A。 B When I started university, people told me, “These will be the best days of your life.” Not only would these be the best days of my life, everyone said, but they would also be the most exciting. By the end of my first year I was seriously considering dropping out. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. But I didn’t tell anyone. I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot. Jemma Lamble and I are friends on Facebook — what impression did she get from my Facebook page? “There is one feeling I got when I clicked on Libby’s Facebook page and that is jealousy.” Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. “University life wasn’t the walk in the park I had expected,” says Jemma. “I certainly didn’t expect the feeling of loneliness that I experienced because I found it hard to connect with the people on my course.” Sophie Smith remembers her first day, “As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. He replied, ‘Well, LCF is lucky to have me.’” My time at university may not have been the dream that I signed up for, but it has made me who I am. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result. Now that I am starting my third and final year, I can look back and see that university has been an experience. 4. What can we infer from paragraph 1? A. The author was hard to please. B. The author had been fooled by those people. C. The author felt disappointed with her campus life. D. The author might not be very easy to get along with. 5. Which of the following is TRUE about Facebook according to the text? A. Facebook makes a person competitive. B. Sometimes a Facebook page may be a lie. C. Facebook lives are a mirror of the real ones. D. People really enjoy themselves on Facebook. 6. How did Sophie Smith consider the guy who replied to her? A. Fortunate B. Impolite C. Humorous D. Considerate 7. What does the author mainly say in the last paragraph? A. She feels regretful. B. LCF is not her dream college. C. Hardship has made her stronger. D. Friendship weighs more than social experience. 4. C 5. B 6. B 7. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. 根据第二段“I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot. 当我访问我朋友的Facebook时,我发现他们显然玩得很开心)”以及第四段中“Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. 根据第五段中““As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result. C。 C In June 2017, we began the trip of a lifetime, exploring the history of the Silk Road in China. Arriving in rural Wuwei in Gansu, we were soon enjoying a hearty meal of handmade noodles at a local restaurant. Well-fed, we headed to the Tiantishan Grottoes (洞穴), some of the earliest grottoes built in China. We walked down into a cavernous dam (坝), initially built to supply water to the local community. This dam houses a series of enormous statues (雕像), the largest of which is the Sakyamuni Buddha. The next day, we arrived at the Jiayuguan Fortress. This was the primary transportation node linking the East and West along the ancient Silk Road. Once we got out of the gate, we were greeted with the sight of the Gobi Desert stretching before us. Our fifth day took us to the Yumen Pass and the Dunhuang Yardang National Geopark. An adventure should encounter all kinds of weather, but even so, I felt scared when I walked into a sandstorm that morning. Thankfully, many of our group were well-prepared with face masks and caps. I, on the other hand, was not as equipped, so I was quite happy to stay in the hotel at the end of the day — and empty out the dirt that had gathered in my ears! This was, admittedly, the low point of the trip. The next day’s visit to the Mogao Grottoes was the definitive highlight of the trip. Upon entering the dry, cool grottoes, it’s as though you’ve entered another world: The grottoes are filled with ancient artwork with 45,000 square metres of wall paintings and statues. We ended our trip by crossing the Yellow River in rafts. I learned an extraordinary amount about the Silk Road, but, moreover, I got to explore this part of China with a great group of like-minded people. 8. For what purpose was the dam at the Tiantishan Grottoes originally built? A. To store water. B. To protect the grottoes. C. To attract tourists. D. To house statues of Buddha. 