoi and slurp pho on stools along the sidewalk. Head up to Halong Bay, where you can tour its limestone islands on a junk boat.
1.If we want to enjoy the beautiful northern lights, where should we go?
A.Iceland. B.Florence. C.Athens. D.Vietnam.
2.What do Iceland and Florence have in common?
A.We can fill our aching heart. B.There are many delicious piazzas.

3.Why should we not skip Athens if we have our vocation in Greece?
A.Because we appreciate many masters’ artworks.
B.Because we can visit many brilliant museums.
C.Because we will never have a dull moment.
D.Because Western civilization originates from here.
B
I was lost in the city. My nerves were stressed. My muscles were tense. My heart was pounding. My hands held the steering wheel (方向盘) of my car as I circled the same city block for the tenth time. As a girl, I grew up in the country. I had never driven in the city before, but I needed to pick up my elder daughter. With my three sons in the car, I was trying my best to find the exit back to the interstate highway. This happened long before GPS, and my handwritten directions seemed to be wrong. It didn't help that the just inches to spare as I inched my way back to the turnoff again. Finally, in desperation, I whispered, “Please. I want to go home. Help us find our way safely there!”
At that moment, I saw it, the tiny one-lane exit that led to the interstate highway again. At the last second, I pulled into the right lane. The traffic out of the city at that time of the day was even worse than that in the city. It was heavy traffic at 45 miles per hour. Finally, though, the vehicles started to thin out and moved freely, and I could relax at the wheel. I took in the beauty of the mountains covered by green forests. I smiled at the sun shining down on them. At last, we turned off the four-lane highway onto the winding two-lane road that would take us the last 16 miles home. I turned on the radio and laughed with joy when I heard the song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, playing loudly.
In our life, we will all take many paths and travel around many places. But in the end, all roads will lead us home again. So travel with a light and loving heart!

6.What does the author mainly express in the last paragraph?
A.Her insights into life. B.Her opinions on home.
C.Her desire for travelling. D.Her love for urban paths.
7.What is the best title for the text?
A.Traffic Tales B.Lost and Found
C.Roads Lead Home D.Country and City Adventures

Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help them locate an endangered bird called the Plains-wanderer. Data obtained from such technology shows great promise and is expected to boost the recovery of its shrinking population.
The Plains-wanderer is a small bird that lives in Australia’s grasslands. Not just any grasslands. Plains-wanderers are picky. There can’t be too much grass or too little. Zoos Victoria, the group behind the recent effort to locate Plains-wanderers, says the birds’ number has declined by over 85% in recent decades as grasslands have been turned into farms and cities. Scientists believe there are now only 250 to 1,000 of the birds left in the wild. Scientists have put the species into a “family” all by itself, since there are no other similar birds. The female Plains-wanderers are larger, and are in charge of protecting the territory while the male birds are smaller and take care of the eggs.
To protect these rare birds, scientists first had to learn where they were, so Zoos Victoria worked with Queensland University of Technology on a plan to track the birds. Since Plains-wanderers were hard to spot, the team chose to “listen” for the birds instead. Female Plains-wanderers make an unusual “Ooom” call, and this is the key to tracking them.
The researchers set up 35 special recording devices called “song meters” in nine different grassy areas where Plains-wanderers could possibly have been. Song meters recorded all the sounds made in an area over a long period of time. The song meters collected tens of thousands of hours of recordings — far more than humans could analyse. So the researchers fed the recordings to an AI system trained to identify the calls of Plains-wanderers. The AI system discovered Plains-wanderer calls coming from two of the sites. The scientists carried out further manual verification (核实) and confirmed the reliability of the AI system’s identification results. Chris Hartnett, who worked with Zoos Victoria, said it was like “striking gold”.
The new information will help scientists protect the birds. And the researchers are still “listening” — using song meters and AI to try to locate more of these Goldilocks birds.
8.What mainly leads to the sharp drop of Plains-wanderer numbers?
A.Increased natural enemies. B.Shortage of food sources.
C.Unstable climate conditions. D.Destruction of native habitat.
9.What can we infer about the AI system used in the research?
A.It can replace the need for human field work.
B.It is designed to record the birds’ unique calls.
C.It processes massive audio recordings efficiently.
D.It can increase the population of Plains-wanderers.
10.What does the underlined phrase imply in Paragraph 4?
A.The discovery proves vital to the research.
B.The AI equipment brings huge economic gains.
C.The Plains-wanderer’s population has unexpectedly recovered.
D.The research team has discovered gold mines near the grasslands.
11.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Studies on the crisis facing a unique grassland bird.
B.Advanced technology for general wildlife observation.
C.Intelligent tools to track and conserve a threatened species.
D.Exploration of causes for a grassland bird’s population loss.
D
Imagine you went out to lunch with six engineers. Only one of these lunch companions was wearing glasses, and he told a story you’d relay (转述) to a friend. Your friend asked, “Who told this story?” It wouldn’t make much sense to refer to that person as “the engineer” because everyone was an engineer. You’d probably refer to this person as “the one with glasses”.
People pay special attention to the differences between groups. The groups you encounter frequently and early in life become the background against which unfamiliar groups’ differences stick out.
The characteristics people have in common tend to be positive qualities, but what differentiates them typically tends to be negative because most of the time, people behave according to social norms that encourage positive behavior. So focusing on the differences makes people or groups appear more negative than they are by drawing extra attention to the negative qualities that distinguish them.
In our research, we asked over 2, 000 participants to imagine traveling to a far-away planet and encountering several aliens and their attributes (属性). We showed them six members of three alien groups, one after the other. Participants liked alien groups that they encountered later less if the groups had distinct negative attributes. They also remembered more of their negative attributes. If the groups had distinct positive attributes, participants liked alien groups that they met later more, and remembered more of their positive attributes.
Our findings showed that people focus on new, unique information about people, whether it’s positive or negative. But because the things that differentiate groups tend to be negative in the real world, they focus on negative attributes. And people may also often overlook the many positive shared attributes of unfamiliar groups.
When you encounter an individual or a group for the first time, it might be helpful to concentrate on what you share with them, and not just look for things that are different.
12.What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs?
A.The similarities are attractive to people. B.The differences tend to be forgettable.
C.The similarities are actually unimportant. D.The differences are more likely to be noticed.
13.What do the findings of the author’s team show?
A.Unfamiliar groups are controlled easily. B.Unfamiliar groups are judged negatively.
C.Unfamiliar groups are rejected frequently. D.Unfamiliar groups often behave positively.
14.What should we focus on when we meet with a stranger?
A.What positive qualities he has. B.What he has in common with you.
C.What he is especially interested in. D.What negative personality he has.
15.What might be the best title for the text?
A.The different attitudes to differences B.The advantages of similarities in life
C.The disadvantages of being unfamiliar D.The link between differences and similarities

I was shy when I was thirteen. I was also what most teachers would call a “good kid.” I followed the rules and rarely questioned authority. But then one day, one single ride on a school bus changed all that.
The school bus that day was crowded, hot and smelly. The windows were all rolled up—the driver’s order—it was simply raining too hard to have them down. My classmates were engaged in heated conversations and games. The driver had shouted at several kids who had been standing up in their seats and yelling.
I sat alone as usual, speaking to no one. Over and over, I carefully wiped a small circle through the cloud on my window so that I could look outside. People raced here and there, grasping umbrellas or covering their heads with jackets.
The bus stopped, waiting for an accident to clear. As I sat quietly, waiting and watching, I saw a kitty across the street on the other side of the road. He was all wet and didn’t seem to know how to get out of the rain. I wanted to go get the kitty, but I knew the bus driver, Mrs. Foster, would never allow me off the bus. It was against the rules to even stand up. I also thought if I pointed out the pitiful cat, the other kids would probably think that I was weird (奇怪的) , even weirder than they already thought I was. I didn’t want things to get any worse than they were.
My window was cloudy again, and when I wiped it clear, I could see the kitty was struggling in what seemed to be a flooded river. He was now up to his neck in cold water, but his little front paws were holding on to the bars covering the storm drain (排水沟) . I saw absolute terror in his dark, round eyes.