9. What happened to the author on the fifth day? A. He lost his travel equipment. B. He stayed at the hotel all day. C. He encountered all weathers in one day. D. He got depressed by the terrible sandstorm. 10. What was the trip like in the author’s eyes? A. Boring with no highlights. B. Thrilling with many adventures. C. Disappointing due to the weather conditions. D. Educational and enjoyable despite some challenges. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. A Tour along the Silk Road B. The Magic of the Silk Road C. A Silk Road Travel Guide D. The Silk Road Attractions 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第二段中“We walked down into a cavernous dam (坝), initially built to supply water to the local community.(我们走进一个洞穴般的水坝,最初是为了给当地社区供水而建的)”可知,天梯山石窟的水坝最初是为储水而建造的,故选A。 根据第四段中“An adventure should encounter all kinds of weather, but even so, I felt scared when I walked into a sandstorm that morning.(冒险应该遇到各种天气,但即便如此,那天早上我走进沙尘暴时还是感到害怕)”和“This was, admittedly, the low point of the trip.(不可否认,这是这次旅行的最低谷)”可知,第五天时作者因可怕的沙尘暴而情绪低落,故选D。 根据全文内容,结合第四段中“An adventure should encounter all kinds of weather, but even so, I felt scared when I walked into a sandstorm that morning.(冒险应该遇到各种天气,但即便如此,那天早上我走进沙尘暴时还是感到害怕)”和最后一段中“I learned an extraordinary amount about the Silk Road, but, moreover, I got to explore this part of China with a great group of like-minded people.(我学到了很多关于丝绸之路的知识,但更重要的是,我和一群志同道合的人一起探索了中国的这一部分)”可知,虽然这次旅行遭遇了沙尘暴,但是作者学到了很多关于丝绸之路的知识,但更重要的是和一群志同道合的人一起探索了中国的这一部分,由此推知在作者看来这次旅行尽管有一些挑战,但具有教育意义和乐趣,故选D。 根据全文内容,结合第一段“In June 2017, we began the trip of a lifetime, exploring the history of the Silk Road in China.(2017年6月,我们开始了一次千载难逢的旅行,探索丝绸之路在中国的历史)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者在2017年6月沿着丝绸之路旅行的经历。 A。 D AI generators and the avatars (化身) they create are developing rapidly. UK-based company Synthesia aims to move this technology further. Recently, it announced Expressive Avatars, which can show a lot of lifelike human feelings. These avatars are part of what Synthesia calls its “digital actors”. They have improved facial expressions and human-like voices — an upgrade from other AI systems’ robotic sounds. Synthesia offers more than 160 AI avatars, under the agreement of real human actors. Users can produce videos in more than 130 languages. CEO Victor Riparbelli said that they are not coming for Hollywood; instead, they focus on business to business (B2B) content, which need communication videos that are easy-to-create and human-like, such as in areas like healthcare. Synthesia’s Expressive Avatars are powered by its Express-I AI model. Riparbelli explained that the company hired thousands of actors to record videos to train the model to ensure its exactness. In a show, an avatar reacted to words like “I am happy”. The avatar’s speech style was more natural than previous models. Riparbelli said “Whether the conversation is cheerful or serious, our avatars change their performance accordingly, showing a level of care and understanding that was once the special area of human actors.” The possible misuse of this technology is a concern, especially considering the risks of deep fake (深度伪造) technology. “We’ve taken additional steps to prevent the misuse of our technology, including updating our policies to limit the type of content people can make, working on the early finding of dishonest actors, and increasing the teams that work on AI safety,” the company announced. Synthesia believes that Expressive Avatars will help businesses produce videos that are not only informative but also caring. 12. What is special about Expressive Avatars? A. They have human emotions. B. They are more human-like. C. They can update themselves. D. They can replace human actors. 13. What is used to train the Express-1 AI model? A. Videos of real actors. B. Data from the Internet. C. Sounds of other AI robots. D. Performances from previous models. 14. What is the purpose of Synthesia’s announcement mentioned in paragraph 5? A. To warn of the dangers of AI avatars. B. To show its efforts to deal with the risks. C. To provide users with AI safety measures. D. To encourage users to create more content. 15. What is the author’s attitude towards the Expressive Avatars technology? A. Uncertain. B. Concerned. C. Confident. D. Objective. B 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第一段中“Recently, it announced Expressive Avatars, which can show a lot of lifelike human feelings.(最近,该公司发布了一款可以展示许多栩栩如生的人类情感的Expressive Avatars)”和“They have improved facial expressions and human-like voices — an upgrade from other AI systems’ robotic sounds.(他们改进了面部表情和类似人类的声音——这是其他人工智能系统的机器人声音的升级)”可知,Expressive Avatars的特殊之处在于它们更像人类。 根据第三段中“Riparbelli explained that the company hired thousands of actors to record videos to train the model to ensure its exactness.(Riparbelli解释说,该公司聘请了数千名演员来录制视频,以训练模型,以确保其准确性)”可知,Synthesia使用真人演员录制的视频来训练Express-1 AI模型。故选A。 第五段第一句“The possible misuse of this technology is a concern, especially considering the risks of deep fake (深度伪造) technology.(这种技术可能被滥用是一个令人担忧的问题,特别是考虑到深层假膜技术的风险)”提到该技术有可能别滥用的风险,下文“‘We’ve taken additional steps to prevent the misuse of our technology, including updating our policies to limit the type of content people can make, working on the early finding of dishonest actors, and increasing the teams that work on Al safety,’ the company announced.(‘已经采取了额外的措施来防止我们的技术被滥用,包括更新我们的政策来限制人们可以制作的内容类型,致力于早期发现不诚实的行为者,并增加致力于人工智能安全的团队。’ 根据全文内容,尤其是第一段中的“These avatars are part of what Synthesia calls its ‘digital actors’. They have improved facial expressions and human-like voices — an upgrade from other AI systems’ robotic sounds.(这些虚拟形象是Synthesia所称的‘数字演员’的一部分。它们拥有改进的面部表情和人类般的声音——这是对其他AI系统机械声音的升级)”和第五段中的“We’ve taken additional steps to prevent the misuse of our technology, including updating our policies to limit the type of content people can make, working on the early finding of dishonest actors, and increasing the teams that work on AI safety (已经采取了额外的措施来防止我们的技术被滥用,包括更新我们的政策来限制人们可以制作的内容类型,致力于早期发现不诚实的行为者,并增加致力于人工智能安全的团队)”可知,作者既介绍了Expressive Avatars技术的优势,也提到了其潜在的滥用风险,并客观地陈述了公司为防止滥用所采取的措施。 Studying for exams long hours or repeated exposure to a stressful situation may lead to burnout You can regain some of that enjoyable experience by scheduling regular activities. ___20___ A. Find ways to express your creative sides. B. Try different types of activities to keep things fresh. C. Remember when you used to spend time with friends? D. A cycling with your partner every day will do just fine. E. This in turn makes you have healthy and positive thoughts. F. Creativity can reduce anxiety and help you make better choices. G. This means you should believe in your ability to complete a task at hand. G 17. A 18. E 19. C 20. This指代上文的“Increase your self-efficacy (自我效能)”,而“believe in your ability to complete a task at hand”对应“self-efficacy”。故选G。 【17题详解】 下文“Not everyone has creative aspects to their jobs, and therefore, you need to find other approaches to showing yourself. You could paint, write or take part in local Chinese festivals.(并非每个人的工作都有创造性的一面,因此,你需要找到其他展示自我的方式。 “Find ways to express your creative sides”统领后文的具体活动,“creative sides”和后文“creative aspects”相呼应。故选A。 【18题详解】 上文“Look after yourself and your surroundings. The consequence is that you are surrounded by a cleaner and more positive environment.(照顾好自己和周围的环境。 This指代上文“you are surrounded by a cleaner and more positive environment”,“have healthy and positive thoughts”是处于积极环境的结果。故选E。 【19题详解】 下文“You were active and you had fun when you watched movies and ate meals together.(你们一起看电影、吃饭的时候很活跃,也很开心)”说明过去和朋友一起的时光很快乐。 You were active and you had fun when you used to watch movies and eat meals together. You can regain some of that enjoyable experience by scheduling regular activities.(安排定期的社交活动。 “A cycling with your partner every day”是对“Schedule regular social activities”的举例说明。 My husband and I were on our flight to America. B When I started university, people told me, “These will be the best days of your life.” Not only would these be the best days of my life, everyone said, but they would also be the most exciting. B. Considerate 7. What does the author mainly say in the last paragraph? A. She feels regretful. B. LCF is not her dream college. C. Hardship has made her stronger. D. Friendship weighs more than social experience. C In June 2017, we began the trip of a lifetime, exploring the history of the Silk Road in China. A.
